“The Jameis Era Is Over”

September 24th, 2018

Dire words from ex-Buc.

In the eyes of Ian Beckles, the Bucs are about to enter waters upon which there is no return.

In no uncertain terms, the former Bucs guard and popular local radio personality believes if America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, does not take the turf at Soldier Field on the shore of Lake Michigan on Sunday in Chicago, his days with the Bucs are done.

And Jameis has no one to blame but himself, Beckles said.

#BlameJameis

Beckles took to his podcast “In the Trenches” to suggest the Bucs are in a massive pickle when it comes to starting quarterback. Beckles made it clear the way former Bucs backup Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing, there is no way he cannot start.

But by anointing Fitz the starter, which Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported yesterday is the case, it sets in motion all sorts of things behind the scenes which Beckles believes ends with Jameis wearing a different team’s uniform next fall.

“What is scary is, is that if Jameis didn’t mess up, Ryan wouldn’t be in there,” Beckles said. “So, are you benching Jameis more for Jameis or more for Ryan? And the answer is Ryan. And Ryan Fitzpatrick and what he is doing now is masterful. If you ask me if Jameis would be playing better in the same situation my answer would be ‘Hell no.’ I just don’t know if anybody — I don’t know if Tom Brady looks better in the same situation as Ryan Fitzpatrick has in these first couple of games because he has looked fantastic. …

“Jameis left a lot of plays on that field last year. And Fitzy is not only not leaving plays on the field, Ryan Fitzpatrick is the best player on the field two weeks straight. …

“Jameis Winston is not a backup quarterback. He doesn’t think so. His agent doesn’t think so. And Jameis Winston, although this is all his fault, is not going to sit on anybody’s bench. He’s not.”

Beckles stated he doesn’t think there are 20 quarterbacks in the NFL more talented than Jameis. And as a result, Jameis and his camp will begin working behind the scenes to facilitate a trade.

“If I am his agent, I am calling Buffalo right now,” Beckles said (before Josh Allen beat the Vikings yesterday). “I am going to get you a first-rounder for you. My player is not sitting on the bench. He has to play. If you don’t play a whole year, your status changes. Jameis is not sitting on anybody’s bench. He’s too good. He’s too good.”

Just today, Jameis hired his new agent, Joel Segal.

As for potential landing spots for Jameis, there would be takers. The Cowboys jump out at Joe right away. Jerry Jones doesn’t buy into the hysterical nonsense that so many Bucs fans have about the off-field crap.

No, the 49ers are not a target. John Lynch has way too much cash invested into Jimmy GQ to bring in Jameis. Besides, that market really would have people protesting (unlike Tampa Bay where Joe has not seen one person picketing outside One Buc Palace). Oakland is a whole different issue. No one likes to collect quarterbacks more than Chucky, though honestly, Chucky would probably like Fitz more than Jameis.

San Diego and Washington are a couple of other spots as their starting quarterbacks are long in the tooth. Perhaps the Giants. Joe isn’t sure if John Mara is the squeaky clean owner folks claim him to be (for example, he tolerates if not enables that overgrown child Odell Beckham).

Joe thought we were past this. Joe thought the Bucs finally had a franchise quarterback. If Jameis were to be traded, the Bucs are right back to where they were four years ago having to tank to draft a quarterback or hope someone else’s sloppy seconds can get the job done.

Hope is not a strategy.

  1. BucfanBF Says:

If they were to trade Jameis that would be one of the biggest mistake outside of drafting Bo Jackson and letting Steve Young go….
    Not happening

  2. Easy Denman Says:

Jameis is the future of this organization.

  3. James Says:

I agree that the more games Fitzpatrick starts, the bigger the risk of Jameis becoming disillusioned and wanting out becomes.

The issue with cutting/trading Jameis, however, is that in the event that Fitzpatrick gets injured/decides to retire/reverts to type, the Bucs have gone from 2 starting QBs to none.

If the Bucs continue to win games this year, they slide out of QB range with their 1st round pick in the next draft (unless they trade Jameis and whatever compensation they receive is sufficient to trade up in round 1).

  4. Boogie Nightz Says:

Garbage just plain garbage. JW isn’t going anywhere. Beckles is just saying that so people will listen to him bloviate. Move along and lets focus on becoming 3-0 tonight. LETS GOOOOOO!!!!! FIRE THE CANNONS!!!!

  5. Bird Says:

Not a jameis hater. However , I don’t make excuses for him all the time like many people do. Including joe.

    He ain’t going anywhere

One place not mentioned though would be the jags. Blake bortles is not the guy.

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

Jameis isn’t in any position to act like the entitled a4shole Beckles is assuming he will be in this situation.

This organization has stuck by him and his off the field BS. He owes it to the team to be a good team player and be happy he had his 5th year option picked up next year and be happy he is employed.

And they would get a terrible return in a trade – maybe a 2nd rounder at best – considering the off field issues and the contract a team would need to give him soon.

Would be a really dumb move by the team and by Winston to start sh1t right now.

You really think teams want to give up a lot of draft capital for a QB demanding at trade while coming off a sexual assault suspension? Are you kidding me?

And the Bills just spent multiple 1st/2nd round type draft capital to get Josh Allen. Sorry but this guy has no idea wtf he is talking about

  7. Couch Fan Says:

Lol Jameis isnt going anywhere. Anyone who thinks otherwise just isnt very intelligent. Jameis will be the starter again. He just has to wait for Ryan to come down from his hot hand. Which he will. Jameis is the franchise QB.

  8. TakeYourVitaMen Says:

Koetter can thank Kate P for the start of this season, and for the change of culture. I hope these idiots learn a lesson from this Jameis interaction. Way too many red flags for a number ONE pick. cmon man!

  9. Joel Says:

Could’ve had Josh Allen. Instead we took Vea who is a bust already

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

There is still the balance of this year and all of next before the decision needs to be made….drafting a QB in the 1st to hedge the bet next year would be wise.
Go check out 2019 mock draft and I’ve seen 3 with the Bucs taking a QB with the first pick….oh gawd it is tough being a Buc fan….

  11. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Not sure if Jameis is damage goods. If he was indeed traded, hopefully he would get a first round draft pick. At the very least, he would be saving the bucs 19 mil next year and 30+ mil with a new contract. Fitz might only be commanding 10-15 mil the next two years. Jameis gave his word to Licht that he would keep his nose clean prior to the draft and he has failed. Bucs owe Jameis no loyalty. He brought this on himself.

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

People with podcasts or websites will always come up with outlandish opinions to get clicks or visits. Winston is not going anywhere.

  13. Wausa Says:

    BucFanBF

    I completely agree.

Trading or getting rid of Jamies is idiotic fan or media talk.
The decision makers for the Bucs are not idiots and are not going to get rid of their franchise QB.

  14. gman Says:

I don’t think Jaboo is going anywhere this year…and I think he will be our starting QB game 1 of 2019. We keep riding the hot hand as long as we can. Nobody saw this coming.

  15. D-Rome Says:

This is an absurd take. As long as Licht is around this will never happen. I can’t think of any GM recently that was given an opportunity to draft another franchise quarterback.

  16. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Sure Jameis is talented and might be the one of the best at his position in a few years but do the bucs want Jameis to be the face of the bucs? There is more at work here than just talent.

  17. Matt Says:

For all of Jameis’ off the field crap… No one would ever claim he’s not a team player “in the building”… I think he would ride the bench all year and not say a negative word..

  18. joestang Says:

Beckles sucked as a player and he sucks as an announcer. He has baggage of his own. Never trusted or liked him.

  19. Joe Says:

    D-Rome:

This is an absurd take. As long as Licht is around this will never happen. I can’t think of any GM recently that was given an opportunity to draft another franchise quarterback.

When it comes to Jameis, that’s a call from the guys Licht answers to.

  20. JWBUCS Says:

JOE… Has everybody forgotten the talent shown during the Pre-Season by our #2 back-up Quarterback Ryan Griffin…. Let’s assume Jason Licht finds a Team that will trade a High Draft pick for Jameis Winston and our Bucs GM makes a great team deal by moving along with our once hoped upon Franchise QB…. And the reason he trades is that our Coaching Staff, particularly Koetter and Monken are in agreement that Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to start as long as he is showing the HOT HAND.

So the Bucs get the remainder of 2018 out of our 35 year old Quarterback and then we look to Starting our 27 year old Ryan Griffin, (His Age Next Year).

The Value not immediately considered under this scenario is the money saved by avoiding the 5th Year 20 million the Bucs will pay JW next season, and possibly D. Jax does not return…. Now there is budget dollars to insure a contract to Ali Marpet, Donavon Smith, Kwon Alexander, and keep Lavonte David and Cameron Brate in their current contract. Just food for thought! Oh… please do not bash me, cause I actually support JW and hope he has matured dramatically, ready to serve in a Number One capacity!

  21. UgandanKnuckles Says:

All this franchise does is make mistakes so this wouldn’t be surprising.

  22. Slugglife Says:

Whatever. Just win tonight. That’s it. Don’t care who throws the ball. Just win.

  23. UgandanKnuckles Says:

We should trade Fitz before we trade Jameis. Let another team make the mistake of making him the permanent starter.

  24. OneBucPerson Says:

Beckles is a blowhard, I know it’s his job but still. That’s just too outrageous of a claim to ignore.

  25. Some Guy's Burner Says:

“Jerry Jones doesn’t buy into the hysterical nonsense that so many Bucs fans have about the off-field crap.”

Is this what we’re calling sexual assault these days?

  26. Buc1987 Says:

    Cause Beckles is never wrong…..

  27. Joe Says:

    Some:

Get back to Joe when Jameis has to stand in front of a judge.

  28. Zwak Says:

First of all JW doesn’t even have an agent right now.

Just remember all our quarterbacks looked great in the preseason? It’s because of Todd Monken, this guys a wizard play caller! When JW goes back in and trust me he will, he will look great also. We will lose Monken in the off season he will be a head coach next year and a very good one at that!

  29. horse liver Says:

Ian Beckles is one of the longest running idiots in sports journalism. He’s always wrong, he never won, he never knew how to win, he wasn’t very good. He sucks.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Zwak…..”Just today, Jameis hired his new agent, Joel Segal.”

  31. Slugglife Says:

Ugandan knuckles- why don’t you just come right out and say you hope Fitz tanks tonight so you can feel like you have some type of unique insight? Just admit you’d rather lose than see Fitz succeed. Just do it and get it over with.

I stand by my statement that losing is so ingrained in this fan base that we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory every chance we get.

  32. Pittmans Biceps Says:

It was a mistake to draft Jameis in the first place with all his baggage. Lovie was on the hot seat and made the pick out of desperation. It’d be silly to double down now, with the mediocre on-field product and disaster off-field.

The current Fitz/Jameis debate aside, we need a QB the community can rally around. Jameis cannot be that guy now, given his history. Understood that there are some vociferous Jameis fanboys here — but keep in mind that this website is populated by hardcore fans. Go out and survey 100 Joe Citizens, and you’d find that the majority are opposed to him. Survey 100 Jane Citizens — doubt you’d find 10 who support him. Licht and the Glazers aren’t blind to this, obviously.

  33. BucsFan90 Says:

Lol no way we trade Winston. Are you kidding me? You are gonna trade the youngest qb in NFL history to throw 10,000+ yards, 60+ TDs, only QB in history to start career with back-to-back 4000 yard seasons? For what? A future 1st round bust? Not happening folks. Jameis the future of the franchise, whether you like it or not. On the flip side, there is a reason why Fitztragic has been for 7 different teams in 14 seasons. Only a fickle moron would let a whopping sample size of 2 games OUTWEIGH his previous 133 lol. If Jason goes ahead with this, he should be fired on the spot.

  34. adam from ny Says:

this is actually the best thing that ever happened to yung jameis…he is getting a hard dose of reality that will hopefully change him forever…he is learning a lot in the process too…and he can sit for a bit like all young quarterbacks used to do back in the day, behind the starter – wait your f’in turn jameis and learn to be more like fitzie…grow a beard for starters, don’t massage any beavers, and be a humble rumplestilskin

  35. MONKEN! Says:

Another suspension is coming for Jameis – a full season or more. The climate in the country right now doesn’t tolerate the kind of behavior he has displayed. Look at Wenstein, Kavanaugh, et al.

  36. Slugglife Says:

Who cares what the sample size is? We are talking about today, tonight and this season. Not 7teams ago. Don’t care. Don’t care about next season either.

Right here and now. Jameis will play when Jameis plays. He did this to himself. He alone is responsible and if he’s as good a teammate as he’s been portrayed and I believe him to be, then he will humbly await his return and full get behind the success of the TEAM. If he can’t do that, then maybe he chooses to opt out and become a FA. Again, his situation belongs to him.

  37. Fartman Says:

I got a landing spot for you…. New England. I think its up to Jameis. Ian made it sound like Jameis wouldn’t take sitting on the bench very well. So, in that scenario, a problem in which Jameis created all on his own and becomes petulant about it, then he would probably need to go. If he is the team player every one says he is, then he can watch Fitz for awhile and wait for his chance to get back in the line up.

  38. adam from ny Says:

does anyone not realize because of the money invested in early picks and quarterbacks, they get thrown to the wolves immediately…years ago quarterbacks would sit behind the starter as a student of the game for a couple of years and get worked into the offense appropriately…as it should be…

    let jameis marinate a bit…and think…and get cerebral…

marinate like a fine wine jameis…and one again lay off the beaver!

  39. Greg Says:

I have always hated the Jameis Winston pic. He’s an absolute douche bag off the field and a turnover machine on the field. Nothing has change since his college days. People obsessing over him like he’s the greatest quarterback in the NFL are just delusional Florida State fans. Fitzpatrick proved that other quarterbacks can come into this system with these weapons and do a better job than him so why are you people stressing out like Winston is our only hope. Winston will be gone after this season And we will have Nick Foles as our quarterback next season along with Ryan griffin. Support Fitzpatrick . Support the Cinderella story this season. rejoice in the fact that Fitzpatrick probably saved our head coach and general manager’s jobs. And be ready to move on from Winston.

  40. Phil Says:

I hope the Bucs don’t screw this up. It only took us 40 years to get a franchise quarterback. Jameis looked really good in the preseason. Better than Fitzpatrick. It would be ashamed to have to wait another 40 years.

  41. adam from ny Says:

i can see him going to new england or pittsburgh…with pitt in a swap for lev bell…how long will either of their qb’s actually be around…hopefully the bucs aren’t dumb enough to do it…if he can sit behind brady or big ben for a minute, let him sit behind fitzie…it’s a shorter wait behind fitzbeardrick to reclaim a starting qb spot anyway

  42. deminion Says:

I think financially the glazers would do it so they aren’t on the hook for a long term contract to free up dollars but realistically you betting fitz turns into Arizona Kurt Warner which has only happened to a few guys Rich Gannon and Kurt Warner and it was sustained ! so if you wanting to bounce a guy for 2 out of this world games by a journey man QB then you are worse than a guy mortgaging his house on a hand of poker #risky

  43. Issaic haggins Says:

Glazers had better realize they got exactly what they drafted and shouldn’t blame Jameis so much as they should mentor him .
Franchise qbs are hard to find and the Glazers are about to make the same mistake Gruden just made . Personal feelings and egos need not be part of personnel decisions especially when you knew exactly what you drafted!!! Don’t blame the playa, mentor him so he can really change and just be a Great Plaer !!!

  44. adam from ny Says:

there is no shortage of beavers in new england and pittsburgh either…and they are less sweaty than florida or zona beavers…
jameis would be a happy man in a happy land over there…

oh wait isn’t oregon beaver central…the closest team to oregon is jameis’ top choice of departure

  45. Jeff Says:

Just flat out disagree with Ian. Jameis and Fitz BOTH know Fitz will fizzle at some point. Jameis is a consummate team mate and will bide his time, cheering Fitz on knowing in the back of his mind he’s eventually going to be out there running the show.

  46. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Trade Jameis and draft Wil Grier or wait another year and get fromm, Tua or Justin Fields

  47. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Adam

Current CBA is beneficial to teams as far as salaries go. Young QB’s play now because they are cheap for the first four years. Think LA Rams. That’s why they could sign all those players, cuz Goff is cheap right now.

  48. Big Stinky Says:

Why would the Bucs trade Jameis? Fitzy can’t keep this up forever. JW has to know that he is the future for the Bucs. Besides, RF14 was happy being a backup, right? If Fitzpatrick continues to play lights out other teams would be interested in him being their starter and we could trade him for a 2nd round pick. We still have Griffen to back up Jameis so we will be alright. I can’t imagine the Bucs would let JW go after investing 3 years in him. Dirk probably knows already whether Jameis deserves the 20.9 million or not. It would be nice to see him play this year though to know for sure.

  49. Pittmans Biceps Says:

Issaic haggins — James needs a mentor to realize that he shouldn’t grope women? Seriously?

Jameis isn’t a kid anymore. In theory, he should be the one embracing the rookies and mentoring them. Instead, he’s banned from the facilities.

There’s a reason they pulled down Jameis’ banner from Ray Jay. It’s going to take a lot more than a few good quarters of preseason football to get it back up there.

  50. adam from ny Says:

“new bad news burries old bad news”…and if dumb jameis would pay this lady some go away money and let this case get buried, it will become old news and he can get back to balling…if jameis fights this lady tooth and nail for 75k get rid of him…it will be a huge drawn out situation…

“new bad news buries old bad news”…this can be gone in a heartbeart…remember vick beating dogs…remember big ben’s rape case…they go away fast if handled correctly…if jameis is gonna fight, let him go

  51. Realbucfan941 Says:

Jameis is the starter when this streak dies down!
Ian beckles is a blow hard!
Anyone who thinks Jameis will have another “incident” of any kind like this again is misinformed…. You’ll see! What the Glazers think it’s all that matters and supposedly they’re still behind him.
Jameis has grown on the field and will continue to do so. Just like Watson came back to Earth there’s growing pains for all new QBs. I think he’s past his. A great play caller will help him.. aka Monken…. Ok That’s enough.

  52. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Licht might be a GM but he answers to the owners. I think most owners stay out of the way on personnel decisions or the make up of the team UNLESS it affects the bottom line – money and image. The Glazers are not known to have much patience and Jameis backstabbed Licht by having another sexual misconduct.

Remember, the Jameis is the face of the bucs and right now nobody his buying his Jersey’s and he is mockery outside of Tampa. Even if the team wins the Super Bowl with Jameis at the helm, there will be fans in Tampa who will still hate the Bucs until Jameis leaves. Jameis did not do any favors to the Bucs or the owners, especially to the women fan base. I think this would be the out the Glazer are looking for. Beckles might not be like but he has a point and I think if Fitz keeps winning Jameis will be gone by the start of next season.

  53. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

@Realbucfan941 – “Anyone who thinks Jameis will have another “incident” of any kind like this again is misinformed…. ”

Did you say the same thing when Licht draft him!

  54. MtBucsFan Says:

Lol trade Winston for Bell. Big bens about done!!!! Honestly JW3 is going no where. Fitzpatrick will fail soon if not tonight.

  55. Schlomie BarmitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

As stupid and morally bankrupt as Winston is, he understands that you have to stick with the hot hand. He’s not going anywhere.

  56. 813bucboi Says:

it simple imo….jameis sits until fitz screws up in back to back games……Winston and his agent would be fools to want out…..unfortunately, the history has shown fitz cant keep this up forever…..

Winston will get his chance whether its week 10 in the playoffs or next year….the key for him is to be ready and not try to outperform fitz…..don’t expect to throw for 400yards and 4TD’s….expect to win nothing more nothing less…..

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  57. Walter Seidel Says:

…and the FSU fans go berserk. But we BUCS FANS are ready to move on from this No. 3 nightmare. GO FITZ!! GO BUCS!!

  58. Pittmans Biceps Says:

    @AlabamaBucsFan: Preach!

  59. Kalind Says:

Classic idiot Beckles. This guy is so predictable. His whole Schtick is to say dumb controversial things to get people like us to click/listen.

    Stop listening to this tool.

  60. Onetrickpony Says:

Im scared they would trade him for a number 1 pick and our fearless leader would draft a kicker, with that pick.

  61. JA Says:

I love fans with opinions, especially idiotic ones. The couch potato GM’s and coaches are the best reads. Same goes for the “fire everybody” and those that label players busts after two games, whether they’re playing or not!
When the daily stress of life catches up and I begin to feel down, all I do is come to this site for a dose of moron opinion to feel better about myself. Thanks guys—keep misspelling words and spouting insane dialogue from your padded cells. I love it!

  62. Dubcity06 Says:

Yall mad but everything he said made sense

  63. NJBucsFan Says:

Anyone that states he is or is not going anywhere is just stating their opinion. No one outside of the top 5-8 people know any discussions going on. Not to mention, I am sure that any potential decision is not final. The situation is still fluid.

However, if Winston starts to make a big stink, that will be a big red flag to all organizations (including the Bucs) that he is not team first.

  64. Broy34 Says:

Joel- how do you get out of bed without walking into walls? Because you’re that stupid

  65. Roadwarrior Says:

Jamis ain’t going anywhere Ian Beckles doesn’t know what he’s talking about they just say stuff so that people will talk about it. Both Joe’s know Jamis isn’t going anywhere.Y’all just take a deep breath and hold it you’ll feel better.

  66. Slugglife Says:

    MONKEN

WTF are you talking about? Pure nonsense.

  67. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

@JA “Thanks guys—keep misspelling words and spouting insane dialogue from your padded cells.”

    Who be missspelling words?

  68. Godeep66 Says:

I love to see all these snowflakes just melting away. The clown show will be departing soon and will be the best thing that’s ever happened to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers He won’t dress for the Chicago Game. Why waste a roster spot on him??? He quit on his team, the fan base, and Bucs Mgmt. He is a liar, stealer (crab legs).

  69. Jbeachbuc Says:

I mean seriously… “how magical” was Fitz last year behind last years O- line??
At minimum you Gotta give Jameis a look with what Fitz is working with this year.. No??

  70. Joe Says:

be the best thing that’s ever happened to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

So winning a Super Bowl wasn’t good enough for you — with a wifebeater of a running back who gained 124 yards?

  71. Slugglife Says:

Yeah Joe, he did have a great game.

  72. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Jbeach

    He was 2-1

    Jameis was 3-10

  73. Issaic haggins Says:

Pittman your bi Ceps are from roids !! Yes the glazers do not bring the growth and leadership with coaches and players like say the Steelers and Pats……….. They advance a young mans growth and responsible outlook to themselves and the lives around them . Robert Kraft mentors troubled players and also lets them know he is there for them ( Randy Moss) !!! The Glazers are pouting and hurt and just can’t fathom that Jameis and others just may have grabbed Ma mas crotch many many ahh times !! Yes Leadership and involvement can make one realize otherwise .

The Glazers need to man up and even work a discount from Siegel or Jameis can play for the tender , which btw no agent should be paid for !!!!

  74. diggler Says:

@horseliver agree with except that he sucked. Dood was a tenacious run blocker and a very decent pass blocker. He far from sucked.

  75. Issaic haggins Says:

BTW buc fan 90 is dead on but the Glazers are more micro than macro with personal and coaches. Winston’s a clown but so is half the NFL , ask Beckles if anyone grabbed a crotch at yukatan lick her stand when he played . Jameis is Again a clown but again so is half the NFL but they aren’t the best qb ever by some matrics!!! Glazers better wake up and while Fitz is great he is some sort of bad when pressured ,let us not forget preseason !!

  76. Neil T Says:

I’m tired of people saying he’s done. He is our FUTURE and I cant wait for him to play so he can prove all these idiots wrong. It would be dumb to let go of a guy who is about to enter his prime

  77. Pittmans Biceps Says:

@Issaic: I beg to differ that the organization and ownership do not develop players — as would the likes of David, McCoy, Evans, etc. We are lucky to have an entire team of mature football players, except for one.

Even if I were to agree with your contention that an owner needs to mentor his players (which I do not agree with), do you really need a mentor to tell you to avoid groping a woman?

I’d argue that the Glazers and the whole front office took a big risk on Jameis — financially and credibility-wise. They trusted him. They gave him a second chance. They supplied him with sufficient off-field resources. And despite all that, and with full knowledge of his previous behavior, he threw it back in their faces.

Now you’re telling me they aren’t doing enough? Come on, man.

  78. ben Says:

trade Winston and show respect for the team and franchise

  79. Bob in Valrico Says:

Game 4 is way too early to reach a decision on Jameis. Hard to make a decision
without seeing proof on the field that Jameis can run this offense efficiently.
But business decisions are looming in the future, when the Bucs could possibly
lose players are currently playing well and stars that have blossomed into ” can’t
do without pieces” of the team So decisions have to be made on how much money can be tied up for any one player..

  80. cubarican84 Says:

I’ve lived fandom hell for too many years waiting for the Bucs to draft and hit on a franchise QB. If they trade Jameis Winston, I will quit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for good.

  81. Jman Says:

Haskins this year. Even better is Tua next year. JeffBuc May have an aneurysm

  82. kma119 Says:

I respectfully disagree with the assessment that if the Bucs were to trade Jameis, they either have to tank or take on a quarterback that another team doesn’t want. Look at what the Eagles were able to do the year they got Carson Wentz, what the Texans were able to do by getting Watson or what the Rams did by getting Goff. Like it or not it’s fair to question whether Jameis is the future for the Bucs. He turns the ball over too much on the field and he hasn’t left his college days behind him (doesn’t matter if the uber incident was two years ago, he is unavailable now because of it). I get the bias, I get wanting Jameis to be the franchise quarterback, and I see the upside, but Fitzpatrick has been able to do what Jameis hasn’t with mostly the same players as last year (and yes, I agree the playcalling has improved). If a team is willing to trade a first round pick (or more) to get Jameis, I say pull the trigger and use those picks to move up the board and get a quarterback. I don’t think he has shown enough to cement himself as the future of our team.

Godeep… is people like you who make this snowfake want Jameis to go elsewhere. Jameis had to take the accusation claim because he would not have won. He just never calculated Godell
would suspend him for 3 games…so he fired his baseball agents…who failed in his eyes.

People all the time make plea bargains…he took it on the chin to not damage the team or his play. Well it back fired and he was suspended for 3 games, DJax is looking out for himself so why shouldn’t Jameis look out for himself and his family.

NEW AGENT, NEW TEAM…NOBODY PUTS BABY IN THE CORNER…youngest player Big Ben overcame rape and hitting on Stormy Daniels!

NO doubt Jameis will do well now…he is older and those balls in preseason was on point!

Short sighted take by Beckles. I would play Fitz vs. what is now a formidable Bears defense on a short week no matter what happens tonight because he has been with the team (and more importantly the 1s) since training camp. IF you wanna start Jameis, give him the bye to get ready. Although I think he will kill it when he returns, I would leave Fitz in as long as he is winning and, as Saban likes to say ” wins the team”. We actually have the best QB situation in the NFL if managed properly. WE control Jameis through next year (option) and two more franchise years if need be. I love Ian Beckles but think this take has NO merit. Go Bucs!!

  85. K_Bassuka Says:

Why in the world would anyone listen to what Beckles has to say? Why in the world would you jeopardize the franchise by trading a young franchise QB for a hot at the moment backup QB? Can someone please remind Beckles that it’s very hard to find a quality QB.

    Alabama,

No I didn’t because I didn’t want to get dragged into the JW MM debate. Thanks for asking though.

Ian is a joke plain and simple.

Koetter can thank Kate P for the start of this season, and for the change of culture. I hope these idiots learn a lesson from this Jameis interaction. Way too many red flags for a number ONE pick. cmon man!

If we were actively shopping Jameis, the word would be out.

I’m calling bulls!t on any truth to Jameis getting traded unless possibly if it’s for some insane king’s ransom…which i don’t see happen considering the public image black eye Jameis has. Look I think Fitz is an awesome dude, as a resident of upstate NY I’ve gotten to watch Fitz with the Bills and the Jets. I’ve seen the ending to this movie several times…the first 2/3 of the act draw you in with the exciting special effects, then there’s a half hour where the script starts going awry and finally the last 15 minutes are a hot mess leaving the viewers feeling like they’ve just wasted 2 hours of their lives. Fitz is a fantastic guy to win you a few games, but when the team desperately needs a win and the season is on the line you can bank on a pick 6 or two. That said I hope FitzMagic keeps balling at the level he is, I just know it’s like Lucy pulling the ball out from Charlie Brown…you know it’s going to go bad.

Reason why I stopped listening to Beckles years ago… just screams clickbait Jameis is the Future

  92. Gettinthebucs Says:

I don’t think Jameis is going anywhere. Hopefully we can keep him on year below market deal and improve the team even more.
