Koetter Nearly Pulled Fitz

September 30th, 2018

QB drama.

Dirk Koetter must really like Ryan Griffin.

The backup quarterback who has never taken a snap in an NFL game always gets bouquets thrown at him by Koetter whenever the Bucs head coach talks quarterbacks. And per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Koetter was so disgusted with the play of fellow backup Ryan Fitzpatrick against the Steelers in the first half, Rapoport reports Koetter openly admitted in a team meeting last week he was about to pull the trigger on Griffin.

This, of course, begs the question, how short of a leash does Fitz have with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston breathing down his back?

Wow… Ok so we’ll see Jameis after the bye then that’s for sure.

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    ummmmmmmmmmm……….yeah

well what choice did Dirk have?????

That’s why I think we’ll see Jameis in the game today if Fitz stinks it up

  3. BuccaneerScotty Says:

GRIFFIN will be Winston’s backup quarterback next year.

  4. Not there yet Says:

Fake news this is the biggest lie I’ve ever heard and here we go again. Your going to make Ryan Griffin first game ever a Monday night prime time game really? This is beyond pathetic and if it was true it would be easy to move back to Winston.

National opinion matters when talking about whether we are goodand how we stack up against competitors but when it comes to the web positon there’s just too much of their opinion here. If we really cared we could go looking for it but people like me don’t for a reason but now your reporting what everyone says whether it’s stupid or not and this is clearly idiotic. Again would have given Koetter the green light when Winston came back. Another way just to drag out this stupid narrative of theirs and now the joes since you keep reporting it.

There’s only one source that needs this drama to continue and that’s the media and boy are you good at making something out of nothing. Really are a lot of sheepeople out there

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

sheepeople? I just peed my self a little. lol

  6. EA Says:

Yeah im not buying this news either, RG3 hasn’t played in a real game yet you’re gonna pull him in relief of a QB that lit it up the first 9 quarters but struggled one quarter.
If this news is true than I question Dirks thinking, wait what else in new.

  7. Zwak Says:

I would like to see Griffin in a real game, we really don’t know what this kid is capable of.

  8. Architek Says:

Please stop calling him a pro-bowler

  9. Lamarcus Says:

    ^^^^^^

You mean stop acknowledging his pro bowl

  10. R.O. Says:

That means JW3 should be starting today. Plus Bucs had the ball 3:00 mins left Monday night and we go 3 and out on 3 incompletions. The last time JW3 was in that situation we drive the field and score.

  11. Wausa Says:

He was in the Pro Bowl

  12. IAN B Says:

Dirk is setting up JW to return at Atlanta if not at some point during the game today. Jameis riding the bench today is a combo of Fitz starting off hot, being 2-1 and most importantly teaching JW a final lesson of being active and riding the bench.

The org is telling him you are our potential future but screw up again and we move on

  13. Cobraboy Says:

I don’t buy Fitz was about to be pulled.

  14. BucNole Says:

I’m seriously “wish some of your MF’ers would learn how to spell and write a sentence that makes sense” yrs. old.

  15. Wausa Says:

I hope I’m wrong but I think Coach Koetter is not handling the QB situation very well.

If the Bucs believe Jamies is “a QB you build your franchise around”
as Coach Koetter stated yesterday then you start Jamies.

  16. DBS Says:

Wausa. After about 100 posts we would have never guessed you felt that way.

  17. jmarkbuc Says:

    Wausa

Not sure why you are so concerned..

We’re actually in a good spot with QB’s… If Fitz is great, great. If he’s not JW is waiting for his shot. Unless you’re worried about Fitz continuing to play and JW getting mad?

Next season, we sign JW to a deal that’s favorable for all or we can Tag him..What’s JW gonna do, go Leveon Bell on us?

  18. Buc4life7878 Says:

Yeah, okay. Don’t believe that for a second.

  19. JabooBuc Says:

This is just dumb and didn’t happen. If it did, I’m certain it was said in jest. Why would a coach tell a team that?

  20. jmarkbuc Says:

Fitz has had one bad quarter..

A pic that was because of a bad route

A pic that was because of blown protection

The pic six was on him, but you don’t pull your QB for that.. we’ve seen that with ahem..other QB’s.

He also had two TD’s dropped, and a nice gain fumbled awaEverything is gonna be fine..If you must worry, worry about the D

  21. DBS Says:

Hey Larmarcus. Guess what. GMC was in the Pro Bowl too. So what does that mean to you? That means they were both great players to get there right?

  22. JabooBuc Says:

    What Jmarkbuc said.

  23. View from 132 Says:

Ryan Griffin could QB this team with the proper prep. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him end up our QB next year and free up millions from Jameis to spend on our many other needs. Fitz will return as a backup… to Griffin.

  24. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I dint find his report credible. Koetter has been very tight lipped about the QB situation. And would he really toss out a guy with a weaker arm than Fitz who has never played a snap in an actual NFL game? Much less why would he tell this to Rapaport when he never me tuned it to any of the local beat writers? I don’t buy it.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

IAN B…teaching him a lesson? Couldn’t be that it’s a short week or anything like that… smh

You must be the real Ian Beckles… smfh

DBS…I’ll answer that for Lamarcus….no the Pro Bowl is a popularity contest these days….where did Lamarcus say it means you’re a good player? Damn sorry Lam I had to reply, cause I never get it when someone implies something that’s NOT there.

  26. 1sparkybuc Says:

Fitz was the third rated QB in preseason games and he had starters to work with. One more turnover in the third quarter would have put him on the bench. Nothing far fetched about it. I hope he has a great game today. It might be his last.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

“Dirk Koetter told his team this week”

Why would Dirk tell the entire team that?

I thought Rapoport wasn’t some hack…but I’m starting to wonder about this dude.

  28. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Today the magic ends. All you fools who think otherwise can then climb back into the holes you came from.

  29. Tampabucfan88 Says:

@jmarkbuc really come on how u know if he was talking about the picks in the first quarter we were in fg range he took a long sack that fg would took the game to ot or Mike Evans was wide open on a play in the 3r quarter and threw to Godwin in triple coverage and that’s just a taste of what I saw ur going by the intceptions u need to look at the whole game he played u blame the whole team but fitz is not getting away from this scott free he made a lot of mistakes

  30. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Would’ve loved to seen Griffin right after Fitz threw the pick 6
Also besides what the hell does Dirk have to gain by just making up that he was about to pull the magic man? His freaking job and his staff’s is on the line, so do you think for one second he wants start lieing and potentially split the locker room. Dammit Give the man a break, he is gonna do what he can to win football games and if that means dressing Jones or benching a QB That’s stinking up the joint Go Bucs Bucs sun today 20-13

  31. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Auto correct Bucs WIN today 20-13

  32. DBS Says:

See 87 that’s where you all like to play the 2 faced gcame. Imply Winston is some superstar because of a Pro Bowl. But then bring up GMC Ang he is Garbage yet he was in the same Pro Bowl. That is what lamarcus does. And why you should keep your mouth shut. Not answer for him.

  33. Wausa Says:

If fitz is the QB I hope he wins every game and the Bucs win the Super Bowl.
I just think Jamies is a better QB and the head coach yesterday said ‘Jamies is a QB you build your franchise around’

If he and Licht don’t think Jamies is the answer then I think the Bucs should turn the page and look to move him.

  34. Cobraboy Says:

I agree with View from 132.

If the team is high on Griffin, I would not be surprised if Winston was moved, freeing up a massive boxcar of money to address other needs, and goes with Fitz/Griffin in 2019.

While having shown so spurts of brilliance, Winston is a turnover machine, always has been, and I see no evidence of that changing.

  35. Trench War Says:

This is a public relations move if ever there was one.
