Pro Football Hall Of Fame Adds Ira Kaufman To Prestigious Seniors Selection Committee

July 24th, 2018

“The Sage,” Ira Kaufman, gets more juice at the Hall

Joe is pleased to break this news befitting the Sage of Tampa Bay sports, columnist Ira Kaufman.

Earlier this month, the Pro Football Hall of Fame added Kaufman to its prestigious nine-member Seniors Selection Committee. Kaufman already has participated in the early process of whittling down the list of non-modern-era nominees for the 2019 vote on “senior” candidates.

The honor does not change Kaufman’s status as the lone Tampa Bay area representative voting annually on potential Hall inductees, and presenting them when applicable.

Congrats to Ira!!

Kaufman began covering the NFL as a New York Giants beat writer in 1979, before relocating to cover the Buccaneers in 1985.

After Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl victory, the late Tom McEwen of the defunct Tampa Tribune retired and Kaufman took over his Hall duties for the Tampa Bay market. “The Sage” is now in his third year as a busy columnist/podcast icon for, and the Ira Kaufman Podcast has been ranked in the top 50 of the Google Play “top charts” for podcasts of all genres across the United States since October 2017.

Those who listen to today’s episode (coming later) will hear more about this honor — and the member of the Buccaneers family who is already celebrating.

Nice! I was there with my two youths earlier this month! It’s quite the place. When you turn the corner from the hallway to the room with all the busts it’s just awesome. Anyone who calls them self a football fan owes it to themselves to go.
