Bucccaneers 48, Saints 40

September 9th, 2018

Monster day

Man, the Bucs sure brought their big mother $^&$’n stick today. Wow!

Is there anything better than humiliating the Saints in their own crib?

Through three quarters, Ryan Fitzpatrick was a whopping 17-for-25 for 339 yards and three touchdowns, with Peyton Barber looking super sharp running — and picking up the blitz.

The Bucs were ripping off explosive play after explosive play. DeSean Jackson, Mike Evans, Barber, Adam Humphries.

Fitzpatrick finished with a whopping four touchdown throws for 417 yards and a three-yard touchdown run, plus a critical first-down scramble on 3rd-and-long to just about ice the win. If he’s not the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, then a crime will have been committed.

You know what? Joe’s not going to bitch about the brutal defense, not now anyway, not on this freakin’ high. Scoreboard! They did eventually settled down and Kwon Alexander got over his crappy start to deliver Pro Bowl–caliber play for an important stretch.

This “W” is exactly what a mentally-questionable Bucs team needed, Dirk Koetter’s third opening day victory in a row. But it was more than that, a statement game that might make everyone across the Bay area and the nation realize the Bucs have the talent to beat any team in the NFL.

The bar has been set high after this one.

Stick with Joe through the afternoon and evening for plenty on this game. Joe is heading to the happy locker room.

3rd opening day victory?? So how many playoff wins?? Dumb stat Joe. Doesn’t matter

  7. Red86 Says:

    Mike Smith Must go!!!!

  8. Dirty Bucs Says:

The offense is so legit. Thank God he’s letting Monken call the plays. Please don’t ever change that.

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

Fitz was incredible today and sealed the game with that run.

    America’s qb, Ryan Fitzpatrick

  13. Buc Neckid Says:

That last Saints Touchdown was just brutal.
    Zero effort.
NOBODY gave ANY effort to even slow it down.
    Ridiculous!!!!

  14. Ugandan Knuckles Says:

Already ready for us to play like crap next week like the previous two years. At least we’re at home this time.

  15. Trench War Says:

Fitz MVP on offense, Justin Evans MVP on defense

  16. Brad Isherwood Says:

Yo Ho Ho….and a Bottle of Rum!!

    No Voodoo left for N’awlins : )

The Bucs O and D won on the one vs one.
    That’s big win for road.

    Character win…
Ya…a bit scary at the end….Character Win!

  17. Jhspeer5@gmail.com Says:

You people do realize that Drew Brees and the Saints get paid to play football too? 5eir offense is prolific and they were playing at home. Oh yeah, and we were missing out best CB.

Any win in the NFL is a big win but this one is special. This team can’t put points on the board against anyone. I said it before, if this defense can just be average, we will win more than we lose.

  18. DBS Says:

    Sleep tight Lakeland and maxipad.

  19. Another J Says:

I’m glad the offense scored enough to mask the brutal defense that Mike Smith called.
    Fitzpatrick was the man today!

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

Statement game. Now get healthy and dial in the defense. Luckily we don’t see Drew Brees again for awhile and few QBs and deliver a comeback like Mr Brees.

  21. Bird Says:

    Joe’s.

Why not bitch about defense. You did everytime Jameis lost a game last year. Defense played the same – terrible

But good qb play can overcome weaknesses Not saying Fitz is the future. But he did hit 3 plays of over 35 yards for a td. He has same weapons as we did last year for the most part.

  22. '79Defense Says:

Great win. Only complaint is that I’d like to see this team finally get over the 48 point mark. They got 48 in the Super Bowl and I think one other time on opening day with Steve DeBerg at QB. We’ve never scored in the 50s.

  23. Reach87 Says:

1-0. Great start! One week at a time Bucs. Get healthy. Where are the faithless “fans?” Please don’t come back. Go Bucs!

  24. nano107 Says:

If you score 48 every week you don’t need defense lol l
    They manhandled NO
Drew is a beast he’ll score on you no matter how good you are

  25. GMC hater Says:

All the doubters and critics have been silenced. The franchise savior has returned to bring us glory!!! Fitzmagic will take us to the promised land!!!!!

  26. Ndog Says:

So where is Reality and Sweeptheleg? I thought we were going to lose by 30 plus?

  27. Wausa Says:

It’s only one game, but the Bucs have the best receivers in the NFL and its not even close.

  28. Trench War Says:

    Ndog

    they are roaches

  29. The Buc Realist Says:

What was the difference in the game between the Bucs and the Saints????? Coach Smitty pitched the shutout in the 3rd quarter with that duct tape of a defense with all those rookies and new guys!!!!!!!!! The “real” fans stand up and applaud these great coaches we have in Tampa!!!! For out coaching and out scheming the other team with less experienced talent!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Buccfan37 Says:

A Buc fan with a bad heart would of croaked watching this game.

  31. Deminion Says:

Bucs!!! Best weapons in the NFL no contest

  32. firethecannons Says:

    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO RYAN FITZPATRICK AND THE ENTIRE OFFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    AND DEFENSE GOOD TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Defense was not that bad until 4th quarter prevent. Considering there is no tackling in camp, I expected the defense to start off worse.

    Multiple turnovers, Bend don’t break.

Drew Brees is the hardest QB to sack, so I knew getting any would be hard this game.

Brees does what Brees does. Don’t think the defense is better? Bucs lost the lead late in games many times last year to lose games. This defense did not.

We just won a game that odds makers and national media did not believe we could win. Saints were 11-5 last year.

    BELIEVE, TAMPA!!!

  34. January1979 Says:

Still waiting for kobefaker, reality and bucnut to man up after being completely wrong about this game….

  35. NJBucsFan Says:

    Ryan Fitzchise

  36. FairMinded Says:

D will get straightened out but that was “greatest show on turf” territory we saw from the offense. Only reason we didn’t keep airing it out at will was to run down some clock. Absolutely mind blowing. Go Bucs!

  37. unbelievable Says:

Improved o-line play + improved playcalling = offensive success!!!

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Reducing opponent scores by one TD on average will put this team in the playoffs.

  39. Dreambig Says:

The most fun game the Bucs have played in almost a decade. The play calling was maybe the best I have seen as a Bucs fan. They kept their foot the pedal full throttle until the end. That is a game that over conservitive play calling could have easily lost. Great job Bucs!

  40. stpetebucsfan Says:

    NDOG

Exactly. I’m too dang lazy but I’d love some enterprising poster who went to last week’s threads and cut and paste all those predictions of a N.O. rout of the Bucs.

    @JhSpeer5

Again spot on. Drew Brees is an HOFer…Kamara the NFL offensive rookie of the year…Thomas and Ginn at WR. Peyton and Brees have now been together for over a decade.

The ONE thing that disturbed me most is the freaking missed kick that would have clinched the game. We shouldn’t have needed the defense at the end!!!

BTW they didn’t replay it…was that kick deflected or did Catanazoro just choke it wide right…I couldn’t really see for sure.

  41. Doctor Stroud Says:

Bucs receivers had a huge game! DJax over the top is exactly what we’ve been longing for, and the big, tall receivers and tight ends fighting for the ball and winning match ups. Long live the Dunkaneers!

  42. Casual Observer Says:

Jamais couldn’t have done any better than Fitz today. Maybe not as good. Terrific show by the whole O.

  43. Matts17 Says:

Fitz made throws Winston rarely made. That’s the difference.

  44. John Says:

@joe 95% of these people posting are wanting to sell their house and move to New England…don’t listen to this crap lmao……..go Bucs!

  45. Trench War Says:

I hope Jameis is taking notes and learning from watching Fitz. I would love to see him play with all his youth as good as the savvy veteran who showed how you take what the defense gives you rather than trying to force the issue. Not one time did it look like Fitz try to squeeze the ball into tiny holes. He did not take risk while falling backwards. Keep learning Jameis

  46. El_Buc941 Says:

What happened to the Aints being favored 9pts+?!I think the biggest difference for us this year is obviously going to be who calls the plays.Monken is the type that let’s loose.isnt afraid to go hard and thats, well THIS is exactly what happens! As for the defense,we did good,Justin Evans was a beast! We were able to shake up Drew Brees and apply pressure and all that without Grimes! Can’t wait to see what Vita brings to the table. In other news let’s hope desean recovers in time for the Ew-gles. Godspeed Desean!

  47. stpetebucsfan Says:

9 1/2 point spread and we win by 8. Does that makes us 17 1/2 points smarter than Vegas wise guys?

Underneath all of this I though both lines played very well. Certainly some room for improvement on the DL but overall they did the job…basically I thought we controlled both sides of the line of scrimmage physically.

Brees is HOF for a reason and he has weapons as well.

  48. Ed Says:

Is their any coach in the league whose players are dirtier than Sean Payton’s?

Fitzgerald is tough and Saints pass rushers has at least 4 times where they had cheap shots on Fitz after the ball was released. The Bucs offensive line was exceptional in pass protection and Saints were still hitting Fitz.

Beating the Saints is sweet because their defense was playing very dirty.

Not a good sight seeing DJax being slammed to that awful turf.

Great game by Bucs offense, now we see that this team is all offense and defense other than turnovers sucked. Good start, hope Jackson gets through his concussion.

  49. TheDailyAutopsy Says:

Just calming down after taking Xanax while watching the 4th quarter!

  50. Gofortheface Says:

“We have the best receivers in the NFL and it’s not even close.” – provided they have DeSean Jackson. You know, the same guy literally everyone on this site wanted to trade. His speed is what provides that threat and what gives other receivers separation. By the way, he was open like this all last year but Jameis couldn’t connect like how Fitz did today. DeSean is a great player, as well as Evans and Godwin.

  51. Bucamania Says:

Amazing win!!! Still can’t count on the kicker. smh

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

On the topic of Fitz starting beyond GM3, don’t count on it. Fitz has always been spotty from game to game. No way he wins Game 3, but Game 2 is very doable.

That element of surprise I’ve been mentioning for weeks against the Saints caught them totally off guard!

    11-5 her we come!

  53. TheDailyAutopsy Says:

Have to remember in the 4th quarter the Bucs were without Grimes and Hargreaves who was having a goo game.

  54. BucsBandit Says:

Hats off to the O-Line… ZERO SACKS given up!

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bucamania, that field goal was deflected by a player. That’s not the kicker’s fault.

  56. Broy34 Says:

Lakeland, tmax where are you guys. It’s amazing how you guys call yourself fans but when they win u don’t show up. Ur not fooling anyone. The bears last year was different. This was hall of famer at home drew Brees. Not the bears

  57. Tut Says:

People want to b!tch about the defense but don’t want to acknowledge the fact that the defensive touchdown is what ultimately won us the game…

  58. Bob in Valrico Says:

Good playcalling . Great ball placement from Fitz and a very intelligent game.
They tried to involve all receivers. Four TD’s 0 INT’s. Great game by DJAX
and Evans. Evans owned Lattimore and proved he is not just a posession
    receiver.

  59. Brad Isherwood Says:

Did Trump bet on the Bucs?

Lol. …I bet it’s kicking chairs accross the room for a Million who flipped Tampa off a sure loose.

Blackbeard was like that. ….when you least expect it ….expect it!

Just a few turns of the wrench to tighten up the D

  61. Godeep66 Says:

I was right snowflakes. Time to admit it.

  62. LostinPa Says:

Does Fitzmagic have more than 3 games like that left in him? Don’t care, that all we need!

  63. orlbucfan Says:

48-40 sounds like Arena Football. Koetter’s offense started to bloom today, He had Monk up in the press box helping out. Aints had plenty of zeb help. It was a classroom on holding c/o the Aints. 17 point swing–wish I like to bet. I would have made a few $$. 🙂 Eagles’ defense better do their homework. Wish I could be at Ray Jay next Sunday. Hopefully, a hurricane won’t be around. GO MIGHTY BUCS!!!!!

  64. Brad Isherwood Says:

Did Trump bet on the Bucs?

Lol. …I bet it’s kicking chairs accross the room for a Million who flipped Tampa off a sure loose.

  65. Wesley Says:

    Happily eating crow!

  66. Red86 Says:

People who complained about the defense giving up a 48-24 lead have every rights to do so. That was horrible play calling by Mike Smith plain and simple. Sure those turnover and tds came in handy. But great playoff defensive teams don’t give up a lead like that. Mike Smith is literally holding this team back right now.

  67. 1sparkybuc Says:

I can’t wait to see what Jameis can do with this offense. I thought starting Fitz was a mistake. I was wrong. Why can’t we find a dependable kicker?

  68. Buc1987 Says:

    Godeep66…still an idiot…

Jameis is VERY happy with this win too!

Go Bucs Go Bucs Go Bucs!

Stick it in your ear Tmax…lol

  69. Robert Says:

    Bwahahahaha

Told y’all. Fitz is the starter and ubya is updating his resume/rap sheet

    I called it yelled cried.

    Suck it bitches

  70. denjoe Says:

Defense is sh*t! How many times do we have to say get a DESCENT corner for a 4th round pick and save your jobs, you idiots!

  71. Robert Says:

    Good call godweg

Que all the racist calls and saying it was the play calls

  72. Tut Says:

Hi-power offense vs hi-power offense… Our defense won this game by scoring points! Yes, they gave up a lot of points but they scored us points in return and that’s all that matters in the end. We got the W!!!

  73. Jbeachbuc Says:

I think it’s safe to say.. Fitz wants the job 🙃

  74. denjoe Says:

    decent

  75. bigdaddio Says:

    A few comments–
Ryan “Bill Dozer” Fitzpatrick was out of this world. I love the old man strength exhibited on that touchdown run. That’s how you get your team running through brick walls for you, not eating your fingers. Also hitting open receivers on bombs helps too.

Yeah the Saints gashed us good, but we were down 1 CB to start and on the last two drives we lost 2 more I think. Before those losses + prevent style defense we started to figure Brees out in the 2nd half. The defense was physical and the pass rush was good at times. Brees will just often times be Brees. Smith still sucks I believe as all we do is match talent against the other team. Blitzes are unimaginative and late.

I would stack up our receivers (Evans, Jackson, Godwin, Howard, Brate, Humphries) against any other group in the league. We only miss a playmaker RB in the passing game.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

denjoe…it was the Saints to be fair…at home….

In other news….Robert’s thinking about becoming a Bucs fan….

    Never happen.

  77. King C Says:

Finally our offense lives up to its potential!
Now is the exactly right time play Philly bc they don’t have a Brees, Thomas or Kamara
It just hurts to see Derwin James balling out while our No.1 pick is on the shelf.
Sometimes the easy obvious pick is the right pick.

  78. Godeep66 Says:

@buc87: your father should have pulled out. Has JW’s giz not dried off of your skull yet? Come to the other side snowflake coward.

  79. Godeep66 Says:

    JBoo Whoo

  80. Wausa Says:

Buc 1987 I agree with you completely
Sorry you are having to deal with a child on this board

  81. lambchop Says:

Just to put things into perspective, the DL will get better when Vea comes in and I don’t blame them for the poor defensive effort. Drew Brees was able to throw early and often with our CBs being mostly rookies and struggling players impersonating a CB.

If we get some CB help and Grimes back, we can better see how good of bad this D will be. Till then, it’s going to be easy pickings for any NFL caliber QB. We’re going to have to score a lot of points each game if we can’t fix the CB situation. I have faith in the rookies. They will eventually settle in and play better.

  82. BrandonBuc Says:

Can’t believe what I witnessed! Offense was on fire, but unfortunately, Mike Smith will keep us all from getting too much of a high. He is just awful. He will be the first coach fired mid-season. His conservative nature has no place in the NFL anymore. Once he is fired, his future will be freed forever! Guaranteed.

  83. Rod Munch Says:

    God hates male cheerleaders.

  84. Cobraboy Says:

I am concerned about Hargreaves & Jackson.

  85. DBS Says:

Good job fizpatrick !!! But that defense play calling is garbage it’s time to fired Mike Smith. Winston need to run when he have to just like fizpatrick did . But to say he’s better than Winston is just crazy look at the fizpatrick history . He has had good games before but how many bad ones he has that’s why he will not be the starter when Winston come back . Winston have had games like this more than fizpatrick did . So Winston still give us a better chance to win then fizpatrick will through out the season .

  91. John B Says:

I am of the belief JW would had a very similar game – their D is GARBAGE!

We have much more talent but lack cohesion- give all the new guys and rookies couple weeks – we were playing Elliot and Smith by the second quarter at CB the4&5 deep guys –

A tremendous start to the season!!!!!!!

    Yes!

Several years posting this Forum. …yours truly said the Bucs were Chicken neck weak in pre season,
Which was continual injury ride the entire season.

  95. Gambelero Says:

The third biggest question mark, play calling? Answered, controversy over. Second biggest question mark, Oline? Some big penalties, but at least for today, answered. Third biggest question mark, cornerback—two rookies starting? It’s hard to judge DB play just watching on TV, it sure seemed like both guys were straight up balling up until we went Mike Smith 조개 공 in the fourth quarter.

  96. Gambelero Says:

New question mark. Who starts week 4?

  97. ElioT Says:

Defense was hot garbage.that must change.

Thank goodness the offense under Todd and Fitz made up for it by boat racing the Saints in that pos stadium.

    Boom!

    Go Bucs!

  98. Red86 Says:

It really not the cbs fault this game. It’s the playing calling and coaching having them play 10 yards off the wrs on first and 10. Drew Brees had a field days because of that.

It’s simple get rid of the coaches that have those guy play that far off. No cbs should be more than 5 yds away from their assignment on the pre-snap.

  107. Oneilbucs Says:

I still rather have Winston then fizpatrick. He played good I will give him credit. But some of y’all are crazy to think Winston will be traded. Fizpatrick played a couple of good games with the jets but what happen when they really needed him to play good he threw 6ints n miss the playoffs don’t forget that now , he never played in a play off game and he been in league for 13 years, I hope he do well but to think he can get us to the playoffs I don’t know even if the defense plays good . If we go behind by 2 scores we or done . Fizpatrick is not that kind of quarterback that can bring a team back.
