The “Collapse” Of The Bucs

June 25th, 2018

This was so wild, Joe had to read it four times to make sure he was both sober and reading the article correctly.

It seems Dave Choate of SBNation’s Dixie Chicks fansite TheFalcoholic.com believes we are living in a time witnessing the beginnings of a complete and total meltdown by an NFL organization that will result in sweeping changes from top to bottom at One Buc Palace.

At first, Joe thought Choate was onto something. It seemed reasonable. All of a sudden America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, finds his future with the team in some doubt over a hassle with an Uber driver. And if Jameis goes down that’s not a good look for the guy who selected him No. 1 overall in the 2015 draft, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

And if the Bucs don’t win this year, then Bucs coach Dirk Koetter is really on the hot seat. Once again Joe will point out that the only coach Team Glazer has hired that survived back-to-back losing seasons was the same guy who won a Super Bowl for the franchise.

So, yeah, could we see a completely reworked Bucs organization a year from now? It sounds plausible if the season really goes into the gutter.

Choate (though he swung and missed when he typed the Bucs have won only one division title since winning the Super Bowl — in actuality it is two division titles) was making the case that the Bucs are about ready to wash their hands of Jameis and cited four reasons why Jameis, as a starting Bucs quarterback, could be launched by Team Glazer.

The first three reasons were preposterous if not hysterical.

In reverse order, Choate believes Jameis paved his road out of Tampa Bay with the Uber driver hassle, a “sexist speech” to children, rallying his teammates to eat W’s, and got hurt and missed three games.

So an NFL player missed three games due to an injury? Off with his head!

A ridiculous pregame speech warrants a No. 1 overall pick to be tossed into the Bay? (Editor’s note: Joe is laughing so hard right now he cannot think of a proper response.)

The “sexist speech” is a load! Jameis spoke to school children for roughly 40 minutes a year or so ago and two or three sentences when Jameis got all nervous to get a young man’s attention, someone tries to pick apart and look to be offended? You see now how easily it is in the 21st century for someone to be smeared for life here?

Joe isn’t sure if Choate’s piece was a failed attempt at comedy, or if he really can be this misinformed and naive. A franchise quarterback getting run over a bad pregame speech?

Chris Rock couldn’t come up with a line like that!

Ya know what’s wild and ridiculous? Continuing to refer to this character as ‘America’s QB”. I’m sure the press in other NFL cities (hell, in THIS CITY) laugh at the abysmal jock sniffing.

  2. Joe Says:

”. I’m sure the press in other NFL cities (hell, in THIS CITY) laugh at the abysmal jock sniffing.

If Joe cared what others in media thought of this site Joe would have changed long ago — and been out of business a short time later.

The way newspapers are hanging on by a thread, perhaps they should look to Joe for advice, not scorn.

  3. Buchead5588 Says:

Jameis will come back strong I don’t think people realize how some people just don’t like Stars An will try to do anything for a payday I think she was hoping for Jameis to offer her money to keep her mouth shut but Jameis wasn’t having it because he didn’t do anything That my QB #3 stay focused be ready to come back an win Gotcha back JW

  4. KingCrabLeggs Says:

Speculation VS Facts …… Another thing I ask myself, Why do we care so much about off the field than we do about production on it? The teams the NFL celebrate most had some of the worse EF ups in league history.

  5. Walter Seidel Says:

Joe, getting clicks does not equal being correct.

  6. Joe Says:

    Thank you King!

Lol Falcon fans standing on their moral high ground giving us warnings lol. Or in this case a Falcon writer lmao…Falcon fauthful are always good for a laugh lol.

  8. BrianBucs Says:

If everything we are hearing gets verified by the NFL report, then America’s Crotchgrabber Jameis Winston needs to be released immediately

  9. AlteredEgo Says:

Without or without Jameis this team has a lot of talent…however we need another starting caliber QB besides Fitz…to protect the staff and the rest of the roster….yes it is a premium to pay and bumps a roster spot for another positional play but IMO the team has no choice other than carry 3 starting caliber QB’s… Fitz is old and they 3rd QB now is nothing ….

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How could the Glazers get rid of “America’s QB”?

  11. USMC-BUC Says:

    Joe,

Continuing to call is “Hassel with uber driver” is a bad look.

The allegation is of physical Sexual Assult. Downplaying the severity is a massive disrespect to all our sisters, mothers, aunts and moms who have been sexually assaulted in their lives.

    Shame.

  12. AlteredEgo Says:

Winston hassled the Uber drivers… tassel

  13. Bobby M. Says:

What coach of any pedigree is coming here to hitch their wagon to Winston after seeing what he’s done to Koetter and Licht? Odds are Koetter will be here another year because any decent coach will want to see Winston behave for a year or two. Can you really hold this season on Koetter when he starts another year with a major distraction and wont have his QB for at least 3 games? Last year we gave him a pass because Winston was injured for 3 games but this year Koetter doesn’t get a pass for issues beyond his control. Koetter’s been on record saying he preferred drafting Mariota initially….Winston isn’t even his guy. I think Koetter gets another pass….and if Winston comes back winning, fans as desperate as this fan base is for winning will let Winston slide.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “At first, Joe thought Choate was onto something. It seemed reasonable. ” Seriously Joe? You actually thought for a moment that The Falcoholic … An Atlanta Falcons community … was ‘reasonable’ when it comes to the Bucs?

Dave Choate has been the Editor-in-Chief at The Falcoholic since the site’s inception in 2006. He is a lifelong Atlanta Falcons fan who resides in New England.

Choate doesn’t even live in Atlanta. He probably roots for the Patriots too. What exactly would anyone expect him to say what? Free Jameis, he’s innocent?

  15. KingCrabLeggs Says:

Due Process @ USMC-BUC… The State said, “NOT GUILTY” not FSU but the state of Florida.

  16. KingCrabLeggs Says:

Who’s fault is the distraction, really? The NFL knew about this since 2016. This could’ve been handled last year.

  17. tval Says:

The “virtue signaling”, surrounding jameis, is ASTOUNDING!! Look at your life.

  18. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Anyone with an idea when the report comes out?

  19. The Buc Realist Says:

I do think we will see sweeping changes at One Buc next year!!!! The Glazer’s will fire NFL GM Licht due to his association with the “”ole jameis” and leading the back ground check!!!!!!!

The new GM will bring in his new coaching staff to make it all look like the “new era” of Bucs and jameis due to the cleaning of his image will be announce that the coaching staff will be zero tolerance!!!! We will also see a huge purge of the old vets on the roster!!!!

Jw3 will then have front office and coaches taking the fall to white wash the controversy around him!!!!!!! He will try to continue to be a face of franchise and charities around town, But it will not be the same!!!!!!!

I was in a affluent area of Tampa yesterday, and talk of pulling their kids out of school for the day, if JW3 was scheduled to give a speech that day!!!!! When jw3 shows up for charities and the grown ups are rolling their eyes and leaving, that will not be effective at all!!!!!!!!

Oh…… the times we live in…..

  23. The Graham Tram Says:

If you don’t like the America’s QB moniker, then don’t read the site. Easy.

Jameis is a young, maturing individual. We expect these kids to come out of school polished, but there’s really no reason to expect that. There are a lot of things I love about Jameis and a lot of things that need to stop.

Personally, I think the Buccaneer organization needs to be more than a football team. It needs to be a place that develops young people into mature adults. I think Jameis has shown the promise to be a great qb and a great role model in the city.

    Starting from ground-zero solves nothing.

  24. Mike Says:

    Listen people!

Maybe we are all jumping to poor conclusions- Jameis obviously had a bit to drink….happens.

For all we know, this “Kate” could be the spitting image of Ali Marpet, and Jameis, being the go getter that he is, and a bit disoriented, decided to get a bit of practice on his under the center snaps.

Give the guy a little room to grow!

  25. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Graham Tram unless the example you are looking to show is felons can become good citizens JW is not a good role model.

Would you want your son to be accused of the things he has been accused of even if he grew up to be a NFL QB?

  26. Greg Says:

unfortunately I do believe the Buccaneers are in major trouble but this guy’s reasoning is ridiculous and absurd. Jamieis speech to the children was blown way out of proportion but it’s a perfect example how hostile people are towards him. People in the core just don’t believe he’s a good guy and the Uber incident isn’t helping. I have been so personally aggravated with it that I can’t even have Jame is Winston as my quarterback on Maddens so I have some big fat guy with my name on his jersey rolling around trying to make plays LOL

  27. Joe Says:

    USMC:

Continuing to call is “Hassel with uber driver” is a bad look.

Well, if you can tell Joe what exactly happened/didn’t happen in that Uber, Joe would sure love to know.

  29. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

This franchise has always been an embarrassment and always will be. It’s the ownerships fault lnearly 2 decades and hundreds of players, dozens of Coaches and front office personnel and still the same results. Glazers are a joke and thier piss poor franchise is a direct reflection of thier piss poor leadership and inability to earn respect from thier own employees

  30. jmarkbuc Says:

    Graham

Jameis is a young, maturing individual. We expect these kids to come out of school polished, but there’s really no reason to expect that.

    —————————
We expect kids who narrowly escaped a sexual assault charge to keep his nose, and hands clean.

So sick of the “maturing” argument. JW is old enough to know better, too young to care. In the case of these kind of charges, too young to care is not a valid excuse.

  31. Joseph Mamma Says:

“Hassel with an uber driver” is when they take the slow route to your destination and you say “hey you’re going the wrong freakin way.”

  32. RODNEY Says:

As me n a aints fan agreed on on Bourben street in my bucs jersey F@#k Atlanta

  33. Not there yet Says:

He could have grabbed all the crotches he wanted in the club like just about every other man does even the ones here saying he should be cut. There’s a reason why big Ben got 6 games but he’s only getting 3. Get off your high horses for a minute or just completely shut up. If you were advised of the same thing you want to keep your crappy job at McDonald’s or whatever cubicle hole you work in. He’ll be here regardless of the outcome at least another year so if you don’t like it it’s time to shut up and go find another team. I’m a buc fan with or without Winston.

I would love for all the fake fans to go root for some other team if your gonna come with that cut Winston or else stupidity. The President said it’s ok and probably made a call and congratulated Winston

  34. Buccernutter Says:

    Mike

    Hahahahhahahahahahahahahaha bro that was hilarious!

It’s crazy how much different our fan base has handled this compared to Pitt and Ben, Dallas and Zeke, Indy and Peyton’s sack tap, pats and Brady’s cheating, Panthers and Cam’s personality, etc

I have never seen our fan base so divided. Im all over social media and the fact that our highly underperforming fan base is so quick to crucify him has really made me sick. We’ve searched 40 years for a franchise QB and we’re willing to cut him after what was at most an unsuccessful drunken advance? No disrespect to anyone but let’s be real, she said he was fine the rest of the trip if the allegations are even true which sounds like he was probably embarrassed. He wasnt aggressive or even continued to make moves. I’ve done worse and I’ve learned from it. It seems clear being that it’s been 2 years he may have too.

A lot of thin skin in Tampa. Again I don’t condone his behavior but it’s not like he put his nuts on her forehead in front of several people like manning. Imagine if they had social media when that occurred?

I respect the victim a lot but she didn’t even file a police report so it seems she may haven’t even taken it that seriously. Shit half our fan base is more offended and victimized than she is.

I support #3! But yes dude needs to grow up!

  35. Buccernutter Says:

Only reason our franchise is a joke is because of our fan base like reality is a beotch.

  36. Pete I Says:

It was a good article from the falcons web site, and there wasn’t anything that really could be argued with… and the collapse happened long ago, what is not happening is any success rebuilding the rubble.

  37. BucTrooper Says:

SB Nation is just fans posting nonsense. If three of his 4 bullet points are garbage that’s to be expected.

  38. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Reality, before you call anyone and embarrassment please check your grammar, punctuation and spelling. Your rants could be composed by monkeys banging on a keyboard. Nothing like owning a NFL franchise, top tier soccer team and a diverse empire of successful companies and getting called out by an uneducated joke of a troll.

  39. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

You soft losers trying to defend this franchise are forgetting the most important fact ON FIELD RESULTS…. nothing else matters.

The Buccaneers on field result are nothing short of EMBARRASSING during glazers kids watch that is indisputable fact.

Buccaneers have had 3 positive & respectable events over thier histoy

    1. Grudens glory year after cleaning up dungy’s mess.

    2. Drafting warren sapp

    3. Firing the ignorant one dimensional buffoon tony “career playoff loser” Dungy.

Try to spin anything else as positive is pure and total fantasy island BS

  40. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Bucs collapse began the day Malcolm Glazer collapsed and the mormons took the reins.

  41. Bucsfanman Says:

Leadership starts at the top. It always has and always will.
On this, my friend RiaB is 100% correct.
We can sit here and dissect this clear through 2019 if we wanted to. This team lacks leadership.

  42. Capt.Tim Says:

Jameis was accused of Rape at FSU
Charges were dismissed., largely due to Kameis having a witness.
    Ronald Darby.

Jameis sexually assaulted this young Uber driver.
He didnt report it. Instead, He huddled up with Ronald Darby again, and again came up with an Alibi.
Didnt work this time. He wasnt in a town that worshipped FSU.

Does Anyone believe this will be the last event?
This event has gotten so much attention, that there are a bunch of reporters looking for more dirt on Jameis. Right now, while the story is hot.

Any bets that someone doesnt find something else?
Thats the problem. Hes done it before, and he’ll do it again.

Its just a matter of time.

  43. Buccernutter Says:

Lol you know very little about the kinsman allegation, captain Tim.

  47. Reach87 Says:

Unfortunately for some, the Bucs will field a pretty good team this year with Winston coming back from suspension (if he is suspended), starting, and looking pretty damn good (much like he did with the somewhat more diversified offense from the last 4 games of the season). Not calling playoffs or any of that because that highly depends on the other teams in the Conference, but his on the field play tied with overall team play will be such that this conversation and the “off with his head before the facts and actual suspension comes out” theme will melt away. Kid is the truth…he will prove it this year with a better team around him, suspension or not. Expect more…stop crying and watch what an improved roster (team game), better coaching (I have faith) and improved focus (again, showing faith) can do. We CAN do this. Go Bucs!
