Could RBs Break Out Sunday?

October 12th, 2018

Breakout game coming?

Just yesterday Joe wrote how the Bucs throw the fewest passes in the NFL when it comes to short throws of five yards or less.

Though the stats didn’t mention this, it seems a lack of a pass-catching attack from running backs might be an issue. Well, that could change Sunday.

Greg Auman of The Athletic pointed out earlier in the week that in the past decade, only four games have ever included a running back having 14 or more catches. And half of those came this season against the same team.

The Dixie Chicks.

Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey each had 14 catches against Atlanta.

Joe wonders if this means Ronald Jones could break out?

they need to let this man play!!!

and anyone with any real madden experience will tell you you can see before the play whether or not you should audible out of a screen by the D looks

  2. FowlBall Says:

Fuzzy logic. The first two are light years better than Ronald, and what they are capable of has no bearing on Jones, who is no better than a two-down back, at best.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

“Catch? we all need to throw our 199lber sandwiches at him”

“Why is he playing and taking snaps from Barber? 199lber isnt ready for this level yet and should not even dress….

this team/coaches is forced to play useless draft picks from the Teflon Gump because it will make him look bad in front of Darcie Glazer”

  4. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    No!

  5. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

It won’t matter if they score 40 Sunday. McCoy and his girls will ensure that the Falcons have 1 more point than bucs do. It sucks that the best offense in bucs history has TWO opponents each week to compete against. It’s tough having to overcome both opposing and their own defensive units.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

All I know is that I have seen Rojo gang tackled just as he’s received the handoff…..I’m surprised that he hasn’t been hit before he gets the ball……nice job of blocking for him.

I agree….hand him the ball….let him play…..he will break one or two eventually.

Maybe put Vita on the Oline…..haven’t had good run blocking since Logan Mankins.

  7. Sunday_44 Says:

LOL at taking touches away from Barber.

You mean the Barber that is averaging 3.0 yards per carry and has 37 yards a game?

The same Barber who has 3 QBs with more rushing yards than him, including Blake Bortles?

The Barber who is 45th on the running backs list, with 0 TDs?

Do you mean that Barber, becauseit really seems we should definitely get him more touches?

This man is tearing it up and Rojo has no chance of playing!!

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

Kobe, he is not taking snaps from Barber. yet. He has gotten Rodgers and Wilson’s snaps so far.

  9. Alanbucsfan Says:

This OL has shown they can only do one thing well- pass block.
They are poor at run blocking, can’t set up a decent screen pass…
Bucs will not make playoffs unless they can run the ball or utilize backs in passing game. Teams will follow Pittsburgh and Chicago model and tee off on qb.

  10. Season Is Over Says:

The running game is so embarrassing I am waiting on the mystery injuries to sink the season.

  11. james west Says:

trade jones, fitz and a 2nd round pick to the giants for barkley, hell i would i would make it a first rounder, what ever it took to get him here short of getting rid of jameis, or evans or godwin, or oj or maybe fitz, jackson, and a second rounder, could you imagine our offense with sequon unstoppable

  12. Joel Says:

Jones is a bust with stone hands.

  13. Dewey Selmon Says:

James, the Giants are not getting rid of Barkley. Some of you have a madden mindset.

  14. bucinA Says:

Can you say creative running game. Screens aren’t that creative any more especially by the Bucs. You have to start thinking that Jones is the man. You would be surprised what happens to a rook when he makes one or two spectacular plays.
A wheel route or two, what the hell. Rusher off the edge, throw the flat. Fake end around?

Don’t even let me see Koetter with anything that resembles a play sheet in his hands. Why is Dotson still in there?! And oh yes fire Smith and what next?, promote Buckner, he’ll slap somebody upside the head + provide enough fire in the belly
for the whole team to keep warm.. Come on guys, you can have a field day with that Atlanta defense. Bucs 42 Atl 31.

  15. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

Bet you ROJo doesn’t drop any passes jaboo is back

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs are well rested and will play inspired ball come Sunday…I think. Defensive Line saves the day. Not the secondary.
    BUCS 28
    FALCONS 17
its them Browns I’m actually worried about.

  17. Bossmode Says:

Bad coaching it amazing how every other rookie including undrafted or getting playing time but the only 1 that suck is Jones. Jacquizz Rodgers is your excuse. It always the players with this coaching staff.

  18. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Damn James how can you even type that. Give the Giants a journeymen QB that has another year or two in him as a backup, a 2nd round bust, and a future 2nd rounder for a RB that looks to be every bit worth being the number two overall pick that he was. The entire Giants front office would be fired if they gave this even 3 seconds to consider and didn’t roll over laughing. SMDH!

  19. jmarkbuc Says:

    Joe

“Though the stats didn’t mention this, it seems a lack of a pass-catching attack from running backs might be an issue.”

Rojo’s stone hands might have something to do with that, ya think?

  20. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Problem is those two are the best pass catchers on their respective teams, both likely to finish the year with at least 80 catches. I think this had more to do with the strength of the teams they have played.

  21. Not there yet Says:

Lol I remember the media saying the same type of nonsense going into the Steelers game. Falcons haven’t played well but I don’t know why people keep talking about ending their season and who could break out as if we are like the patriots or something! Why is media so arrogant about a cellar dweller? Gonna have to learn the hard way I guess. When are you gonna make this team earn it instead of not only giving the win but breakout players?

The bucs are underdogs in this game still meaning they will probably end up throwing all game to keep pace so no breakout is coming

  22. Darin Says:

Yes the Falcons Rbs will break out Sunday. Smitty only had 2 weeks to not game plan.

  23. Pickgrin Says:

    Go Rojo!

It only takes one flashy 60 yard TD run and everyone’s opinion about this RB instantly changes…

Get the man some touches, create some space for him and it will happen.

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

Pickgrin- That goes for the two of them. We need someone or both to step up.
Now, about that right side of the o-line!

  25. unbelievable Says:

Hey Reality- how come you hide the entire time we are winning, and only show up after losses?

Don’t worry, I already know the answer.

I would love nothing more than for RoJo to figure out how to catch this week and break out, but I’m not betting on it.
