“Triggering To The Ball”

Dirk Koetter talked defense and more last night

How bout that revitalized Buccaneers defense!

Head coach Dirk Koetter was talking about it late last night.

Asked what he liked about the revitalized performance against the Browns, Koetter gave a slightly different answer to what he has offered since the overtime win.

“I thought we did a better job of playing more relaxed, playing faster, triggering to the ball when the ball was in the air,” Koetter said on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Joe found the whole “triggering to the ball” take insightful, and it kind of piggybacked on what Koetter said earlier in the day during his Buccaneers Radio Network appearance. There he noted the defense was having more fun last week and players generally perform better when that’s the case.

“We put good pressure on the quarterback,” Koetter added, specifically praising Jason Pierre-Paul and Carl Nassib. He also liked how the Bucs largely kept Baker Mayfield in the pocket.

Zinger!

NFL Radio co-host Gil Brandt, the legendary scouting godfather and architect of the Cowboys dynasty of the Tom Landry era, welcomed Koetter to his show with the following line. “Hey Dirk, I didn’t realize you were coaching the field goal kickers.”

Ouch!

Like Mike?

Speaking about kicker Chandler Catanzaro, Koetter expressed that kicking woes tend to get overblown.

And then Joe nearly choked on Abe’s Place chicken wing when Koetter appeared to make a Catanzaro-Michael Jordan analogy.

“When a guy’s on your team, you trust him. I mean, at least I do,” Koetter said, adding that  Jordan always “thought he was going to make the next 3-pointer, too.”

Koetter trusts Catanzaro soooo much that they had Cairo Santos and Sam Ficken come in for kicker tryouts.

Don’t believe a thing Koetter says. Half the time he doesn’t himself know what he is saying.

I wonder if Jordan can kick a 40 yard FG. Sign em.

Dbacks played more aggressive and good tight coverage. We went from 2-5 wtf plays where a guy is running wide open, to not even one I can remember vs the browns.

  3. Rob Says:

Not giving up a 10 yard plus cushion on nearly every freaking and letting our defensive backs get up on the receivers was obviously key. Pressure always helps your dbs look better too. Sure would be nice to grab a pick or two though. One pick in six games is a joke. Noah Spence needs to show something or cut him loose. Go Bucs!

Unless the Bucs win the super bowl, everyone is gone. There is not one impact player out of this draft. Management needs to look at which good player will fly the coop when the opportunity occurs. They need to get their head out of their ass and hire a president of football operations and go play with their money.

We’re getting so excited because the defense played better in one game. Let’s not forget the Browns came back to tie, and if not for a fumbled punt probably win. Let’s not forget that Hue Jackson might be a worse coach then Koetter. If he kicks a field goal before half instead of going for it on forth down, they probably win. We’ll see how good this defense is the next two games. All we did Sunday was beat a team more snake bit then us.

  6. BucNole Says:

This is why I dont think Koetter is a very good HC (besides the fact that he kinda sucks at it).
Why in the world would you not make everyone accountable for their play on the field?
Koetter is soft and the players know it

  7. Not there yet Says:

Clearly he trusts his kicker more than his offense. I think 2-0 start was a mirage. New offensive philosophy and coordinators caught on by week 3. Hope the coaching search is already underway

Jeebus!!! Can some of you guys do me a favor.

Can we for once just accept a win and enjoy it?

The Bengals are a good if not great team…they are at home…I do not care HOW we beat them if we can just simply beat them.

Even if it’s a totally lucky flukey win I’m GOING TO ENJOY IT!!!!
We’re almost to the halfway point. If we beat the Bengals…can we just ENJOY IT!!!!

How about we agree to make next week enjoyment week…or better still…IF the Bucs beat the Bengals in honor of Realist next week gets declared “Sheep Week”. We all come here and just talk about how great the Bucs are and save all this negativity which frequently reaches the level of hyperbole for a week when…uhhhh we actually lose game. Are you afraid that’s never going to happen again giving you a chance to trash the team? LMAO

Guys this is supposed to be fun. Losing is never fun…but when winning is THIS PAINFUL…something is seriously wrong!!!
