Fitzpatrick Locks Down Back-To-Back NFC Player Of The Week Honors

September 19th, 2018

Joe knows of no better tonic with which to wash away the latest Jameis Winston lawsuit than a fresh accolade for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Today, Fitzpatrick was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. That is no easy task.

In fact, Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com notes just how hard it is to collect a lot of these awards. Fitzpatrick now has seven in his career.

Indeed, only two players have won any sort of Player of the Week award in either conference – Offensive, Defensive or Special Teams – more often than Fitzpatrick in the last five seasons. Both are quarterbacks, as Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers has been selected eight times in that span and Carolina’s Cam Newton has taken home seven awards. Fitzpatrick has now tied New England’s Tom Brady and Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger for third on that list.

How bout one more, Fitz! Bring on the winless Steelers and their porous defense.

    Focus on the positive….

  2. patrickbucs Says:

That’s awesome, one more defense to go against that we can put up some serious points against!

  3. Robert Says:

    Ballin brah

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Hopefully he makes it 3 in a row.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Hah! Just watched the Broncos vs Raiders game. Bet Gruden is regretting his choice right now.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

It really is a great look for him, if I had the beard and chest hair to pull that look off, that’s how I’d go around 24/7.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Fitz deserves the reward. He’s ballin’.

I loved the move when we got him. He’s a legit starter. Jameis is learning QB play he never would have otherwise. He would’ve got the job done as well, but watching Fitz do his thing, surgeon like, was gold. The film sessions together next week will further Jameis’ QB education immeasurably. And when he get his shot, he’ll “operate” this offense just fine.

  9. AlteredEgo Says:

Maybe Jameis can order a FitzGlamix starter kit in time for 🎃

With an outfit like that are you sure Fitz isn’t auditioning for a role in the upcoming film Bohemian Rhapsody?

  12. Clw JB Says:

Agree completely, this might be the best thing that ever happened to JW, being able to watch and learn – Fitz has MASTERED this O in less than 2 years…

We all love to bash Gruden…but he is so spot on in his assessment of having a true veteran QB to lean on – Fitz is completely reminding me of the Rich Gannon run with ole Johnny…

Well done Fitz. Against all odds and against all the know it all egghead predictions. You cost a lot of NFL halftime guys a lot of money. I could see it on their faces at halftime and after the game. Oh, and Fitz, by the way, they said you won’t do it again this week, just like they said last week.

Put it in their mouths. For us. Thanks in advance.

  21. Slugglife Says:

Hey Walter Seidel, just leave that alone buddy. Time to stop piling on our players. I know we’re so used to losing that it’s hard for us to act like we’ve been there before, but we have. Let’s not have our fan base be the reason guys don’t want to sign here.

We have two bad ass QBs right now. Most teams have no serviceable backups. Jameis is the future here, whether you like it or not.

  22. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

Agree Joe, One More POTW and let the legend that is Fitzmagic rest. (For now and maybe forever.)

Let the MVP have his team/Baby back

Fitz can enjoy paradise, AKA Tampa, riding off into that sunset never tasted better… GOOD TONIC Indeed Sir!!!

  23. ben Says:

please bucs … Trade Winston as bucs season tkt holders deserve better then all the low life drama as the face of the team.

  24. lambchop Says:

    @FreeTheSecretWeapon,

So, 3 straight POTW honors and you want to bench the hot hand? SMH.

  25. LostinPa Says:

Fitz is the man until he ain’t. Nothing a QB loves more than control of his own destiny. If he wins out then so be it. I see him hurt or played out by week 8 at most but long as we are top of the best division in the NFL he ain’t going anywhere.

  26. Big Stinky Says:

Hope Fitzy has one more in him, because the Steelers are going to get jacked up for this game. I wonder if the DL is going to get to Big Ben? If not, he can score 30+ on us easy. Our DB”s won’t have it so easy, as they did against the Eagles. AB and JJSS are gonna be open, you can count on it. Probably going to be another shootout like in NO. Exciting to be a BUCS fan all of a sudden. #FearTheBeard #GoBucs

  27. Jim Says:

    Go Fitz! Go Bucs!!

  28. Big Stinky Says:

    @FreeTheSecretWeapon

I’m with lambchop! Fitz set a record already. Let him have his moment while it lasts.

  29. BIrd Says:

He is walking on water right now !

So happy for him and his family. His boys have got to be stoked

All it takes is one unproven accusation nearing three years ago for a few racist clowns to call for Jameis to be cut or traded away. One single unsubstantiated incident ignoring the model citizen he has been for nearly four years. Fitz is a short term solution that teams can and will scheme to stop at some point. Jameis is the long term solution that has never had an OL like this with this corps of receivers. I hope Fitz goes 19-0, but the future of this franchise is Jameis Winston. GO BUCS

  33. Fitzmagic Will End Says:

    1 sparky buc gets it.

  34. gp Says:

Even the perfect wave eventually finds a beach
Lets hope its a long and epic ride
One thing is for sure though
Once Fitz gets the board to the beach… Its Winston’s turn!

  35. Slugglife Says:

Hey sparky, racism didn’t get Jameis suspended.

  36. orlbucfan Says:

A good guy who finished first twice. Very rare in life. Congrats and kudos to the Fitzster. He deserves it!

  37. T REX Says:

Race has nothing to do with an immoral qb.
