So Far So Good With Barber

September 13th, 2018

Presence felt.

My, it’s nice to have a running attack.

After two years of beating their heads against a cinder block wall, it seems the Bucs finally have a decent starting running back. Sure, that’s based on one shootout game and limited action last season, but Bucs running back Peyton Barber sure is helping the offense.

Hall of Fame quarterback Ken Stabler once said that too many third-and-longs will have you sleeping on your side of the bed. Barber is making sure his offensive teammates are comforted at night.

In the win over the Saints, per the good folks at NFL Films by way of NFL Matchup, Barber was one of the most productive backs in the NFL on first down in Week 1. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry on first down.

That really helps an offense when it is relying on its backup quarterback for the time being.

Hoping this guy Barber can be our team MVP

  2. Rojas Says:

Wish they would of ran him a little bit more, he had like 60 something yards.

  3. HFXBUC Says:

He had one of the least celebrated performances last week but he had a great game.

Lets be real , Fitz helped himself with his intelligent play, As for Barber 5.1 yard average on first down.
it would also help any QB and it allowed Montgen to run a consistently
aggressive offense,. especially with Fitz adding some timely runs.

  5. adam from ny Says:

he needed like 5 more carries…but the beard was delivering heat, so they opted away from barber…he should avg. like 22 carries a game

  6. NCBuccaneer Says:

Lost in this is the fact the O line gave him room to run and great protection for downfield throws for Fitz. Jenson is real and now Bucs can lean on that line to run and grind out wins

I believe they can have even more success running the ball if they didn’t telegraph their runs i.e.: I-formation, 2 TE’s w/1 in the backfield off-tackle. “We’re running now!”
This formation seemed to be the only one that netted zero or negative yardage last week.

I know we will need our RBs to block this game, Imreally do not expect ROJO to be active this week either, but I would love to see us use our RBs in the pass game with their aggressive pass rush. Against NOLA, we did use the RBs or the TEs very much in the passing game. I expect that will be a part of the game plan

Give him the rock inside the 5. I need TD’s
