Line Of The Week

September 28th, 2018

Mic drop.

Bucs safety Chris Conte may be out, but he’s still heard throughout the NFL.

While it’s reasonable to expect Conte played his last game with the Bucs as a result of a knee injury in Monday night’s loss to the Steelers (Conte is in the final year of his contract), Conte may have a future career as a comedic writer.

The last Bucs play America will likely remember from Conte is the now famous thrown-outta-the-club stiff-arm Conte took from Steelers tight end Vance McDonald.

On national television no less.

Conte was thrown to the ground like a child, allowing a 70-yard touchdown.

Placed on injured reserve this week, Conte, not a favorite among Bucs fans, kept his chin up delivering a great blast last night on Twitter just before kickoff of the Vikings-Rams game.

Props to Conte for keeping a good frame of mind and having a cool sense of humor about things.

Even NFL Network on its postgame show gave Conte props.

Well done.

Most Conte haters wish they had his money and women.

  2. Darin Says:

    Easy
Exactly and most of them would have gotten thrown further.

  3. Dave5928 Says:

Conte showed a lot of character and sense of humor with this tweet. Who would have blamed him if he had just disappeared? Instead, he’s laughing at himself and sharing the joke with the world. Best of wishes to Chris in his recovery.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

Easy Denman….that HAS to be it. It’s not that he sucks.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Conte’s stiff arm treatment was GMC’s fault……

  6. Dapostman Says:

Remember kids if you are a 205 lb safety and a fast 260 lb tight end is moving towards you hit him low not high. If you don’t you may get trucked on National TV.

  7. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Glad he can laugh and make a good comeback, i think that play was a blown coverage and not 100% contes fault except obv part, he could have went low or shoved him out of bounds but oh well

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Good for Conte to keep a sense of humor about it.
It’s a shame because had he not been “thrown out”, Earl Thomas would’ve been the “Stiff-arm Poster Boy” this week.

  9. D-Rome Says:

It’s too bad Chris Conte’s lasting memory as a Buc is that play. People will talk about that play and embarrassing moment for years, but no one will talk about the play call that left Vance McDonald WIDE OPEN for a first down on 3rd and 10.

  10. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

Honestly, Conte deserved to get his a$$ thrown out of the club for being an idiot and going high on a guy who has 20-30lbs on Conte and all the force of momentum on that play….

U gotta go low there, DUMBA$$

    C’MON MAN!!!

  11. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

Honestly, Conte deserved to get his a*$ thrown out of the club for being an idiot and going high on a guy who has 20-30lbs on Conte and all the force of momentum on that play….

U gotta go low there, DUMBA*$

    C’MON MAN!!!

  12. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

Stupid stupid Conte on that play made our whole team look stupid.

HOW CAN YOU NOT BE SMART ENOUGH TO GO LOW THERE, CONTE???

    I hope he reads this…

  13. Architek Says:

Why are we talking about an average player at best??

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

I got Chris Conte coming back to the Bucs and ballin his A.. off. What does not kill you makes you stronger. Now sit back and watch what I’m tellin you. I’m over chopping up Conte. Everybody time comes in this life where they either look bad or play the fool. There is no..exception to this rule. His just happenned before a national audience. Yours and mine usually happenn within the family or at work.

  15. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

Hope he never plays for the bucs again sorry

  16. Ryan McGregor Says:

    Damn Joe,

I thought the pod was going to be up before noon…. only one hour left!

  17. charles Stevens Says:

    RE;Eric with clean athletics,
Conte had the knee injury prior to the game.Im sure he would have gone low had his pcl not been torn.he couldnt break down without pushing on the knee.

  18. mike Says:

Conte takes a ton of crap, but he’s a good player. Most guys wouldn’t of even suited up. Missed played mcDonald and had some other misses but good player.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    nice paid vacation…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  20. LakeLand Says:

Chris Peterson was Adrian Peterson personally whipping boy, while he was with the Bears.

And this bum actually started 47 games for the Bucs

And they have been the NFL worst pass defense during his time in Tampa

  21. LakeLand Says:

Sorry Chris Conte, not Chris Peterson

  22. Reality_43 Says:

I think he us a nice enough guy but a horrible NFL safety. Maybe years ago, but in a pass happy league he sucks.
I’m glad he has money and women because he won’t play in the NFL again.

If he does, hopefully for a different team

  23. PSLBob Says:

Respect the man for keeping his chin up and maintaining a sense of humor. Hope his career is not over!

  24. D-Rome Says:

    Damn Joe,

I thought the pod was going to be up before noon…. only one hour left!

Podcasting can be time consuming. It’s a lot more than pressing record, flapping your gums for an hour, and then saving it.

  25. BucEmUp Says:

I still don’t understand why the hell he thought he could go toe-to-toe with that guy should have wrapped his legs up

  26. Tc Says:

He should of jumped on the guys back or grabbed a leg and made him drag him 75 yards, lol.

  27. Gene Deckerhoff is my hero Says:

Conte Haters don’t hate the dude as a person. It’s not his fault he’s the worst safety in the league. He tries hard, just isn’t very good. On the other hand, it’s kind of easy to not like Koetter or Licht after seeing how they behave and hurt his ball club. For Koetter, it’s the “do your homework” quote when asked who is calling plays. He should’ve tipped his cap to Monken. With Licht, you could see how he acted childishly during hard knocks. A GM should never act like that, especially with a camera in his face. Like I’ve said multiple times. Fire Licht, Cut Koetter, and Drop the Mike. Go Bucs!

  28. JimmyJack Says:

See Gene you take it too far when you say Conte is the worst safety in the league. Statements like those are why Conte has defenders, like me.

Now I know what you are thinking when you read that comment that I’m the idiot because I said Conte was not the worst safety in the league…….allow me to explain……..For years you guys have been saying about Conte while other safety’s have come and gone. Guys getting pulled from the lineups never to see the field again, draft busts, guys that just don’t work hard. Conte has outlived probably hunderds of safety’s in the league so all the while you guys keep saying he’s the worst and he prooves you wrong every year and y’all just continue saying it.

  29. Gene Deckerhoff is my hero Says:

Jimmy Jack. I must admit it’s a bit igonarant of me to say he was the worst. Since I didn’t do my research tell who is worse than him.

  30. K_Bassuka Says:

Gene Deckerhoff. “Chris Conte the worst safety in the league” got are out of your mind, or way too nice, he’s one of the worse safeties in the history of the NFL. He must be a very smart when it comes to film study and practice, he just completely sucks during game days.

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

A quick reference of 2017’s statistics shows that Conte was 83rd in tackles overall. That’s ALL positions.
“Worst safety”?! That’s called drinking the Hater-ade! Besides, how do you quantify that statement? Tackles? INTs?
    Just putting it out there.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Really dude, you think how good a player is, is based off the number of tackles? LOL! Well guess what, Ryan Smith also has a high number of tackles for a DB, why is that? Well it’s because he stinks in coverage, the guy he’s covering gets open and catches the ball, now he gets to use that great speed to run them down from behind for the tackle.

But hey, he got a tackle on the play so that means he’s really good.

How many tackles was Deion Sanders getting a season? Oh, like around 30. Wow, he must have been terrible.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

Rod- I said for reference. Dude, relax! Lets try a different perspective: The bucs brought in the safety from Dallas, and DJ Swearinger, and TJ Ward, correct? All of whom we thought were better than Conte, right?
So who weathered all that “upgrading” only to be opening day starter year after year?!
So, tell me again in your infinite, professional wisdom how Conte is the “worst”safety in the NFL?!

Deion Sanders?! Dude, I’m a long time buc fan and football fan, don’t insult me like that! Quantify your statement if you’re going to debate.
No, tackling is not a good measure! See Barrett Ruud!!!

  34. Bucsfanman Says:

BTW, if your safety is making that many “meaningless” tackles , that means your entire defense stinks! Yea, LBs, DBs, and d-line suck. Otherwise, we wouldn’t need him to make those tackles now would we?!

  35. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

They need to bring in a karate expert and teach them how to block and grab. Every defensive player should already know a stiff arm is coming when they tackle so block that joint and go in under for the tackle! If Conte had grabbed that dudes arm he could have yanked it out of socket and probably cause a fumble.

  36. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

DJ Swearinger is playing pretty good for the Foreskins so don’t know why our defensive coaches couldn’t figure out how to get his talent out of him? Maybe because they’re “offensive” coaches and no one wants to listen to them!

  37. BillM Says:

I think Conte went high because he got there a little late probably because of his bad knee. Conte plays the up close safety and that also gave him a poor angle to go low. Somebody let the dude run free down the side line. Where was the right side line backer on that play? Safeties often look bad trying to cover somebody else’s mistake. Wish I had kept the recording. Also a few dbs have bounced off our big tight end too. The guy went out and played with a knee injury. Most of you bitch ass Conte haters struggle to get to the fridge for another beer. I give the guy a break. He might not be the best but he always gave all he had.

  38. Polkbucs Says:

Lol half of the idiots in this comment section bash Gerald for being “ soft “ but praise this spoon for keeping a good sense of humor. This guy CAN NOT play the game of football. Its been noted since his Chicago days what a bum

  39. BringBucsBack Says:

DavidBig, I have often wondered why all teams don’t have martial arts instructors to teach them some grappling and defensive technique’s, for using their hands more effectively. Great point!
