Life Without Jameis?

September 19th, 2018

“Obituary.”

These are sad times for The Franchise.

As he sits out his final game of his three-game sentence, there may not be a job to come back to for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

His backup, Ryan Fitzpatrick, has thrived like few quarterbacks have in this new-fangled offense piloted by offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

It’s logical to assume the Bucs don’t want to fix what’s not broken (for now). And Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today is of the mind this may be the beginning of the end of Jameis with the Bucs.

Not only is it time to write the obituary on Winston’s (suspended) chances of reclaiming his grip on the job as starter, but it might be time to freshly consider the potential of his end in Tampa, too. Ryan Fitzpatrick has seized control of the offense, throwing for 819 yards, eight touchdowns and only one interception in two games. The Bucs picked up Winston’s fifth-year option for 2019, good for $20.9 million, but it’s guaranteed only for injury. So Tampa Bay can cut Winston at the end of this season and not owe him a dime. More importantly, the Bucs have taken down the Saints (11-5 last season), and the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles (13-3) in the first two weeks for sole possession of first in the NFC South.

Well, everybody and their brother has stated it is just a matter of time before Fitz becomes Fitz. Joe does know for the people that holler and stomp claiming Jameis cannot win games (as if 2016 was just some kind of drunken night at Hooters), Fitz is just about 10 years older than Jameis and he and Jameis have the same number of winning seasons in the NFL.

That would be one.

Too much doom & gloom. Winston will be fine. He’ll pay because he has no other choice and learn from it. This happened 2 1/2 years ago. Pay n move on. Become a better person and a better player. That’s want fans and management want to see.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

I would tell those folks that think it wont last much longer to check their history books……a similar situation has happened before…..

when trent green went down with the rams, the media said they’re toast….stick a folk in em……dick vermill said the team would rally around kurt warner and they did…..media said, kurt couldn’t keep this up all season but he did….all the way to a SB win…..

    it can happen…it will happen….

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  3. Trench War Says:

I know what Joe this is. While reading it I could hear his voice. lol

  4. Robert Says:

He’s still the future if he finds humility

  5. mike Says:

this guy is crazy! trying to get readers. As soon as fitz has not so good 1/2 or game Jameis will be back in.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

I think the world would be a better place if 99% of the national media were to all drive into bridge embankments doing about 85mph. Yes, it would really mess up your commute for a few days, but you have to think long term.

  7. buc15 Says:

Fitz is not the future, Winston is. I guess the bandwagon fans also jump on QB bandwagons as well.

  8. AlteredEgo Says:

Time will tell… in the meantime.. win on Sunday with what works….LOL the GBoyz are sweating perpetual bullets… Back to the Jameis saga… more questions than answers.. repeat…rinse…repeat… rinses .., where the ball stops nobody knows

  9. patrickbucs Says:

    good post Dapostman

  10. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Squirrel!
    Fickle fans and media…
It is only 2 weeks…the best 2 weeks in Fitz long career.
Fitz is playing great but come on, tight ends are catching 15 yard balls and taking them 75 yards to the house.
This whole team is balling, not just Fitz. Jameis is fully capable of doing the same things.
Fitz is killing it NOW. Jameis is the FUTURE.

Why do I feel like we are going to screw up the best problem we have ever had? Jameis is my favorite player and I’m a huge supporter but you don’t take a guy out that’s riding a high like Fitzy is.
I just think you play him until he loses or starts playing like ish.

Jameis still has an extremely high ceiling and an average floor. Basically Jameis’ worst case scenario is a Fitz like career…
Lets ride Fitz like a rental- til the wheels fall off.
Then we bring out the Mack truck and run over this league!!
    Go BUCS!!

  11. TBB2017 Says:

impressed with fitz but why is everyone sounding like he’s gonna make us go 19-0 (with a superbowl win)? seriously lots of football left.

  12. Curse of Gruden Says:

Winston is still the future, and the future could easily start by the end of this season.

  13. Dooshlarue Says:

    Dear webster…….
It ain’t looking too good for your hero.

  14. doolnutts Says:

I LOVEEEE Fitzmagic right now… BUT this is getting out of hand… We are in the perfect situation. Winston’s backup is playing lights out. If coaches decide to ride the hot hand so what… It is still Winston’s team in my opinion. He is just 24 years old and already under contract for next season. I really can’t see the bucs offering major money for Fitz unless a crazy playoff run/super bowl but at that rate would any of us care?

  15. Mike Says:

All of the drama and media coverage flip flops makes me sick- I just want to watch football- this feels like a dysfunctional family I just want to get away from- same with politics- we live in a sick sick country-

What happened to good old fashioned simple football games and to civility?

I think I’m going to stop reading and only watch game days- on mute

  16. Wausa Says:

Even when the Bucs win the media can’t let us fans be happy.

It’s a dumb debate. Reasonable people know Jamies will be the Bucs long term QB.

  17. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Oh, ho, ho
    Fitzmagic, you know
    Never believe, it’s not so
    Fitzmagic, you know
    Never believe, it’s not so

  18. aceinthehole Says:

Right BucBoi, the same thing also happened when Drew Bledsoe got hurt and Tom Brady stepped in. The difference in both cases is that Warner and Brady are HALL OF FAMERS. Fitzpatrick is NOT. Period. There has never been a QB who transformed into a HOF player after 14 years in the league. Enjoy the Fitzmagic but stop it with the Jameis is gone talk. James will be the QB again this season, and he will put up good numbers in this offense. Koetter knows it. Monken knows it. Fitz knows it.

  19. Waterboy Says:

Winston still has value to quite a few teams in the league if the Bucs don’t want to re-sign him. They should at the very least trade him for draft picks if they choose not to move forward with him at QB.

  20. Curse of Gruden Says:

Winston looked way too good at the end of last year and during preseason to not give him another opportunity. Reyes is writing out of his azz.

  21. Slugglife Says:

Jameis ain’t going nowhere. Another media fabrication to get clicks. Jameis is still our guy, we just need to ride this wave as long as it lasts.

Jameis knows this as well as anybody. It’s about more than just one guy. The sports media should STFU. They’d much rather we be 0-2 anyway.

  22. The Real Malloy Says:

Maybe the Glazers (and Dirk Koetter/Jason Licht) want nothing to do with this stain on the franchise. Has anyone thought of that?

If they can win this year with Fitz, surely they can draft another QB to learn from Fitz for a year or two. The TEAM is playing lights out with a journeyman at QB and Jameis has done nothing but makes The Glazers, Koetter, and Licht look like fools. Perhaps we’re built to win now and the powers that be aren’t worried about “the future” at QB. We have one that can win now.

  23. D-Rome Says:

The Bucs have a problem. Right now it’s a good problem, but it’s still a problem. Over 90% of the fan base expected and 0-3 or 1-2 start, which means most of us expected Jameis to start against the Bears or most certainly against the Browns. The Bucs defying expectations have changed all of this.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is not the future. However, if Fitz keeps playing well and the Bucs are playing winning football you can’t sit him.

If you don’t sit Fitz because they are winning the organization is, in essence, telling Jameis they don’t trust him to win football games. I don’t think the organization can come back from that next year especially when Jameis has been “The Man” at every level.

If the Bucs sit Fitz because they need to know what they really have in Jameis, the organization risks having a divided locker room. We all heard what DeSean Jackson said. He’s not the only guy that feels that way.

From Dirk Koetter’s perspective, and Jason Licht, the Bucs have to win now.

It’s a good problem to have. I don’t care who is the QB. I just want to see the team win. I think this idea that some have that sitting Jameis will be good for him is dumb. He’s not going to be this ultimate team player if the Bucs ride with Fitzpatrick for the rest of the year. Fitz will probably come back down to earth and Jameis will likely start at some point. If that doesn’t happen and the Bucs are a legit playoff contender, then making a QB switch is dumb.

The Bucs risk losing two QB’s for next season. One because the contract ended and the other because he may not want to be here. Again, it’s a good problem to have as long as they keep winning.

  24. Slugglife Says:

    Wausa-

You’re damn right. These know it all eggheads always want there to be controversy. And they’ll ask second string guys who they think should be starting just to sow discord. Every answer the media asks about our starting QB should be “Next question. No comment.”

  25. Iamabuc Says:

And I’m here really pumped up, playing Christopher Cross’s “All right”. Check the lirycs…it’s giving me goose bumps!…https://youtu.be/1GVfa-X5SFc

  26. Conte Piscatelli Says:

One scenario that might lead to Winston no longer being a Buc. What if Fitz hold down the job the majority of the season, the “hot hand” thing, and this off-season management decides to use Winston’s off field troubles as a reason to low-ball his next contact, seems like a reasonable possibility whether Winston plays this year or not. If Winston refuses a very team friendly deal this off-season I could realistically see the Bucs shopping him before the draft.

  27. Reach87 Says:

If you actually watched Winston in Pre season you would see that he was wicked sharp. Just because someone thinks he should be cut or traded doesn’t make it so and you’re foolish to jump on that bandwagon. Name one of these pundits who really follows the Bucs, know the personnel, and know anything of substance about the team? Trust Joe, Ira, Barber, and maybe one or two others. The rest are talking poppycock, IMO. Go Bucs!

  28. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Has anyone considered shopping Fitz while he is still a hot commodity and before his inevitable decline?

I’ve heard the Jameis trade talk which is crazy if you aren’t getting multiple ones and I don’t know if anyone is crazy enough to do that.

But…if someone is crazy enough to trade a 1st rounder for Mr. Glass Sam Bradford, then maybe Fitzmagic can score us a 1st rounder.

    Just sayin, sell high.
    Go BUCS!!

  29. James Walker Says:

If Winston were cut he would be on another team before he left the building.

  30. Dooshlarue Says:

WFLA news just did a poll.
Fans voted on who should start against Chicago.

    95% want Fitzpatrick
    5% want the Soiled Messiah

    Ouchie JW nut huggers!

  31. Fartman Says:

Jameis wasn’t the catylist of the 9-7 season. It was the defense. I’m not as concerned so much of the history of it. There are too many variables. The teams they were playing on and so forth. I am hoping that this crash that everyone is expecting doesn’t happen. Again, Fitz played on a lot of bad teams and never had talent around him like this. Plus, he may be a late bloomer. Stranger things have happened. No one has a crystal ball, but it would be about the coolest thing ever if that were to be the case.

  32. Gambelero Says:

The same lawyer went after him at FSU. Of the $950k settlement (with the university over title 9, not with Jameis), Kinsman only got $250k. The lawyers took almost 75%.

I thought the statute of limitations had run out for a civil suit. Maybe one of the legal experts could explain it. Is it in in a different jurisdiction (federal versus state) or does “sexual assault” have a different standard than “sexual harassment.”

  33. James Walker Says:

Scratch that, Winston would be on another team before he left Jason Licht’s office. It would be dummer than Gruden trading Khalil Mack.

  34. miken Says:

If true and I think JW is our qb oft he future but if we moved on, they are stupid for not drafting Rosen and letting Fitz be a 1 year bridge.

  35. Jim Says:

Please stop saying “Fitz is not the future”. No one is saying he is, so just stop it.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“thrived like few quarterbacks have in this new-fangled offense piloted by offensive coordinator Todd Monken”

Fitz is the ONLY QB to play it. And, btw, it is not Monken’s offense. It is Koetters. Monken is calling the plays.

If the Bucs get rid of Jameis, we’re screwed. Fitz won’t last and getting hte first pick is next to impossible with this team in order to replace him. And sorry, but there is no vet out there good enough to replace Winston.

  37. Bucwheat Says:

You have to be a complete moron if you think this team is going to give up on Winston. Fitz has come in and done his job, better than expected but this is not his team. Obviously they will ride the hot hand but you better believe Jameis will have his chance in the next couple of weeks and everyone will forget about this. Except for the anti jameis club with their torches and pitchforks, but they come from a long line of terrible Tampa fans who have nothing better to do but complain.

  38. Dooshlarue Says:

No Buckwheat, I think this is Fitzpatrick’s team.
2 more strong performances and it’s definitely his team.

    People like winners, not bullshippers.

  39. Godeep66 Says:

Drip, drip you melting snowflakes. This reporter said exactly what I have been saying. Ding Dong the witch is dead the witch is 💀. Let’s go Bucs!!!!!!!

    We need Fitz not Ditz

Put me on your payroll Joe. LOL

  40. Wausa Says:

    Slugglife:

    Thanks!

I should add some of the Bucs own fans perpetuate the idiotic idea to get rid of Jamies. If the Bucs did that it would rival the decision as the worst in franchise history…. which in my opinion was trading future HOF QB Steve Young to the 49ers for a 2nd round pick.

The same shortsighted fans and media would be roasting the franchise for not having a solution at QB with all the great talent on the team.

  41. Hodad Says:

You don’t throw the baby out with the bath water, even if the baby sh#t the tub! Winston isn’t going anywhere.

  42. gilhealy Says:

Doosh, I’m sure Jameis is fine with it as well. Nut huggers maybe not, but sports minded individuals are part of that 95%. You make it sound like it’s anti Jameis. I see it as pro Bucs.

  43. TampaTown Says:

Jameis has been punished and paid the price for what he did. Now it’s time to stop piling on. He has done nothing but good work in the community and in his personal life since the incident. He’s a young kid and he will learn from his mistakes like we all did. He deserves a last chance. He’s not going anywhere.

  44. Conte Piscatelli Says:

At the end of the day Winston’s fate is not in the hands of Koetter, or Licht. The Glazers are the only opinions that matter. If the Bucs part ways with Winston it won’t be about his play or potential, it will be because the Glazers don’t feel comfortable putting his face on the side of their stadium.

  45. Dewey Selmon Says:

A majority of you sound like you believe this guy. How would some schmuck from the USA today know or have more inside information that Joe(s)?

  46. Destinjohnny Says:

    Another week another jameis lawsuit
I like the guy but, man when does it end ?
Also, am I crazy to think this is the first and only time this has happened?
    Just asking.

  47. Trench War Says:

    gilhealy

“You make it sound like it’s anti Jameis. I see it as pro Bucs.”
    ______________________

great statement, I don’t see it as most fans hating on Jameis, (although there are some) but rather rooting for Fitz. If Fitz falls apart or gets hurt then we turn to Jameis, and I think the majority of fans would be ok with that as well.

  48. feelthepewterpower Says:

The media wants to get rid of a quarterback with elite potential. This is the same media who stated we’d be 0-2 at this point. Deep breaths, Everyone.

  49. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Gralopalo should have replaced Brady… He won games too…

    ShakingMyMFingStick

  50. Walter Seidel Says:

Joe doesn’t like Fitz, but he loves the turnover machine-crableg stealin’, FHITP hollerin, two-time sexual assaulter, “girls sit down”, Winston. Fitz is putting up incredible numbers, and WINS against GOOD teams….Joe, you should be Fitz’s FAN NUMERO UNO….but you’re not. Shameful. Winston supporters here just cannot accept that a substantial portion of Tampa Bay football fans want to just BE DONE with this turd. Now’s the chance.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

On a different subject, one that actually matters a lot more than some US Today slob, is Vita Vea a real person or fake news? I’ve never actually seen him on the field or in practice or anything – does he exist or is the press just pulling a fast one?

  52. Walter Seidel Says:

And now with the Uber driver’s civil lawsuit, Winston will stay in the news………..once again, for all the wrong reasons. And we Bucs’ fans will have to endure it. Again. We have to eat the crapola we get from fans of other teams, because Winston is simply indefensible. You can try, but they’ll laugh.

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Easily solved. Winston pays her the 75k without going to court (after the 20th so she cannot refile; since she likes to change her mind) and then comes back and wins.

    No more bad news.

  54. Arrie Parker Says:

This is how much the national media knows: This morning Chris Carter remarked on how well Dirk Keuttters playing calling has been.

  55. DaPostman Says:

Walter is a snowflake. Other teams fans are giving Walter a hard time about Winston. Poor Walter. Please help Walter. If you hear or read a non Buc fan Give Walter a hard time please step in. Do not let Walter be bulitin board bullied! Walter thanks you for your support, I assume.

  56. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Whatever happened to going out on top… Fitzmagic KNOWS WHEN TO HOLD THEM AND KNOWS WHEN TO FOLD THEM!!!!

IF and thats a big Capital “I” Capital “F”. JW Sucks when he comes back at halftime against DA BEARS…. Than you let your backup QB Come in.after Halftime week 6. If JW continues to suck…

Let Fitz go out as the Best 3 game Backup the league has ever seen…

Dont let him become the goat in the case of… The Bucs screwed the pouch again at QB… Ala Steve Young Doug Williams… Hell even BO Freaking Jackson!!!

Backup QBs are BACKUPS FOR A REASON…

Thank Jesus that we have a good one!!!

If Jameis was a good decision maker…..this would have never been a story today…guy just doesn’t get the odds…should have signed “a” deal months ago…say did he fire his agent ?…this story is not getting better and the introduction and early chapters are not flattering nor a good reflection on the franchise …

  60. Mike Says:

Jameis will end up in Cincinnati- write it down-
    Where the owner doesn’t give a s**t

He will have fast the young version of DJax who broke the combine record
He will have Mixon who punched that girl in the jaw

    He’ll probably thrive

Just trade him there now so I don’t have to listen to this garbage any longer

Excited to get stuck w the crap version of fitz and a disgruntled version of Diva DJax- out for himself

Klueless koetter- most annoying coach of all time- can’t answer a media question

Clean house again- sell the team

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. Polkcountybuc Says:

How many teams in the NFL would do whatever to have jameis as there qb?? The answer is why he should be kept!!!

  69. JimmyJack Says:

If they move on from Winston they are running the team poorly. It just basically means they went into the offseason with no plan. They easily could have drafted their future QB.

They didn’t draft anybody and nothing has changed since the draft. Absolutely nothing. If they were going to move on from Winston they would have already made their move.

The only scenario that makes any sense is if Dirk gets the axe.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Jim good point. Joe what kind of Buc fan are you to call these sad times? Ban me if you want but you can be a real idiot sometimes.

  71. Tc Says:

Someone sounds like they just want the money (lawyers). People have done a lot worse and have not suffered any consequences. He Is a 24 year old that has served his time with one more game to go.

  72. Mcruzer Says:

Man, I suffered through the Young, Testaverde, Dilfer, King, Freeman and a host of other bad QBs that I thought would save us. Then Jameis comes along ans starts throwing for 4k yards a season and lots of INT’s and I kept going back and forth on whether we had a true franchise QB. I settled on “Yes”. Then, the rules started changing that favored offense and freaking half of the 1st round QB’s now look like superstars without the INT’s. I have now changed my opinion. Let Fitzpatrick play this year amd then draft a QB nexy year or the following. These new rules really separate superstars from gunslingers. I can take it.

  73. jmarkbuc Says:

    JJ

They didn’t draft anybody and nothing has changed since the draft. Absolutely nothing. If they were going to move on from Winston they would have already made their move.

Unless JW plays this year, plays well, doesn’t get hurt…

Then he MIGHT be decent trade bait. Still doesn’t solve our long term QB situation.

  74. gotbbucs Says:

Everybody loves having the class clown around, and then when he finally gets sent to the principles office nobody really misses having him around.

This should be a massive eye opener for the organization. Everybody on here saying “they need to put Winston back in there to find out what they really have”, nobody wants to admit that without Winston playing they finally see what the rest of the roster truly has.

This isn’t about Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick

  75. gotbbucs Says:

This isn’t about Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick, it’s about the other 53 guys that are currently on the roster too.

  76. Mcruzer Says:

Oh and Mike, if they sell the team I am a firm believer in this: You are a fan of the team where you grow up (TB for me). If the team is sold and moves to another city, you immediately become a fan of the team that is closest to you and in my cae that’s the Redskins. So please shut the F&@k up.

  77. JimmyJack Says:

Jmark I just won’t be able to get over the fact that we passed on all those QBs if they wind up trading Winston.

That would basically tell me that they went into the season with no future plan at QB. I except the orginazation to be run a lot better then to have no future plan at QB.

But I think they did have a plan and since they didn’t draft somebody else Winston is the plan. They got my support…..That being said he will have to take a backseat for Fitzmagic.

  78. DRFEELGOOD Says:

Screw the media and screw her. I’m sorry, but if the act didn’t warrant a police report it doesn’t warrant a civil suit. This couldn’t be a more obvious cash grab! These are great times to be a Buc!! We have Fitzmagic and Winston, best WB tandem in the NFL loaded with weapons. Go Bucs!!

    HoF? True.

But I’d take a few years of Rich Gannon-like QBing in Tampa. He was a nobody before Gruden.

  80. Atlbuc28 Says:

aceinthehole …. research a QB named Rich Gannon..

  81. lambchop Says:

Jameis won’t be out the door because of the Uber incident. It’ll be if he can’t perform and win consistently. The guy was drafted #1 and still in his first contract. The only thing this Uber incident has done is given the team less time to evaluate him (if Fitz continues his magic) before deciding on extending his contract and will probably include conduct clauses and performance activators in his new contract. We may get to keep him at a bargain.

This USA Today article is hot garbage.

  82. Cobraboy Says:

@ Mcruzer: no need to draft a QB if Ryan Griffin is all the coaching staff claims. Tenure under a wise old owl like Fitzpatrick would be vastly more beneficial than a tenure under an immature Winston.

Save a pile of dough trading Winston, sign the key players about to become FA’s, get a couple of high draft choices in a trade and the Bucs are much better than before.

  83. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Rod Munch-

There should be a campaign to insist the media’s pensions are underfunded and should be immediately adequately funded by all of corporate media so that in 5-10 years they’ll all go bankrupt.

  84. Tc Says:

The Glazers will not trade away a franchise level 24 year old that has not reached his peak and gets better statistically every year. They offer him a short term prove it contaract (2 year 40 million dollar contact) and hope everyone forgets the bad publicity.

  85. ATrain Says:

    JMark

    Thank you

I was wondering why I didn’t hear from more Jamies Fans

  86. DB55 Says:

Fitzpatrick = Josh Mccown end of story. And the best thing josh got going for him is his hair. Beautiful head of hair on that man. Likewise Fitz has a heck of a beard but that’s it folks.

  87. jmarkbuc Says:

Ask Ray Rice. Granted his was much more violent. But people don’t forget sex offenders, gropers, whatever you want to call it. Especially one that was on his second chance already. He did something that he absolutely could not do…

Just when this thing was settling down, it’s churned back up in the news cycle for months….

  88. stpetebucsfan Says:

My observations…If you believe our coaches and Licht and the rest at OBP…we have not one…not two…but three great QB’s. The third is yet to prove it under fire but when given the opportunity in preseason he has shown poise.

So we have Fitz…JW…and Griffin. Why would we consider parting with any of them until perhaps forced by contract considerations. We should love them ALL.

IT’S ALL GOOD. We have three good QB’s. Just relax…the cream always rises at the end. I have no doubt heading into the playoffs…without injury…our very best QB will be under center. I don’t care who it is as long as the coaches have selected the very best QB for that job. I trust the coaches and so I’m cool with this situation.

We are NOT getting rid of any of our three QB’s. It’s a luxury to have this kind of depth at QB why would we want to muck it up?

There’s a reason Jameis is not on a stadium mural anymore. How can you give someone a 20mil + per year contract who tried to blame his homies at first, then they wouldn’t take the blame, and he conveniently remembers that he may have been too drunk to recall what he may have done. Fitzmagic has never had an offensive line and playcaller like Monken before. I disagree with most that say he will turn into Fitztragic. He has already played the 2 toughest games of the schedule and broke NFL and franchise records against really good defenses. The only real tough games left may be in the playoff run up to the Superbowl! GO BUCS! FIRE THEM CANNONS!

Can you see Jameis sitting on the couch tonight, crying baby in his lap. Fiancee fuming and giving him the silent treatment ?

The Glazers will not trade away a franchise level 24 year old that has not reached his peak and gets better statistically every year. They offer him a short term prove it contaract (2 year 40 million dollar contact) and hope everyone forgets the bad publicity.

Obviously you haven’t payed a lot of attention to buccaneers ownership through the years, but you may be right the Glazers likely won’t trade him, they are more likely to pass on a modest trade offer and cut him two weeks later when another allegation arises. That would be a true buccaneers scenario.

I seriously think the one Joe (yes we know which one ) will need some serious counseling. I mean he probably cries himself to sleep each night right now.

Don’t worry joe. Jameis ain’t going anywhere. He will get his shot again.

  96. Destinjohnny Says:

At least Jameis is consistent at something.
He is the gift that keeps giving

  97. Season Is Over Says:

Well, everybody and their brother has stated it is just a matter of time before Fitz becomes Fitz. Joe does know for the people that holler and stomp claiming Jameis cannot win games (as if 2016 was just some kind of drunken night at Hooters), Fitz is just about 10 years older than Jameis and he and Jameis have the same number of winning seasons in the NFL.

    That would be one.
    ———————

No, you simply have a bunch of wishful thinkers hoping Fitz fails. Kind of like whoever wrote this article. If Fitz goes 3-0 you do not take him out. End of story. This city has endured the “Lost Decade”. You sit a winning QB for Winston? Haha. Yeah, right! There are no more free passes. Winston hasn’t earned anything. You put Winston in there and he loses the first game. Then what? He is done in this city for good. If you want Winston back in there the only hope you have is wishing for Fitzpatrick’s failure.

    Nothing about Winston seems genuine.

  98. Reach87 Says:

Atrain, do a search of QBR this preseason. Then lets hear the tired “stats are gor losers” line. I love what Fitz is doing now and have always liked his act. That doesn’t make Winston garbage, or tradebait. He was sharp in preseason, and then suspended. Nothing more. Go Bucs!

  99. SB Says:

“Fitz is just about 10 years older than Jameis and he and Jameis have the same number of winning seasons in the NFL.

    ____________

I believe Jameis is the future but Fitz has gotten better as he got older,(what smart people do) and he has NEVER been on a team this good. To compare Jameis and Fitz is ALOT more appropriate to compare their results with the Same team
    Fitz 4 and 1
    Jameis 18 and 27.

  113. TonyC Says:

What makes you think that Monken has any respect for Jameis? Why is this offense suddenly successful (and productive) with Fitzpatrick as the qb? I predicted before the season that Fitz would do well with this offense. He’s mature, his poised, he’s experienced, he has protection (the line is playing their ass off for him). Fitz’s has paid his dues! Why is everyone “expecting” him to fail? I’m rooting my ass for this guy.

My bet is that the people who ARE in control (the Glazer Boyz) have no idea at this point which way they’ll ultimately go on Jameis. It’s terrible that so much attention is being focused at this ‘hassle’ when the REAL story should be all about the TEAM. In case some of you haven’t noticed, those first 2 games weren’t gimmes. Disregard the final scores … they were hard fought, 1 score victories. The Jameis-thing will work its’ way out in its’ own due time. For now though, EVERYONE should be getting behind this TEAM and support those who ARE on the field. One game at a time.

Does anyone really have to explain why that’s an extremely ignorant stupid comment? So last year when he was playing and no one except the bucs had info about it including Monken things were cool but after all this time of knowing this was coming and he finally gets suspended Monken has no respect once he became the playcaller? People are getting dumber by the minute trying to make sense of something they know nothing about. We’re all spectators because you but season tickets it doesn’t mean your in the know please stop with the foolishness.

2-0 and this fanbase is divided over what we know was coming during the season last year. If they stick with Fitz no one can do a damn thing about it if they go with Winston you can’t do a damn thing about it might as well enjoy the ride it’s really all you can do

  121. webster Says:

U guys are morons. U ask why is this offense better? Because the young dogs matured. The oline is definitely better. SB talking about the record of the two qbs when jameis took over a 2-14 team. Hey clueless one, there was no OJ, godwin, jp, curry, djax with a dedicated offseason, monken calling plays, a very good oline, justin evans 2nd year, etc. I could go on. Basically, this is not the same team idiot. Donavan smith has gotten better. Jensen has solidified this online just unger did for the falcons when they went to the bowl. Jameis 1st two years he was throwing to evans and a bunch of lounge singers without an oline. Fyi…for idiots like doosh and godeeo…russell wilson looks horrible. Why? No defense, no oline, no weapons etc. Is he not a good qb? According to you idiots, wilson should still be winning. The first time fitz make a completion while getting hit or under duress will be the first time all season. You are clowns for sure. And too the idiots saying posters are wishing for fitz to fail and they should be ashamed, where were you when all those idiots were actually wishing jameis would fail? Hypocrites!!!!! Cant have it both ways

  122. webster Says:

Oh and for the ones talking about gannon, he never won a bowl and by the time he became relevant, he only had 2 years of being good. Sure lets trade a 24 year old for fitz. 125. Season Is Over Says:

Look at this guy calling people morons. Lol. First off Winston had Evans, Brate, Howard, Jackson, Humphries and others. No one was complaining about weapons for Winston because that was literally the theme of the year and the team delivered.

Very good OL? This OL has not played well. The run game has been an absolute joke of a disaster. The pass blocking OL has looked good because Fitz is a decisive passer. Overall, I would say the OL looks pretty bad this season. Where are the successful screen passes? I hope for improvement as the season wears on.

I want the Bucs to keep winning. Taking Fitzpatrick out if he continues to win would be a disservice to a fan base that has taken quite a bit. I think the team is smarter than that. Has Winston earned the right to take over this team at 3-0 to sit Fitzpatrick? I can see both sides but common sense tells you otherwise.

Oh btw….many of those games there was no OJ, Djax, dotson, ali, sweezy etc which meant the oline really sucked. Did fitz throw for 4OO+ yrds and 4tds last year when he had all the weapons? No idiot because OJ was not as good, godwin was not as good, the oline was not as good. Here is another question, when fitz played with his other 7 teams, did he ever throw for 4OOO yrds in a season with lounge singers and no running game? You do realize he only had one season where he had a 63% completion right? Most other seasons were 55%, 58% etc. Jameis completion % has gone up every year. Yes, you are the moron. Fitz isn’t going to be lighting up the NFL for the next 10 years, because he’s already deep into his 30s. Unless you can name me a great NFL QB pushing 50, then why would you think Fitz is the long-term answer over JW? Insanity.

Is Koetter willing to risk his career to let Jameis knock the rust off? Of course, this will hinge on Fitzpatrick beating Pittsburgh. THIS! So much this!
What I find interesting about this dialogue is people think that the Bucs owe something to Jameis Winston. People keep acting like he’s the ONLY QB the Bucs can ever have. Because of what? His wins can be replaced, his stats can be replaced, HE can be replaced. He has done nothing in this league. Yea, he’s a 24 year old gun-slinger. Who gives a crap.
The fact that Buc “fans” want to downplay what Fitzpatrick is doing to prop up this guy makes me want Fitzy to keep the job.
The bottom line is this, he either can play or he can’t play. He’s one guy on a TEAM of guys. He still has to prove that he belongs and he can’t do it while suspended. If he’s our QB, great. If not, oh well, moving on.
Speaking of moving on, I wish we could move on from talking about a guy who isn’t even on the field. The last couple of weeks have been fun.

    it can happen…it will happen….
    —————————

I’ve been saying this for a couple of weeks. The similarities between the 99 Rams and these Bucs are shocking. Rams were coming off yet another bad season at 4-12 and were picked to suck again in the old NFC West. They came out of the gates firing on all cylinders after Mike Martz was named offensive coordinator and Kurt Warner took over for an injured Trent Green.

I want Jameis to move on because the media & so called can write about 10 more losing seasons. TAMPA can have Tom Jones I hope Jameis declines signing a long term & leaves after being Franchised twice like Cousins did. Jameis will win Super Bowls ELSEWHERE!

  165. C. Alaka Says:

I remeber just last yr KC was 5-0 & Alex Smith/K. Hunt are MVP to this point. KC finishes 5-6 the rest of the way, they lose in the 1st row & Mahomes is now throwing 10 TDs in 2 games w/ virtually the same offense.

Go ahead & get rid of the younger (more talented) QB, let’s see what happens in the very near future. Bucs don’t know how to handle success. We have got lucky w/ Fitz playing WELL above what he has shown in the last 9 seasons. So let’s CALM DOWN!

FYI it’s so funny DJax is saying “stay w/ the hot hand” aka Fitz. I know that the Bucs offense was moving better w/ Goodwin last yr as rookie & Jameis had NO problems hitting him deep; all while he was replacing DJax. I didn’t hear Jameis say “hey guys, lets stay w/ the hot hand.” I think it was foolish for him to say that in my opinion.
