Expect A Weak August From Ryan Fitzpatrick

July 24th, 2018

Mark it down — so you don’t freak out later.

Bucs opening-day starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is not an a August kind of guy.

With Bucs training camp set to kick off Thursday, Joe wants fans to have no expectations of Fitzpatrick on the fields of One Buc Palace, other than inconsistent play balanced by highly consistent leadership.

Joe’s research shows Fitzpatrick has never been known as much of a training camp player throughout his NFL career. That includes last year when media types were buzzing (not Joe) about No. 3 QB Ryan Griffin looking like he could snag the job of primary backup to America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Griffin has no shot of starting on opening day this season unless Fitzpatrick is injured. Of course, Jameis is suspended by the NFL for the first three games after the league publicly labeled him a sex offender earlier this month.

“I’m never going to be the guy to stand out,” Fitzpatrick reflected in June, while talking about how he’s always been a guy who plays much better in a real game versus a practice setting.

That certainly was the case last year, when he was very solid through three starts and two relief appearances.

If he plays like Allen Iverson who hated and never seemed to practice I’ll be good with that.

    #Get after it!

  3. Dooshlarue Says:

Well as long as he doesn’t:

    Sexually assault anyone
    Steal anything
    Eat any Ws
Talk down to young female students
    Throw stupid interceptions
    Fumble for no apparent reason

    I’ll be ok.
Thanks for the heads up Joe.

  4. Robert Says:

finally a QB who plays more than he talks!

I’ll watch as long as Fitz is the starter. if jdubya gets back in I turn the channel.

no support for labeled sex offenders

  5. Dooshlarue Says:

Oh, or push a coach out of the way so he can fight.

    Then I’ll be ok.

    Thanks man

  9. Robert Says:

    lol @ nole

no worries. jdubya won’t be around much longer, then you can hug his nuts on another team…..or visit him on orient road

@813-Bingo, he shouldn’t settle for that. You stive to make yourself practice better. He sounds like a career back up.

  17. D-Rome Says:

Seminole fans make me chuckle sometimes.

  18. Robert Says:

me too, they’re too stupid to have morals

  19. Eric Says:

    At best Fitz is mediocre.

No need to wear the old guy out at camp. Save him for those three games and hope we can steal one before America’s QB comes roaring back.

  20. Reality_43 Says:

    @ Robert
    You are a sex offender!!

There, I have labeled you, and hopefully no one supports you ever again!!

Hasty lashing out from people like you is almost always to cover up a serious deficiency so I wouldn’t be surprised at all to learn you are registered in your HOA and drive a panel van.

  21. Jjones Says:

    AWESOME ^^^^^

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

Fitz will be fine, provided that the run-game and play-calling are vastly improved. Oh, the defense too!
You guys are funny with the criticisms of Fitzy! You do realize that he won 2 of the 5 games that we won, right?! And, he only started in 3 of them! He did everything that you could ask of a BACK-UP QB! Sheesh! He’s the back-up!!!!

  23. DBS Says:

Exactly how many poinys did Jameis put up last preseason? 6. Ya I would not talk to fast. And it carried into the regular season.

  24. DBS Says:

    ^points

  25. Chris Says:

    @Robert

You think because the NFL labeled JW as a “sex offender” makes him one? I place no trust in what the NFL says. Also in the conduct policy says that their ruling of guilty is not the same as court of law. If you don’t want to watch the games BC of JW than so be it. That is your choice. I also think they suspended him without any shred of evidence that he did it, if they had evidence it would be 6 games or more, not 3.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

Why?! Why must EVERY article devolve into a Jameis debate?!
STOP SPECULATING!!! He’s suspended for the first 3 games, end of story. If you don’t want to watch the Bucs because of one guy, then good-bye and don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split ya!!! The Bucs are bigger than one player. It’s called a “team sport”!!!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program….

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can’t we all just get along?

  28. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

    @bmf
I agree, but in this case jameis debates are fine considering the article is about the backup qb.
I just wanna talk about fitzs 2 wins
Win #1: josh mccown outplayed fitz. The bucs defense had 6 sacks. That’s over 1/4 of the season total in one game. Gotta give the win to the defense in that one.
Win #2: cutler goes 6/12 with 3 picks to open the game before Matt Moore comes in the 2nd half and outplays fitz and the bucs defense. Fitz played well enough to win the game with some help from cutlers hole digging first half.
…and obviously Doug Martin was terrible in both wins.

My argument is not against fitz, just the people that think our defense/run game wasn’t the culprit for the teams record last season. Our defense did play well against mike glennon, josh mccown, and jay cutler. It all starts with the d-line. If the additions on d-line and subtraction of Doug Martin don’t equal more wins, then we can start blaming qbs, coaches, and gms

  29. Eric Says:

The Seminoles comment just proves that the vast majority of Jameis haters are just butt hurt gator fans, still upset that he shredded them with such ease in college.

    Like they weren’t even there.

  30. Bucsfanman Says:

Westminster – valid points. I wasn’t so much touting fitz, just pointing out he’s a backup and did his job. As you alluded to, the run game and defense were sorely lacking. Something we should all hope improves whether it’s Jameis or Fitzy at qb.

  31. BrianBucs Says:

Angelo Dundee said that Muhammad Ali never won a round sparring in the gym while training for fights.
As long as Fitz is ready for the opener that’s all that matters

  32. Bucsfanman Says:

As to the “debate”, it’s time we move on and accept it or don’t watch. That’s just my opinion!
Training camp is here! Time for football! 🏈🏈🏈
    Tampa………….Bay!

  33. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

Side note: according to dicks sporting goods, Jameis jersey sales are going up. 38th in the last 30 days. Speaks volumes considering how ugly the jerseys look. Brees is 41st btw. Go Bucs

  34. Joel Guinand Says:

I like Fitzpatrick and hope he does well. I’m not sold on Jameis anymore. Not that he doesn’t have skills but because of the fact I don’t think he can be trusted anymore. Who knows what truly happened in that Uber. The fact still remains that many people, like myself, are just tired of the whole circus that comes with Jameis. I’m not sure what QB would be better for the Bucs in the long run, but in my opinion, I think the Bucs need to part ways with Jameis and find a new starting QB.

  35. BringBucsBack Says:

    Reality43, LOL.
I am the President of my HOA and the van I drive is old/ uncool enough that it may as well have paneling;). Should I worry?

  36. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

    @bbb
You should be very worried. Your presidential entitlements will no longer hide your offenses. Your time is up. And you’re van will be seized as evidence.

  37. BigMacAttack Says:

His beard game is strong though.

  38. Buccfan37 Says:

Impossible for the Bucs to be on TV and me not be watching. A glutton for punishment sometimes bruised and battered but thankful for a forgiving memory. By the next game the thrill is back to peak level.

  39. Trench War Says:

Sadly, this should not even be a discussion. Thanks again, Jameis

  40. Dooshlarue Says:

    Westminster,

Is it possible that JW jersey sales went up because they’ve been deeply discounted?

  41. BucEmUp Says:

I want to see Ryan Griffin in the pre season with the ones and twos. A qb competition for the backup spot. Zero reason to not look at him closely considering Keotter has been dragging him around for years developing him.

  42. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

    @douche
Not according the their website. Same price if you want an Evans jersey…

  43. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

    @dooche
Are you arguing that it’s ok to support him at a discounted rate? There are no jameis discounts according to their website, but nice try

  44. MC Shado 31 Says:

I hope the Jameis Winston man-crushers took a picture of the image of him on the side of the Ray Jay before they stripped his image down with great haste as the thunder clouds rolled in on a stormy day. By this time next year, you lovers can maybe reach him at #jameis-CFL-QB. He’ll be Mike Glennon’s backup. Maybe he’ll tweet ya’ll a pick in his Oh Canada threads….

I wish him well. Hope he wins when in this year. The Bucs have to get some good out of him before they send him packing.

Fitz is the bridge to the future pick in ’19. A good mentor for the face of the franchise.

All humor boys, don’t get all blustered up.

    Shado 31, out.

  45. MC Shado 31 Says:

So when it comes to Dick’s, Winston is still a popular guy. Got it.
    Shado 31, out.

  46. Dooshlarue Says:

    Westminster,

    No thanks, damaged goods.

  47. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

    @mc
I find it a bit ironic that you use a line made famous by Ryan seachrest, who is an alleged groper. Nicely done.

  48. MC Shado 31 Says:

I heard they sent a whole boat load of #3 jerseys to the poor and freezing people in Asia. They sent them all back with a note: “Thanks, but we’re not that poor, and not that cold.”

    Ya’ll be good.

    Shado 31, out.

Look do ur a favor and me a favor all u wannabe buc fans put ur self on quiet time! I can’t people who claim to be fans but constantly put down the team. Win,lose,or draw IAM a true buc fan an back up every Coach, player and know from being a fan if u wanna talk about the problem or find the solution to the defense ask Monte aka Mr.Tampa 2 somebody plz get ahold of him and stop wasting ur time on the b.s. Mr.Tampa 2 needs to come get a class and bring Ronde,Sapp, Culpeper, Derick,Rice, and the Superbowl Mvp d. Jax add Brad Johnson who only throw 8-15 yard passes with 71 completion rate there’s the answer . Or reality give the team a chance before you on a day to day basis make me and every other fan look stupid and embarrass the bucs fan core. I am going to tell you right now for sure we will make the playoffs. One reason defense is gonna have pass rush you haven’t ever seen before if they stay healthy as a core 31 other teams and especially nfc south aren’t going to be so thrilled to play Tampa Bay . Learn from research knowing the players and coaches BB is a Warren Sapp an his personality alone is what we needed along with filling the holes. He’s gonna bring the best out of players an use them accordly but we have every angle covered by far for defense of line. Watch be quiet and enjoy the first winning season . Don’t ever think about replacing JW bc he’s the QB in buc history to perform at the level he preforms stop running talent off bc old buc fans know how the 10 seasons they y’all cry about was the nor. For years. Tighten calling all real buc fans to put a stop with negative vibe and just watch…. I promise you save my post an thank me in January we will be in playoffs $$$$$$$

  50. stpetebucsfan Says:

Some selective reporting by our posters eh.

Yeah Jameis has moved up to a whopping 34th and Brees is 37th…Brees was 23rd last week and dropped 14 spots while Jameis did move up seven spots from 41st. Given that kind of fluctuation week to week the individual weekly stats are probably not that indicative a measure of fan support…somewhat of course but a more telling stat would cover at least a month or 4 weeks of sales.

    BTW

Marcus Mariota…not my fave for sure and the bane of Jameis lovers here is at 17

Baker Mayfield…hasn’t played a game…is in freaking Cleveland and he’s in the 10th spot.

Again from reading this blog it appears it’s about 50-50 support/upset fans.
Those who support Fameis…not all but some are almost cult like in their devotion. And puhleeze can we stop using this story to wage FSU/UF battles…it has NOTHING to do with this drama.

And please stop with the he did it two years ago and you guys are not perfect either. Oh bite me!!! I’ve NEVER been as Forrest Gump stupid…perhaps I”m wrong…I”ve never been as spoiled rotten and entitled and I for one am sick of the losers here who try to justify Jameis horrible decision making by calling us all as dumb or selfish whatever his problem.

It’s not just the two girls…it’s not just…well I could add about a half dozen SERIOUS mistakes…it’s the totality of it all and the lying after the fact.

  52. Bobby M. Says:

Fitz and Winston are basically the same players…..Flashes of potential but will kill you with turnovers and will see their best success as game managers.

That being said, both are as good or better then Bortles and he was playing in the AFC Championship….as a fan, i could careless who’s the QB if we are winning.

  53. Bigbucfan87 Says:

I really hope Robert and Erica…..Eric, same thing! Are not gators fans. I am a gators fan and do not want to be associated with those two very intelligent human beings.

  54. Tampaspicer Says:

This season can’t start soon enough.

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. Eric Says:

Well put st.pete Bucs fan! I’ve ne er seen anything like it…nevermind I forgot about the cult of Trump. The two are very similar in many ways.
Both are either loved or hated , both are divisive, one to his country’s people and the other to the his fan base. Both are not as good as advertised. Both seem to have multiple issues with women that are damaging their careers and reputations.
