Because It’s Time To Get Ready For Next Sunday

September 2nd, 2018

Game week!!!!

Man, Joe is fired up for next Sunday in New Orleans. And in that spirit, it’s time to look back at the video below — one of the more engaging moments of the lost 2017 season, following the Bucs beating the Saints in Week 17.

For the record, Joe thinks Koetter would kick Sean Payton’s ass and Jason Licht would manhandle Saints GM Mickey Loomis.

New Orleans 35-10 in a blowout!

  2. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Gotta give it up to Dirk for being the bigger man in this exchange.

For all the concerns I have about the coaching staff that Koetter has constructed, gotta admit he is a phenomenal person. There’s a great video on Youtube showcasing his upbringing and his almost folk hero status in Pocatello Idaho.

Obviously I love the Bucs and hope for their immediate success. I just hope that DK’s allegiances to the 32nd ranked Defensive Coordinator from 2017 don’t haunt us this season.

  3. Dave Pear Says:

Oh. Looks like LakeLand finally got out of jail.

  4. ElioT Says:

    For the record…

Sean Payton is in great shape and has been doing CrossFit for years. Not that cross training means you can fight, but if I had to bet, I’m putting money on Payton. No offense to Dirk…

If I was forced to bet on week one, I’m putting the mortgage on the Saints. History will tell you the Bucs are going to come out sluggish and get smashed.

Know, and damn sure don’t underestimate your opponent Joe. That’s how you walk into an easy a**-whoopin.

    Go Bucs!!!

  5. Defense Rules Says:

SwiftyBuc … It has nothing to do with Dirk Koetter’s allegiance to Mike Smith. If the Glazers (and Licht) didn’t have full confidence in Smitty you can be guaranteed he wouldn’t be in their employ. They’re businessmen first & foremost with billions on the line.

In the 2 years he’s been here, Smitty’s DLine was abysmal primarily due to marginal talent. Any defense is dead-in-the-water without a decent DLine. His defenses gave up tons of yards, but they were able to rank near the middle-of-the-pack in terms of POINTS ALLOWED. The defense made the difference IMO in 2016 in terms of the Bucs posting a winning record. Unfortunately the personnel changes (ya, and injuries) in 2017 saw us slip big-time in terms of rushing defense especially. I’m really hoping that the DLine additions this spring will pay off big-time & allow us to rank in the Top-15 in terms of POINTS ALLOWED this year. Only time will tell how these major personnel changes work out. Until then, still cautiously optimistic …

  6. Bird Says:

Payton is scum. He was upset that he thought we were playing dirty

The same guy who ran atmosphere and paid players for a hit squad Nah. Koetter would whup his ass. He’s got the size over him.

DONT forget people , Saints record for opening home games is not very good.

  7. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Time for another Poll

  8. Jason Parker Says:

@ElioT you might want to be careful with that mindset. Koetter may make people shake their heads with how the team performs. But he always had his team ready to play game one. He has yet to lose a season opener since becoming head coach.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Dirk got totally punked in that exchange, and to make it worse at the press conference afterwards he wishes Payton good luck. Another thing that is huge are the players not doing anything. Let’s say Payton tried to punk Dungy like this, the players would have went to the Saints team bus and dragged Payton off of it and busted him up. If Gruden was punked like this I have no doubt he’d have responded in some fashion. Dirk just stood there with a dumb smile on his face and wished him luck. It’s just embarrassing. This of how much more hyped this game would have been if Dirk had done the same thing but just threw in a jab, like “I wish him luck, break a leg” – a call back to the Bucs breaking Payton’s leg. That would be awesome, that would be how you build a rivalry, instead we get a boring bland soulless milquetoast sanitary game. The NFL is entertainment, so entertain us and sell some tickets.

  10. BucEmUp Says:

    Swift Buc…
100 % agree. Despite what defense believes, when asked about this coaching staff at the combine Jason Licht responded with “Hey this is Dirk Koetters coaching staff”

It is Koetter and.only Koetter keeping Smitty around. I went back and re watched the game in the super some frm last season..This team got BULLDOZED!!!!! The corners we playing so far off the line.some plays they were not even visible on the t.v screen.

Anyone who thinks playing off coverage so the time is not a problem, I would LOVE for them to.explain why no top defenses in the league deploy it even HALF as much as the Bucs YET still believe that its.going to work here.

Telling you right noe.I.dont.care who.is.on that defensive line. If they play that coverage this new cast of lineman will have the same trouble getting to.the qb as last year. It’s a very simple equation. When you.have 10 to.15 yards between the wr and the corner it’s not going to be very difficult to pass for.a.copletion before anyone even gets code enough to breath on the qb let alone sack him.

Smitty needs to.go..I know I have seen the corners playing somewhat tighter coverage this preseason , but my money says he reverts back to his old ways and shlts all over himself week 1. It will be the same.excuses we have heard year after year. “It was.communication breakdowns, we as coaches have to do a better job making sure these players understand where they are supposed to.be blah blah blah blah blah womp womp womp…..SHUUUUUUT UUUUUUUUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least hopefully with the added talent this will be evidence enough that the coaching is complete crap on defense. WEEK 1 SLAUGHTER!!!!!!

  11. Broy34 Says:

BucEmUp hundred percent correct. U could have Reggie white Michael Stratman sapp and McCoy on the d line and they wouldn’t get 10sacka 15 yards off

  12. Destinjohnny Says:

    Nice dirk!
    Way to
    Show some strength

  13. BigMacAttack Says:

I just want to say that I feel this defense is ready for them and I like our chances. I also think Peyton Barber will have a big day. Jameis is out but the Saints will underestimate the Bucs. Sean Peyton has a giant ego that may get the best of him.

  14. gotbbucs Says:

New Orleans ran a bounty system to injure opposing players. Sean Payton can go pound sand.

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

Dirk is 2-0 in season opens and season finales. It the games in between that are giving him problems.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

Payton has always been a b!tch

  17. Buc believer Says:

Joe I am a Buc fan thru and thru I live eat and breath my beloved Bucs but Dirk being able to whip Peyton?? PLEASE! Dirk doesn’t even look like he could whip my wife who is only 110 lbs.. he is the softest dude in coaching. As far as Licht whipping Loomis I think he is to stupid to even know how to throw a punch. The dude looks like just a big duffas.

  18. Eric Says:

Sean is a jerk but wins.

Kinda like another coach we used to have here.

We love the nice guys around here that get along with the local hack media and all. Super important.

The saints have to be piping mad for not only the way the bucs beat them last year, but that insane loss to the Vikings.

Likely to get real ugly unfortunately.

  19. stpetebucsfan Says:

Payton had a good run with that Super Bowl team…he and Brees had four consecutive winning seasons so they get props…but after that…

They ran off three consecutive 7-9 records…they weren’t even mediocre!!!
Then they had their “turnaround” season last year.

I would also say “kind of like another coach we had here” but that coach had a LOSING record after his SB win including 7-9 the year after the SB.

  20. Eric Says:

Ah the usual leaving out the two division titles and three winning seasons post super bowl.

Very similar to Sean. The difference is the Saints were not dumb enough to fire their super bowl winning coach and expose themselves to the bucket of suck we have endured for the last ten years.

As you can see the local idiots would also have fired Sean Payton.

    SMH.

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah it’s all Sean’s credit…Drew Brees has nothing to do with making him a “great coach”.

  22. Eric Says:

Ah I suppose Bellichick sucks cause he has had Tom Brady.

Takes great players and great coaching.

We have had neither for ten years if you haven’t noticed.

  23. WeAreLost Says:

    LOL good times, not really.

  24. BigMacAttack Says:

I think the Saints will come out tough. I expect dirty hits and I also expect they’ll run into brick wall. It’s time to send a message to the entire league at the Saint’s expense. I’ll be surprised if Brees makes it through the game. Head hunters are coming for him.

  25. DanBucsFan Says:

Bucs are gonna kick some aints a$$ n Dirk is the man !

  26. Kobe Faker Says:

“Saints truly believe the next 2 years they should win the 2 superbowls. They believe they have the QB, coaches, playmakers all over the field, etc that are superior than any other NFL team. They truly belive last year they could and should have won the superbowl if they had the opportunity. They are expecting great things this year…

    We? We are the Yucs”

“What does Kobe Faker and the Tampa bay Bucs have in common?

“We both live in the basement”

    Kobe Faker

  27. adam from ny Says:

koetter shoulda just stood there all and deadpan and muttered the phrase:

    “you feel lucky punk?”

    #GoAllEastwoodOnThatMofo

  28. adam from ny Says:

peyton is kinda sneaky dirty…bucs gotta be ready for shenanigans

  29. adam from ny Says:

payton is the type to run a tight end sideline pass play right to where koetter is and then as the receiver goes out of bounds he gives dirk a forearm smash to the head – knocking him down hard

  30. feelthepewterpower Says:

Payton got Dirked. Dirk was standing his ground, and wasn’t giving an inch. Love seeing that out of our coach. The Buccs have to have that same mental toughness this season………….

Show the entire team that clip and how Payton backed down like a little B!!! The team will need to stand-up to the Aints in week one!

  31. MrGone Says:

Adam, wasn’t it our Bucs that broke that punk Payton’s leg on the sideline?

  32. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Eric

Perhaps you did not read my post! Again..

“Payton had a good run with that Super Bowl team…he and Brees had four consecutive winning seasons so they get props…

That was followed by three 7-9 seasons. What do you call that?

  33. Jaycee Says:

    Koetter showed class
