Monster Game, Preseason For McCoy

August 24th, 2018

Sets up touchdown and more

If you add it up, Gerald McCoy has played 4 1/2 quarters of preseason football. And you could make a great case he’s on pace for NFL Defensive Player Of The Year.

Hey, pipe down. What’s wrong with some unbridled optimism?

McCoy had a huge sack tonight of Matthew Stafford to stomp out the Lions’ drive at the end of the second half. On 3rd-and-five at the Bucs’ 37 yard line, McCoy beat his 1-on-1 from the left defensive tackle position and took down Stafford for a seven-yard loss.

That led to the Lions’ 61-yard field goal attempt, the one that landed in Adam Humphries’ hand and was returned for a 109-yard touchdown. Mr. McCoy, you get an assist.

McCoy ended his 2018 preseason with two sacks and five solo tackles, and his trademark get-off looks as nasty as ever.

Just maybe, this is the year McCoy stays healthy, gets help, and has that special year that makes him an instant Hall of Fame candidate.

Howard read this post to the old lady next door.
She said, ” Oh Lawdy! Them GMC trolls ain’t gonna be happy with this write up one bit. Prolly talk about how he shines in meaningless games…

…well……. my pot roast is done and I gotta run…..toodaloo!”

  2. Pryda... sec147 Says:

Instant HoF needs to get us to playoffs maybe 10 sacks

  3. Dave Says:

You are absolutely right. He has looked great. The haters will still hate. They’re just ignorant pseudo football fans.
The whole D line has looked pretty good all preseason.
I’ve been impressed with the corner back play across the board for the Buccaneers this preseason
I hope it carries over to regular season

  4. BigMacAttack Says:

Man I hope you’re right because after spending $100k on him it’s time for results

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

    $100m 😂

  6. Lamarcus Says:

Is what you SHOULD expect every game???….. These articles are counterproductive. SMH.

He is just a 100 million dollar player. Now, if a article comes out Gholston being Comeback player of year …Now that is newsworthy

  7. Rod Munch Says:

    McCoy is a pro-bowler every year for a reason….

But dummies don’t like him because he smiles too much. LOL!

  8. DB55 Says:

The sack was nice but OCs are still running right at him and he’s having trouble beating double teams. Gotta go 110% on every play not just money downs.

  9. Joel Says:

    Stays healthy? Hahahahahahaha!!!!!

    Still takes plays off.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

    Howard Cosell…..I laughed.

    Idk anymore….where’s the love?

  12. Buc1987 Says:

    Nvrmind…it didn’t post at first….luv ya!

  13. feelthepewterpower Says:

He also had a crunching hit on Stafford that Stafford did not like, but who cares. Love seeing Mccoy being nasty out there and letting the qb know he’ll be in their grill all game long

  14. orlbucfan Says:

GMC played like the late LeRoy Selmon who he reminds me of. Hopefully, FINALLY he will have some long overdue help on either side of him!! Go Bucs!!

  15. ATrain Says:

McCoy Lovers talk to me after we get into games that mean something

  16. Buc believer Says:

Why do you suppose Arians was so effusive in his praise of GMC? Seriously not snark. Arians went out of his way to send love to GMC for his career and his talent and play. Arians is just one of virtually all NFL types who say this.

Does GMC have dirty pics on Arians and the other NFL experts? Arians not worried about facing GMC since he’s no longer coaching…most importantly he didn’t have to say ANYTHING.

I like you and you’re obviously an intelligent guy…liked TMAX as well although I wouldn’t place him on your intellectual level. I honestly do not understand all the negative hyperbole about GMC. NO he’s not Aaron Donald much less Warren Sapp….but he’s a talented and effective player. Don’t believe me just listen to all the guys who actually work in the NFL.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

    St Pete,

Maybe it’s just something to say, Especially for new talking heads like Arians.

You’re right they all say the same thing, almost like its a canned response. I don’t get into the GMC fray much, but I will say that I don’t remember a lot of games where he has taken over and been the dominant player everyone talks about.

Maybe his job is just to get double teamed and someone else makes the play, except they don’t?

Sapp, Donald, Geno Atkins and the like seem to do both. Stop the run on the way to the QB.

  19. DB55 Says:

    SPBF

That’s the best compliment I could muster up. Lol.

I thought the job of a 3tech was to beat double teams and sack the QBs but wtfdik? Stop lowering the bar for him, he’s a $100m guy who some expect/think is a bonafide hof’er.

To whom much is given much is expected. Truth be told expecting him to stop the run when OCs are constantly running right at him shouldn’t be far fetched. It is his job and he gets paid well to do it.

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

GMC is the Doug Martin of defensive tackles. One minute he’s lights out and the next he’s blown out. But he has so much ability and I hope he has a 20 sack season and shuts down everybody. If he can’t do it with these guys around him, he never will.

  21. Realbucfan941 Says:

DB you really think the job if a 3 tech is to beat double teams??! Really dude? You’re making spit up. That’s what the nose is for. To take a Double team, anchor, and let the 3tech beat his man and shoot the gap. Just like he did. Not many players in league history consistently beat double teams. So wtfdyk? Apparently not much..

  22. Realbucfan941 Says:

    Of

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Ooff RealBucFan why you hit so hard!!?? The GMC hate actually makes no sense. They expect him to be Sapp when he’s not. How do these people know he takes plays off? They’re not on the field and don’t have coaches film just flapping off with the fingers to justify their hate. He played how long thru a bad injury? Yet they call him soft and other names on this internet board. Real tuff guys up here. He makes $100 million so what? What’s that got to do with them? They didn’t pay him so their opinion don’t count. The Glazers chose to pay him all that loot so they’re getting their money’s worth.
