Dungy Addressed Bucs For 20 Minutes

August 14th, 2018

Father Dungy is in the house at One Buc Palace today for his afternoon news conference regarding his induction into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor next season, including attending practice.

Last year, Dirk Koetter hosted Jon Gruden for the same kind of thing, and Koetter talked about how Gruden and he spent well over an hour together talking football.

Koetter didn’t have much to say about Dungy and their relationship (if there is one) after practice, other than to praise Dungy’s accomplishments.

Koetter did say Dungy spent 20 minutes addressing the team this morning, but Joe didn’t get any standout feedback from players on what was discussed.

If I had to take a guess, I’d say TD imparted more wisdom in twenty minutes than has been imparted in years…..

  2. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Not according to some imbeciles up here Jmarkbuc. The MOST RESPECTABLE COACH WE EVER HAD WHO FINALLY MADE THE BUCS RELEVANT AND WAS A BIG PART OF OUR SUPERBOWL WIN, but some cornballs up here still try to diminish and denigrate what he did for this franchise. Showing us the class of fans we have.

  3. Jmarkbuc Says:

    I hear you David..

    I expect Tmax-is-a-blotch any minute now…..

  4. Bradentonbuc Says:

He should have been in before Gruden

  5. 813bucboi Says:

well last year gruden told them the key to success is pound the rock….obviously dirk was sleeping during that convo…..

this year tony probably told the team, “hang in there, hang in there”, with a huge smile on his face…..lol….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  6. BucNole Says:

Well I will always love the man for what he did for my team. . . and always cus his stubbornness and short sighted coaching. . . .I feel the window was open for more than 1 SB at the time. . . . He managed very little in that regard even when he had Tom Moore as OC and PEYTON EFFING MANNING. . . . Im sure other fans in Indy feel the same way about that

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Bucnole

    Just three things:

Jon Gruden inherited a generational defense, and won one Superbowl

Check the statistics, Grudens offenses were only very slightly better than Dungy’s. very slightly.

Grudens stubbornness in bringing in washed up over the hill players and a sycophant GM is still costing us to this day.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Cue Tmax…..

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Both Gruden & Dungy were good for Bucs……Dungy got us to multiple playoff games but couldn’t win…..Gruden got us to the SB & won…..what’s not to like about either of them compared to all the other coaches we’ve had.

  10. D-Rome Says:

tmaxcon as his alter-ego to comment on “Dungy the clown” in 3…2…1…

  11. Tom Edrington Says:

    Tony to the team:

    Listen fellas:

    No fighting

    No cussing

Jameis, please be home by 5 p.m.

  12. Not jason Light Says:

According to multiple coaches including Monte Kiffen, Dungy cost the bucs min 2 super bowls. His lack of offensive knowledge and loyalty blinded him. Took greatest qb of all time for him to finally win it. This is fact not opinion!

  13. SOEbuc Says:

People always talk Dungy and Gruden. No one ever mentioned Monte? He was amazing d coordinator for one of the top five defenses in NFL history. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE NAME KIFFIN IN THE RING OF HONOR SOME DAY.

  14. SOEbuc Says:

    Tom Edrington

No kneeling unless you’re praying to only Jesus.

Ban your kids from your household if they are gay.

  15. donuts Says:

Tony is the finest man to ever walk through the doors at 1 Buc. Any fan with negativity against TD never met TD.

  16. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Soebuc

Absolutely agree re: Kiffin in ROH…Best DC ever.

He was teaching Tony’s Defense. Tony had multiple number one D’s in Minnesota before he hired Monte.

Tony put together a great staff top to bottom . Some would argue not so much offensively…but he did take a moribund franchise to the playoffs..repeatedly

And again, as far as points scored, his offenses were right there with offensive genius Gruden. I appreciate that Jon provided enough juice to get us over the top.. Tony was a far better coach IMHO.

  17. Eric Says:

Sure am glad the Glazers listened to you great fans and got rid of those losers Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden.

Let us enjoy all the great seasons and accomplishments since their departures.

    Thanks.

  18. Fartman Says:

I bet Tony told them they just have to execute better.

  19. SOEbuc Says:

[That’s a bit over the top. Joe has never seen nor heard of Tony Dungy “disavowing” one of his children. — Joe]

  20. SOEbuc Says:

    donuts

TD is by far not the “finest man” to walk into OBP.

  21. jmarkbuc Says:

According to Ira’s podcast Dungy’s team scored MORE points than Gruden’s

    oops..my bad

  22. Fartman Says:

Whats the over/under on the week that the “Tony Dungy to Tampa” rumors start?

  23. Dewey Selmon Says:

Don’t forget Sam Wyche, drafted Sapp and Brooks and got Nickerson to come here.

  24. teacherman777 Says:

    Guice was the pick!!

Who cares if he is a wild man!

We have “twinkle-toes” Charles Sims at RB!

And now, Ronald, “no hands” Jones.

How could anyone see Guice’s highlights in the SEC, and not want an absolute Hammer like him??

    He runs nasty!!!

Beast Mode was the most dominant back of the past decade.

Anybody notice how the Seahawks have sucked since he left?

Look, I respect good guys and angels too. But sometimes, in the NFL,

    You need some baaaad mother*******!!!

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Koetter is not the type of coach to focus on other coaches who are not on the team. Remember Hard Knocks when Gruden popped into the QB room? Koetter pretty much ignored him, other than a comment after Jon left.

I don’t think its a lack of respect…more like Dirk gets laser focused and hates being distracted.

I’m the same way when I’m writing. I hate it when someone distracts me.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    teacherman777 Says
    “Guice was the pick!!”

The same Guice who is already out for the season and won’t play a regular season game until 2019?

  27. David Says:

Here we go again! I have to listen to all of the same old White Trash so called experts in the Tampa Bay Area wasting their time taking about Washed Up Never WAS Has-Been COACH in Good Old Anthony Dungy. A man so smart he goes on NBC Sun. Night Football and speaks nothing but “CRAP UP HIS ASSSS!”. Not me Folks, as the TRUE VOICE of REASON, I Take CHUCKY GRUDEN any time. The BEST Football TV Man since the late Al DeRoglates of NBC of the AFL days withCurt Goudy. Remember, CHUCKY Got his SB ring here in 2002, and Dungy was Looking like a Little Man Fool in INDY with “ perfect” Payton Manning. Just ask Bucs COO Brian Ford about me, he knows all of the Media Jack Assesss, can’t hold a Jock Strapp to ME! David Corcoran, Winter Park, Fla.

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ll give Dungy credit. When he was here, Teams were afraid of our DEFENSE.
They would knock you on your A.. and smile.

  29. Schlomie BarmitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

Dungy’s teams couldn’t score a single touchdown against the Eagles in multiple playoff games. Bye, Bye, adios. Btw, the new uniforms are atrocious.

  30. Eric Says:

“multiple playoff games” (and a Super Bowl thrown in) vs. Zero for ten years after Dungy/Gruden

vs. 15 years no playoffs before Dungy/Gruden.

Yet the goobers still howl with no respect or appreciation.

    Sad.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

The glazers desiccated the Ring of Honor when they decided to induct Dungy for the Steelers game so the Steelers fans can cheer for him too since he was a former Steel Curtain member.

That is a spit in the face to your home fans IMO. Easily one of my top 5 worst decisions of the Glaziers have ever made. I know you all will disagree just my opinion.

  32. Destinjohnny Says:

I wish he was our coach

  33. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Listening to a hypocritical clown with a career losing playoff is exactly what the basement champs needed…. what a joke. the legend of dungy surpassed his actual accomplishments long, long ago… that bum is nothing more than the definition of mediocrity with post season failure after failure as topping. No one wasted more hall of famers on 2 separate franchises thsn dungy the clown

  34. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Jimmy Jack that was all for Tony Dungy because he had played for them, it wasn’t desecrating the Ring they were honoring his accomplishments as a player and a coach.

Dewey and that’s all he did. Dungy, Monte and Rod Marinelli turned them into the players they became.

  35. JimmyJack Says:

David…..Please tell me what Dungy playing career has to do with the Buccaneers Ring of Honor? That’s right, nothing. That Ring of Honor is soley designated for achievements made in Tampa Bay. Nothing more or less.

Mentioning his playing days during the induction is warranted.

But the Glazers have sold out and given an incentive to get more Steelers fans into our stadium. It’s our Stadium and our Ring. What the Glazers have done is bush and I take personal exception. In fact if anyone wants my Eagles ticket let me know. but unlike the glazers I would do everything in my power to make sure that ticket went into the hands of a fan that will wear red to the stadium.

  36. Godeep66 Says:

He spoke a lot about how children in the community look up to the players and how they watch EVERYTHING they do. Great shot at JW, who needs it. He also made it very clear that he is not sure if JW will ever mature.

  37. GhostofSchiano Says:

I’ll take one Dungy over all the Koetters, Smiths (lovie and Mike) Schiano’s, Morris’s this team has bungled through.

  38. rrsrq Says:

These fans, whew. TD made this team NFL relevant, the Bucs are currently ranked 32 in some power polls, 32. Even in TDs worst years that would’ve never happened and this is year 3 for DK. I’m not saying that the team is that bad, but they get no respect.
TD brought this team to the community of Tampa, that’s why you get a Brooks to get NFL Man of the Year and all the other players that gave back to the community and yes wins, that happened to. I agree that window would’ve loved to see more championships but we were not playing teams that were slouches. Respect the man who brought respect to Tampa Bay and the Bucs.

  39. Jmarkbuc Says:

    David from winter park.

    Stay in freakin winter park

    Jack ass…..
