Offense Being Pushed

August 1st, 2018

Iron sharpens iron.

Just judging by what DeSean Jackson had to say yesterday, it seems Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had the right mindset in the offseason.

Licht believed the Bucs needed a collective attitude adjustment. Sort of a kick in the rear as a team. So Licht went out and got guys with reputations for being grinders — and winners.

Three Super Bowl champs on the defensive line were acquired, and they added a center used to the brawls and wars of the AFC North, the most physical division in the NFL.

That seems to be paying off the way Jackson spoke yesterday. He was asked what is the difference in the offense from last year and Jackson noted the newcomers are forcing the Bucs to raise their game.

“We have a lot more competitive players now,” Jackson said. “A lot of new additions coming from winning mentalities. They’re able to push the drive and push other guys on this team to the highest of their potential. I think that’s the first and foremost thing, just the competitive nature, guys working harder and putting the work in.”

Licht had always talked about wanting to get nastier and that may be the case. So Joe is guessing Licht wanted the newcomers to do just what Jackson claims they are doing.

Given how people are noticing how the three new defensive linemen have basically turned into assistant coaches, offering tips and advice to whoever will listen, and are pushing everyone to improve, maybe just maybe this is a stroke of genius by Licht?

Of course, this is all warm and fuzzy talk. As Jackson added, now the Bucs have to turn this into wins on Sundays.

well, he brought in winner players….next year, he’ll bring in winning coaches(harbaugh, schwarts, manuel)……

sad that the players have to pull double duty and coaches as well…..what ever happened to players play and coaches coach?…….

The Bucs have come such a long way!!!!!!! Just a few seasons ago was the incompetent lovie debacle ( back when he kept the offense a national secret )!!!! his antiquated, obsolete defense scheme actual made the offense look like it could work until it was exposed and the world found out lovie and the Bucs were the worst out of the entire league!!!! The very bottom of the barrel!!!!!!!

As The “real” buc fans knew, the Bucs worked to fix the “real” problem!!!! The roster!!!!!!! Now we can see if the coaches can over come the jw3 setback and the obvious holes on the roster!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the coaches failed to realize the defense sucked last year?

    Apparently comprised of non-competitive losers.

Ok, lets hope that is fixed now and all.

One advantage this year is Fitz knows he will start the first three games and he is getting a lot of first team reps he didn’t get before he was thrown in the fire last year and he still won 2 of 3 with a lousy OL and lacking a running game. The OL is better this year and we will have a running game and a good place Kicker. We have a much improved Defense too and in scrimmages thus far the Offense is holding their own. Even Jameis seems to have settled down and is playing a lot better too. This should be a team that is competitive this year and at least worth watching. Load the cannons!

it amazes me how “fans” continue to talk about a coach and his mistakes that havent been here in 3years but refuse to talk about the mistakes, hic ups, bad play calling, lack of adjustments, lack of creativity, etc. that the current HC has done….

luckily, it wont last too much longer…..

“The OL is better this year and we will have a running game and a good place Kicker”

Is it? Our RT is over the hill and coming off injury, our center played exactly 1 full season at a high level, and who exactly is our starting RG?

I hope they are improved, but I see no evidence of that being the case yet unfortunately.

DJ is saying all the right things considering he is stealing from this team. He will be gone next year and then blame Koetters offensive play calling as his demise. He thinks JW is a whack job….just take a close look at the “eating W’s” footage and the look in DJ’s eyes. I cannot wait until next year’s draft.

What does everyone think about bringing Sweezy back on a reduced contract? That may give us a little needed depth.

About time. Although sometimes you gotta draft or sign the free agents who are available, we’re finally seeing the Bucs put their money where their mouth is by drafting and signing free agents to beef up the trenches. It all starts and ends in the trenches and you have to be strong up front on both sides of the ball. As I said, about time.

  14. m0j0 Says:

The defense is definitely going to be improved, and it is forcing the offense to up their game in practice, which should result in them being a more polished, more consistent offense once the season starts.

    Stroke of genius?

    a competitive camp?

Nobody has ever thought of that before…..

@DJAX … “We have a lot more competitive players now. A lot of new additions coming from winning mentalities. A LOT MORE COMPETITIVE PLAYERS NOW? GUYS WORKING HARDER? Wow!!! Not necessary to read between the lines there. Pretty clear that DJax believes that this year’s team has a LOT more TALENT and COMPETITIVE NATURE than last year’s team. Now they need to translate all that into more WINS and fewer LOSSES.

  17. Gruden4President Says:

We are definitely a much improved team specifically in the trenches. We have the talent and the youth an its up to the coaches to get the most out of that talent. Dotson may be getting old but he is still a top performer at his position. I think 9-7, 10-6 is absolutely doable. And with 1 more successful draft and free agency we will be set for years to come
