Breakout Opportunity For Brate

October 3rd, 2018

Is Cameron Brate about to nail down the first 90-yards-or-more receiving game of his career?

It’s as good a time as any for the Buccaneers’ big-money tight end.

Yes, Joe was always stunned by the stat above. Brate is a nothing-special blocker and isn’t a speed threat, but his great hands, work ethic and chemistry with America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, scored him a deserved fat contract.

After Sunday’s bye, the Bucs will roll into Atlanta without starting tight end O.J. Howard (knee injury) and with the starting QB who made Brate’s professional dreams come true.

Atlanta is where Brate caught his first NFL touchdown (2015) from Jameis. And in six games against Dan Quinn’s defense, Brate has caught a whopping 17 of 20 balls targeted his way.

The wounded and wiped out secondary of the 1-3 Falcons allows opposing QBs to complete 70.6 percent of their passes, and combined with Howard’s absence, it should be the tonic for Brate to have a breakout game.

One would think the Falcons will throw their focus and defensive respect on healthy and explosive deep threats Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson, and Brate can clean up in the middle of the field and move the chains. (Man, Joe sure hopes part of the Bucs’ strategy is keeping their defense off the field.)

Brate said Monday on the Buccaneers Radio Network that the shot in the back he took on his touchdown grab against the Bears was nothing more than him getting his wind knocked out. No worries there.

Brate also talked about how developing timing with quarterbacks individually is absolutely real and critical, and he has that down with Jameis.

Hopefully Jameis will continue that connection with Brate. But more important is the connection with D Jax. If he does not have a connection with DJax, we will never beat other teams when they score 35+ points on us. SMH

WOW! We went from Fitzmagic to worst than “Tennessee Ready.”

Poor Season ticket holders. Hopefully there won’t be a need to ask for a refund.

Brate is one of Jameis’ favorite targets – since he entered the second half Brate was targeted at least three times. Compare that to not a single catch his first two games this year with Fitz.

  3. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

Dude OJ Howard left the game early. That’s why…

    Back to ignoring DJax too.

  5. Jmarkbuc Says:

If Dork’s calling plays there will be a steady diet of Hump-Brate, with an errant pass to Djax and high and outside balls that nearly get ME killed.

  6. Jean Lafitte Says:

JW’s usual targets are Evans, Brate, and Hump who are great stop and catch receivers. Forget about hitting in stride moving targets like DJax, Godwin, and Howard. That’s the biggest difference I notice between Fitz and Winston.

  7. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

It sure doesn’t feel like 2-2. It feels like 0-2.

With Jameis back watch the kicker being an issue again.

  8. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

^ that’s if we are in the game.

  9. BushidoEvans Says:

Jameis loves him, but sometimes his ball placement gets Brate killed on those touchdowns up the seam…side note how many teams are going to keep falling for that, all of his TDs look exactly the same. Anyway, here we go, this next game I believe the true Bucs will show themselves, one way or another. Something tells me the team that played the Steelers is who they truly are.

I wish Brate could play defense…….who knows it may just help.

Don’t forget the runs up the middle for 1.2 yards and 1.9 yards to put us at 3rd and 7 or 8.

  12. Ted Kamensky Says:

As a Theodore myself, I felt like it was necessary of me to point out what a whiny bitch @theodore is. Find a new team to complain about dude; Jameis isn’t going anywhere.

  13. Jaywill Says:

Jean I guess you didnt see the catch in stride by Djacks from Winston against the Patriots or the multiple long td catchs to O.J. Howard last year. How about the catch and run by Godwin against the Panthers & the one against the Saints to end the game. Lastly what about the throw to Evans between to Dbs after avoiding a free blitzer.

    @Ressurection

Kicker has already been an issue all season long. But go ahead and #BlameJameis

  15. Alphabucfan Says:

Go Bucs who ever is QB or defensive coach GO Bucs

    @jaywill
Saw fitz make similar throws and better ones in 2 games than Jameis has in his whole body of work with the Bucs.
Having said that I really want Jameis to mimic what fitz did and even do it better (less turnovers). Our future is with Jameis. Where will he take us?

  17. 1sparkybuc Says:

It must be very frustrating to want the Bucs to win and Jameis to lose.

  18. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Yes, especially with Jameis at QB. — Jameis loves throwing to Brate, and he is set to have some big games.
