Who Was Bill Parcells Talking About?

November 23rd, 2018

Winners and losers.

There is no doubt in Joe’s mind that in the video below, Bill Parcells very easily could have been talking about a Bucs player or players.

We all know of one player who very publicly went out of his way to hoist journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick upon the ticket-buying Bucs fandom. And it colossally blew up just as publicly (gee, who couldn’t have seen that coming?).

The Bucs sit at 3-7 and with a loss to the struggling 49ers on Sunday very well could finish the season on a Raheem Morris-like 10-game losing streak. Given how this swinging cattle gate plays defense, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

That, friends, is what you call “losers” in the NFL.

Below is a quote from Bill Parcells at his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech. In it, Parcells sort of pinpoints the problem with the Bucs. See if you can guess who he could be talking about?

(The quote in the twitter below is inaccurate, by the way.)

in other words …it all starts with leadership and is magnified with the individual character of each player. Players who have that drive to win or players that just go through the motions. It’s like cancer in some cases that morphs itself into a losing culture. Sometimes the only way to turn a club around is to completely clean out the old guard, or to completely remove all the cancer. If you don’t it will metastasize the next season again. sound familiar?

  2. Pistol Pete Says:

This season has not been as disappointing as last season after the national tv exposure we got in pre-season. But in a really awful, “Bucs Life” way, starting the way we did and then to see us implode has been a ball crusher. I hate that we will be starting over with a new regime again, and I will get amped up and eventually let down once again.

  3. ben Says:

Licht needs to be the 1st to go after trading Winston and firing the head coach!

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

players today are coddled and expectations have been lowered. Teams kowtow to gifted players so much to make them happy. The players are basically running the show while management is at their mercy. George Halas, Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi are probably all rolling in their graves watching how ballclubs coddle these players today. Players seem to no longer hold each other accountable anymore. There was a day when a player was caught loafing he would feel the wrath in the locker room. Not anymore. Now we just buy them ice cream.

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

But WINNERS assemble as a TEAM.

Instead of betting on an immature QB, to come in a change the losing culture of the organization.

  6. LakeLand Says:

Teams uses tapes of the Yucs to motivate their players

“They ask the players, do you want to be like this crappy team”.

  7. Mike in MO Says:

Joe, where’s the poll for confidence in GM Jason Licht? It has to have reached an all-time low by now.

  8. Dapostman Says:

So who on the Bucs is he talking about? I have my suspicions.

  9. Ndog Says:

    Keep on dreaming Ben.

So you hear that and think of the one guy on this team that actually gives a crap? Ok bro if this does not show your ignorance thend nothing will. How about tge diva free agent WR? Or the overpaid DT that didn’t want us to draft Aaron Donald cause he didn’t want to switch positions?

  11. Playaction Says:

How many draft picks can we get for GMC and Desean Jackson?

  12. Mike Says:

Losers stand teams up at press conferences…. well maybe not losers, but scum

  13. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Im embarrassed to be a part of this LOSER FAN BASE…

    #12thManDying

  14. AlteredEgo Says:

    See…it is not coaching !

  15. NO FEAR... Says:

AND I BET A DOLLAR TO A DONUT THAT McCoy IS IN THAT LITTLE GROP…

  16. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Back in the day we young fans overcame the loser mentality that dominated this fan base..SO SAD TO SEE IT RETURN.

You people have NO IDEA how much you ARE THE CULTURE…

YOU LOSERS Ran off Dungy and Gruden and McKay and Monte and ANY HOPE of returning to dominance…

You loser Fans of Depression deserve the sorry team you have
Im a die hard. I enjoy my team regardless. I work for them because I love my team and community.

Joe could do us all a favor and start covering the sorry loser mentality of the Bucs Fans.

You deserve an article to tell you how sorry you FAKE AZZ FANS REALLY ARE!!!!

  17. tmaxcon Says:

outside of gruden’s glory year and McKay’s playoff year this team has been the pure definition of LOSERS…. but low standard buc fan calls 500 football with no chance to win the playoffs glory years so glazers have no reason to field a respectable product. buc fan rather live in the past and celebrate underachievers than win now. it’s a buc life.

  18. Jean Lafitte Says:

    FreeTheSecretWeapon

    blaming the fans is comical

  19. tmaxcon Says:

    FreeTheSecretWeapon

hey assclown…. dungy ran himself off because he COULD NOT WIN IN THE POST SEASON NOR COULD HE FIELD AN OFFENSIVE UNIT THAT COULD COMPETE AGAINST A HIGH SCHOOL DEFENSE…

DUNGY THE CLOWN FAILED!!!! STOP REWRITING HISTORY BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD OR HE GOES TO YOUR CRAPPY CHURCH.

  20. Joe Blahak Says:

Winston, DJAX, McCoy for picks will help the team culture and the REBUILD…

  21. cw_buc_crazy Says:

    @ben

I’m dreaming with you. Hope Glazers are willing to go BOLD.
Right now they are unwatchable, never felt like this before. The worst bucs team of this century.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Look we lose to the 49ers..One of the NFl’s worst teams this year? I say fire Licht and Koetter before Dirks Post game press conference. But it won’t happen. The Glazers are..Ball-less.

  23. Playaction Says:

The worst Bucs team was under Greg Schiano where we struggled on both sides of the ball.
Dungy was never able to field a consistent offense, so he poured all of his major efforts into making sure that the defense was great.
GMC is a component, but not a transformational talent we thought him to be.

  24. JA Says:

Gotta love the entertainment value of the typical NFL fan that does not align themselves with the five or six successful NFL franchises. If it were up to them they’d change coaches every three weeks and GM’s every six. They’d make impossible trades come true every week and show no regard for the salary cap. Ah, the joy of the pressure free world of the outsider looking in …

  25. Season Is Over Says:

I love how the Winstopologists have decided to attack the fans who have had to endure this crap show.

  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ With due respect, how do you know it was a “Winstopologist”? – There was no reference to Jameis in those posts.

  27. Dewey Selmon Says:

The worse Bucs team was under Schiano? LOL. Leeman Bennett and Richard Williamson are probably people you’ve never heard of.

  28. LakeLand Says:

    Manic Depression

Years of being a Buc fan

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We know Winston want to win…..he wants to win so badly he is reckless with the football…..
I have no doubt that Djax has been a negative and should be traded…..I would have no problems with trading LVD & GMC also…..let’s whittle this team down to younger players with the heart to win. That would probably be not more than 25 of the 53.

  30. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

This team is infested with beta male simps and fat bloated pansies. From the owners all the way down to the water boys

  31. Easy Says:

If we can steal Kyler Murray in the draft…..

  32. tmaxcon Says:

You are OUT OF YOUR MIND if you think bucs will get picks for ANYONE on this team outside of Mike Evans. Cancer93 is worthless and the league is aware he is a locker room cancer. LVD has sucked for years. DJax is over 30 and simply will not get anything over a 5th rounder. if you fools would take 5 seconds to research NFL trade patterns and history; you would realize how foolish you sound suggesting cancer93 is worth multiple picks or anything about a 5th rounder. you will see… I am always right!!!!

  33. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Ndog

    WTF

Man miss with Bullsh!t U talking.
Most U muthafukas around here couldn’t stop talking about how – this immature kid was gonna come in and change the world. Merely by blessing Dale Mabry with his presence.

Now 48 games in – and we’re no better than Josh Freeman Bucs.

  34. Ed Kerber Says:

We DJax and GMC do have some value, but not much. They are not work a pick, but they can definitely get a contender to swap rounds: like Green Bay Packer give a Second Round pick and Tb gives Djax and a third round pick.

  35. Ed Says:

Could be talking about the Tampa Bay Fans

LUVMYBUCS….You nailed it..48 games in..yep..nothing has changed..people can’t use the age excuse or the rookie year excuse..

New QB..new HC/DC and clean up in aisle 6..get all the paycheck collectors only players out of here…

I want players with depth that care..Kwon, JPP and yeah butholes, even DJax..

  40. DayOnePaul Says:

Parcells turned the Glazers down for the head coaching gig here TWICE.
One of the few Head Coaches that I’ve ever seen that could turn a team around in a single year. Probably the most impactful coach who ever led men onto the football field. Older guys could argue Lombardi, I guess. He twice decided that he didn’t want any part of this trickle-down systemic nightmare.

    It’s my Bucs Life.

  41. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

    DayOnePaul:

He “jilted Hugh Culverhouse at the alter” the first go around…Glazers 2nd. I agree that Parcells was a heck of a coach.

  42. Reach87 Says:

Sounds like he’s talking about posers on this site. Go Bucs!
