The seeds of Joe’s discontent with how defensive coordinator Mike Smith runs his defense began with a handful of plays in western New York.
Last year the Bucs had just taken a 27-20 lead on the playoff-bound Buffalo Bills in their crib with 3:14 left. Yet that lead vanished in only three plays.
Tyrod Taylor, of all people, needed but three plays to drive the Bills 75 yards to tie the game at 27-27 and the Bills added a field goal later for the 30-27 winning score. When a guy like Taylor can beat you in only three plays, you’ve got problems.
Joe was reminded of that yesterday when the Dixie Chicks took over possession with 26 seconds left in the half. The Bucs had just pulled within a touchdown at 21-13 when O.J. Howard caught a 10-yard pass from America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
Here is what transpired:
* Matty Ice pass short left to Austin Hooper for 14 yards.
* Matty Ice pass short right to Justin Hardy for 17 yards.
* Matty Ice pass deep left to Julio Jones to Tampa Bay-28 for 16 yards.
That set up a 45-yard field goal by Matt Bryant.
There was that matador defense. Take away Bryant’s field goal there, and the Bucs at the end of the game didn’t need to try a high school play. They would have only needed a field goal to send the game into overtime.
Good thing Smith had a whole bye week to fix his defense, eh?

Very silly stuff. Joe wrote a Jameis post yesterday after the game “Not Good Enough” …Ira Kaufman has written to dump Jameis completely if he goes 5-7 as a starter in his return. Joe has written many positive and negative things about Jameis. And Joe has been very balanced on McCoy, including sharing the shots at him from Ian Beckles.

The error started when the Bucs did not mortar kick to the Atlanta 5 with the 26 seconds left in the first half. They kicked it deep and no time ran off the clock. Force the Falcons to use clock to advance the ball. This is football 101 in that situation and these coaches need to go back to school.

Robert I like how you hedge you jameis bet with decent compensation. Hes not going anywhere, maybe you should with your same tired rhetoric. 4 TDs and 400 yards wins most games, except teams with HISTORICALLY the worst defense of all time. The same game from fitz in The Steelers loss and you’re praising him, pathetic. But you go ahead and keep pretending it’s the offenses fault.

Offensive numbers are up across the league. The Chiefs are on pace to set records for defensive ineptitude.
The Patriots D got shredded last night.
Even the Jags gave up 40.
Its the new normal, better accept we got to outscore the other team. We almost pulled it off. Beat Cleveland and were back in the hunt.

reality is a b*tch man.
for the money, fitz is the better player………thats point 1. point 2 is jw is too risky to even sign long term given his lies. point 3 is he’s just not worth 100 mill….so you know there will be issues come contract time. he’ll get another start. they will lose, he will be traded, fitz will come back and take us to the playoffs…….not because he is better than jw, but because he is better motivated as he’ll never have this chance again…and he’s playing with house money while jw has the pressure of his entire future at stake

The Falcons offense went TD/TD/Td

After 6 weeks we have learn the following:
1) Our defense plays 1/2 a game sometimes
2) Our DC is unable to prepare their defense to bring the hammer in the first half
3) We finally seem to have found balance in the offense
4) FitzMagic gave us the honor of experiencing as a fan an unstoppable aerial attack.
5) FitzMagic became a bigger pain in the a$$ to Winston than his lawsuit since Fitz thought Winston the benefit of connecting with Jackson deep.
6) Until Winston connects with Jackson deep we will not win again.
7) We have the possibility to finish the season with the #1 offense and the #1 draft pick in 2019.
8) ALL WILL BE FIRED COME DECEMBER

I am sure Monken took the time left into consideration on the drive. I am also sure monken didnt think 26 seconds was gona be enough for a fg. All 3 units must now take into account the d coordinator on every play and drive. Sickening the o coordinator now must play d coordinator by chewing up more clock on offense. Thats what we’ve come to tho. Cmon Glazers pull the plug!!

Yes, that’s why this idiot franchise will pay $100 million to a QB that throws at least 2 picks per game and forces his inaccurate passes and fails to see wide open WRs. Nick Foles and Fitz could do better with this group. Bucs need to invest in the defense to replace GMC, Kwon, Grimes, Ryan Smith, Taylor, Spence and Gholston.

This defense sucks, Licht needs to go. I watchewd press confrence and Koetter said he was encouraged by some play on both sides of ball. What the hell is wrong with him, he seemed clueless, my confidence in Koetter is fading with each loss. PS Who called plays today? I would say Koetter did due to the predictability of play calling. Jameis cannot throw a deep ball and hit someone in stride.

People on this board act like it is “their money” which is being used to pay Bucs players. Look around the league and see what starting QBs in the this league make. Hate to tell all the Winston haters, but starting QBs in this league make $100 million on a long term deal. Period. It is the most costly position out there. Look at the cost of the franchise tag on the position.

If us fans band together and NOT go to games, not watch on TV or listen on the radio for a few weeks it’ll begin to hit ownership in the pockets and at that point they “MAY” decide to take action and change Mike Smith’ role…. Ownership are obviously smart and wily business people; there’s virtually no way they can not know that our defense is probably the worse EVER in the history of the NFL (and what a shame with so much talent to lean on)…
If ownership will not step in and take action us fans should do our part and not contribute our hard earned money to these billionaires who refuse to step in and do what needs to be done in order to give us hard working people a team and product to be proud of… Does anyone think that ownership can be proud of the current defensive product? Refuse to give them your money for a few weeks and we’ll (hopefully) see a different play-caller on defense…….

i said it before and i will say it again…with this team the only way to win is use fitzie as qb and win shootouts by scoring 40+ points…he is the only bucs qb who can hit the long ball – resulting in extra points…jameis is a 28 point guy…you can tack an extra 14 on with fitzie…to 42 points, more or less…
koetter and smith are a step behind almost everyone in the league – it’s quite a problem…
we can win wild shootouts if we give into that methodology…right now we are not giving into it…koetter and smitty think they have a defense…they inevitably are 2 dumb dudes
