Jameis Or GMC?

October 12th, 2018

New face of the franchise?

The voices were loud on BSPN’s “First Take.”

In a panel shoutfest that included screamin’ Stephen A. Smith, hollerin’ Max Kellerman, Louis Riddick and Molly Qerim, the topic of what to do with “America’s Quarterback,” Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was batted around.

Virtually all four believe Jameis is out of chances with the Bucs; Riddick, a former NFL player personnel director, said he would have washed his hands of Jameis already. SAS said Jameis should start every game this season and then the Bucs should determine what to do with him. Qerim didn’t have much to say.

However, Kellerman sort of agreed with SAS, saying Jameis should be thrown out onto the field to sink or swim but in no way, shape or form should Jameis be the face of the Bucs franchise.

Instead, Kellerman said, the Bucs franchise should celebrate stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

You can watch the whole discussion below.

    How about ..neither.

We can’t even manage to assign a team captain, what do we need a F o F for?

  2. Robert Says:

    D) none of the above

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

I’ve got my popcorn ready to see what the comments are going to be.

  4. mizzle Says:

first take is an absolute joke

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

jmark- That caught me off guard this morning too when I read that they were waiting to assign captains.

  6. buddy Says:

People can hate on GMC outside the confines of One Buc all they want but he is well respected and valued by the people who really know. Never been in trouble, good teammate, good person all the way around. It’s easy to see why he’s had the success and contracts he has been given.

  7. Realbucfan941 Says:

Face of the franchise will be a brown paper bag if they lose to Atlanta Sunday

  8. mizzle Says:

the media seems to forget that this “incident” happened his rookie year and ever since he has been nothing but an outstanding citizen to the community smh

  9. Joe Blahak Says:

when both of these “fake leaders” are gone, maybe this team becomes something…

  10. Robert Says:

    @mizzle

it’s just as much about the lies as it is about the incident….er incidents and then some and more lies

  11. ATrain Says:

    Mizz

WHAT is He stupid Just got out of college had baggage he was still carrying from FSU so u grab a girls crotch then get your Upstanding friend to cover

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

    I’ll take Godwin or Howard.

  13. Robert Says:

    Godwin

  14. gotbbucs Says:

It’s been more or less a rudderless team with both players in leadership roles.
The first two weeks of this season were the only time I remember in about the last 6 or 7 years where it seemed like the whole team was on the same page. Then the whispers about what to do with Jameis when he came back got louder, Koetter didn’t get behind Fitzpatrick, and the locker room once again split.

Jameis isn’t a franchise leading player right now. He’s a class clown right now in my eyes. He can change this perspective with the remainder of this season, but to do that he needs to shut his damn mouth and play good consistent turnover free football.

  15. mizzle Says:

    Atrain,

Has he been accused of anything besides him yelling that jesture that we have all probably said worst things when we were 20 years old? I’ll wait…

Honestly idc who you call the face of the franchise I just want to win freakin games and make it to the playoffs. I just hate how the media likes to focus on so many damn negatives about the guy

  16. mizzle Says:

In my previous post I meant to say *convicted* not accused obviously

  17. Buc believer Says:

LMAO!!!! Whenever I see Joe write “stud” in front of GMCs name I laugh so hard I start to gag and cough!! Stud and GMC are SO polar opposite each other. If I didn’t know better I would say GMCs favorite part of the game is hanging around the locker room with his teammates and doing interviews.

  18. pelbuc Says:

We fans have had JW forced down our throats despite being a crappy QB with turnover and accuracy issues, not to mention character issues.. Bucs have no choice but to see how he plays out the season. As for the Batman wannabe, trade him while you can get anything for him. GMC is not part of the future and neither is JW. We all know the losing record with them, can’t do much worse without them. Fire the GM and get someone who knows how to draft.

  19. ChipBuc Says:

It struck me reading this story how little these guys know what’s been going on in Tampa. The whole body of work of Jameis, has been for the most part very good. For the last 2 and a half years Jameis has been a model citizen , not the trouble maker these guys are portraying. Expecting Jameis to win games basically with no running game, and virtually no defense is unrealistic. If you constantly put your QB 2 or 3 Tds behind, with no short fields, it leads to catch up mode. The QB in this situation must take chances he normally wouldn’t. Look at Goff and Wentz they both have above average defenses, running games, good coaching (very important) good O lines, thus they can let the game come to them instead of forcing things to catch up. Does Jameis throw interceptions when he shouldn’t? You bet, but you also see him make fantastic throws that not many QBs can make. So i guess the point i’m trying to make is I don’t think you’ll see the best of Jameis, until you put a complete team and coaches behind him. The talent is there lets bring it out. For the Jameis haters out there I know whatever I say won’t sway you ,so we will agree to disagree I guess.

  20. Reach87 Says:

Funny. Some self-righteous Bucs “fans” just absolutely cannot help themselves but to disparage someone on the team who goes out and gives it all he’s got in practice and games. Someone who is gonna do it this week as well. I’ll say it again, you sound like a bunch of Panther fans trolling a Bucs site. No “fan” attributes distributed at all. If you think you are being a fan by constantly attacking players on your 2-2 team, you got NO IDEA OF WHAT A FAN IS. Beyond Sad. Go Bucs!

  21. ndog Says:

I will just remind all of the haters in Jameis’s first 3 years he has some of the best numbers of any QB in the history of the NFL and yes that does include Wentz, Russell Wilson, Brady, Brees, Rogers, Manning, etc… So hate all you want if he just does what he has done to this point he is a hall of fame player. And even worse news for you is that he actually has gotten better each season in the league so odds are he is going to end up much much better than he has been thus far which means his career numbers will get better and better. Like it or not those are the FACTS!!!!!!

  22. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Bunch of bad a$$es behind the keyboards is what it is. JW haters and McCoy Haters would never stand face to face with either one of these cats and say the things y’all do. You wouldn’t wanna get ya a$$ kicked in front of your kids while your standing in line with your sharpie pu$$ies

  23. Bucsfanman Says:

Bottom line is that we don’t need a “face of the franchise”! We just need to become a GOOD franchise.
That’s not done with a picture of a player or a coach. That’s done by creating a foundation of accountability and respectability. It’s about doing what it takes to win football games and tuning out the noise.
Establish the culture of winning first. You could put the face of our long-snapper out there for all I care! We haven’t done a thing yet!
Lets beat the brakes off of Atlanta and decide later “who” we want to be the face.

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

    Knoxville- LMAO!!! Sad, but true!

  25. BringBucsBack Says:

When Fitzpatrick was starting, everyone knew who the leader was and he never had to verbalize it. He lead with his effort and his brains, not with his mouth. If you are great, other people will talk about your greatness, you don’t have to. If you are a leader, you don’t ever have to say it, people will follow you.

Now, we have shelved the productive and whily veteran QB and must suffer through a talented but inconsistent, slow-starting, turnover-producing, w-eating, fight-starting, rote-responding, misogynist, crotch-grabbing, man-child and his sophomoric behavior, on and off of the field, as our “leader”. I left out many foibles, still.

I, for one, am not energized by number 3’s return. Now, those first two games were energizing! Can #3 score 48, on the road, in a dome, against a division rival? If he does, whilst keeping his mouth shut and his hands to himself, it would be a nice first step toward leadership. Thanks to our D, they will have to!

  26. Architek Says:

C level star players – let’s keep looking for faces of the Bucs.

GMC isnt a leader of men and Jameis isn’t good enough and not enough skins on the wall.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

Agree with Robert … “None of the above”.

Bucs are still lacking true FIELD GENERALS. Fitz actually came the closest IMO to filling that role on offense … so they benched him. Kwon talks a lot, BUT … the performance isn’t there, not yet at least. Funny thing is, someone like Minkah Fitzpatrick could’ve been the type of FIELD GENERAL the Bucs have needed on defense for many years (LEADERSHIP is a critical trait that Licht should be drafting for in the 1st round, in addition to superb performance on the field obviously).

  28. OneBucPerson Says:

How about we split the baby and settle for either Mike Evans or JPP?

  29. BucEmUp Says:

At this point JPP has the biggest pair of balls on the team and backs it up. He’s prp0bably the best guy to put up on the side of the stadium.

As far as throwing Jameis into the fire and seeing how he finishes the season, are you judging him on wins and losses or his rating, completions, tds/ints etc?

I’ve said million times with the leagues worst coverage defense in probably the history of the league dating back over the last 6 to 10 years, I feel bad for anyone on the team being judged for wins and losses. Until its a balanced team I’m not judging any one player on the team record.

  30. bigdaddio Says:

Neither of them are particularly great. I would rate Jameis, maybe average, maybe a little below average starting QB (and before the FSU homers jump in here, tell me Jameis is better than any of these–Brees, Ryan, Newton, Rodgers, Stafford, Cousins, Goff, Wilson, Wentz). That would put him at best 9th best in the NFC out of 16 QBs. And other than a few bottom feeders, he really is not separated from the lower middle pack.

McCoy maybe above average. He’s just not a disruptor. Other teams have to account for him, but don’t fear him. When has he really taken over a game like true defense greats? Yeah, never.

Mike Evans and JPP are probably the best players on the team. Put JPP as the face of the franchise. He’s like the sleeping soldier in the movie Patton–he’s only guy who knows what he’s trying to do around here.

  31. Wesley Says:

    Mike Evans.

  32. LakeLand Says:

They haven’t been to the playoffs in over 10 years. They suck as a team, losing is the face of the franchise.

  33. Jim Says:

It was stupid and unfair to Winston to have that leadership role thrust on him from the get go. This team has no leadership, Chicago taught us that. It’s telling that JPP, our emerging leader, came from somewhere else…

  34. Bobby Says:

Jameis will be fine. He’s been a model citizen since the incident. I think he’s going to be balling the rest of the season. Now if we can just develop a defense……

  35. Trench War Says:

I think Mike Evans and Lavonte David are the best faces of the franchise

  36. Dapostman Says:

There is only one guy who warrants the face of the franchise and that is……………

    Mike Evans.

Once Winston gets to elite or almost elite and keeps his nose clean he will join Evans. It’s really not that hard to figure out.

These talking heads must not have seen the Bucs promo video with Winston about Raising Flags & Firing Cannons. Why would the Bucs put that out there if they were going to move on? They wouldn’t.

  37. BrianBucs Says:

This franchise does not have a “Face’ right now, and it certainly ISN’T America’s Crotchgrabber And Liar J-Miss Winston

  38. Pistol Pete Says:

I would vote Marpet…..dude has played 3 positions in 3 years…never says a word about it. Model off the field as far as I can tell.
At the same time, JPP feels a little like a less flaky Simeon. Dude is bringing it one handed and is making the rest of the D line look like they are in slo mo.
Also a vocal leader that the D needs. Makes me pine for the Sapp/Lynch/Brooks, Barber etc era….damn that team was amazing.

  39. D1 Says:

    Jim,

The main reason why Winston was the first pick was JL wanted a vocal leader.
Now you believe it wasn’t a good idea to push that role upon him…..Then why draft him..
