Appalling Take By Scout

September 3rd, 2018

Harsh analysis.

Joe often has high regard for guys who are scouts. They work their arses off largely behind the curtain, are on the road for weeks if not months at a time and go to off-the-map towns to find talent.

But an unnamed scout quoted by Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report has to be employed by the Browns with this ludicrous statement.

Freeman spoke with a scout to give a breakdown on every NFL team and his take on the Bucs focused on one player and one player alone. That would be America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

“This team is a disaster at quarterback. I’d be stunned if Jameis Winston is still the quarterback there next year.”

“Disaster?” Joe is going to guess this guy hasn’t seen good quarterbacking. If Jameis was a disaster, what the hell did this guy call what preceded Jameis at quarterback: Mike Glennon, Stewart McClown, headcase Josh Freeman, Byron Leftwich?

This is either the biggest troll job of troll jobs or someone is simply incompetent at scouting quarterbacks.

Joe is so tempted to type what he heard from someone who would know what was going on with Freeman in the roughly 12 hours leading up the season-opener at the Jets in 2013.

But, yeah, Jameis is a disaster. Right.

Good grief!

    LOL

You never know…………..he’ll be on a 1 yr prove it or lose it deal……no way he gets a long term deal for 2019

  2. thunderchunkyPA Says:

It amazes me that the rip van Freeman story has never been told, and it’s been how many years now? He is out of the league and CFL. As far as Jameis goes, worry about your own franchise Browns.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

If the coaching staff is fired the new regime can still decide to start with Jameis, i would rather see another coaching staff with jameis than Dirk still here with another QB.

  4. Pickgrin Says:

    its a mystery – no one really snows – I mean knows…

  5. Brian Says:

That jet game was a total #$#@ show and was my first away game road trip. I’m begging you to spill the beans on that disaster!

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Never heard of this hack working for the hack Bleacher Report.
You might want to look up who Mike Freeman is. –Joe

  8. AlteredEgo Says:

Is that all just one quote ?….where is the rest of the text…so we no it not not out of context….maybe this scout and others know stuff that has happened or be told about things ….only reason I can think he’d speak so strongly

  9. NJBucsFan Says:

Love the Carl Nassib pick up

  10. Bucfan1988 Says:

Bucs just claimed DE Carl Nassib on waivers. Cleveland let him go yesterday which was pretty shocking. I think this is a good grab!

  11. Pickgrin Says:

Bucs picked up Carl Nassib off waivers from the Browns. Coach him up Buckner!

  12. Iamabuc Says:

Dont worry…..come November, he and all the non-believers, will be eating those words..I trust the process!

  13. webster Says:

    Joe

Why do you feed trolls media/posters so much? I have never seen a website give a damn about the opinions of sheep as much as you do. We all get it. Some think jameis is the son of satan and some like you think he is americas quarterback. How much can you beat a dead horse? You must have other ways to bring revenue to your page. 8 articles a day going back and forth about good jameis or bad jameis opinions is old. You can do better.
Why misrepresent what’s written here. You can do better. Mike Freeman is a respected journalist and columnist, and Joe finds his work worth sharing when appropriate. –Joe

    OR

It just shows how clueless people truly are and will believe whatever is being peddled in the national (and local with agenda) media. Bottom line if Jameis plays anything like he did in preseason when he comes back then we are talking about a top 5 QB in the league no what anyone says including this idiot.

  15. BigMacAttack Says:

50% of the idiots here will agree with him. Should have asked for his JBF screen name.

  16. Bob in Valrico Says:

Oddly enough Jameis stats are eerily similar with Josh McCown last year as was their record. Jameis has looked great in preseason but he has to put it all together this year to hurdle this journeyman QB and 5 or 6 others to play at an elite level.

  17. Lamarcus Says:

What do u know Joe about Freeman?? I want to know

  18. BrianBucs Says:

50% of the idiots here will disagree with him.

Even Vinnie Testeverde lit it up in preseason.

Some very good QB’s will be in the next draft

  19. Ed Says:

Good post by Webster Says. Jameis Winston has only proved in his short NFL career that he is a mid level quarterback who has not made the leap to be anointed a franchise quarterback. Since Winston entered the league Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and DeSean Watson all have shown more poise and athleticism than Jameis. He has singled handedly given away games with fumbles and interceptions.

All the pressure that will be applied on him when he returns is deserved. Anything other than a top ten offense and at least 7-8 wins in his 13 games makes it more likely that he becomes a backup somewhere.

  20. donuts Says:

    Nassib a Buc.

  21. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Doesn’t matter who Mike Freeman is or was. The guy is without question a hack.

  22. Trench War Says:

sorry one more time ..19.1 points per game ain’t exactly elite either

  23. Lamarcus Says:

The team ain’t that good and hasn’t been. It’s so bad that outsiders can close their eyes and make something up and yes it will be some truth to it without even knowing anything about the team Fix it Licht/Koetter/Smith

  24. DB55 Says:

I think he meant to say this team is a disaster at oline and will be surprised if JW sticks around next year.

  25. Bird Says:

    Bleacher report is amazing

    And

    Freeman is not a nobody.

Curious which team the scout is from ?

  26. Bird Says:

Like the nassib pick. I think bucs were linked to him years ago at draft. Good pick up.

    Will Clarke was ehh

  27. stpetebucsfan Says:

Some people including a few posters here are offended by JW morally…so much so that they say what they hope will happen not what they believe will happen based on facts.

I’m soooooo tired of debating the morality questions…but I do think it’s stooopid to let off field disappointment cloud your judgement about on field achievements and potential.

You don’t have to like JW but it’s just absurd to deny his obvious talent. Some here admit his talent but just can’t get past the off field stuff. At least they’re not brain dead.

JW played the best ball of his career the final five games last year. He’s coming off a very successful preseason where he finally appeared to be playing under control without totally giving up the ‘gunslinger” label. He’s ready to rock and roll. That may disappoint those who wish him ill because of his personal transgressions…but it is what it is!

  28. Walter Seidel Says:

Joe, if Winston wasn’t a DISASTER, he’d be with his team and playing. But noooooo….. And the fan base….the HOME fan base is so severely split, it’s incredible. In my(literally) 50 years of following football, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. So yeah…..DISASTER must be part of the conversation. (Now, cue up the personal attacks, including BigDaveAss making crude gay comments.)

  29. Ndog Says:

Walter please don’t run and hide when Jameis comes back and is tearing up the league. Show up and take your whopping like a man.

  30. webster Says:

    @ joe

Not once did i say freeman was not a respected journalist. I was asking how many articles a day can you post by “respected journalist” debating the good/bad jameis? That is old. All the opinion pieces are nothing more than food for trolls and in the end very tiresome. Open up a new bag of tricks. I know you can.

  31. webster Says:

    @ ed

The bucs have had a top 10 offense 2 out of 3 years jameis has been here. Defense is your problem.

  32. Jjones Says:

I’d like to see the whole article, where can we find it Joe?

  33. Tc Says:

You know what they say – opinions are like a-holes everyone has one!

  34. Jjones Says:

    Never mind, found it.

  35. Walter Seidel Says:

Webster…..that is not the point. At all. It’s 90% the PERSON, and only 10% the player. And it’s irrefutable if one looks at this from the sidelines. Like the rest of the nation. Including Cleveland.

  36. Tony Says:

    @Joe

Been visiting these pages for about 8 years and would love to hear that freeman story one day. You have been bragging about the scoop on that faithful night but will we ever get the story?

  37. Joe Says:

Doesn’t matter who Mike Freeman is or was. The guy is without question a hack.

Clearly have no clue who he is. Now if you want to say the scout is a hack, Joe would have to agree.

  38. Broy34 Says:

    Not even worth my time.

  39. Blue-footed booby Says:

Oh, so the national media is indeed souring on Winston and thinking what I’ve been saying here that his starting job as QB of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is not secure for 2019. Oh well, there’s always next year’s QB draft class to look forward to.

I still am amused at those on here who keep proclaiming that Winston will be able to escape Tampa and find another NFL franchise that will name him starting quarterback of their team. There’s only been like, 3 quarterbacks since 2006 who’s been able to hit free agency and immediately get a starting job as QB in Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Kirk Cousins and of course none of those guys were one incident away from a lifetime ban from the NFL like Winston is.

  40. Broy34 Says:

But hey. Garbage play garbage stats Mariota “won a playoff game” franchise QB!!!

  41. Tony Says:

I loved schiano and he did us the biggest favor by dumping freeman. He was a dumpster fire…..

  42. Destinjohnny Says:

    Guys an idiot
    Jameis isn’t a bust
    He just isn’t top 15

  43. SchwiftyBuc Says:

I know exactly who Mike Freeman is. He’s a hack writer for Bleacher report.

  44. louis Says:

Joe, is there anything that says Jameis can’t scout the teams that he will be facing, as a “fan” once he completes his suspension?

  45. Joe Says:

    Louis:

Jameis cannot go or attend or hang with anything or anyone owned, leased or employed by the NFL.

  46. Joe Says:

Not sure why you guys are p!ssed at Mike Freeman. He’s not nor ever has been an NFL scout.

  47. webster Says:

    @ walter

Not sure what point you are trying to debate with me. And no its not 90% the person. If that was the case we would not have the leader in this country that we do. Get off that. My point i was making to joe and not you is all these articles debating jameis worth good or bad daily only feed the trolls like you and joe should not care about opinions of sheep.

  48. mark2001 Says:

Sporting News prediction…1-15…worst team in football. Sounds like there is alot of such talk about there.

  49. theodore Says:

Franchise quarterbacks who haven’t accomplished anything then get suspended for three games are in fact disasters. Once the suspension is over though, Jameis will get his last chance (with the Bucs) and I think he’ll do fine, even great. He’ll be our QB next year.

  50. Kalind Says:

I truly believe Jameis will come back and shock the world. I was beginning to let doubt creep into my mind about him. Then I watched him throw behind a trash OL and to worthless trash like Martino and Wilson and Reedy. And the guy looked like Peyton in his prime. I think he may have turned the corner last year and we were just so bad at everything else..no one noticed.

  51. Godeep66 Says:

@webster aka Napoleon Complex. Now you are attacking Joe. Pretty sad. You attack everyone in which your snowflake view is not shared. Do you ever think that this guy may actually be right???? And you, as usual, wrong??!!??!! Who will you and you fellow snowflakes have a man crush on after he is chased out of town?

  52. mark2001 Says:

One thing I feel pretty certain about…if we don’t go 0-3, and win one or two, there is an ice cubes chance in hell or worse that we finish 1-15. Let’s prove them wrong early and often, guys.

  53. Godeep66 Says:

@webster: if Alex Karras were alive today you would be in timeout for weeks.

  54. webster Says:

    @ godeep

I do not care about the opinion of sheep.

  55. webster Says:

What am i doing? Let me type in the way the idiot godeep can understand. Baaaaaaabaaaaaaaa bbaaaaaaa. Baaaaaa baaaaaaa

  56. Gambelero Says:

Why would a scout spend precious time doing an extensive evaluation of Jameis? The actual fans here have watched through 45 games. How many times did the supposed scout see him play. Agree with Joe, must be from Cleveland where they thought Kizer was “gonna be great” and Mayfield is better than Darnold.

Oh. And the tradecraft is great, really brought the flies.

  57. J Says:

Trade him for 2020 ammo for Tua!

  58. XpfcWintergreen2 Says:

Bleecher Report’s Kyle Newport has the Bucs ranked 29th in their “power ranking” as of August third. We were rated stronger than only the Bears, Dolphins and Colts.

So much for all the talent we have on our current roster. We are still unknown and uprovent to them. On paper we will remain disrespected until we prove ourselves on the field. That’s the way it is.

  59. Godeep66 Says:

Ha ha ha. The clown is at the FSU game tonight. Whatever happened to laying low?

  60. Walter Seidel Says:

That is freaking HILARIOUS!!!! Winston at the FSU game!!!! Maybe he’ll poke a Hokie in the back of his helmet!!!!!!! C’mon people…..let’s be DONE with this CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. SchwiftyBuc Says:

^ You 2 are the real clowns.

  62. Walter Seidel Says:

SchwiftyBuc…..Yep….once again, Winston apologists/defenders resort to the personal attacks. But I understand. It’s the best you can do. Because he’s indefensible. You guys prove it over and over and over and over…..

  63. gilhealy Says:

So Walter, you can personally attack Jameis, but can’t take attacks to yourself. That’s not how it works, d!ckhead. We have to see you and Godeep resort to immature babble nonstop, and you deserve any personal jabs given. You give, and you receive. Pretty simple.

  64. Brandon Says:

The next time I come down to FL i will have to make an appointment to talk to one of the Joes off the record. I have to know, what happened in the 12 hours before the season opener as well as what happened on the team flight back from the London game against the Bears. I know the former Bucs DB coach (Tony Covington maybe) was involved and was the start of the undoing of Raheem.

  65. Walter Seidel Says:

Gilhealy, WINSTON is the subject matter!! HE is FAIR GAME, YOU DICKHEAD!!! lol…..I am laughing my butt off at him saying “you dickhead” !!!! So once again, you guys prove it over and over and over………because you can’t defend the indefensible. Whiners……”don’t disparage America’s Crotchgrabber, or we’ll say nasty things about you!!” LOL…..Go ahead, take another stupid adolescent verbal shot at me. Like I care. And while you’re at it, try using your real name instead of hiding like you do.

  66. Blind Melon Says:

Is it still the off season?

  67. gilhealy Says:

No Walter. You were the subject matter of my post. And to be clear, most of us on this board regard you in a much worse light than Jameis. You’re just a racist, vile, lonely man. My deepest sympathies to any and all relative’s. Now go freshen up. You’ve got more asinine hate to spew. Go get ’em, loser.

  68. Godeep66 Says:

@gilhealy or is that hillbilly? Way to pull the race card snowflake. You do realize that there is no blue in our team colors, but plenty of RED. You may want to start acting like it. Put on the Fox News and get educated on the REAL world.

  69. gilhealy Says:

Godeep, you’re irrelevant. Your opinion means nothing to anybody. I’m sure it’s been like that since birth. You and Walter are the laughing stock of JBF. So keep posting if it makes you feel good. We really shouldn’t pick on you, or Walter. So, like Walter, go freshen up. You’ve got to have a few more juvenile comments to make. Do your best. I know you can do it.
