Teddy Bridgewater Traded To NFC South

August 29th, 2018

New NFC South QB.

This will anger a sect of Bucs fans.

Some myopic Bucs fans who want America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, run out of town, were clamoring for the Bucs to go trade for backup Jets quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in recent weeks.

Well, Bridgewater got traded all right. To the Saints, according to multiple reports.

The deal was consummated today and it appears Bridgewater, so long as his surgically-repaired knee holds up, will be the successor to Drew Brees, 39, in New Orleans whenever he retires.

As for the Bucs fans who wanted AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to throw Jameis out the door and trade for Bridgewater, 25, Joe has an idea where they can buy their Saints jerseys.

Teddy only had a 1yr deal with the Jets. You think NO will try to keep him if Brees has 2 good years left in him?

    Smart move by Saints GM…
    Our GM….not so smart….
Still waiting for a 2nd round draft choice to contribute not names Marpet or Smith.

    @Joe

You made me proud with that statement!

Only an idiot or a troll would want to get rid of Jamies if they are a Bucs fan and they want the franchise to be successful.

  5. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Just count me as part of the camp that wouldn’t be mad or sad if Drew Bree’s blows his knee out against us and we get an easy win vs Teddy.

  6. Trench War Says:

Wherever he has played, he has played well in that time. If he really will be Brees’s successor, then it sucks for us.

  7. TX Bucs fan Says:

Good. If I am correct, they gave away next years first round pick for Davenport. Now a third for Teddy. Tuff draft for them next year perhaps.

  8. Anonymous Says:

lol no pucks left for saints next year but if they can get b
Drew’s successor for a 3rd sounds good or did Brees get hurt an we do t know bout it yet

  9. Wausa Says:

Supposedly there is a good chance the Lions cut Ameer Abdullah.
He looked pretty good the other day against the Bucs backup defense.
I wonder if the Bucs would be interested in him.

  10. Anonymous Says:

Id rather play teddy for years to come over Brees

  11. Joe Says:

Only an idiot or a troll would want to get rid of Jamies .

    Agreed.

  12. Joseph Mamma Says:

Uh oh, this means that Jameis might lose his coveted title of 4th best QB in the NFC South.

  13. Waterboy Says:

Good move by the Jets to get a 3rd rd draft pick out of a guy that they would’ve cut.

  14. Buccernutter Says:

Some dude said on bleacher report that bucs should have traded for bridge and dropped Jameis. I said Jameis is light years better than bridge. I got ripped. This goes to show how out of touch NFL fans are and only repeat what they hear Colin cowherd say.

My mind is blown. People actually believe bridge is better than Jameis. Wow.

  15. Season Is Over Says:

I love how everyone acts like the average person has no reason to dislike Winston. Lol. This new smug group of fans needs a nickname.

  16. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Before I read it I figured the ‘aints since Brees is getting close to the age of dirt in football years. Think something’s been goin on in Nawleans! Only shortsighted people and the village idiots want Bridgewater to replace Jameis. Wasn’t gonna happen anyway. Awwwww po lil henogodeep.66

  17. miken Says:

If you want Teddy, he’ll be a free agent at the end of the year, so why not get him then and save the pick. Although,I guess the saints could get a comp. pick if he leaves.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

saints don’t care about next years picks because they’re in win now mode…..SB or BUST for them…..

I doubt Winston loses that title….teddy has been to the playoffs….along with every other QB in our division….

teddy is still a young franchise QB…..he’s not a back up QB….

congrats TEDDY!!!!…..glad to see you work your way back and you look better than before…..

saints, screw you!!!!….lol…another smart move by your organization….oh boy…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  19. Doctor Stroud Says:

Regardless of who’s better, should JW be the highest paid QB and thus player in the league? Aaron Rodgers just set the market at $134 million for 4 years.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

The NY media is saying they got a 3rd rounder out of the deal… The Saints gave up a 3rd rounder for Bridgewater who only has a one year deal when they could have signed him this offseason and gave up nothing? LOL!

Also any Bucs fan upset by this, do me a favor and go walk out into traffic on 275.

I have to disagree with you all the way around on this. First off we go JPP for a 3rd… If Licht traded a 3rd for a backup qb I would have been pissed. That is a total waste of resources with the 3 QB’s we already have..

As for the continues knocking of Licht I am posting below an awesome article that breaks down positions and their success rate on where they are drafted. 13 years and 2465 players worth of data a very cool break down. You’ll notice based on stats that Licht is in the top tier throughout the draft.

  22. ItsDookie87 Says:

Guess I’m an idiot for wanting my QB to not be a sexual assaulter. Morals > football.

  23. BigMacAttack Says:

Interesting news. You could read all kinds of things into this trade. As said above, is Drew injured. I think he’s only played one quarter this preseason. He sure doesn’t need the money. I know Drew has other interests. He’s a family man and likes adventures. I hate him on the field because he’s the best, better than Brady or Rodgers. Off the field, I love him. He’s an awesome guy and a good family man. When have you ever heard of Drew going astray? He would be a fantastic offensive coordinator. If he does retire after the season I wish him the best and won’t miss seeing him twice a year. Bridgewater isn’t now, not will he ever be, a pimple on Drew’s butt.

  24. BigMacAttack Says:

Is butt forbidden language here? Maybe I should have said ass

  25. mark2001 Says:

I wish Bridgewater the best. But as I understand, his knee was so bad that many in Minnesota didn’t think he would ever come back as nearly the same QB….many never thought he would come back at all. So, as I said, I wish him well in all games but when he is playing the Bucs. NO caught lightning in a bottle with Brees, signed off a major injury. I honestly don’t expect it twice.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Doctor Stroud – There is this thing called a salary cap, and that salary cap has been going up and up and up, so basically whoever signs next is most of the time the new highest paid QB. Because teams can only alot a certain amount to a QB on a team, there is limit on what teams can realistically pay a QB, and that limit is around the same for most team. Saying dumb and boring stuff like, “you’re telling me Jameis is better than _________”, it’s the type of argument a woman makes.

  27. mark2001 Says:

BTW… you guys don’t think that signing Teddy to a new contract wasn’t part of the negotiations between his agent the Saints before they pulled the trigger? I’d imagine there is something in the works.

  28. ben Says:

its,ok,,,Maybe Winston will be traded for a 2rd rounder!!

  29. unbelievable Says:

Man the haters and the idiots have really come out in full force lately.

They must be scared that our team might actually play well this year.

They gotta get all the hate and trolling out of their system before they have to shut up. Or they’ll just change their usernames again. 🙄

  30. Broy34 Says:

Rod munch – exactly. I am so sick and tired of people judging Winston based on the success of other qb’s that don’t have the worst defense, worst run game and for several years a line that sends him running for life 5-10x a game. Sorry mariota has a great line and running game and defense and yet doesn’t even put up half the numbers Winston does—-but hey! Mariota “won a playoff game” mariotas team won the game and mariota almost lost it. He threw a ball that was tipped back into his hands off a defender that he ran in for a score. He also plays in the worst division with football that’s even worse when Luck doesn’t play. I’m truly tired of it. Winston has record breaking numbers for his age and experience but yep let’s send him packing

  31. mark2001 Says:

    From Crazy Cowart…

    Three words…

    Bucs…Jameis or Jameisn’t.

    Titans…Marvelous Marcus Mariotta

    Ouch.

  32. Broy34 Says:

It’s Dookie87- do you have proof he is a sexual assaulter. “The nfl found evidence” really that’s crazy sounds like she had a dash cam pointing towards her crotch that’s convenient

  33. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs have 3 pretty decent QBs & don’t need a 4th. What we could use however is a veteran OLineman, RB & CB. Teddy Bridgewater doesn’t play any of those positions.

  34. Hyper_258 Says:

I’d take Jameis any day of the week! Watch he’s going to be running this league!

  35. Broy34 Says:

Oh I guess “Cowart” said marvelous Marcus. It most certainly must be true. I’m sure a guy who has to cover all sports also has time to watch all 16 Bucs games a year. That’s incredible dedication to his craft. Dude probably hasn’t watched a game in 3 years combined that wasn’t prime time

  36. PanthersSuck! Says:

Sounds like a perfect scenario for Bridgewater and the Saints

  37. Tony LA Says:

I can so easily tell the difference between the two, Joes. And this one is the antagonizing one who many times pushes fans away. You left out the MOST IMPORTANT type of fan, Joe.

I am a true fan who wants Winston to succeed and stay.
I also wanted the Bucs to go after Bridgewater.

    WHY???

Teddy is a massive improvement over Fitz. Anyone who knows even an inkling of NFL history and stats knows how abysmal Fitz has been as a starter, how he has zero playoff appearances and zero big game wins in his career, and how he currently leads the NFL in the number of coaches fired the year after he starts.

But, clearly, the Bucs and their decade run of putridness know a lot more than the seemingly always successful Saints organization.

And just stop with the Ryan Griffin nonsense. That’s a much better placement for the term myopic – a guy who had a few nice moments against NFL 3rd stringers.

  38. Not there yet Says:

Made the most sense for the saints. No one is that worried about him as a quarterback, he’s not on Brees level or even sorry cam Newton for that matter. Bring it on aints

  39. feelthepewterpower Says:

And Bridgewater has done what since coming back? Preseason is one thing, regular season is another Same question goes ti RGIII, what has he done post knee operation(s)?

  40. Pickgrin Says:

This is good news for the Bucs I believe. If Teddy is to be the successor to Brees that is. He’s a decent game manager with talent around him – but Teddy is not a difference maker.

If this is just for 1 year – then the Saints just wasted a 3rd rd pick after already wasting two 1st rd picks for Davenport.

  41. K_Bassuka Says:

I don’t want Jameis run out of town, but would’ve preferred Teddy starting those 3 games instead of garbage man.

  42. Rod Munch Says:

The Bridgewater worship here is hilarious. He’s a backup QB that is an insurance policy for a team that thinks they’re a SB contender, that’s it. They gave up a 3rd rounder in case Brees got hurt, for say 5 weeks, and they needed someone to play and not ruin their season. Unless Brees is leaving, and so far he’s made it clear he has no intention of retiring anytime soon, or Payton has seen a decline in arm strength in Brees in practice and thinks Brees could fall off a cliff the way Manning did, this is purely an insurance policy. Bridgewater has yet in his career to prove himself to be anything special, if he was special then the Vikings wouldn’t have dumped him after they kept him around for so long.

  43. feelthepewterpower Says:

Brees has a history of shoulder issues perhaps why the Saints have elected to run the ball more than ever before. Going to have to stop the run and make Brees uncomfortable in the pocket. Knock him hard a couple of times on the hard turf! …..

  44. Neal Says:

“Still waiting for a 2nd round draft choice to contribute not names Marpet or Smith.” you mean like one named Justin Evans? out of 6 second round picks not including this year, the guy has found 2 solid starters and one elite player. That’s about all you can hope for in the second round, People like Buc’n Enough are whats wrong with the world. You want every little thing to go your way otherwise you cry about it. The dude is doing a great job so far but that’s not enough for you? What about all the solid players he has pulled out of rounds 3-5?

  45. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

He beat us so he can be a pain to us just like their last qb when we 1st realigned forgot his name. They got a great line, receivers and rbs so it’s going to be tough. Like it was said earlier Brees came to them coming off major knee injury and look what happened.

  46. Jeffbuc Says:

Most of you people have no clue what you are talking about. Saying Teddy Bridgewater is some great qb. He started 2 seasons and had a whopping 14 tds in each season. Less than one a game. Barely broke 3,000 one season and had 2,900 the other season. For his career he has 28 tds and 22 interceptions. And has a mutilated knee that is one sack away from his career being over. Jameis has played one more season than teddy but yet has 41 more touchdown passes than teddy. And 6,500 more yards. It’s not even close morons. Jameis is by far the superior quarterback.

  47. Jeffbuc Says:

David big bucs fan 99 Brees did not have a major knee injury when he came to saints he had a shoulder injury to his throwing shoulder. The dolphins passed on him to sign culpepper who blue out his knee the season before and he was never the same. Bree’s also threw 27,and 24 tds each season before leaving the chargers and 3,500 yards a season when 3,500 was still a huge number. So like it was said earlier someone was wrong Brees didn’t have a knee injury nay sayer. People will say anything to be negative even if it is just made up. Simple google search will help with any info you need. I hope they lock Bridgewater up and he is there long term qb. A weak armed qb who can’t throw downfield will be great to go against twice a year.

    Wow. Just wow.

Of the three years he has drafted that have played in the regular season, you eliminated 2 of the 3 from consideration.

I’m truly biting my tongue here in order to not say something offensive.

  50. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I was against trading anything for Teddy Bridgewater, but I did think he’d make a decent backup.

However, Joe’s claim that Teddy ‘will be the successor to Drew Brees’ is probably way, way off base.

Bridgewater has a lot to prove before that happens, and he will not have many opportunities to do it before Brees retires.

  51. Lord Cornelius Says:

I wanted us to draft Teddy when he came out. Was a fan of his game.
I also really liked Mike Zimmer back when that was an option.

That said Teddy hasn’t really ever done more than be a game manager but he also hasn’t had to do much more than that due to how nice his set up has been compared to Winston. Not a lot of 4th quarter wins / clutch performances / big games really.

Dude went 11-5 while only throwing 14 TDs his last full 16 game season with an 88.7 QB rating.

By comparison in 2017 Winston threw 19 TDs with a 92.2 QB rating despite a hurt shoulder while missing 3 games and his team ended up 5-11.

Just more obvious evidence of how much this is a team game

  52. Kgh4life Says:

Teddy Bridgewater was a solid QB when he was healthy, however, his ceiling is not that high, i mean in Minnesota he was only a game manager: he had an elite running game and a top ten defense, he just had to take care of the football and he did a great job doing that. My question is can he actually take over a game when it matters most?

  53. Bucn' Enough Says:

    Bonzai,

The point I was making is:

2nd rounders…AT THE TOP OF THE FRICK”N DRAFT…these are not late round picks.

    2nd Rounders

    ASJ 2nd round …waste
    Aguayo…nuff said
Spence…jury still out ….entering his 3rd year…not the impact player they were hoping for
    Evans…possible impact player

    1st Round question marks
    Hargreaves…jury still out
    Vea …jury still out…

5 of 6 players drafted near the top of the draft…all not major contributors..certainly not contributing to the level of Marpet or Smith.
    I know they need time…

Well five years of Lichts “management” have yielded a worse record than the Rock Star… please.

You guys can claim it was Lovie or Dirk…he is accountable…he has ignored gaping roster holes or shortages year after year …

I have supported this team since ’76….and will continue to do so, but I will not except the “he is doing a great job” theory…so was the captain of the Titanic!

Neal…tap the brakes dude, there is much worse things going on in the world than a comment on the Buc’s…chill..its just another opinion….oh wait…your opinion is the only one that matters…

  54. Blue-footed booby Says:

Winston is now the 6th best quarterback in the NFC South, behind Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Teddy Bridgewater, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Oh well.

Yeah yeah, I know there’s the Winston defenders who will lambast me for saying that, but I just recently saw on Walterfootball site that they had America’s ATM machine ranked as the 29th best starting quarterback, and worst among all NFC quarterbacks on their list, which is of course what I’ve been trying to say here throughout the offseason.

    Chill.

  56. stpetebucsfan Says:

Someone mentioned the next guy to sign at QB will be very rich.

Well I’m up in Packer land and the “next” guy has arrived!

The Pack just signed Aaron Rodgers to a record four year 134 million dollar deal!

If the QB market is going to go crazy at least a team got it right with this one.
I understood the Falcons resigning Matty Ice but that’s a lot of money for a very good QB. Rodgers is not very good…he’s great..and at the moment with Brady’s age I consider him the best currently playing.

But I am the optimist and I think JW has a chance to reach that plateau. This PS was the best, most poised I’ve seen JW play. He’s going to have a great season and then we can start the discussion about his true ceiling.

Two optimistic thoughts tied to one sad “event”. Because of his Arizona adventure and three game suspension it appears JW is finally getting it and has grown up. In addition because of that “incident” JW may end up needing to give a discount to the Bucs if he plans on any long term deal.

I simply did not nor do I presently see any QB I’d rather have than JW when he has his head on straight.

We do NOT need another QB….Fitz has played well..a solid backup to JW and Griffin may be a starting QB one day in this league…he may end up like Garapolo.

  57. ItsDookie87 Says:

People are not less of a fan for wanting Winston gone, they are not idiots or trolls. Many people, like myself, backed Winston out of college with the extremely low bar of not sexually assaulting someone again. It’s not like sexual assault accusations are running rampant in the NFL today and Winston is just another target. This is the second sexual misconduct accusation against him and false accusations are extremely rare, not to mention multiple accusations. It’s unacceptable of anyone and especially of the “leader” of this team. I understand that Winston is the best QB on the roster and probably the best QB of this franchise but that doesn’t matter to me. I want this team to win as much as the next guy but I don’t want to give up my morals to do it. You guys can clutch to the idea that only charges matter but that’s so small minded. He’s innocent until proven guilty in the court of law but not in the court of public opinion. He should have been released as soon as the NFL concluded it’s investigation and determined that he violated the conduct policy.

  58. Bucamania Says:

    Teddy for a 3rd? Bwahahahaha

  59. Brandon Says:

so I might have been the first one on this page to say that we should trade for Teddy Bridgewater. I wanted them to do it as insurance for when Winston was out but also to make sure we had a quarterback going forward next year. so the Saints and Sean Payton gave up a third-rounder for him, And that somehow makes me look stupid? so one of the greatest offensive Minds in recent NFL history thinks Bridgewater is worth something and somehow that makes me the stupid one?

  60. Jim Says:

  61. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

JeffyBuc ol boy I’m so sorry I offended your sense of correctness. I was wrong about his injury just going on what I thought I remembered. I wasn’t being negative but warning these guys not to be so self assured that Teddy can’t compete. The Saints have a great offense and if you check Google you’ll see he DID beat us and that’s not negativity it’s realistic. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me???😍😍😘

  62. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

  63. THETRUTH Says:
