Telling Share By Jason Licht

October 21st, 2018

“Look at the bounce in their step, Dirk.”

General manager Jason Licht raised the curtain for Buccaners fans before the game and damn, it sure was revealing.

Licht jumped on the Buccaneers Radio Network before kickoff and in a discussion about the change to new defensive coordinator Mark Duffner explained that the energy seen in practice last week was the best it had been all season.

Think about that for a minute.

Now combine that with crickets from Bucs defensive players on social media when their three-year leader was fired last week. Those crickets were reminiscent of when the Bucs fired Jay Hayes in the offseason.

Don’t discount what that Smith ousting meant to this roster.

The defense carried the Bucs today. Dirk Koetter admitted it at his postgame news conference moments ago.

Joe likes that Duffner now has plenty to build on wit his unit. They may not be tackling well, and they’re not going to score many offensive coordinators, but they’re confident after an absolute lockdown in overtime.

Accountability had an instant impact. Joe hopes there’s more of it at One Buc Palace, especially along the offensive line.

A lot more bounce to the whole team when dk benches Winston. Just saying…

  2. Robert Says:

    Like omg Jamis sux spoons

    So glad I stayed home

  3. WalkdaPlank Says:

Mark Duffner: One of only two Bucs defensive coordinators to get a win against a rookie quarterback since 2011.

  4. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Sad thing is it could be to late. WHY did he bring Smith back after 2017? I also would like to see what #93 does now as well. As for the QB, he was TERRIBLE today. missing throws, and still his decision making is so damn bad.

  5. Gobucs Says:

    Defense looked much improved.

This game shouldn’t have been close.

    Thanks offense.

  6. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Jason Licht propoganda machine so glad his draft class this year and 2016 do absolutely nothing for this team

  7. FR Says:

Please do something about this Winston guy he just does the same crap every game up and down and then out we go. We barely won against the browns what are we gonna do again good better teams?

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

I think Jameis needs an eye exam. There’s so many things he doesn’t see, and that list is long.

  9. Alanbucsfan Says:

Now they need to make similar coaching changes on OLine and RB.
Anyone consider that Jameis has to be the whole offense because they STILL have No F’ing Running Game!!!!

  10. BucfaninMi Says:

The fact that Dirk kept Smitty around as Long as he did, proves he should be fired. Stubborn old coach attitude is not working in today’s NFL

  11. FR Says:

You can start to see the disgust in Evans and Jackson with these passes Winston gonna get them killed.

  12. LakeLand Says:

    ACCOUNTABILITY

As in 13 TURNOVERS in 4 games

  13. DalvinCookRules Says:

The best way to describe Winston is up-and-down. He can get hot and make a string of great plays, and then go ice cold where he is inside his own head & can’t hit the side of a barn if his life depended on it.

Koetter is even worse than Winston, though. Took him almost 3 years to realize that Mike Smith was not the answer, makes poor player personnel choices, and can’t keep the team focused for 4 entire quarters–not to mention, after all these years he still doesn’t have a firm grasp of the NFL RULE BOOK!!

  14. BrianBucs Says:

    Winston had 3 turnovers.
In a 16 game season that would be 48.
Yep, he’s a franchise QB alright (cough cough)

  15. Ndog Says:

So our QB is asked to throw the ball 51 times cause we can’t run the ball and he also leads us in rushing. Then we have dropped passes by Hump, Evans, OJ and a fumble by Brate a missed kick that should be a gimme and a LT that was worked over all day today and again the QB gets ripped. But I thought everyone said stats don’t matter as only WINS do? Well we win and you people still complain. Your bias is showing just a bit.

  16. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

you see dak hit that long ball in stride, winston CANNOT do that period

  17. Gobucs Says:

Can anyone see the difference in Winston between year 1 and year 4?

That says all you need to know.

    Not elite. AVERAGE

  18. WalkdaPlank Says:

    DalvinCookRules

Not sure if you’re describing Winston or Josh Freeman!

  19. LakeLand Says:

Even average teams don’t turn the ball over 13 times in 4 games

  20. BucfaninMi Says:

@ Dalvin Cook, I feel like Dirk is not putting the best players on the field.

  21. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Winston was the #1 overall pick in the draft, which he should never have been. His last year at FSU was not good. He is a turnover machine. SUCK FOR TUA IN 2020!

  22. BucEmUp Says:

Rick….your a fokcing idiot. That is the polite way of putting it. Do us all a favor and shut up

  23. FR Says:

When is ACCOUNTABILITY gonna affect the QB position?

  24. lambchop Says:

Caleb Benenoch needs to get benched.

  25. WyomingBucsFan Says:

How about accountability for Jameis. Im very suspicious right now that Jameis called his own play when he took the last sack in overtime. I know he won the game last year against the Saints pulling the same stunt. He needs to realize its not all about him all the time. It took a long time for him to come out and do his press conference probably because he was being coached not to speak about it. So basically lied to everyone when asked about it by the media. This guy is a great player but man when will he mature and stop being so selfish.

  26. unbelievable Says:

You’re right Dhusthy – RoJo didn’t score a touchdown, Carlton Davis and MJ Stewart didn’t play tight coverage in defense all day, and neither did Jordan Whitehead.

It’s not like the defense was actually the reason we won today.

    🙄🙄🙄🙄

  27. Architek Says:

And Donovan Smith played like crap too

  28. James Walker Says:

    Caleb Benenoch needs to go.

  29. DBS Says:

There has to be somebody on a practice squad better than Benenoch.

  30. James Walker Says:

unbelievable Says: “It’s not like the defense was actually the reason we won today.” I guess you missed the goal line stand?

  31. Gettinthebucs Says:

Ndog is exposing a bunch of the clowns that post on this site. Jameis definitely didn’t have his best game but the TEAM left a bunch plays on the field. Let’s not forget that cantkickcanzaro could’ve put this game away at the end of the 4th.

  32. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Dotson made benenoch look like Anthony Munoz but once again that career loser and walking penalty machine gets a free pass.

Dotson and smith killed as many drives as jameis turnovers but the racist haters fail to mention the facts.

  33. Getaclue Says:

Evan Smith needs to be starting

  34. Rick Says:

    BucEmUp

So you’re good with the average 2 picks agame? You’re an complacent idiot. You represent what’s wrong with the Bucs. You see the 300+ yards and say “no way Winston is the problem look at those yards” you are easily fooled. Oh and go f**k yourself.

  35. mark2001 Says:

Can’t believe some of you guys…..Two….2…forth down stops…one with our back to the goal line. Those are huge. When did we do that last time? I can’t even remember…must be back in the Sapp/Brooks days. This D has a boatload of issues….but those things saved this game, particularly the last one. Defense deserves alot of credit. Period.

  36. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Bucs are now 1-0 when Spence is active! Spence was active opening day and had a QB hit on Drew Brees.–Joe

  37. BucEmUp Says:

Rick if you think Jameis us the problem your an idiot. This was his first game with a defense that isn’t mentally challenged. Who would you have rather started
    ..

    MARIOTTA?

  38. JameisGirl1 Says:

First time poster but I’ve been visiting regularly since the Bucs drafted Jameis. Also a Falcons fan but jumped to the pirate ship when the Bucs drafted him. I catch hell from my friends for it. Half of this fan base is absolutely ridiculous! Jameis is only thing that makes this team watchable!! Jameis gives 150 percent in the off season and practice and on every play. Sure he makes mistakes but who doesn’t? He had a bad game today and the defense and kicker bailed him out. IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! Great team win!! Everyone should be happy!!

  39. Destinjohnny Says:

I question Jason vision on seeing anything

  40. unbelievable Says:

    @James Walker-

You need to re-read my post. That last line is called sarcasm.

  41. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Ndog, what about Jameis’s turnovers? Seems you forgot to mention that

  42. John B Says:

We finally find ourselves on d And give the ball away 5 times….thanks D!!!!!

It’s been a long time since the d won a game and today they did

    Fingers crossed!!!!!

  43. Lucious Selmon Says:

    @JameisGirl1

Not a Jameis fan, but I am a fan of ATL chics.

    Did I guess right?

  44. Anonymous Says:

Many of you tools complain about Jameis. What’s the answer? Let me guess..a journeyman back-up? Or even better….a rookie? Be happy we have a franchise qb.

  45. LongSeason Says:

Defense stepped up. We turned the ball over like Xmas and the defense was under pressure all day. Then they lose Kwon. That made a big difference. Somehow they still held on when they had to dig in. Thanks D.
