“That Wasn’t Us”

September 30th, 2018

Time to study tape.

Two men on today’s Bucs defense that know what it takes to win a championship. That’s Jason Pierre-Paul and Vinny Curry.

Early in the game before it became a blowout, JPP was jawing with teammates trying to get them to focus and get their minds right.

JPP also had a sack to keep his pace for a 16-sack season intact. After his sack, the Bears went to a seven-man protection scheme that gave Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky so much time a sundial grew moss.

Sometimes, each Bucs pass rusher had two Bears offensive linemen on him.

Curry was absolutely outraged when Joe spoke with him after the game.

“Man, it was just, we just have to come together,” Curry said. “We have to look at this tape as a group and understand that wasn’t us. We are better than that.”

When Joe asked him if it was as simple as Bucs defenders freelancing too much, Curry wouldn’t say.

“I have to watch the tape,” Curry said. “We have to get this fixed. We need to evaluate ourselves and understand that wasn’t us out there.”

    LOL

Sorry Vinny Curry…………welcome to the culture of losing

I’m sorry for you too JPP

  2. Season Is Over Says:

Yes, it was. Unless they stole your uniforms. Sick of the same old tired cliches of nonsense. Just admit you sucked. At least you would still be respected.

  3. William Walls Says:

    Then who was it?

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

LMAO!! That wasn’t us aye? Man, the Sh.. people say after an A..Whippin. It was you alright. It was the SOB’S (same Ole Bucs!)

  5. Wesley Says:

But are you? Defensively I think not.

  6. Sydney Says:

You are what your last place defensive ranking says you are.

  7. EA Says:

“Guys think they’re out here on vacation” just say it JPP, you won’t be the first free agent that said it.
This coaching staff is a joke.

  8. Robert Says:

It was mike evans throwing the game from the start

  9. lambchop Says:

At least JPP is home in Tampa. Good weather and no income tax gotta count for something. Any who, #FireMikeSmith and fix this defense and we can win. There’s too much talent all around to have Klueless blaming the players and saying Mike Smith doesn’t make the tackles and cut guys loose. Stop with the loser blame game and hold your staff accountable. If you can’t come up with a game plan, make adjustments, or coach your players better than this in the 4th game of the season, the owners and the GM need to handle business on their terms.

Boycott home games till Mike Smith is fired. Preach it. E-mail, Call, Tweet for Mike Smith’s firing. Demand a better product for your hard earned cash.

  10. ChanEpic Says:

At least we know what the problem is. The defense, offense, special teams, coaching and general managing. Once we get those parts of the game taken care of we’ll be fine.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sorry Vinny….when you look at the tape….you will have to say….yep, that was us…..
I hope this is one of those a$$-whippin’s that gets a team riled up….stay pi$$ed for two solid weeks…..like us.

  12. Kalind Says:

Yea. I’m not one for pointless protesting/shouting at the sky…but if I lived down there, I wouldn’t go to a game until Mike smith is gone.

This can’t be allowed to stand. “We’ll get it fixed.” B you’ve been fixing it for 3 years. You got the wrong mechanic

  13. NJBucsFan Says:

Conte was glue…once he got injured…all down hill

  14. Not there yet Says:

Sorry curry welcome to Tampa that’s been them for a decade lead by McIceCream. Can’t say it’s not you if it’s been you 4 games out of 4. Lvd can go, move Kwon to outside put Beckwith in the middle, trade McIceCream and go after Seattle safety oh and not the one you had Licht. Chris conte was bad but Isaiah Johnson has no business in a professional uniform, can’t believe they kept that trash over Tandy and of course it came back on them

  15. JimmyJack Says:

Whatever go sit in the AC and watch videos you lazy bum.

You bums didn’t even practice all week and you know it. Chicago outworked you and kicked your frickin teath down your throat. You guys are a bunch of soft lazy bums. You quit out there today and nobody believes you will redeem yourselves…….that’s how bad you suck.

  16. BucEmUp Says:

Like I’ve been saying for YEAAAAARRRRS!!!!!!!!

YOU CAN’T SACK THE QUARTEBACK WITH CONSTANT SOFT COVERAGE. EVEN WHEN OUR CORNERS DID PLAY ON THE LINE THEY BACK PEDDLED AND NEVER MADE CONTACT WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE YARDS!!!!!

NO DISGUISED BLITZES AND I’M WILLING TO BET KOETTER WAS CALLING PLAYS TODAY AS WELL!!!! THAT WAS NOT MONKNE CALLING THAT B.S!!!!!

  17. LakeLand Says:

Didn’t Mitchell Trubisky threw 6 TD in less than 20 minutes of possession?

  18. Doc Says:

When you bring in loosing coaches, who have been fired for loosing, you get the same junk. Start with a true football G.M. and a young coaching staff. Get rid of that 2003 play station defense and that other junk. Management need to look in the mirror.

  19. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Naw its definitely the bucs defense, been the same crappy defense since schiano left and progressively has gotten worse, lets see derek carr set a raiders record, case keenum got a huge contract, derek anderson owns the bucs, marcus mariotta, matt ryan set a falcons record, joe flacco set ravens record, so welcome to the club BIG MITCH, you are not alone

  20. JimmyJack Says:

Hey funny thing is we are still 2-2. And I think we do have enough pieces on defense to win with. Same thing with offense

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Dusthy that list is so embarrassing……. quite a few names you could answer that list also. Carson Palmer comes to mind

  22. NPRSageBoy Says:

At least we still have America’s Turnover Machine.

  23. INSPIRED? Says:

    WASN’T YOU? that’s f@cking JOKE!

let me ask a silly question. Was there ANYONE who didn’t BLOW THERE COVERAGE MULTIPLE TIMES? what the hell was that? Can little Grimes do ANYTHING at all? He sure looked STUPID A LOT! Did you guys see the look on his face everytime they put a camera on his mug? Does he even know he’s in a football game? Did anyone notice how on EVERY SINGLE TOUCHDOWN that the Bears threw that our “SO CALLED” defenders

  24. Couch Fan Says:

Regardless of the personnell, thats exactly what this defense is under Smitty. There is 3 years worth of tape to prove it.

  25. DB55 Says:

Lol, welcome to the Deep South Vinny Curry where having fun and be a good person outweighs fighting and winning. It may not be you or JPP but it’s what the fine good folks of Polk and Pasco counties demand.

At some point somebody has to call McCoy out in public. Break the locker room. It’s long overdue.

  26. INSPIRED? Says:

    WASN’T YOU? that’s f@cking JOKE!

let me ask a silly question. Did anyone notice how on EVERY SINGLE TOUCHDOWN that the Bears threw that our “SO CALLED” defenders never even ONCE turned to see where the ball was? not even counting every single play of BLOWN COVERAGE! I just need to stop there. It just goes on and on! I’m in shock and awe…. It actually looked like none of the secondary had ever played football!

MICHAEL SMITH, YOU ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT… I’d appreciate it as would lol of us if you would walk in there and retire today. You know in your heart of hearts that you are done. Not because we say so, it’s because YOU know so. You know that you are only hurting us as a team and literally ruining all of those young men’s futures as well as you are personally going to get (and I Do mean literally) your friend Letter fired because he refuses to put you out. Leave with what dignity you have left before you are truly hated by many thousands of people. You are ruining people sir. PLEASE LEAVE

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I guess we can’t blame this on Conte….

  28. LakeLand Says:

The offense shoulders some of the blame also. They don’t get a pass, they sucked as bad as the defense.

  29. T REX Says:

That is you. That’s you all year.

  30. Kansas95Buc Says:

At what point do we address the inefficiency at the run game(Levon Bell perhaps) and the terrible defensive playcalling? We are we subject to see the same problems on the field year after year? Are we in the Twilight Zone Joe? 🤔📺

  31. Bucamania Says:

JPP was the ONLY guy doing ANYTHING out there. Just a disgraceful effort.

  32. DBS Says:

Yes. It you and your defense. And it has been giving up an average of 30 points a game for 3 years. Welcome to Tampa.

  33. webster Says:

Atleast we know jpp is not the problem. Thats a start i guess. Atleast we as a fan base can finally agree its definitely the defense regardless who starts at qb. Asking a qb to play perfect in order to win is only what stupid buc fans expect. The defense has been the main problem for years. Glad that argument is put to rest. I guess

  34. Architek Says:

I swear every week defensive backs are looking lost two or three times a game – who’s fault is that???

  35. Jeffbuc Says:

    Fire Mike Smith now

  36. FortMyersDave Says:

I am afraid Koetter and Licht are gonna go to the short week/injury card. Koetter will probably defend Mikey by pointing out that all parts of the game and coaching facets were bad. Truth is we have seen this garbage before in Phoenix Minneapolis and so many other places in the past couple of years. This is on Koetter but Smith has to go as his D has been below average in every game except for thatstretch where the Bucs feasted on banged up KC and Seattle teams in 16. Glazers do the right thing. Make Licht and Koetter releave Smitty of his duties…..

  37. TampaBayAllDay Says:

It’s games like this where we need a defense to keep us in the game. We can’t have a shootout against a team with a good defense. When was the last time the defense won us a game?

  38. FortMyersDave Says:

TB all day. Last time Bucs D won a game. 2016: 16-8 vs Saints, 14-5 against Seattle and the win in KC. 3 good games in 2 plus seasons and so many times Smitties’s D has made QBs look like Warner and the 99 Rams or Fouts and Air Coryall. Time for a change!

  39. Cobraboy Says:

Hey, Vinnie: It’s been you for 3 years now. Not YOU, but the “them” you.

    LOL!

  41. i like gunslingers Says:

you are who you are, i see excluding a couple on defense, and i’m being generous, a soft lazy, looking for someone else to make the play, overpaid average to below average players, i seen a linebacker pull up and go wide instead of close the distance and go hard on more than one play and i’m being nice not to mention his name, but he did get a big fat sweet new contract, and of course every ones fav sulking and sucking ass again and our 12th pick smh good luck with that one, and finally the mike smith experiment has to be over with

  42. TampaBayAllDay Says:

I agree time for a change

  43. BUCWAD Says:

That cra- today isn’t even as good as a J-V mighty mite little league game, at least the little league has a mercy rule.

  44. View from 132 Says:

I still say 8-8. Only because I watch RedZone and while this was an exceptional beating, there are no truly dominate teams that are immune from wild swings of great and terrible – sometimes drive to drive. So I’m counting on 6 more teams playing mediocre football or otherwise finding a way to lose (ahem, Cleveland today in Oakland).

I really hate our defensive non-scheme, and this much confusion over who to cover leads me to think it’s far too complex, especially for a bunch of rookies. I’ll be glad to see Mike Smith depart, but the Glazers, Dirk and most fans understand that you can’t change an entire defensive scheme mid-season, so this is our defense this year regardless. All you can do is teach it better, practice better, play with more intensity, and run the ball and use some ball control to keep our D off the field.

Lastly, look at Monday Night teams going on the road. Our lack of focus and energy today is not unique.

  45. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

@doc really? are you that stupid? mike Smith is the all time leader in wins for the falcons, and he dirk have been together for a long time So go to bed and shut it

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m all for firing Mike Smith…if someone new can come in and take over. If you intend to promote from within, don’t bother. You’d be keeping everything the same.

    Rex Ryan is out there.

Bad News: OJ Howard injured his knee. MRI later today.

The are bright spots from last night. Last year, accountability from the players did not come until the last game or so. Last night, it was all over the place. Joe mentions JPP talking to the defense, but just before that GMC did the same. And then a few minutes later, Lavante David blew his top.

There was a lot more anger, as opposed to last year.

Now, above, most of the posts are by the trolls feeding into the negativity. Just check the open thread to confirm that. Before things even went bad, they were all negative. So yes, they are kicking Bucs fans while they are down.

And Bucs fans are taking it like wimps, laying on the ground curled in a ball.

For heavens sake, people, if you want the team to toughen up, start with the fans. The twelfth man matters! Show this team how to be tough! Stand up, dust yourselves off, and focus on getting better…as fans and how the team can get better.

Want Smith fired? Fine. I do too. Anyone with half a brain does. Voice it. Insist on it.

But don’t let these scum sucking low life trolls sell you that this is a bad team overall. Don’t accept that this team is a bad team. The defense is horrible, yes, but it is not team-wide.

Guess what? We’re 2-2 going into the bye. Before the season started, that’s what we hoped for. Losing this game was the only way to bench Fitz so Jameis could return after the bye, but this team held itself accountable.
