The Official Bucs-Eagles Wednesday Injury List

September 12th, 2018

Vita Vea watched Saints-Bucs from the sidelines

Big names are the big story on the Buccaneers injury list today. There’s nine Pro Bowl honors between these guys!

Bucs not practicing today included Brent Grimes, Jason Pierre-Paul and DeSean Jackson. Rookie DT Vita Vea wasn’t out there, either. He’s been out since late July.

Of course, Vernon Hargreaves is done for the season. (Story on the home page).

Donovan Smith and Caleb Benenoch were limited in practice.

On the Eagles side of the ball, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, who is coming off shoulder surgery, returned to practice and was limited. QB Carson Wentz (knee), RB Darren Sproles (hamstring) and WR Shelton Gibson (knee) were also limited.

Ugh, Joe sure hopes Jeffery rests another week.

Need JPP and DeSean Sunday get better quick boys

  3. Dano2200 Says:

WTH is with VEA? Is he that soft? Pathetic waste of a first round pick. I like Licht but missing on both Vea and Jones is inexcusable.

  4. Wesley Says:

This team and there injuries are soooooo damn frustrating.

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

Vita Who ?…WTF is wrong with him? Is the local media not capable of printing what is his problem? Or in fear of losing free eats and access ? Whaat? Look, the guy has a calf injury. He’s been out for six weeks. Koetter said right away the team thought it was an Achilles injury, so they feel they got lucky. He’s out. He’s not on IR. What more do you want? Joe has reported on Vea running and working on the stationary bicycle. –Joe

  6. Aaron May Says:

    Did Vea break his calf?

  7. buddy Says:

How’s that drafting of a west coast DLineman (Vea) going? LOLOLOLOL
JPP sure was quiet on sunday what was his stat line?? 0-0-0
Everyone on here thought he was the savior. Shows what you people know.

  8. Wausa Says:

Derwin James sounds better and better every day.

  9. Battmann Says:

Dano2200, so missing a single game and having a training camp injury means the person is a bust for their whole career? I think you could use to zoom out a little bit and hold your judgments for a few more games, and actually quite a bit longer.

“Everyone on here thought he was the savior. Shows what you people know.”

I didn’t see anyone calling JPP the savior. Who did that? The Joes?
JPP is a good football player, who had a good summer. He played Sunday (poorly) and we’ll see if he can go this week. –Joe

“WTH is with VEA? Is he that soft? Pathetic waste of a first round pick. I like Licht but missing on both Vea and Jones is inexcusable.”

The dude got an injury before the season and you call him soft? Get real, man. Stuff happens. He’s not even a starter!

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Most of those are not injuries. They are just getting rest days to keep them fresh.

  13. BringBucsBack Says:

I keep hoping for a Breeland signing?!

JPP needs to be injected with some of that magic cheese sauce that A. Rogers was injected with last Sunday night.

    What IS up with Vea?

Joes, you meant, there “are” nine pro-bowlers…

  14. Bigtruck Says:

Dano really? Vea is a rookie and has so far missed 1 game and suddenly he’s a wasted pick? Really? They drafted the guys so he can hopefully be a contributor for the next 10 years or so. Relax dude. Same with RoJo. That’s the problem with this instant gratification culture. The Bucs won Sunday without either of those guys. Why would the organization rush them back? What if Saquon Barkley was in the same situation and missed the first game? If the giants cut him you’re the same type of “fan” who’d be screaming for the Bucs to claim him.

  15. TampaTown Says:

If Vita Vea made the trip to New Orleans why didn’t Brent Grimes?

  16. LakeLand Says:

Derwin James did have a sack, pass defense and held Travis Kelce to one reception on 6 targets.

    Just sayin

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

BigTruck – I agree with you on Vea and patience. Rojo though….the kid seems like a wasted pick. He was a healthy scratch Sunday, and based on the preseason he wouldn’t have made the final roster if he hadn’t been a 2nd round pick. Pretty sure Rojo was indeed a wasted pick.

  18. Godeep66 Says:

JPP came here to pick up a paycheck. Same with DJax. Why don’t you guys get it?

  19. LakeLand Says:

*Travis Kelce one catch, six yards*

  20. ben Says:

Light has missed on top 2 draft pics this year . its strange how Sapp might know more then Licht about drafting defense with remarks Sapp made of Vea. Fans seem to always give Licht a pass but i have to wonder why?? He has had years to build this team and yet team still has issues on defense.

  21. Back2bucball Says:

Godeep66 , WTF are you talking about? Djax just came here for a paycheck Huh? The dude played his heart out this past Sunday! You just come here on this site to spit garbage out your pricktrap!

    Hahahahaha!
I think he sprained his Tibia.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

    where’s all the mount vita fans?(cough cough @realist)….thought he was a manbeast….man among boys…..mount vita……

did he hurt his calf or gave birth to a calf?…….

this medical staff needs to be addressed…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  24. Buc1987 Says:

    Back2bucball….yup senseless drivel.

  25. SOEbuc Says:

Going into New Orleans: 4 players on injury list.

“This is the healthiest team I’ve seen in a while.”- Dirk Koetter. Not putting any blame on Koetter for it. It’s a very long Siiiiiiiiiigh.

  26. SOEbuc Says:

Koetter’s PC today: “We’re expecting Brent back soon.” I didn’t know Brent’s injury was a calf strain. Bummer.

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Just picked up Godwin in my fantasy league.

  28. Buc4L Says:

There are some hatersssss on here today!!! All you trolls go home!!! Haters always gonna have some Sh** to talk no matter what. WE WON MFers!!!!! Ya the defense could have played better but damn WE WON, we beat one of the top QB & offenses in the NFL!!!

    GOBUCS!!!

  29. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

@ Joe – “JPP is a good football player, who had a good summer. He played Sunday (poorly) and we’ll see if he can go this week. –Joe

Joe my understanding was JPP was hurt in the middle of the first quarter and was limited throughout the game. He was not 100%.

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

Did Derwin James score any points…uh OUR safety scooped a fumble and rolled for six points.

Derwin James would have been a luxury pick at this point. Whitehead shows a great deal of potential and we’ve seen Evans is a player over 17 games now.

People may hate on Conte but he is at minimum a borderline starter and as a backup eventually to Whitehead he’ll be a luxury.

Back to all the Chicken Littles who have already given up on Vea. GMC’s first two years were also injury filled. Since those two years he has averaged over 8 sacks per year…so you guys would be really hacked if Vea was hurt this year and next and then played a half dozen years with 8 sacks a year and as a perienniel pro bowler?

Man some guys cannot see beyond their noses. We NEED DL help..and still do…we are COMPETENT at safety…our #1 draft pick has missed a total of ONE game and more than likely will miss a half dozen. If he plays ten games this year and learns his position he’ll still be well worth it and far more valuable than any safety in the league.

  31. gilhealy Says:

Actually pretty early in the first, Alabama. Guy played thru it. You’re right. Not close to 100%.

  32. Not there yet Says:

The hell does Vita vea injury have to do with being soft? How about being cautious? If you’re scared if the eagles say your scared and stop calling people soft for injuries. Everyone gets hurt and the season is already over if we couldn’t won without him

  33. Sweeptheleg Says:

Dude practiced on day!! ONE DAY.

That’s why people say he’s soft. Got out there playing against men and boom. Got hurt. Dude didn’t last an hour.

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can’t we all just get along?

  35. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe can we get an update on Vea and Desean?

  36. Architek Says:

All these guys play or are injured – nature of the beast.

  37. Chris K Says:

I love all the Donkeys calling Vea soft! Lmao! I love it for the exact reason we haven’t heard from Tmaxipad/Beatch since he predicted the Bucs would lose by 40. These same guys calling Vea soft aren’t fans at all, just love to find a negative and pounce on it until they’re proven wrong. Then poof! They’re gone or just keep saying the same garbage after bad games and disappear after the good ones. Vea is a man beast and it will show in the second half of the season and in his career going forward. Can’t wait until he gets in there and starts clogging up the middle play after play while allowing rushers to cut loose. Me and most fans will be loving it! The trolls will be crying in their beers looking for the next player who’s injured or may be struggling to start the trolling all over again. Stupid is what stupid does….

  38. Bucamania Says:

JPP didn’t come here for a paycheck – he was TRADED. Don’t bet against him.

Does seem like a long time for a calf strain, Vita.

  39. Kord Says:

That guy with one catch for six yards is on a winning team, Derwin James is not. Vea will be playing soon, so will Jones. We beat the saints and will beat the Eagles, what the hell is everyones problem?

  40. Rod Munch Says:

A run stuffing 3-4 DT picked as the top pick when we don’t run a 3-4… the pick has never made any sense to me. So what, he had a nice 40 time for a big guy, but his nice 40 time is qualified by the fact he’s a huge guy, his 40 time for a non-huge guy wasn’t impressive. He had 3.5 sacks in college last year so there’s no reason to think he’s going to suddenly turn into Warren Sapp in the NFL. Again, the pick has never made any sense to me. Yes, build your defense from the defensive line backwards, but you need guys who fit what you do or you change what you do – the Bucs did neither and the guy obviously hasn’t done anything. Doesn’t mean he’s a bust, rookie DT’s normally don’t provide any meaningful production and when a guy is injured, he’s injured, but it’s not a pick that made much sense to me then and still doesn’t today.

  41. Kord Says:

Also people thinking vea is soft is absurd

  42. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m constantly amused when I read of GMC or Vea being soft on this blog.

So guys on a keyboard are “harder” than dudes slugging it out in the trenches of the NFL. Do folks not see how obviously stupid this is?

  43. Capt. Blighe Says:

What about Beckwith how long is he going to be gone

  44. TheDailyAutopsy Says:

    Good, Joe!
    Showed some testosterone.

  45. Jeffbuc Says:

Wow this comments are what I envision that show the view to be like. A bunch of women over reacting to every little thing. Vita had an unfortunate injury and now he is soft. Rojo is a bust because he is a 20 year old kid who is the nfl with things flying at him a million miles an hour. And 2 touchdowns and over 100 yards recieving and wanting to return punts when he doesn’t have to is here for a paycheck. Returning punts as a number two receiver in the nfl is like working saturdays at your job when you don’t have to. We just won our first game on the road in New Orleans against a team that was one fluke play away from being in the nfc championship game the last game they played. And you supposes fans are still bitching. Wow what wonderful life’s you must live. I am on cloud nine still and proud of every buccaneer. We just won and the way I look at it still have are 1st and 2nd round pick to join the mix. So I am excited we won didn’t have to rush are rookies in. They get to do what is best for every rookie sit back watch and learn how to be a professional athlete. You guys act like it is easy for a 20 year old kid who 6 months ago was eating ramen noodles. Going to school and playing football. To have everything together after becoming an instant millionaire and under a microscope. If I was a millionaire at 20 holy cow I would need a while to adjust also.

  46. Buc believer Says:

For the kind of loot Vea is being paid the big pansy needs to be on the field both in practice and game day!

  47. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Derwin James is on a possible super bowl team and would definitely have helped the bucs and will have more sacks in 2018 than vea

  48. Dapostman Says:

@Duthsy, the question remains would you rather long term have Vea and Whitehead or James and some random DL man drafted in the 4th round? Time will tell.

  49. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

dapostman very true but the way you phrased that id take james & 4th round DL, ppl comparing james to a HOFer, but we shall see #bucsluck

  50. Bucsfanman Says:

FSU fan finally crawled out from their rocks. Admittedly, it was so nice not to hear you. I’m surprised you’d show yourself after Samford! There’s always next year Nole fans!
Who does James play for? Exactly! Don’t care.
Vea is our guy. Get over it already!

  51. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Bucsfanman Iam a UF grad therefore a gator fan but Licht is a below average GM that doesnt have a clue in building a team which is why the bucs are in losserville since he has been GM and I am going to say when it is all said and done that james has more sacks in his career than Vea, so basically another wasted 1st rounder by licht

  52. Bucsfanman Says:

Dusthty- I don’t know about “career.” Truthfully, I was surprised by the Vea pick. I thought the kid from Bama the DT would’ve been the better choice, IMO.
I’m not an FSU “hater”, I’m a Virginia Tech Alum so it’s not a hate thing. I didn’t think that James was that good. I saw nothing at FSU when he was there that made me go “wow”.
I see a LOT of people defend this GM. Not me. So far his record is less than spectacular, which is the understatement of the century!

  53. Buccfan37 Says:

FSU getting plastered by VT then squeaking by Furman late is worse than Gatorish. Congrats Taggert springing from USF to Oregon to FSU like a freaking jackrabbit.

  54. Pistol Pete Says:

I am feeling like Vita will be a force in the second half of the season at 100%.
This is an unusual feeling for me, but I am trying to see the glass as half full.

  55. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Is Vea milking the calf? LOL! Couldn’t help it.

Seriously, we are actually in a lot better shape than a lot of teams in the league. I just hope we can overwhelm the Eagles offense with crowd noise so that our defense can take advantage of mistakes. All it took last week was a couple turnovers and a couple of stops to make the difference, this week, it will take more.

Adjust to having money? OK…Playing football should be the easy part.

As far as under a microscope? I call BS. Vita has been a ghost. No one has seen him….
