Bucs Add Nassib To DL

September 3rd, 2018

Makes a move.

Joe has to admit this is a head-scratcher.

The Bucs just claimed a guy off waivers that an 0-16 team didn’t want, and tossed aside a guy who had almost as many sacks.

Last year, now former Bucs defensive end Will Clarke led the team for edge rushers in sacks with 2.5 (let that sink in for a moment.). Clarke was expendable after the 2016 winless Browns threw Carl Nassib to the curb.

Maybe he can play tackle as well? Nassib did have nine passed defended in two years so that is good.

Joe: I guess we are to assume that the Bucs just picked up Nassib? Really not clear in your article.

  2. mark2001 Says:

Joe… I heard Cleveland did bring in a number of vets to overhaul that line, and it became a numbers game. Not saying he is much better than what we had, but seems to have a great deal of potential.

  3. SchwiftyBuc Says:

he had .5 more sacks than Clarke so I guess it’s an improvement.

  4. BuccaneEric75 Says:

GoDeep, I guess the Title and second sentence didn’t give it away?

  5. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Also despite the Browns being 0-16, their defense was much, much better than ours was last year.

  6. martinii Says:

I think it is a good move and should help out until Vea and Urlein return. Hate to lose Clark but this guy is only 25 and played on a team that collectively couldn’t get out of its own way. Maybe under Buckner he will mature.
Mike Mayock said when Nassib graduated from Penn ST. and was drafted by Cleveland based on his Sr. year that he had all the potential of J.J. Watt. 15.5 sacks,(school record), 19 TFL. He was 2 yr starter for Browns. A lot of Cleveland Fans are scratching their heads also.

  7. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Nassib has good measureable 6-7, 277lbs and 4.7 is the 40. Just like the bucs, he had no support from his peers on the line last year. He might flourish in another system. I think he’s worth the look. As for Clarke, I’m sure he will be given another chance, either with us or another team.

  8. Bill Says:

We have a caucasian Will Gholston.

  9. Bird Says:

The have drafted defensive ends recently : Myles Garrett , Chad Thomas and Emmanuel ogbah

And signed Chris smith in free agency this year. Not sure who they already had. Plus that doesn’t include DTs who they obtained.

All guys above are defensive ends so you can’t keep everyone ; especially when those guys drafted higher Numbers game. Buck will coach him up. Sorry. Will Clarke will make practice roster

  10. Tampa Stadium Says:

    Joe,
Mother nature sure looks like it will disrupt Saint’s practice at some point. We need all the help we can get.

  11. Buchead5588 Says:

Will Clarke is told old for PS but I love this move Nassib has a high mortar great pick up getting some nice depth at DE

  12. mark2001 Says:

And I’ll get this out of the way…just consider…Quentin Nelson “Early into Indianapolis Colts’ training camp, guard Quenton Nelson of Notre Dame has looked worthy of his first-round selection” helping to solidify our O line, instead of “Hope he can play” Vea. But oh man, winning that NO game was sure important, wasn’t it?

But being the nice guy I am, if that “confidence” helps up beat NO on Sunday, I will admit that there may have been SOME benefit in confidence of winning that game. Otherwise, it had no redeeming value.

  13. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

The odd thing was I had an odd feeling he might get cut and for some reason we would pick him up. I watched him in several games and their is something about this guy I like. Go watch what he did to our guys in last years preseason game. I have a good feeling about this kid. Go Bucs!

  14. Onetime007 Says:

Head-scratcher? Are you serious….this is a guy with all the measurables and was an early 3rd round pick two years ago. Will he succeed? Who knows but I like his upside MUCH better than Will Clarke. Clarke showed literally nothing and has no upside …. Nassib was terrific at Penn State, has been a legit starter in the league and has a motor that doesn’t stop. Finally a good waiver wire pick up.

  15. DB55 Says:

claimed a guy off waivers that an 0-16 team didn’t want,
    ————-
    Preach, Joseph, Preach!

And may I add they cut a behemoth of a man in tackle in 6’8″ 330lb Brad Seaton who in my eyes played darn well. The kid played at Villanova and is from the Bronx. Why would you cut such a man when you desperately need help at tackle? Oh bc he held a guy who was about to hit the QBs, smh, I just don’t get it.

  16. donuts Says:

I think they should have dumped Spence over Clarke. I must be missing something. Anyway, coach Buck should be good for Nassib growth. He is only 25 and has good wheels. This is a good pickup.

  17. Dewey Selmon Says:

This poor guy has won 1 game in 2 years and he goes from Cleveland north to Cleveland south. The factory of sadness to the Den of Depression.

  18. NJBucsFan Says:

An 0-16 team has had players claimed on waivers yet the Bucs have not…there is no correlation. This is an improvement over Will Clarke

  19. Mike Says:

We should have traded up for Nelson

  20. Defense Rules Says:

@donuts … “I think they should have dumped Spence over Clarke.” I agree. Will Clarke had as many sacks (6.5) in the past 2 years as Spence. And more than double what Will Gholston has contributed (3) in 2 years.

  21. Bird Says:

Will Clarke was drafted in 2014 and has career 7 sacks
Carl nassib was drafted in 2016 and has career 5.5 sacks

Not sure why people are thinking Will Clarke was some baller

  22. Bird Says:

CAN WE get the running back for virgina tech

    Instead of ROJO

  23. webster Says:

Are we really crying for will clarke? The bucs know who he is. Nasib while i am not crowning him but with the bucs missing vea and mitch, maybe this guy will bring flexibility and play inside as well. If mitch and vea were not hurt, the bucs probably do not make this move. What i do know is the balance of the bucs season was not going to come down to will clarke so lets see what happens.

  24. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Building your team from other teams trash is what all the cool kids are doing

  25. Cobraboy Says:

    Will who?

  26. webster Says:

    @ mike

Trading up for nelson does not give you 3 2nd round picks. We needed secondary help badly. Lets see how our corners play before we cry about a player that we dont have. Btw…rojo’s book is not finished yet.

  27. Lamarcus Says:

Nassib is a reason the Browns sucked. For Will Clarke? Should of sent Spence to PS

  28. SB Says:

Looks like the Aguayos are still sucking!

  29. Gene Deckehoff is my hero Says:

Sure would be nice to add Derwin James Jr. so that this man wouldn’t have to be added.. Fire Jason Licht

  30. Gene Deckehoff is my hero Says:

Lichts Head Scratchers should be a Bucs fan club…

  31. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Lamarcus what in gods name are you talking about? A rotational defensive end wasn’t any where close to the top of the list of reasons why the Browns sucked last year.

Will Clarke was nothing special. Noah Spence at least still has a lot of potential. And Carl Nassib was more productive than Clark last season and is much more physically gifted, so I really don’t see how you or anyone could have a problem with this swap.

  32. Doctor Stroud Says:

On Hard Knocks, Nassib was known for giving financial advice to his teammates. He’ll probably learn a thing or two from Bucs players past and present about what to do with all of that Glazer loot. Lesson #1: Make sure to give a big smile for the cameras and the fans when you are raking in all of that Glazer loot on floppy hat duty!

  33. GrafikDetail Says:

Nassib was a player Licht targeted in the 2016 draft…

  34. Joe Says:

Nassib was a player Licht targeted in the 2016 draft…

    Pretty sure that’s incorrect.

  35. Joe Says:

Nassib was terrific at Penn State, has been a legit starter in the league and has a motor that doesn’t stop.

Oh, boy! He’s got a motor!!!

  36. TOM Says:

Great pickup. Should have signed Brian Hill from Bengals.

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I have to agree with SchwiftyBuc.

Will Clarke earned nothing except being cut.

And I don’t understand why there’s a mystery about Carl Nassib. Every year, Jason Licht likes to use a roster spot at the start of the season to try guys out, hoping to strike gold.

Carl Nassib might end up being worth keeping. If not, Licht will bring someone else in. That’s how he finds these guys no one else does.

  38. Martinii Says:

Hate to bitch but I was the 6th fan to post on this artical at 7:28 PM. It finally. It finally showed up at 10:17 PM 33 post later. Waste of time cause nobody read it. Nothing like being a 2nd class nobody.

  39. Marc Says:

    JOE

    LMAO at your last comment!

  40. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs had by far the worst defense in football last year. If you make the argument that everything is based off team wins than Flacco is better than Dan Marino, or even more absurd you think Mariota is better than Winston. LOL!

  41. Joe Says:

    Marc:

That’s how everyone and their brother described Clayborn. “He’s got a motor.”

To this day every time Joe hears that word, even when dealing with cars or airplanes, he thinks of Clayborn.

  42. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Oh you mean Clayborn, the guy who had as many sacks in one game than anyone on our team ALL SEASON!?
Against what many call the best Oline in a long time, the Cowgirls.
    I’m calling it now.
We have a double digit sacker in 2018!!
    Go BUCS!!

  43. rrsrq Says:

Laughing at the guys saying we should’ve dropped Spence instead of Clark, seriously if Nassib has 5.5 sacks since 2015 and I am not sure how many games he played in, but doesn’t Spence have that many and more plus strip sacks and played in I am sure les games than Nassib. But he is a Buc now, so I ride with him

  44. Marc Says:

    ALASKAN

That performance by Clayborn is what people call an “anomaly”. It only happened once and it surely isn’t going to happen again, no matter how low the OL he is facing is ranked. If we were going to use one game a couple of years ago to judge a player in we would’ve never cut Doug Martin (250yd game against Oakland), fans wouldn’t be bitching about Chris Conte (2 game winning career picks), and Godser Cherilus would still be a Buc.

  45. Brandon Says:

I was very high on Nassib coming out of Penn St and at the Senior Bowl. He’s got a little burst, some strength, and great length. He’s like an extremely poor man’s version of JJ Watt…. JJ Nott.

  46. chargedcbh Says:

I would put Nassib and JPP in the middle of the line and tell them to put there arms up. That’s it, Brees wouldn’t be able to see anything.
