Your NFC Offensive Player Of The Week; Sixth Time For Fitzpatrick

September 12th, 2018

“Fitz is a badass, Coach.”

Today’s news is no surprise. Ryan Fitzpatrick is your official NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

It’s the sixth of his 120-starts career. The last one was earned in Week 2 of the 2016 season while starting for the Jets.

For the Jameis haters, America’s Quarterback won the award once, for his four-touchdown performance on opening day of the 2016 season.

The only real lesson here is that Fitzpatrick has this kind of game in him. It was no fluke.

As Joe wrote Monday, maybe Fitzpatrick, 21-20 as a starter since kickoff of the 2014 season, is a late-career bloomer who has landed in the ideal offense for himself.

Bucs fans can hope.

He deserves every bit of the credit he’s getting. Koetter needs to stop acting like a pissy little boy about monk calling better plays than he does.

A little tougher sledding this week. There will be a sack or turnover or two. Let’s see how well these guys rally to their QB. Dog fight in the sombrero parking lot. We’ll learn if we’re a playoff contender or not by 5pm Sunday.

Bucs info dept dropped some enlightening stuff that lends credence to what Joe is saying about being a late bloomer. Spanning 2015/16, Fitz won this award three out of six weeks. Some bad football followed, but we all remember the next season (2-1 record without gaudy numbers, and that near-comeback in AZ. Then he goes out and has a day Sunday.

We remember how Tennessee-ready he was in the preseason, but maybe we are starting to see an increase in frequency of his flashes in the pan.

Could there be a better mentor for Jameis than Fitz, who has been on top and in the crapper? There’s a lot to learn from a Harvard dude who has seen it all and plays with a controlled passion for the game that #3 could stand to watch a little more.
