JPP Passing Out Wisdom

July 28th, 2018

Early impact.

The Bucs defensive line is a work in progress. And that comes from possibly the biggest addition to the Bucs defensive line since Simeon Rice was signed as a free agent.

That would be defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. The Bucs traded for the top shelf pass rusher in the offseason and JPP hinted with so many new players added this spring, the line is learning from scratch.

“We are creating chemistry,” JPP said. “Everybody pass rushes differently. Everybody stops the run differently.”

But if there is one guy to mold this line, it is defensive line coach Brentson Buckner. Already, JPP is impressed with his new position coach and one reason for that is that Buckner is a veteran of NFL battles himself.

In fact, Buckner is the first position coach JPP has had in the NFL that was a former NFL player.

“I like him, man,” JPP said. “There is a lot I could say about him. I am learning a lot from him. More than I know.

“He knows what it is to be on that d-line and you have to be consistent. Playing d-line is tough. ‘Buck’ does a very good job at teaching fundamentals and what to do at what point.”

Last year JPP had the fourth-most snaps of all defensive linemen. This year JPP expects that to drop. And he can thank his teammates.

“We have so much depth out there I will be out there less,” JPP said.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter has been very happy with the addition of JPP so far.

“A real impressive player that is willing to share with the younger guys,” Koetter said of JPP. “When we played him last year we probably feared him more in the running game than we did in the pass game. A lot of those speed rushers can’t play the run.”

Let’s see them get after it for once!

  2. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

How’s Noah Spence looking Joe? Being tucked in the beautiful Smoky Mountains it’s hard for us to get a lot of info on many of the players. Unless of course if you’d lay off JW for a few hours and let us know how some of them are looking in camp. If he’s 100% healthy this dude will be in the pro bowl this year.

  3. Not there yet Says:

Things will be different this year, the defense folded at the end of games because of the front 4. The overtime game against Green Bay comes to mind. The depth will prevent the 4th quarter breakdowns

  4. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

Good to know there is another Bucs fan in Knoxville! Keep the updates coming!

  5. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

it was good to see JPP out there today, full go. Dude’s got some long arms for sure, very agile, can’t wait to see him in a game.

    @Aaron…
    Don’t acknowledge the idiots

  9. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Reality must be idiocracy

Any player acquired by bucs with previous sucess has regressed 98 out of 100 times. You clueless optimists cant rewrite history to prevent your feelings from being hurt. Now go get a hug before your heads explode. Reality is truly a beotch

Jpp will play less than 7 games

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Two years ago, I begged for the Bucs to go after Jason Pierre-Paul, and Licht did, but JPP took less money to return to the Giants.

JPP had an adjustment period to playing with missing fingers. He’s made that adjustment, and we have him locked up for 3 seasons!

This is going to be good, people!

JPP was not a free agent, stupid. Wrong on both counts.

  12. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

For once I think we will have a much more balanced team on both sides of the ball! Which is a recipe for a good team if not great! I’m still concerned about the kicking game though…Go Bucs!!

JPP wisdom: “Hey guys, don’t light fireworks in your hand when you are a big-money NFL star….”
