  1. INSPIRED Says:

I’m aware there are plenty of things I don’t know concerning the entirety of the team and how and why it’s not adding up, BUT IT’S NOT ADDING UP… Koetter, Koetter, Koetter….. Smith? It feels clear that Koetter was calling the plays for at least the first half and boy did it show! And after 3 years with Smith at the helm of our D, why are we ranked worse than ever? I swear It feels like a conspiracy! In the end, Koetter is in charge and will have to be blamed and praised just the same. With that said, not adjusting to the mark “with a quickness” because he is in charge is laid directly at his feet. The fact that he was to stubborn or stuck in shock and awe at the pass rush and didn’t adjust on the fly is on HIM. Right now, little confidence…. GO BUCS!!!

  2. D-Rome Says:

Buccaneers have the worst defense in the NFL and very little evidence to show that it’s going to get better. That Vance McDonald play call is evidence something needs to change, and it’s not Conte.

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Amazing how Monken calls the plays and people praise him when it goes good, but claim Koetter called them when they go bad. So anxious to blame Koetter.

Monken had a bad quarter. It happens. Everything that went wrong was in the 2nd quarter, for almost everyone on the team.

Totally Confident in Koetter. Not so much in Smith, who I was against hiring in the beginning but thought there was a sliver of hope after his first year.

But firing should be saved for the off season. You don’t do it during the season because it will destabilize the whole team. Besides, the defense IS much better. You can blame them not stopping the Steelers last drive all you want, but don’t forget the offense failed in it’s last chance as well. Koetter should never have had to decide whether to punt or not. The defense should not have had to take the field.

But really, only one play could be pointed at that cost us this game.

Johnson’s penalty that cancelled out DJax’s return for a TD. That was a touchdown we lost. Every other thing being blamed was not a touchdown. We’d have still had to find a way to score.

The return would have won the game.

    D-Rome Says
“Buccaneers have the worst defense in the NFL…”

Actually, I just checked. That’s not true. Surprisingly, they are about average in a bunch of areas. We just play against better than average teams.

But…that is vast improvement over last year, and even over the start of this year.

I agree, they have a long way to go. a looooong way. But at least they are moving forward, which is remarkable considering how many young players we have starting now.

  5. Wausa Says:

I voted confident, but I think his infatuation with having Mike Smith as his defensive coordinator is a big mistake.
I also think not immediately naming Jamies Winston the starting QB is also a mistake.

  6. Not there yet Says:

Not sure what game your watching but this defense is horrible and every year people have an excuse for why. Mike smith sucks and Koetter can’t keep his job trying to be loyal to a friend who clearly isn’t good at his job. It’s not the players it’s what they are being asked to do, players are always lost in space and can’t defend any kind of pass to anyone. Dungy got fired for ignoring one side of the ball. It’s going to come down to get we got weapons the offense should be good, you won’t fire smith then follow him out the door. Don’t trust Koetter, I wouldn’t say he was calling plays but that game smelled like a weak 2017 sorry excuse for a game plan. Not built to be down 3 scores to any team and win

  7. D-Rome Says:

    Bonzai,

OK, a bit much on my part but they are giving up the most yards per game in the NFL. Opposing QBs are completing passes at a historic rate (Bucs are the worst). They are ranked 28th in points allowed per game and yards per play. They are giving up the most completions in the NFL. They are 29th in opposing QB rating. The only thing in their favor is their ability to stop the run and they are currently tied at 17th for sacks.

  8. The Buc Realist Says:

The defense is where we thought it would be!!!! We all talked and knew how hard the first 3 games were going to be!!!! How strong the first 3 teams were that the Bucs had to face Back to back to back!!!!!!!!!! What we did not know is how thin the secondary got, and how banged up and thin the d-line is!!!!!! With all that, the Bucs faced the 2nd , 4th and 19th ranked offenses!!!!!!!! The problem is that local media cannot evaluate talent and overestimate what the Bucs have on the field!!!!!!! or it is just an agenda!!!!!!!! This past offseason NFL Jason Licht started to fix the defense!!!!!! and it is a work in progress!!!!!! That high flying offense was not built in 1 offseason, and shame on the local media and so-called fans that it would with the defense!!!!!!!!!!!!! maybe wait and see what the defense actually looks like in the second half of the season!!!!!!!!!

#trust the coaches!!!!!!!!!! Fix the “real” problem, the roster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

Only thing that would shake the confidence I have in Koetter right now is if the defense continues to be this bad, and he keeps Mike Smith around this season.

  10. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

And Realist, FTLOG, cool it with the exclamation points. I am not even going to try to read what you wrote, it’s basically jibberish with all those in there. Can’t imagine how obnoxious you’d be to live with if you talk in real life like you write.

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    little confidence

if dirk can keep the ship afloat when Winston returns and produces some more wins i’ll bump up to confidence….

im not sure what folks are saying about the defense…..as hard as ive been on smitty, its better than last year and in 2016 but we still have some work to do…..

saints put up 40 on us and the falcons….pittsburg put up 30+ on KC and 30 on us…..everyone in the NFL knows N.O and pittsburg are going to score…..and we held philly in check…..

run defense has been good imo….the thing missing from the defense is an interior push and a speed rusher…..GMC shoots the gap too much allowing the QB to slide side to side and JPP’s best move is a bull rush…..vita and spence were suppose to be those missing pieces and well, they’re still missing pieces……

im waiting to see how this team response once Winston comes back…..

start Winston, run some of those RPO’s and bootlegs and catch the bears off guard……

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  12. orlbucfan Says:

Confident. 3-1. Jameis plays Sunday with this Offense. The defense is slowly improving, and the young DBs are only going to get better. I’m still a little wary of Smith though.

  13. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Drops down to confident this week because Mike Smith still has a job.

  14. Architek Says:

Mike Smith seat warmers should be on the highest setting…

  15. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Dirk Koetter should be fired now. His ass has been in the Jackpot and it’s time to get rid of him. Cut Koetter! Fire Licht! Go Bucs!

  16. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Mike Smith’s ass is deep in the jackpot. Bucs need to do what awake Forest did. Wake Forest fired the D Cordinator this week.

  17. Loyaltotheend Says:

Mike Smith is still employed and Dirk is still coaching scared and not playing to his teams strengths means little confidence

  18. Jameis Almighty! Says:

And to Mr. Jason Licht. You sir are the worst GM since Matt Millen. The jackpot isn’t big enough for you. You can’t even be in the Jackpot.

  19. pewterdave Says:

How you can be confident with a head coach that keeps a defensive coordinator in place after never having the defense rank in or near top half in over three years. overall the defense stinks and looks the same year after year. Go sign Eric Reid and fire Smith.

  20. Destinjohnny Says:

Do one of these for the gm

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Zero confidence for a guy who coaches scared and punts the game away.

Additionally we saw in this game Dirk starting to take back his play calling duties. They came out after halftime and started the run up the gut on 1st down for 1.8 yards like they’ve down for all the past two years. Forget the massive success the offense has had – the coaches handbook from 1956 says you punt the ball – and you establish the run – that’s how you coach a game and Dirk will make it known he’s still in charge this week in Chicago.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

    ROD

dirk called plays in that game?

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  23. D the Bucs fan Says:

We started 2-1 last year. And the game on against the patriots we struggled to make adjustments. The makings of a sofT team is you cant run the ball and you can’t play defense.

  24. Talk2da4skin Says:

Little confidence I was at confident for the first time ever but it needs to just stay at little confidence until he grows a set of balls and goes for it on a 4th down. We were the more talented team on Monday but simply got out coached

  25. Rod Munch Says:

813bucboi – Just a guess based on them going to halftime, then coming out running the ball up the gut like for like 1 yard on 1st down about 4 times in a row at one point. That’s what Dirk has done for 2 straight years and something Monken didn’t do in games 1 and 2, well until they were running the clock out. So no, I don’t know, but it’s a very educated guess based on watching the game and knowing the patterns of Dirk. Also Dirk said after the game they have to run more – so that tells me he’s taking back some duties from Monken. Could be wrong and hope I’m wrong since Dirk has zero feel for the game from the sidelines.

  26. Buc believer Says:

I voted little confidence only because of his loyalty to Smitty. Remember Dungy being loyal to Mike Shula until he was basically threatened by the Glazers with being fired if he didn’t get rid of Shula. Time for the Glazers to be the owners and can this turd.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    Confident.

  28. ATrain Says:

    McCoy confidence poll Please

  29. 911bucs Says:

Realist I agree with much of what you said, but for gods sake please please, the dbacks must play 3-5 yards closer to the line of scrimmage. They could have the best talent there and with this defensive scheme it just won’t matter.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

I think Monken has showed more than enough to take over as OC full time and call all the plays, and we know Mike Smith is a complete failure as a DC, but has a very long history of being a successful head coach. So again, as I’ve called for for nearly 2 years now, fix the problem. Get rid of Dirk as the head coach, “promote” Mike Smith to head coach and then hire a real DC. This lets you fix a lot of issues without blowing up the team. Personally I think Dirk did a great job as OC under Lovie, but as I said when Lovie was fired, it was really dumb to take your OC, coming off a very successful season, to rip him away from being the OC and working with Winston to be the HC where he now can not devote time to the offense, which is the only reason he got the job. As Licht said him and Dirk never really had a conversation until Dirk interviewed for the HC job, that tells you a lot. So while I’d have demoted Dirk to OC, I think Monken has showed enough to get rid of that uncomfortable situation and just dump Dirk. Mike Smith is a proven HC and I think he’d do a good job in that role of getting the team prepared, etc, and it allows you to finally have a real DC who is up to date on their X’s and O’s.

  31. Brad Says:

They better win if the play the journeyman back up over the “franchise QB”. Even if they do win, what good can come out of playing the backup? play him a few more games, piss of Winston and his new agent who just had Mack get traded. Beckles is spot on with this one. he’s going to demand a trade. If either the coach or GM had balls, Winston would be playing on Sunday. Fitz better be the next Kurt Warner or these two will be on the chopping block come “black Monday”.
Where will us fans be? Where we always are, searching for a QB….again.
