“I’m The Starting Right Guard”

September 5th, 2018

Third-year offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch was all smiles at his locker today chatting with the Sage of Tampa Bay sports, JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman, at One Buc Palace.

And why not.

Benenoch has grinded his way to a starting gig, so he declared today.

“I’m the starting right guard,” Benenoch said when asked about his role Sunday in New Orleans.

Benenoch has one game of significant experience at guard — in New Orleans two years ago. Last year, he started during the second half of the season for injured Demar Dotson at right tackle.

The Bucs gave him every shot to win the job at right guard, installing him as the No. 1 guy through the spring and into the summer. But Benenoch had his share of injuries through training camp and the preseason and still wears a knee brace to prove it.

He’s ready to go, though, and even Dotson talked today about Benenoch being the new man beside him on the line.

The 2016 fifth-round pick has been a development project for the Bucs, like Kevin Pamphile was before him. Joe’s confident Benenoch will be fine run blocking. His pass blocking will be worth watching very closely. Look for new center Ryan Jensen to shade in his direction.

The Saints have two very talented DE’s and especially Cameron Jordan.

The middle of our line better hold because those outside guys will be in Fitz’s grill early and often forcing him to step up in the pocket…IF…there’s a pocket to step up in.

  2. gotbbucs Says:

There is no way that he could be worse at any one thing than Evan Smith.

  3. Reolity-is-a-Beotch Says:

scary bad right side of line with scarier depth…. they will kill more drives than ints and fumbles combined…

if dotson in this guy are the best they think they have that is ZERO confidence in depth

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Instant upgrade from Sweezy. And we haven’t even really seen him play yet…. LOL

  5. Pickgrin Says:

Dotson doesn’t like you either maxi-pad.

He was our best OLine player for 11 games last year btw…

so would a special olympian but that does not make Benenoch a quality nfl player much less starter

being the best turd in the bowl does not make it edible my friend…. he is garbage compared to real RT’s…

    pick

it’s not a popularity contest. the only thing that matters is wins. who gives a rats arse, if anyone likes anyone. it’s about results not feelings…. you are either a winner or loser and like batman, dotson has been a loser his entire career… you can’t rewrite history because you like the guy or he is a nice guy that is irrelevant. win or go away!

  9. Dapostman Says:

I don’t know about Benenoch. It seemed every time Winston was under duress the last 5 games Benenoch was standing around watching. Seems like the look-out block may be his specialty.

    oh boy!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

Hopefully he’s up for the task.

  12. Godeep66 Says:

I just hope North America’s Quarterback (Ryan Fitzpatrick) does not get crushed with this makeshift line. This guy probably would’ve never made hey 53 man roster on any of the other 31 teams

  13. Hodad Says:

Just proves Cappa was a wasted 3rd round pick.

  14. Getaclue Says:

Always got unappreciated , Super Bowl winning center, highest graded buccaneers guard Evan Smith

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Hmmm, looks like the trolls are out in force this afternoon. Usually they wait until night-time to come out from under the bridges. Just as a suggestion Reolity (or whatever your real handle is), why don’t you investigate the other 31 teams and see if you can find one that excites you. Of course, by the time you’re through with their fans, you’ll probably have them as well as the team demoralized & drinking heavily. I’ve got it, the Saints, Falcons & Panthers … root for them. They all made the playoffs last year … now there’s something to bitch about. After all, none of them won the Super Bowl. Danged losers. Go get ’em. Tear ’em to shreds, go ahead.

” Joe’s confident Benenoch will be fine run blocking.”

This pleases me if true cus I guarantee they’re gonna be giving the rock to Barber on many occasions. Especially in the first half.

    PB=1,000+ yrds. 2018!!!

  17. Kobe Faker Says:

“Kobe is really hoping Monken is the playcaller and they run alot of short quick pass plays to save Fritzs from injury. We cant see to many 3rd and longs where Fritz has to hold the ball waiting for the recievers to be open downfield. We need Fritz to start hot by getting him in rhythm with the short passes.

We cant have FRITZ BE THE PLAYMAKER…

We need Fritz to throw the ball quickly TO OUR PLAYMAKERS – to have them make EXPLOSIVE PLAYS”

“IF WE ALLOW/DEPEND ON FRITZ TO WIN THE GAME…WE WILL LOSE”

    Kobe Faker

  18. Godeep66 Says:

Cynthia Frelund, the analytics guru, has us with 4 wins this year. She is always pretty darn close. Make me want to choke on my lobster tail over lunch.

  19. SOEbuc Says:

Oh my dear lord…This is the first time i’ve ever agreed with anything Kobe Faker has ever said.

Monken needs to be calling the plays all year I don’t know why they haven’t established that.

A lot of run plays to PB but also a lot of 10-20 yard passes to mix it up and push downfield. Fitz is good at putting it on the money 10-20 yards.

This game is going to come down to mostly how the O-line plays imo. Good D-line play couldn’t hurt either.

Fitz also gonna pull an Al Bundy and run for four TDs.

  20. Gambelero Says:

I thought it over long and hard. It was a close decision, but I’ve decided to cheer for him to have a good game and a good season. I almost chose to cheer against him and hope he plays terribly, but in the end the former beat out the latter.

  21. Reolity-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Defense Rules

I have earned the right to expect my team to be competitive in the NFL. They would not even compete in the pathetic pac 12 over the last decade plus. you deal with losing your way I’ll deal with it my way but living in denial and rewriting history in the name of Optimism or PC is laughable and downright pathetic. They need to earn respect on the field first. They have less credibility than Weinstein.

  22. Kobe Faker Says:

    @SOE

agreed. Getting Fritz to move around using his legs and throwing on the run might get his rhythm going. Maybe alittle up temp beginning of the game to put the saints Def on its heels

    Fritz is very streaky.

  23. INSPIRED Says:

I aree with Dapostman. That is EXACTLY what I saw as well…. For all of our sakes I hope SOMEONE taught him how to FOLLOW THROUGH!

I’m actually still hoping we bring another O linemen to compete or just FIX the problem at right guard. I mean you would think so since EVERYONES JOB IS ON THE LINE!

I’m telling you its true what Dapostman saw because I saw it too often as well…..!

  24. BucsNeedNewFans Says:

    @Reolity
Demar Dotson was one of the highest rated Right Tackles last season, but good try anyway, Let me guess though, you’re going off your all mighty eye test? Shut your mouth you know nothing

  25. Therookie325 Says:

Agree with Kobe 100% Fitz just needs to follow the Brad Johnson game plan and just be a game manager and not try to be too big. Monken definitely needs to be calling the plays too. The offense just seems to have more flow when he is calling plays
