Mark Dominik Calls High-Scoring Bucs Win Vs. Philly

September 13th, 2018

“Mark, how bout this offense I built. You like that?”

The Bucs’ former rockstar general manager, Mark Dominik, doesn’t hide his affection for his former team — a team he keeps very close tabs on out of love and for his work on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Heck, Dominik called the Bucs a 9-7, 10-6 type team last week.

Today on WDAE-AM 620, Dominik said Tampa Bay offensive explosion should draw applause for the guy who replaced him, Jason Licht. Dominik emphasized how Licht has worked to build an explosive offense and that’s what was showcased in New Orleans.

“I think the thing that people don’t realize, the Bucs are sitting there honestly, in my opinion, with three guys that can be No. 1 wide receivers. How many teams can say that?” Dominik said.

Dirk Koetter made a tough and monumental call handing over playcalling to Todd Monken, Dominik noted. “Obviously, Todd has shown in college and in the NFL to be a great playcaller.

On the defensive mess by the Bucs against the Saints, Dominik said tackling better will be a major fix, and he chalked up a lot of what happened to the Saints being the Saints.

The Bucs have their cornerback answer on the roster, Dominik believes, he just doesn’t know whether it will be a rookie or Ryan Smith.

“Which one of you guys is going to take this job and hold on to it? Because I think one of them can,” Dominik said.

A prediction? Yeah, the ex-GM dropped one that will make Bucs fans smile, except the devout Dominik haters: Buccaneers 28, Eagles 24.

Not really sure if dominick is a great barometer for anything

Philly has a top 3 defense but I question their offense. If it is high scoring, I see the bucs winning. Low scoring, I think Philly wins.

  7. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Philly has a top 3 defense but their offense is average at best. If the game this Sunday is high scoring, I see the Bucs winning but if it low scoring, I think Philly wins.

    Here’s my problem.
Great O (Bucs) vs Great D (Eagles)
Average D or worse (Bucs) vs Average O (Eagles)
    Great D usually wins.

Can our D be better than average? It all boils down to our D-Line making it easy for the rooks behind them.

  9. JimmyJack Says:

I’m very curious to see our offensive approach. The sun has been brutal this year and I think we can take advantage if we run a quick offense and not let the Eagles use their rotation. Try to wear down their lineman.

This will be a great test for our O this week because it’s seems the Saints defense may have been severely overrated. Philly is legit.

On defense we go against Nick Foles who not scaring anybody right now so it could be a nice opportunity for the D to get a little more confidence going and start to gel.

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So. I’m watch the Steelers vs Browns game. 11 total sacks in the game????? Holy Toledo!

    Ben threw 3 picks.

I wanna see how the Steelers do in game two. There might be hope!

  11. Tom S. Says:

    Mark Dominik: 28-52
    Jason Licht: 23-42

Gee Joe, I don’t have the foggiest idea why anyone would hate on the “Rockstar” or “Meathead.”

While I don’t doubt that MJ Stewart can be capable in the slot, it was a no good, very bad day for Carlton Davis on Sunday and Ryan Smith has proven to be bad at covering people. So I’m not sure how much one mediocre rookie corner is going to keep opposing DB’s from roasting the defense. Good thing Licht relied on a 36 year old and an injury prone first round bust to fill out the cornerback ranks!

  12. Tom S. Says:

    Opposing QB’s*

  13. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah Bonzai. Pittsburg is in a very bad situation right now. Their offensive line is going downhill and has been exposed quite often over the last two seasons.

They have already got some quiet rumbling for Mason Rudolph. Their locker room has all kinds of issues to deal with.

Their defense is nothing special and they’ll try to play a shootout against us like the Saints did. All we gotta do is not let Ben throw 5 TDs which isn’t that hard anymore.

Toughest first three game schedule in the history of the NFL my asss. Hahahaha

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I predict a 1 score victory, low score game.

I also predict the Bucs Defense will come out balling and catch the Eagles Offense completely off guard.

Our kicker will win the game.

  15. JimmyJack Says:

Yo Joe any word on this DB we picked up, Marcus Williams? Do you think he will be taking some snaps this week?

  16. Loyaltotheend Says:

While Dominik was an awful GM I like his predictions

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

JimmyJack, Bucs have played the Steelers 10 times and lost 8 of them, so the odds will be against us, especially with Fitz or Griffin at the helm.

Couple of things though…the Bucs have never had a good offense when they played the Steelers, and I do not believe the last game was the true defense of our team.

I mentioned Griffin possibly being at the helm because the Eagles have a history of head hunting our QBs.

  18. Loyaltotheend Says:

    History means zilch

    New team
    New year
    New coaches

  19. JimmyJack Says:

I like how Dominick gave some props to Licht. I love how the fans bash the guy for some bad free agents but I never once heard anybody give him some credit for getting us the best backup(at the time he first signed) QB in the league. And there are plenty more successful moves to look at.

Bash the guy all you want but the fact is that he got control over personal and the staff in 2016. Since then we went 9-7, 5-11, now 1-0. If this team lives up to the potential and gets another winning record then Licht has done a heck of a job.

  20. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai…..I’m not quite sure how those 10 games you reffered to have any relevance. I just don’t see how that changes our odds for this game.

Based on week one performances you have to say that the Bucs look a little better than the Steelers did. but it’s like you said it will be interesting to see how they come out and week 2 because they are a very well coached team.

We’ll have to see how we play this week too. Playing the Eagles, even without Wentz, is a good measuring stick.

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

Dominik may not have been the best GM here but I sure do like the guy, always have. He’s smart and knows football. I think he will get another shot at being a GM before too long.

  22. Dewey Selmon Says:

If DJax is out I’d like to see Watson get some experience. I know Martino is above him on the depth chart but when the lights come on some guys shine and some guys bounce between the roster, practice squad and Vero Beach Ramada Inn’s.

  23. Destinjohnny Says:

We actually do have the best rec core in the nfl
Problem is Jason has missed on sooooo many picks.
Nobody bats 1000% but his misses are stacking up

  24. JimmyJack Says:

And also Bonzai, the Eagles may have tryed to take some shots at our QB in the past. But those were some pretty soft offensive lines we had in the past.

I don’t see this line allowing that to happen Fitz. This game could get real nasty if that happens.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Destin…….I’m pretty sure Licht success rate is very high among his peers for drafted players and undrafted players the same.

The biggest problems he’s had is getting his Lineman. O-Line has been up and down but it looks up right now with nice depth and great potential for the future.

On the D-Line he has had major problems but it has little to do with drafting poor players……It has been a lack of drafting them.

The other area of concern has been the secondary but we have tons of youth there and they are going to be tested this year so I think it’s fair to reserve judgement.

Overall I just disagree his has missed on a lot less picks then most GMs. Heck he has every single player from this draft on the roster and even one undrafted player……..It always takes time to judge a draft class remember.

  26. Lord Cornelius Says:

I feel like people are thinking the Saints D sucks a4s and the Eagles are elite; but they weren’t that far apart last year.

Saints D; which started worse than they finished and are younger than the Eagles; gave up 20.4 PPG last year vs the Eagles giving up 18.4.

The Saints D returned more starters than the Eagles D and they added a 1st round DE to that group.

I’m still scared of our defense; but the Saints are no joke in terms of defensive capability/talent based on last year.

    BELIEVE!

  27. AlteredEgo Says:

    Gessh…thanks Dom o the KOD…….

  28. Buc believer Says:

Seriously??? For the life of me I cannot understand why Joe or anyone else gives this guy any NFL credibility. He SUCKED as a GM and he is only slightly better as an analyst. C’mon Joe tighten up and quote someone with some cred

  29. Rod Munch Says:

Licht – you crippled the team by not signing any corners and leaving the depth chart so empty that Ryan Smith will play big minutes. Of course it’s going to be a high scoring game since Foles will probably throw for 400 yards. The question is if the Bucs can keep up or not against a really good defense.

Here’s hoping those rookie corners can do a good job – they are by no means a lost cause based on week 1, but they’re still rookies, and you don’t count on having two rookie corners playing and expect good things to happen.

Hopefully Grimes play, which I’m guessing isn’t going to happen.

  30. Destinjohnny Says:

    Let’s look at this draft
    Hardgraves
    Spence
    Roberto
    Ryan smith

    Grade?
    I say D

  31. Bob in Valrico Says:

    AGee LOrd C .
New Orleans made our offense look bad at times in the last couple of years.
I remember one game where Saints were in the backfield too much, and they disrupted both the running game and passing game.
Last week , they were ambushed by our offensive attack for a change.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Destinjohnny – They had Bond as well in the 6th, who apparently they just cut, which stinks because he had been playing quite well.

But anywho, to be fair, I do believe that draft grade would have to be an D-.

I like VH3, but you’ve gotten one season out of the guy where he looked solid – for a rookie, and the for a rookie part is important. Last year, I don’t know what was going on, but he wasn’t good and then out for the year. Now he’s out again. Hard to give that pick anything but an F, even if health is a big part of that.

Spence – Showed great potential as a rookie, then injured, then last year injured, then this year he’s playing until late into the 4th preseason game. He’s another F.

Roberto – This is an F since they cut him, although I still say Roberto is going to hang around the league for a while and he’ll get a job somewhere and then probably kick for 10 years. Needs to be a dome team, but he’s not done. But for the Bucs, he’s an F.

Ryan Smith – Literally the worst most clueless corner I’ve ever seen in my life at any level. He’s terrible. F-

Benenoch – He’s playing, is so far the best pick from this draft. For where they picked him, I’d say it’s a B.

Bond – He’s been injured, but when he’s played he’s been really good. But he’s been injured and they just cut him. I’d give the pick a C+.

Vitale – How many morons on this board say over and over and over again that this guy was a steal, he’s the next Mike Alstott, blah blah blah. Morons. Just because a guy is white and a FB doesn’t mean he’s Mike Alstott. This was another wasted FB pick by Licht who loves wasting late round picks on guys like this. F- , and I give the – for the dolts in here that compared this bum to Alstott. Dopes.

  33. LakeLand Says:

The 2016 Buc draft is one of the worst drafts in Bucs history. I said it then and I say it now. But it also was Jason Licht first solo draft. Maybe he learned from reaching for players.

  34. denjoe Says:

“Mark, how bout this offense I built. You like that?”

” Jason, your supposed to have a defense too, see you at the buc’s ex Gm’s Christmas party.”

  35. Loyaltotheend Says:

Destinjohnny- it looks like a very Mark Dominik like draft

  36. Horse Liver Says:

Why pay any attention to anything the worst GM in franchise history would have to say? If he said that it will end up 10-6 Eagles.

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mark Domiick…..yes….that’s all I have to say.

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lamarcus D Jax is concussed and will be out this week at a minimum.

  39. webster Says:

peyton barber was also in ’16

  40. joestang Says:

Not only is Licht a bad a drafting he also sucks at free agency. He has made more bad pics than good. I would trade all of them for 1 solid starter.

  41. RickinFtMyers Says:

Bottom line is the injury bug has bitten the secondary with Brent Grimes out for the foreseeable future. As you all know, groins are the bane of football injuries because although they will heal during a 17-week season they take a long time to heal but unlike an ACL there is no predictable time line for a return from a groin injury. The offense has to roll until the rookie CBs get some game experience and learn the lessons imparted by being thrown into the fire and the defensive linemen get the measure of one another in game action and figure out how to act as one. It looks like our rookie CBs have the talent to get the job done, but they need the game experience and hey they won’t be facing Drew Brees every week while they get their OJT. The defensive line showed it can do half the job, stopping the run, against New Orleans and like Gerald McCoy said they need to get the feel of how they all play.

  42. brian nice Says:

Why are people in here busting on rookie cb’s when mike Smith literally backs them up 10-15 yards… watched the whole game, before the ball was snapped on NO side(90% of the time) me saying out loud “wtf is there a 10+ yard cushion on MT” = every play MT open.. the coverage call was beyond pathetic.. thankfully our defense had a couple drives in our favor to win. MIKE SMITH please change your scheme.
