Still No On Beau; Gerald McCoy Is Injured

September 26th, 2018

Today’s official injury report is out after the Buccaneers practiced indoors in preparation to play the Bears in Chicago on Sunday.

It looks like the Bucs will continue to test their defensive tackle depth, as Beau Allen missed practice all last week and again today with a foot injury.

New to the injury report is six-time Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy. He was limited today and has a biceps injury.

Vita Vea (calf) was limited, as was Demar Dotson (knee). Safeties Jordan Whitehead (shoulder) and Isiah Johnson (ran into a wall shoulder) were full participation. Cornerback Marcus Williams (hamstring) was limited.

  1. Mike Johnson Says:

Looks like I got my Pom-Pom out to early. That Chicago Game is going to be tough..real GD tough. Don’t expect us to score mega points on the Bears. Their Defense is much better than the Steelers. Just sayin…

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

Bye week is perfect timing this year… a running game would be the Bucs DL’s best friend in Chicago

  3. Bucnjim Says:

Hurt his bicep trying to help BIG BEN up! Sorry big guy sorry man! I thought Conte was the only defensive player to get B!tch slapped until I watched McCoy miss the easy sack that would have given the Bucs the ball back.

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Hope Vita is ready and plays this week.

Allen and Unrein may have been good signings on paper – but our “depth” at DT has been seriously tested due to Vea and Unrein being out all season thus far and now Allen out for 2 games (at least) at the start of the season as well.

Don’t mind Gholston spelling guys inside for a few snaps a game – but when he’s your starting nose tackle at 280 lbs and getting extensive playing time inside – that’s not going to bode well for this defense – especially when trying to stop the run.

  5. Bucnjim Says:

Meanwhile the Steelers are face planting Fitzpatrick in the turf. Let’s play nice though and put that pillow down first right Gerald?

  6. unbelievable Says:

Conte definitely had the most embarrassing night, but Johnson is right behind him between the wall and that terrible penalty.

Old man Grimes is a few steps behind them… hoping he looks better this Sunday or else let Ryan smith and the rookies keep playing. They can actually press receivers.

  7. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe any news if Vea debuts this Sunday

  8. Reach87 Says:

    Bucnjim…funny. Keep em coming.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

How does one get beotched like Conte did and ever want to return to a football field again.

    I would need Dr. Phil.

the bye week early this year is a blessing!

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

After watching the Bears game this morning, I am feeling pretty good that we can beat them. Yes, they have a decent DLine…but it has holes. And Short to medium range quick passes are the way to go.

They are very vulnerable to QB scrambles as well.

They may be getting media hype, but they are not as good as advertised. Mack is their best player.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

McCoy will play…this is probably a rest day disguised as an injury.

    Open question:

Are all NFL team fanbases this bad? I love the team but damn, sometimes this fan base makes me sick. I try not to read the comment section but… yeah.

  17. Buchead5588 Says:

They always sound like this never positive it’s never good an it’s always bad

  18. Realbucfan941 Says:

I think just this one. Notice the same names keep coming up. GMC, Jameis little Conte. Aside from that no one here talks about the play of anyone else with any consistency. So yeah, dumb fan base. Agenda pushers etc

  20. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Vita Vea. Worst pick ever. Licht should have to suit up in his place.

  21. Buc believer Says:

Ahh yes the yearly Mccoy “injury” I think the only thing that is truly hurt on him is his feelings for being such a softie. Oh I’m sorry Ben did I tackle you to hard??? Here let me kiss it and make it better. So glad he is still up to his old ways so everyone will see what a pushover this dude really is. He shouldn’t be a football player he should be a kindergarten teacher or an actor.

  22. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Yeah Gerald, was Big Ben just as gracious as you in apologizing after he faked a head injury and flopped onto the grass, netting a 15-yard penalty? Asking for a friend.

  23. Bucnjim Says:

Yes the only constant with Buccaneer losing is one player. Not coaches, assistant coaches, strength coaches, not even GMs. Every single aspect of this Bucs team has changed (several times) except one.
On a positive note I am a HUGE fan of the new Bucs attitude and the fire behind each of them. These young guys come to play extremely hard and that is all any of us can ask for!

  28. Bucnjim Says:

    Buc Believer,
Yes I am more than angry over that play, but I am furious he missed a sack that would have given us the ball back with 2 minutes left. He has missed these game changing plays throughout his career. Then I watch JPP play just three games with us and go wow that is what a game changer looks like.

  29. Godeep66 Says:

Tampa’s defense is where washed up defensive players come to pick up checks. Grimes is the worst example of this practice.

  30. Bob in Valrico Says:

Hope Smith goes with rookie DB’s and Ryan Smith in the backfield. We have to get more aggressive back there . Not against mike Smith, but he has to make
some changes in the backfield. Time to be proactive and get some some more agressive play back there.Grimes may still be injured ,but his play was embarassing for a number 1 corner who had a zero in pass defense. If he doesn’t , then I look for Koetter to tell him what he is doing isn’t working at the Bye like he did in 2016 and that got results. Missing both Uhrein and Vea doesn’t help.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

    DI …answer:

    JoeBucsFan is special.

No not all sites are like this. Our comments section are filled with a cast of characters that are very opinionated. Some of us can be brutal. I always use to say JBF’s not for every Buc fan. Most regs would agree.

I went to Bucs Nation the other day for the first time in about a year. Read the comments and they were well thought out intelligent debates. Not much in-fighting going on at all. JBF’s a different animal.

When I found the site in 2013 my jaw dropped at how fans talked to eachother cause I was used to fighting with fans from other teams on NFL sites and such.

I’ve seen peeps come and go from the comment section only to show up on other sites. It’s just not for everyone. The Joe’s are the ringleaders though. Make no mistake about that. They start most of this stuff in the comments section with how they write. They won’t ever admit to that prolly.

They are very good at what they do!

  32. Buc407 Says:

I’m honesty not worried about McCoy missing some games he’s a good player but for his price tag not worth it. The sack he missed to get the ball back sums up McCoy. Good player not a game changer Curious to see if we put vea there if the dline gets better or suffers

  33. Buc407 Says:

And @ Lakeland It’s to early to say if james was the better pick. But damn we could use a Derwin james right now!!

  34. Buc407 Says:

And it was a very bad look. Apologizing for hitting Big Ben. Wtf?! You got the penalty already Make it worth it! Smh…. my bad Ben my bad Ben!! Wtf are you doing McCoy

  35. Bucnjim Says:

Go deep I am sorry you must have missed last season. Grimes is and has always been a player that Gives 100%. You can argue he may have been rusty but you can’t argue his effort and dedication to this team and D.

  36. DI Says:

    @Buc1987

I agree with how the Joe’s run the site. They definitely stoke the fire with the polarizing views some of the fans have. Generally, I applaud their formula for success. They’ve branded and marketed themselves well to Buc fans (“fans”?) who want to express their sharp opinions about the Bucs.

Yet the toxicity and vitriol amongst some of the commenters is unlike any other. I agree, it’s not for everyone. I’ve been here for about 4 years now and have seen it just get worse and worse. It just sucks when this is likely the best team we’ve had in years and the best offense the team has ever had and yet there is so much anger and hate. It feels like we could be the ’72 Dolphins and still have people bitchin on here. Kills my vibe sometimes.

In the end, I’m to blame. I’m the one who reads the comments. Being a Buc fan in Hawaii, I guess I am just looking for some camaraderie since I am the only Buc fan I know and I am usually the butt of jokes since the Bucs are known for being a laughingstock despite the glory years and the 2002 Super Bowl win. It can be a bit disheartening. Oh well, as a Buc fan, I should be used to disappointment right?

  37. Issaic haggins Says:

Seriously Gruden watched McCoy for 20 min as others have and made strong statements about his fire or lack there of !! At least he not running 5 yards past the qb that appears to Curry’s Job Now !!! Jpp is fighting his ass off but just like Ayers he will get sick of McCoys acting Games !!! As a fan it’s frustrating !!!
The Audience isn’t wrong here folks !!!

Btw Gruden is so nuts he may be desperate enough to give a first for McCoy after his debacle

  38. Buc4life Says:

Doesn’t McCoy hurt or tear his bicep every year??? This is ridiculous! He knows there’s problems, stretch your muscles or do something to prevent this!

  39. BigMacAttack Says:

I hate to say this because they’ve been doing so well, but I begged for them to trade McCoy because he’d be hurt by the 3’rd game. I hate it for him and the team. It’s probably why he couldn’t wrap up BigBen on the final drive when he had him for what should have been a sack. Hopefully it won’t linger but this is his 3’rd bicep problem. Dear Hawaiian Buc, I told you so. Sure hope they can recover soon and bounce back.

  40. Defense Rules Says:

@DI … “I agree with how the Joe’s run the site. They definitely stoke the fire with the polarizing views some of the fans have. Generally, I applaud their formula for success. Excellent observation DI, and BTW used to live in Hawaii and hated to move back to the Mainland (but Uncle Sam insisted). Unfortunately some ‘fans’ just want to vent, Thank God they still have Scapegoat Smitty now that Chris Conte is on IR.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s time activate Vea, ready or not. Time to get out there big boy.

  42. John5 Says:

Where is Vita Vee?????? Where is Ronald Jones????!!!

  44. louis Says:

hey adam from ny, i don’t think Vita was having sex with the chips and dip…he might have been noshin however,,,

  45. Mike in LOL Says:

What are y’all talking about! Everyone is bashing McCoy and one person even said JPP has shown him up big time… huh??? I have seen an equal amount of fire from both of them and they’re honestly the only ones worth a damn on our d line. Curry looked slow as molasses on that fumble when we really needed it.

I’m not saying GMC is the best or anywhere near… but he’s certainly above average, unlike plenty of players on our defense…

And those calling him soft are total buffoons. Have you ever even played football!?!! I did and let me tell you o line and d linemen are THE toughest players by far!!! I guarantee GMC would probably choke half you people out before you could even lift a finger…

You don’t have to act tough to be a good football player… while I’m not against some rough and rowdy attitudes, there is NOTHING wrong with how GMC conducts himself… the man may y’all nice but his hits are anything but…

Wish I could meet up with some of you haters and see how scrawny and weak and soft you guys are… projecting your own insecurities on one of our best and most consistent players… gtfoh…

  46. BUC IT Says:

lets stop being so negative on here…. we beat some really good teams and just barely lost to the steelers. just calm down and enjoy it while we are playing good.

  47. Haw'n Buc Says:

So the standard for GMC is he can’t even show up on the injury report now? Not only is he not allowed to ever miss a game without being called soft, he can’t even be LIMITED in practice? You hate him that much? What a sad, pathetic group of fans you are. I’m literally embarrassed that we cheer for the same team.

  48. Not there yet Says:

I can’t Licht is the issue as much as our sorry coaches. Here they are saying Whitehead has earned the right to start meanwhile you get rid of Keith Tandy for this guy Isaiah Johnson who has no idea how long the field is and has now been beat out by a rookie and basically we wasted a roster spot on him. Makes you wonder how smart these coaches really are

  49. SOEbuc Says:

GMC will play on Sunday. I try to stick up for you Gerald but you get some kind of small or large injury every year. Not saying you’re soft. Love to see one of these hard a$$ haters go slam Big Ben on his a$$. Good player and good person but you can’t play to the potential we pay you so much cash for so you need to take a hike next year. BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT!!! NASTY DT ROUND ONE NEXT YEAR!!! ONE OF THE TOP RG IN THE SECOND!!!

  50. Haw'n Buc Says:

You guys really just don’t understand the position. As a result, it makes you look really stupid. I blame fantasy football, because people of today can’t evaluate a player without stats. DT’s aren’t supposed to get a lot of sacks and/or tackles!!!! Guess how many sacks Aaron Donald has so far this year? Nada. Is he not good at his job? I would try to explain more, but it’s a waste of my time. You think you know more than other coaches, players, and NFL GM’s, so it’s not like anything I write is going to make a difference. But seriously, how full of yourself do you have to be to think you know more than people who do this for a living? I personally would be embarrassed to run my mouth with such stupidity, but apparently you morons have no shame.

  51. Haw'n Buc Says:

“Doesn’t McCoy hurt or tear his bicep every year??? This is ridiculous! He knows there’s problems, stretch your muscles or do something to prevent this!”

    ————

Is this real? Tell me this is a joke. No person can actually be this stupid. Stretch your muscles?!?! Wow.

  52. Lamarcus Says:

Keeping GMC is costing us games. And has been for quite some time. Yes games. He is costing full games. Dude literally is having fun losing.

  53. tnew Says:

Derwin James would look good in a Bucs uniform for sure given our safety issues; however, given the injuries, the Bucs are equally as desperate at the DT position. Team is getting close to having Curry and JPP being forced to play extended time at DT.

  54. adam from ny Says:

    yes louis yesss…haha 🙂

  55. INSPIRED Says:

Guys, it’s always the same 3/4 other teams plants that come into this unique site to show their assess. Just look at the names on the page. Same as always. They do not live this team and it’s a safe bet they don’t love themselves. I’m also willing to bet that one of the other commenters is right on the money when he asked if any of them has even played football. They are probably just as he described. Scrawny, soft, and in most ways unimpressive. I feel like they must be getting paid by some kind of mutual fund that is designed to try to keep us all IN THE BASEMENT! What they are selling is tainted AT BEST and I DO have to wonder if they are “Joe But Fan” plants!?!? 😁 Just Kidding???? GO BUCS!!!!!

  56. INSPIRED Says:

I misspelled something in my little write up at the top of the page. I meant to say that THEY DON’T “LOVE” THIS TEAM LIKE WE DO… 👍 They Don’t.. GO BUCS!!!

  57. adam from ny Says:

    Gerald McConte…think about…

maybe gerald will change his name in honor of his former teammate that got run over by a freight train on monday night…it’s the respectable thing to do after apologizing to big ben…

    Gerald McConte….i kinda like it

  58. Lamarcus Says:

Gerald McConte is perfect and funny Lol

  59. Rod Munch Says:

Not that I’m upset to not see him on the field, but what happened to Ryan Smith? He was literally the worst corner I’ve ever seen play at any level last year, he looked terrible against the Saints, when people praised him for merely being really bad against the Eagles, then he didn’t play at all against the Steelers. So he’s coming off his best game ever (a game in which if Foles wasn’t the QB he probably gives up 3 TDs) and they benched him? Or is he injured? Again, I hate to even ask because I feel like it’s going to remind the team he exists and he’s going to then be put back on the field, but I curious as to why he didn’t play and I didn’t even see anyone mention it (which could be my fault for just missing it).

  60. Rod Munch Says:

Said it for weeks, but the best defense is an offense that scores 40. Licht, go get Bell, give them Ronald Jones and Brate (to create cap space he’d have to be part of it) and you should have the best offense in football in a division where you need to score a ton of points.

At this point the defense is a lost cause, you don’t go into a season with Chris Conte and Ryan Smith penciled in as top contributors and think the defense is going to be any good. So now we’re in season and just as expected the Bucs defense can’t stop the pass, which is exactly what anyone with a brain said would happen. So go get Bell and let the rookie DB’s play and hopefully they improve as the year goes along while the offense simply outscores other teams. Under this scenario perhaps the defense is finally coming together as it’s playoff time and you then have a team that should be able to compete.

Of course Licht won’t do anything except sit there with his thumb planted firmly up his rear end and then removing it only so he can see how it smells.

  61. Anonymous Says:

Grimes was horrendous. Missing tackles. Misjudging balls in the air. Whiffing on AB all night

Conte was just being Conte. That’s what he does. Get trucked.

McCoy missing that sack was a complete game changer.

  62. Defense Rules Says:

INSPIRED, Haw’n Buc, Mike in LOL … Yes JBF is a “unique site” and that’s what makes it fun & worthwhile coming on to. There are some excellent commenters on here who really think through their opinions & explain them very well, giving all of us a lot to think about as we follow OUR Bucs.

But like every site nowadays it has its’ share of “morons” who prove it by writing things like … “Doesn’t McCoy hurt or tear his bicep every year??? This is ridiculous! He knows there’s problems, stretch your muscles or do something to prevent this!” AMAZING; absolutely AMAZING.

  63. Bucsfanman Says:

When we’re winning, it’s crickets. Lose ONE game and the rocks get flipped over. Congrats! The trolls are free again!
    Until we start winning again!
