Evans On Playing With Two QBs

August 14th, 2018

Talks quarterbacks.

To Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans, it is no big deal.

The Bucs, at least through the first four games (if they are smart), will have two different quarterbacks. One will be America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, who will serve a three-game sentence from NFL strongman Roger Goodell. Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick will start the first three.

As a result, Fitz is getting lots of work with the first team. So when the heralded radio hosting duo of Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller broadcast “Movin’ the Chains,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, live from One Buc Palace Saturday, Evans was asked if essentially playing with two quarterbacks is screwing up the receivers.

Evans thought that was a bunch of nonsense.

“It is a little different,” Evans confessed. “But as a receiver, we really don’t care. Just run your route and get open. I just control what I can control. We’re very fortunate to have Fitz. He’s an experienced guy — I think he’s been in the league 14 years? That’s a lot of experience.”

Kirwan marveled at Evans’ answer about just running routes and getting open. “Why can’t all receivers have that attitude?”

What Evans said wasn’t much different than what Cam Brate told Joe earlier in training camp; receivers and tight ends are used to Bucs coach Dirk Koetter changing quarterbacks on almost every play. So receivers don’t often even know who will be quarterback on a particular snap, therefore, it shouldn’t be a big deal when the regular season kicks off.

Sheet. Evans could be traded after the first game of the season and still get his 1000+ yards. As for lack of YAC, he makes a lot of difficult catches and makes sure only he ends up with the ball.

  4. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Hopefully winston and Evans can escape the black hole that is Tampa bay Buccaneers football and have a shot at success. It must really suck for Evans knowing 4-12 is about all you can hope for with career losers, mentally weak defensive captains and no organizational leadership in charge.

    @ Beotch

Still got that giant Mack Truck-sized corn cob up your a$$? And I think its moving…..

  6. OneBuc55 Says:

Unlike a guy like Kelvin Benjamin, Mike Evans is what I like to call a QB friendly receiver…

He’s a hard working receiver thats big, scrappy, and flat out die hard…screw the YAC stats Mike Evans is a top 5 receiver in my book…And what I love most about him is the fact that he isn’t a diva like must of the guys that play that positon…

  7. Pryda... sec147 Says:

Who cares about the yac I want those TDS like rookie season but better it’s possible mike you’re so gifted!!!!

  8. German Buc Says:

@ OB55: Mike Evans was always a stud. He even made his college QB looking extremely good so that particular QB got drafted early (#22). With Kelvin Benjamin, it’s a different story. His college QB in 2013 made him look good so the receiver was drafted #28 in 2014.

  9. Godeep66 Says:

We won with Brad Johnson, Fitzpatrick is an upgrade from him. We lose with JW, Ryan Leaf is an upgrade to him.

  10. TX Bucs fan Says:

@Godeep that is seriously the stupidest post I have seen, even from you. Ryan Leaf? Don’t go deep, go away.

  11. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Tx Bucs fan,

It’s not worth arguing with a guy who doesn’t like Jameis because he’s not “articulant” (https://www.joebucsfan.com/2018/08/florio-four-games-theory/#comments). I seriously couldn’t make this stuff up lol.

  12. OneBuc55 Says:

    @German Bucs

Let’s not forget he got 1000+ yards receiving and 12 TDs with Josh McCown as his QB…

2014 was supposed to be the best receiver class in the history of the draft; 4 years later we see that wasn’t the case…That being said, I think the Bucs got the best one of the bunch…

Most people may say that Odell is better, but imo he isnt; not to mention, Odell is the definition of a diva that requires a lot of maintenance…Pass!

Joe…you should have an special archive for dumbest posts ever.

Godeep has never been deep, which explains his obvious frustration.

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

RiaB- You are single-handedly the strangest Bucs “fan” I have ever seen. On occasion, you should try some positivity. After all, isn’t that what ‘Colorado Recreational’ is all about?!

Godeep66- Even the most jaded fan thinks that’s the dumbest statement ever!

OneBuc- I’ve always thought Evans was better than Odell. He had the dropsies that one year but he has been consistent throughout. He will easily surpass any Buc WR in terms of statistics. Now….about those wins!

Good players can play with anybody.

’87, if Joe would put a thumbs up and thumbs down button on each of these posts, one could look them up at the end of the year for the winner of STUPID. But then someone like Godeep would probably love that.

btw, good to have you back

Evans is great at the first two… he still needs work on the last one.

    ATTENTION JOE!!!

This is a great idea….a like button or thumbs down button for posts……would get a ton of extra clicks and would create some interaction with readers-non-posters.
    ….Interaction…..always a good thing…..think about it Joe.

Maybe the post of the year!!!

  21. Trench War Says:

I think the only real difference would be if you had a lefty with opposite spin.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

I wouldn’t say it’s Evans entire fault he doesn’t get YAC. Often don’t see him getting down field post route with a perfect lead pass. It’s always a 10-15 yard hook and that’s hard for a huge, lengthy guy to turn around and just turn on the guns. Same situation when he has to go up for the ball.

  23. JimmyJack Says:

Mike has got a lot of work to do. He’s got the ability to be in the very top tier of WRs in this league. The easiest way he gets there is with Wins……..or get traded to NY.

He could have done more last year…….I know that sounds like asking a lot but that’s just how tough it is to be in that top tier group.

  24. GhostofSchiano Says:

Does anyone know if the corner back that muffed the Vikings tackle at the end of that game the same one that had the altercation with Evans and Winston last year?

If so there is going to be some serious trash talking in game one.
