Bucs En Route To Century-Worst Mark

October 23rd, 2018

Remember those winless Lions of 2008, they had just four interceptions that season.

No team has hit that low of an interception total since — or in the last 20 years of professional football.

Since that time some teams have come close. The Raiders had just five interceptions last year. The Jets, Jags, Chiefs and Ravens have all had seasons of just six picks. Feel free to guess the records of those teams. Only the Chiefs mustered a winning record.

Buckle up, your 2018 Buccaneers have just one interception through the first six games: a Justin Evans pick of Ben Roethlisberger in the first quarter of that Week 3 game.

Stat nerds and common sense might say things will even out. The Bucs will get interceptions in bunches one day soon. Joe will go with that.

Currently, the Bucs sit at -9 in the turnover-ratio game. That’s a big stat to watch as the Bucs try to climb into a playoff chase. This defense should be better under Mark Duffner, but it’s not good enough to overcome a pile of offensive turnovers.

    That’s on the pass rush

  2. Conte Piscatelli Says:

    No pass rush+10yrd cushion=no interceptions

Face it we can’t even tip out bat a ball up to get a pick like that, and how would we ever jump a route from 10yrds deep. Or only hope had been wishing for a bad overthrow, our dbs would be in perfect position.

At least it looked like we played a little tighter coverage Sunday, and we will see what Duff can come up with.

  3. PSLBob Says:

    Playoff chase? Seriously?

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

    Do Jameis’s count ?

  5. D-Rome Says:

I’m not too concerned about this, yet. I do not have the statistics in front of me but it *seems* as if all NFL QBs are completing passes at a record rate. Perhaps it only seems that way because of all the Bucs games I have watched. I have to think across the NFL interceptions are down because QBs have never been more accurate (again, it seems that way).

  6. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

No pass once again on a gmc anchored line.

So jpp actually comes in and plays well. Yet, the career loser you bums make excuse after excuse every minute of the day, is nowhere to be found on sundays and of course her fragile arse is hurt again. The nuthuggers cried he needs help bucs give him help and same meaningless results from the face of the basement years cancer93. She is the most overrated fraud in buc history. So who is to blame this time for this career loser having zero impact on Sunday…. 10 years of excuses, soft play, quitting and running off coaches while accomplishing absolutely nothing for team. Me first selfish hypocrite loser that’s what your boy will be remembered for. Total classless quitter hiding behind the bs god card. Its no coincidence the line played smarter, faster and with passion without being hindered by the selfish one.

  7. joestang Says:

Unless its a bad throw we we not get 4 pics this year. Seems our defense is on track to break many records this year.

  8. Destinjohnny Says:

Draft better and all ur problems go away

  9. 813bucboi Says:

    gotta make the windows smaller…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

Draft beer and all ur problems go away…

  11. Joedante Says:

We drafted a bunch of corners who’ve never shown the ability to create takeaways… Go figure

  12. Bucamania Says:

When was the last time they even had a NEAR interception? It’s bad in the secondary.

  13. Darin Says:

    Pslbob
Theyre a half game out right now. I personally dont think this team will ever make the playoffs under Dirk but I hope I’m wrong. If they can stick around 500 theyll be in the playoff race regardless of how bad they can be at times. Theres alot of other so so teams out there. Lets hope the Bucs actually have a hot streak in them at some point.

  14. Gambelero Says:

When was the last time we got a turnover by the defense? Sunday made three straight games without one?

  15. DB55 Says:

Carlton Davis has shut down michael Thomas, AB and Landry. We don’t need no Patrick Peterson.

Grimes has missed 1 if not 2 ints and Whitehead and Evans are no where to be found.

MJ Stewart was a horrible pick, should have drafted Donte Jackson out of LSU who has 3 ints and 5 PDs. Thank god our division rival drafted him instead. Smh.

  16. LakeLand Says:

And they have 4 division games left

And these 3 QBs have thrown 6 INT between them

    Brees 0
    Ryan 2
    Cam 4

  17. LakeLand Says:

    Not only the INT

The Bucs has 15 offensive turnovers

The other 3 teams has a combined 17 offensive turnovers

  18. Robert L Schenck Says:

JUST WHOM will we beat rest of 2018? Maybe Saints? ….I HAVE NO ANSWER!! but will remain DIE-HARD BUC FAN!!!

  19. D-Rome Says:

Yet, the Joe’s and the FSU dorks keep trying to convince us Jay-Miss is going to turn it around any day now. That he needs more practice with DeSean Jackson. That the O-Line isn’t good enough. That he’ll eventually learn from his mistakes.

As a QB he’s closer to Andy Dalton than any top tier QB in the NFL. The Bengals will never win anything relevant with Dalton and the Bucs will never win anything relevant with Jay-Miss.

  20. ATrain Says:

I think the Bucs will have more with new press coverage

Or put Jamies on the other side haha

  21. Alphabucfan Says:

Reality is in love with gmc that’s why he talks so much about him. Until you play in the nfl on the dline you can’t speak about or criticize such player get a grip dude not one player is to blame for the Bucs basement finish it’s a team sport if you didn’t know that

  22. DB55 Says:

    Reality

Notice how when McIceCream doesn’t play not only do we have our first goal line stand in well since the last time he was not playing BUT ALSO we got 5 sacks without McIceCream on the field. Coincidence? Obviously not!!!!

  23. #1bucfan Says:

Reality is in love with gmc that’s the only reason he can talk so much about him. Have you ever played in the nfl most likely not. Have you ever bin a dline maybe but you can’t critique a player wen you’ve never bin in their shoes before. One player is not reasposible for the team being in the basement if you didn’t know it’s a team sport get it together bro

  24. DB55 Says:

    D-Rome

You wanna talk about the TD pass Djax dropped in the end zone?

  25. theodore Says:

Hard to get an interception when you’re no where near the receiver.

  26. firethecannons Says:

The cornerbacks that Licht drafted that we play exclusively are not known for int’s–Davis, Stewart or Hargreaves. I think the way they have been playing off coverage is a factor in that.

    Next draft–1st round:corner

  27. BurgDweller Says:

Hard to think this team is capable of playoffs at the moment. They gave the Browns multiple opportunities to win the game but since it was the Brown, they failed. Any respectable team in the NFL would have taken it to the Bucs throats and came out with a victory.

  28. firethecannons Says:

I think we should market GMC–dude is good and is a well known commodity, he never seems to make a difference on this team

  29. Joe Blahak Says:

in the games GMC has missed over his career the Bucs have done OK without him…He is the most overrated player I’ve ever seen, Bucs or otherwise…When has he ever made a play to win a game?…NEVER!

  30. SFNJ Says:

Joe – is VH eligible for return this year? Any word on his rehab?

  31. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    DB55

yes sir…. you know it! Everything is better about defene when gmc is not there. Notice how they were FLEXIBLE AND MOVING GUYS AROUND…. that surely does not happen when the selfish me first pos is crying about I only play 3 tech. I am a 3 tech… In others words he is saying he is about himself not what is best for the team. a decade of failure led by this bum… he sucks the life out of eveything he comes near free agents, draft picks, coaches, obviously he has a picture of a glazer in a comprimising position or their blind arses simply want more basement titles.

    alpha

gmc is the root of all the organizational problems. until that is changed nothing they do will matter. A team is only as tough or smart as it’s the weakest link when your highest paid player and face of the franchise is the softest and mentally weakest player on the field you stand zero chance.

  32. Phil Says:

Maybe we can trade Gerald McCoy for Patrick Peterson.

  33. Realbucfan941 Says:

    Joe B,

Just curious, you say GMC is there most overrated player you’ve ever seen. Who exactly is hyping him up. I read and watch tons of national media, even local. Haven’t heard him mentioned in years national, locally very little. You guys on this board are the only ones, and you can’t stop talking about him. I don’t get it.

Meanwhile in LA, Donald is lmao. 7-0 and counting.

  36. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    Saints keep gettng better

  37. Vivian Says:

Bucs should look at S Karl Joseph of Raiders and/or LB Hasson Riddick of Arizona.

  38. BurgDweller Says:

@ Realbucfan McCoy has been hyped up for years by the national media. Every game you hear the announcers say something like “McCoy, the 4 time pro bowler, face of the franchise, leader of the franchise” stuff along those lines. My guess is they don’t watch every Bucs game and don’t know how much of a fraud he has been. The local media knows he stinks but either don’t want to say it in fear of not getting interviews with him or just to stir up fan controversy.

    “gotta make the windows smaller….”

Which happened by about 50% this week. Secondary was playing much better. Carlton Davis III is looking great and MJ had a nice game also.

  40. EA Says:

Our d line should start raising their hands to deflect more balls and get a few lucky picks by our line backers.

As long as JW is behind center bucs will always be on the minus in the turnover ratio.

  41. adam from ny Says:

with duffers in charge, if we become a defense that ranks 10th to 15th from here moving forward. we will be in the hunt…and i’m saying from here moving forward, with the first six games being basically wiped off the slate…so the next 10 games we have to be ranked 15th or lower….anything is possible…

basically you can wipe the entire season off the slate at this point like it never happened…3-3 is like 0-0…

we have 10 games…time to go 7-3…season start now fellas

  42. Dan Says:

Playoff chase. This is a 4 or 5 win team with Winston at qb and will be until he’s not starting. Here’s what we know. Winston will start. Winston will flash. The Winston defenders who care more about him than winning will defend him through every single loss. And when crunch time comes Winston will shrink and turn the ball over. Still his followers will blame someone else. Here’s reality Winston hasn’t shown you who he is. A loosing qb who throws tons of picks. Why don’t you believe what you see.
