Calf Injury For Gerald McCoy

October 15th, 2018

“Vita, man, you ready to ball out?”

The right foot/leg of Gerald McCoy was in a boot yesterday because the six-time Pro Bowler has a calf injury, Dirk Koetter said today.

The head coach wouldn’t serve up any more details. The next official update will come when media is able to watch the first 30 minutes of practice on Wednesday.

Joe would say this is a big loss for the Bucs defense. But hey, when you’re the worst defense in the league and historically dreadful, Joe can’t go there for anyone on the defensive line because the Bucs do have some depth there.

  1. SKBucsfan Says:

I hope he is healthy enough for the trade deadline

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    ………

You know….. You could probably set your watch for accuracy when predicting every year GMC will be or get injured and will miss a few games.

Trade him for a 3rd Rd pick since he’s a nonfactor on the field on the Sunday anyways

  3. GhostofSchiano Says:

    More Vea Less McIcecream

  4. Lamarcus Says:

    Gmc is a garbage player.

  5. Sweeptheleg Says:

Vita Vea is fat and slow. Wasted pick.

    Got manhandled one on one.

    Vea is a non factor.

  6. Gobucs Says:

Vea was a wasted pick. Too fat and slow

  7. Buc believer Says:

What did he hurt himself with those dance moves?? Seriously I can TOTALLY see where GMC gets his softness from. I sat right behind his Dad in Atlanta and when he “hurt” himself Pops went rushing down to the field. I get that a parent loves their kid but the dude is a grown ass man and it obviously wasn’t a life or death injury. Not that any of GMCs “injuries” are really ever bad ones. Grow a pair Geraldine.

  8. Dre Says:

4th quarter down a score … GMC will not be there … he’s not going down with the ship … don’t blame Gerald … pathetic

  9. Warrenfb12 Says:

It’s not that big of a loss. The defense/pass rush has been bad/awful, and McCoy didn’t even show up on the stat sheet yesterday LOL. I don’t hate but dude is straight overrated by local media.

  10. Reach87 Says:

Idiots. 6 time pro bowler, 80 percent of our defensive snaps, I could go on but it won’t matter. Morons don’t get it…just keep spitting the same drivel against a member of the team they lie and say they are “fans” of. Sad. Go Bucs!

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I don’t know who is happier……GMC haters or Cleveland…..

  12. Zwak Says:

Huge improvement on the defense all in one day! Feeling we may have a chance after all..

  13. Architek Says:

    Defense will get more physical

  14. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

@Buc believer, you are most definitely entitled to your opinions. Aren’t we going just a little overboard when we start criticizing a player’s father for going down to the field over concern of seeing his son injured?

My kid is nearly 25 years old now. I would do the same thing. That is just love. Nothing wrong with that. Right?

  15. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    Two questions:

    1. Did he hurt it dancing with Kwon?

    2. When did it happen? I’m guessing right about the time the defense looked almost ok.

  16. LakeLand Says:

He should have wore his dancing shoes

Maybe he get’s an audition for ” Dancing With The Stars”

  17. Bucnjim Says:

yeah you posted that already and of course lacking facts or a valid argument!

  18. Bucnjim Says:

    That was for Tampa bay

  19. Buc believer Says:

Tampa Bay demon… I have a 30 year old son as well, and it doesn’t matter the age because your child is always your child I agree 1000%! I’m NOT being critical he cared DEF NOT let’s be clear. What my criticism was was the way in which it happened. With all the talk of him being soft and then seeing him “run” down there it all made sense. Couple that with the looks sent my way before hand whenever I would say anything about McCoy or the Defense during the game before the “injury.”

  20. Bucnjim Says:

McCoy leaves the field when the game is looking out of hand!

  21. SKBucsfan Says:

When I say trade him it’s not because I hate the guy. It’s because he is expensive, still has some value for a higher draft pick and could probably contribute on a winning team. It might do his career some good and it won’t really hurt us. It’s a win-win.

  22. Chris Cotten Says:

Will never understand how some of you freaks are consistently down on McCoy, all he is done throughout his tenure is give it all he’s got, while being surrounded by a lot of garbage for most of his career, I helped rivals up occasionally when I played back in the day, nothing wrong with character, I’ll sure miss him when he’s gone, and unfortunately it probably won’t be long

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

Laugh all you like. But We’d better hope his injury is not serious. MacDaddy ain’t goin nowhere..but back to the playing field. And if we lose him for an extended time. We’re gonna be hurtin..even more. You can count on it.

  24. Capt. Blighe Says:

Dammit thats a 1/4 of a tackle a game were losing.

  25. LakeLand Says:

I like GMC, I think he’s a very good, solid 3-Tech. I like his dance moves also.

    He’s dancin, dancin, dancin
    He’s a dancin machine
Watch him get down, watch him get down
    Oh bop shoo bop

  26. Joel Says:

This is an upgrade on defense. It’s sad that so many Bucs fan think this player is actually any good.

New DC and no McCoy on Sunday = better defense

  27. Bucnjim Says:

We had a leader once his name was Hardy Nickerson. He passed the batton to Brooks, Lynch, and Sapp. They in return helped Barber, McFarland, White, Ruud, Jackson etc.. The ship sank after Ronde’s Last game in the NFL. No one on our team seems to be able to take the reigns. No one one the field can motivate and that is huge. When you have players dancing after two straight loses and being ranked last in D possibly the worst ever? This is a problem especially when one of those players makes $100 Million and he feels he did a GREAT JOB just stopping our opponent on third down.

  28. John B Says:

Have always thought GMC was a perfect fit as a 3 tech DT on a 4-3 D

But the league has changed, a one gap penetrator with no ability to redirect the speed is a non factor on 95% of the plays – a la GMC

Time to move on if we can get any type of value in return – 2nd rounder and he’s gone IMO

  29. Zwak Says:

One sack per game if we are lucky if he almost gets two he will pull up and apologize to the QB while in the act? Ya he’s a bad ass Buc

  30. Rick Says:

We may never truly know what the injury actually is.

  31. Bucnjim Says:

    LakeLand,

The song is I’m a dancin fool by Frank Zappa. Old School but funny video!

  32. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Thanks for shouting back, @Buc believer!

and @Bucnjim….. Wow, Hardy Nickerson. — Damn, could we use him right about now??!!… to whip some of these kids into shape?

  33. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

@Bucnjim…. just to finish the thought, both Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp will readily admit to having been actually scared of Hardy when they were young players here getting started. — Can you imagine,, 2 future Hall of Famers… “scared”. — that guy Hardy led with an iron fist!

  34. Bucnjim Says:

Sometimes it takes extreme to turn the corner or change the losing culture

  35. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

No doubt, man. — Just to finish the thought on Hardy, both Derrick Brooks & Warren Sapp will readily admit that they were actually scared of him when they got started here. — Can you imagine? 2 future Hall of Famers… were “scared”. — Wow that is impressive, guy led with an iron hand!

  36. LakeLand Says:

When will Kwon get his 5 Year $60 million extension?

  37. Buc1987 Says:

Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da

    Batman!

  38. IndyBucsFan Says:

    I hate our fans

  39. JimmyJack Says:

Why do people get down on McCoy? Because of games like yesterday when our defense is getting scalded and he never steps up to make a play to stop the bleeding……Same thing in the prior two game. Our defense goes into a shell and that’s when you need your best players to earn their fat paycheck.

Nobody’s looking at B.Allen or M.J. Stewart to set a tone. We are looking at McCoy, Kwon, LVD. These guys are supposed to be the heart and soul of the defense………So why they never doing anything when we need them most?

Ever see this defense try to close out a game? Oh, right…..We saw that several times last year and we lost each one.

Each one of those 3 play below expectations. It’s not hate it’s disappointment

  40. Not there yet Says:

It’s a big loss for Geraldine, I’m sure the only thing that scares him is this team having success without him because then he’d have to actually have an explanation why he never has production but is being referred to as a leader and the best player on this defense which is the worst defense I’ve ever seen

  41. Reach87 Says:

Indy, they are not Bucs fans. Can’t be a fan and criticize everything about the team, criticize their families (classless to say the least), and turn every post into an indictment. Go Bucs!

  42. Lamarcus Says:

    Reach87

Yes we can. It’s called sports talk not a participating trophy contest

  43. LakeLand Says:

    To be honest

I didn’t think the Bucs had fans

  44. LakeLand Says:

    After 42 years of misery

Over 10 years since they been to the playoffs

    And they still have fans?

  45. JabooBuc Says:

love all you keyboard warriors. I assure you that none you guys could last a day playing in the trenches in the NFL. And don’t give me that garbage about him being a big guy too and that’s what he get’s paid for. Tearing your bicep is not being soft. Injuring your knee or calf or ankle because another 300 lb man just rolled up on you doesn’t make you soft.

Fact is you’re all soft for even suggesting this guy, or really any other NFL player is soft. These guys would man handle any of you at the drop of a hat. Bunch of soft ass haters…

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

Somebody here says, they hate our Buc Fans. Well, I hate losing..bringing up the rear..consistently, being the..laughing stock of this NFl. I hate it takes the glazers so long to make..obvious decisions, I..cringe everytime our opposition throws a pass..because I know..its a completion and we take a long long time..to tackle the guy. And lastly I HATE THE GD EXCUSES this franchise always is good..at making for being a sorry A.. franchise.
WIN GOTt..AMMIT!! Thats all that matters. Then I will only..LOVE..my team.

  47. Tbbucs3 Says:

Gerald McCoy is decent but he’s not a franchise player like the Bucs think he is. He is no consistent pass rush threat, sure he’ll get his 8 sacks by the end of the season but they come very sparingly. Gerald McCoy used to be better than he is now. I would see what I could get for him.

I am not one of those GMC trolls either, but if you think that Gerald McCoy is still a pro bowl player your wrong. GMC is one of those guys that opposing QBs can joke around with and have fun playing against. I want people on defense who opposing QBs fear and hate playing against because they make them so uncomfortable. That’s the start to building a great defense.

Let’s stop making it fun for opposing QBs cause right now QBs like Trubisky and Matt Ryan are doing whatever they want to us. It’s a 7 on 7 for them. It’s embarrising man.

  48. BuccaneerScotty Says:

10-4 jaboobuc love to see that !

  49. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I’d LOVE to know what NFL team is smoking up Licht’s cell phone on trading for McCoy?

  50. Doctor Stroud Says:

JabooBuc is right, but that won’t stop me from saying that Coach Koetter and his camps are soft. #PaidFloridaVacation

  51. JimmyJack Says:

There’s really no point in defending McCoy anymore. We needed him to make a play to stop the bleeding yesterday. He failed and that’s all there is to it. We needed him to step up and stop the bleeding in Chicago and on Monday Night. Failed.

Check back last year to see what he does when we need the defense to close out a game. More failing……And to be fair Kwon and LVD fall into the same boat but they don’t make as much money or wear a C.

I don’t know what your expectations are but GMC has never met any of mine.

  52. JimmyJack Says:

If GMC is that good how come he couldn’t make a play when we badly needed one yesterday to slow down the Falcons in the 1st half?

  53. JimmyJack Says:

Or in Chicago or on Monday Night?

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Or how about in our blowout losses last year. And where is his accountability for not making a play in the several games our defense lost in the waning minutes last year?

He is expected to make impactful plays isn’t he?

  55. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Jimmy Jack

I mean yea it woulda been nice to see GMC magically warp through the OLine and a RB to get to Ryan before he completes his two step drop slant route…

  56. diggler Says:

Y’all thinking the defense will get more physical is hillarious. You’re hoping a new DC that coached the most underachiving LB Corp in football is going to all of a sudden demand more physicality?! Most the these players ran Shiano off cause he was too demanding. They loved Smith cause he was lax. The 31st ranked d ain’t going nowhere!!!

  57. diggler Says:

Not making Buk the DC is laughable. Glazer kids are boneheads. Wish MG was still with us

  58. JimmyJack Says:

Some people just get stiff under pressure. They can’t handle it.

McCoy is one of these people. He just chokes man and that’s all well and good if he’s your nine-hole hitter…….But you can’t have that guy be the face of your team and your defensive leader.

And you can’t pull the rug out from under his leardership role. So ya gotta cut ties man. He means every bit as much to this defense as Mike Smith does.

  59. SpaceCoastJustin Says:

Every time I’ve had a calf injury it’s been from overuse/over training. So if vita and McCoy both have injured their calves… maybe Buckner should rethink the intensity of the D line training… it’s great to be tough on them… but once you see your players breaking down it’s time to ease up a bit.

  60. DB55 Says:

    Jaboobuc

I promise you that more Americans show up to work with far worse ailments than a sprained calf or a bruised bicep. Today I saw a 50 something lady refuse help with an automatic door as she rolled her wheelchair thru the small opening. #Facts

JPP tried to show up to work after blowing up his hand, lol, COME ON MAN!!!!

    Child Please! #GuardEngleheart #WeakHavoc #McIceCream

I sprain my bicep every time I see Casey uhmm nm

  61. JabooBuc Says:

Can you people just get a grip about McCoy? He may not be the best DT ever but he’s pretty damn good as identified by his peers. You know the people that actually play the game and voted him to past pro bowls.

Not to mention he’s been part of straight garbage since he’s been here. He’s had a revolving door of absolute nada next to him on that line for as long as he’s been here. Not sure how you blame a guys for that. Is he as good as he once was? Probably not. Unfortunately, his best years were spent playing for Cleveland South. Give the guy a break.

  62. adam from ny Says:

hardy was no joke…jpp is no joke…a lot of guys on defense are posing as leaders, but they are jokes…jpp would punk a lot of these dudes if they tried to get live on him…hardy was strictly biz back in the day – he came up with the steelers – and brought that bad ass tude to tampa…

mccoy hurt his calf showing the boys the new moves he’s been working on in the mancave between comic book reads…the gang was prematurely celebrating a loss with a quick sideline boogaloo…

mccoy being out for a few weeks is not much of a loss at this point…he’s not that important to this ball club anymore…he is expendable…you can trade him and throw in his batcave too as extra anti

  63. Wesley Says:

McCoy is pretty good, not great, but still pretty darn good. It really sucks that this fan base is so naive at times.

  64. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Get cancer93 and his soft arse play out of town. He’s a career loser and proven selfish locker room cancer. He’s pathetic period

  65. bigdaddio Says:

All this talk about Hardware makes me wonder if we can drag him off the golf course somewhere and come play for us. Can’t do any worse.

  66. Back2bucball Says:

Reach87 , you are a jackwagon! How can you honestly call out fans for hating on gmc? This bum has never won a game with a meaningful play, has all THOES pro bowls because hell, someone has to get there from the bucs and local pen and mic club beefs him up. Maybe because he has a fast get off. That mostly gets called for offside or first step to nowheresville ! He is super soft and that’s why most of the other teams big runs come in his hole! He cry’s and lays a pillow out for a qb he takes down, if he ever does take one down.. Even people on here that try their hardest not to belittle our own guys are coming around to see what he truly is… I for one am tired of looking at his face, his play & his approach to the game he so calls he loves! I would love the game too in the wrong way like he does if I got paid to be an animal but I am only ever a bug! He is a pathetic loser and we can get just about anyone & I mean anyone to make as much of an impact as he does game in and game out! We can find one for about 90 million dollars cheaper and use that money on everywhere else on defence

  67. BigMacAttack Says:

The only loss here is it hurts his trade value. GMC won’t be missed and they’re better when he’s on the sidelines. I’ve been begging for the team to trade him for years now. Gerald isn’t worth half the money he’s paid. Look at his injury time missed, his stats, overall defense ranking and team losses. He was a bust from the day they drafted him. 6 time pro bowl just shows what a joke that whole thing is. I give him credit for lasting 1.5 more games than I thought he would. Fat boy can now lay up on the couch in the AC and get weaker and more out of shape. He drags the entire line down every year. Swaggy got worse because of McCoy and his joking. Gerald should have lifted him up but instead drags them down. Why not? They’re all going to get paid, win or lose. GMC has tenure. Performance doesn’t matter to this team. What a joke.

  68. JabooBuc Says:

I swear some of you live in a alternative universe. He’s a 6 time all pro as voted by his peers and coaches. Not because of the nationally highly thought of Tampa pen and mic club.

Other than the one year when he was out with the torn bicep, he’s actually been pretty durable while playing one of the toughest positions on the field. As I said before, none of you clowns would say this stuff to his face because you are the soft ones.

I am far from the biggest McCoy fans but I at least have the common sense to respect his game. Just try for a moment to not be the worst fans in the NFL.

  69. Ryan McGregor Says:

    JABOOBUC

Actually, IIRC McCoy challenged his critics to come to One Buc a few years ago if they had a problem with him game. A large group showed up at One Bucs the following day ready to give McCoy a piece of their mind, but were turned away by security. GOD , I LOVE HARDCORE BUCS FANS!

  70. Doug Says:

    93 must go!!

  71. D the Bucs fan Says:

Yeah he definitely hurt himself dancing cuz that’s the only time u seen him on camera.

  72. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    JabooBuc

He is nothing more than a career loser and a complete and total embarrassment to masculinity

  73. JabooBuc Says:

Ryan- don’t recall this but were the fans (I’m sure it was a large number) prepared to put their hands in the dirt and square off with Gerald or just pop off like little yippee dogs without fear of any physical harm?

  74. AtlBuc Says:

I used to wonder why great free agents don’t come to Tampa. Its probably because of the way the fans treat their pro bowl players. You will never hear a Tampa Bay player say “We’ve got great fans” like maybe green bay players would say.

  75. AtlBuc Says:

Funny thing is that there are a lot of players on the defense who are much worse players than GMC but I don’t hear the “fans” bad mouthing them. I think it’s something else. I’m hearing pure hatred that seems to be much deeper than football. I haven’t heard anyone say anything about that kicker who can’t kick extra points consistently or offensive linemen when they let out QB get killed. I’m starting to think it’s a racial thing.

  76. Rod Munch Says:

Did Vita play yesterday, I didn’t notice him on the field.

Then again a 3-4 run stuffing NT is rarely going to make much of an impact in a 4-3 defense. Maybe Duffner will know what to do with him.

  77. Jmarkbuc Says:

“Funny thing is that there are a lot of players on the defense who are much worse players than GMC but I don’t hear the “fans” bad mouthing them. I think it’s something else.”

    Atl

15 yard penalty on you for playing the race card…Ask Chris Conte.

I thought apologizing to Big Ben was the last straw for me..then came the dancing on the sideline during a loss.. but you know, the most important thing is to have fun…

  78. Cobraboy Says:

@ Rod MUnch: you missed Vea shoving the OL backwards on a consistent basis.

  79. Jmarkbuc Says:

Oh and I can’t speak for everybody but I think we have done a pretty good job of ripping Grimes, Smith, LVD, Kwon etc, etc…
    Nobody on this D s very good..JPP,notwithstanding.
    And they aren’t the $100million players….

  80. Firrrreee Licht Says:

Vita Vea is bad… Licht and Koetter fired next. Then and only then will Tampa Bay transform to a winning team.

  81. Defense Rules Says:

@Buc Non Believer … “Seriously I can TOTALLY see where GMC gets his softness from. I sat right behind his Dad in Atlanta and when he “hurt” himself Pops went rushing down to the field. I get that a parent loves their kid but the dude is a grown ass man and it obviously wasn’t a life or death injury.” I’ll keep this brief … YOU’RE AN IDIOT. You obviously have no insight whatsoever of a father’s love for his kids.

  82. Bucsfanman Says:

Oh the comedy! You guys are more entertaining than sandpaper grit toilet paper!!!
He’s never been the player WE expect because WE expect Warren Sapp! He’s a Bucs who gets paid what he’s worth. I don’t even know why people care about his $$$ anyway! It doesn’t come out of your pocket.
Get well Gerald! We need you for the playoff run.

  83. McBuc Says:

The McCoy haters just don’t know football. Even JPP loves the guy for his play. DT are rarely sack masters. We were spoiled by Sapp. You guys should hate all of our DEs too, since none of them, even JPP, are a Rice type player. Oh. Night as well hate the LB squad, since none of them are At a DBs level.

  84. GoBucs73 Says:

McCoy haters don’t know football???? 4 tackles 1.5 sacks(questionable) in 5 games is pathetic. He shouldn’t be mentioned in the sentence with Sapp ever, he’s not good enough to carry Sapp’s shoulder pads in from the practice field. 93 is tissue paper soft and has the biggest ears and thinnest skin this side of Aaron Rogers.

  85. joestang Says:

look at Lichts recent draft pics. Vea cannot get on the field probably due to the heat and his weight. Jones is a clueless running back, Hargraves sucks if he can play. We drafted a 2nd round kicker who is now gone. His free agent signings have been terrible other than JPP. I believe anyone on this blog could draft better than Licht. He sucks and should have been the first to go.

  86. JabooBuc Says:

literally this entire offense was built by Jason. I know, he get’s credit for most of a lot of this defense too. But you only get so many draft picks. I think he’s got some good young talent on that side of the ball but they are not yet ready for prime time.

  87. Rod Munch Says:

Cobraboy – I didn’t miss it since it didn’t happen, or literally it happened only on plays when I didn’t notice. A quick look at his stats for the year, he has 1 tackle, total, and no pressures, and no QB hits.
