Grim Forecast For Bucs

May 30th, 2018

Ugly prediction by four-letter.

The wise guys at the Westgate Superbook in Sin City believe the Bucs’ over/under win total for the 2018 season is 6.5.

The spreadsheeters at BSPN agree.

In a projection for each team’s 2018 campaign, the four-letter is not seeing a profitable Tampa Bay season. They too are looking at 6.5 wins over/under.

BSPN nerds believe the Bucs have the strongest schedule in the league. Further, they believe the odds of the Bucs to have a top-five draft pick in 2019 to be a 29 percent chance; and a six percent shot of securing the top pick in the 2019 draft.

It seems the numbers-crunchers think more highly of Jimmy GQ with the 49ers than they do America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

The irony is that prediction will completely change before the season starts. The are drones following Vegas odds makers.

I suspect the odds makers will get a lot of love this year in order to legitimize them now that the whole gambling thing is legal.

Personally, I think it is a mistake.

  2. Fire Goodell Says:

Take a look at their projections from last season: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/19504913/fpi-makes-predictions-2017-nfl-season

    Colts: 8.5
    Jaguars: 6.8
    Giants: 8.2
    Bucs: 7.7
    Rams: 6.0

They gave the Raiders a 56.6% of making the playoffs and just 16.6% for the Jags. Eagles had 34.4%, Rams 7.9%.

  3. Roy T. Buford Says:

Good! As long as I can remember, when the Bucs had a broad consensus for a good season or even single performance, disaster ensued. Bucs are better using “surprise” to defeat their enemies. It’s partially how over the past several years how they beat teams like PIT, SEA, KC, PHI, NYG, DAL and the like. Even for their SB, few were picking the NFLs #1 D to beat the #1 O.

Keep the mass expectations low…walk softly and…

  4. LostinPA Says:

Maybe being disrespected will light a fire under them. Being counted as a team to watch last year did them no favors. They need to grow up and stop reading the headlines good or bad. Until then I would rather them undervalued rather than overvalued.

  5. GreG Says:

Take the under, Jimmy G deserves to be though of higher than Jameis, he wins with less

  6. Eric Says:

Saints, Falcons, Panthers all in the top ten.

  7. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

This is certainly no surprise. This is a league of “What Have You Done Lately”. Well…? Jimmy G is going into his second year. He has shown a lot of potential. Now, lets see what D coordinators do with his game film. Winston sucked most of last year (because of injury). But no one takes injury into consideration.

With Hard Knocks, the Bucs turned into everyones sweetheart team and we let them down. So not many people are going to choose them again to be successful.

As fans, we know we have the talent. If the coaches can do their job, we are going to have a great year. Take the over.

  8. John5 Says:

I’m glad. Let them all say we’re going to stink. Based on last year’s performance we deserve it. The Bucs were so hyped up before last season some people were even talking making the Super Bowl. We played like a team without a backbone and no identity. I much rather us be the underdogs.

I personally am not getting too hyped up either. Can’t take another kick between the legs like last season’s let down. I’m hoping Koetter and the whole team proves me wrong and we crush it. And I am not one of those negative Buc haters either. I love the team and our guys. I only hated Swaggy and that dumpster is gone.

  9. Buccernutter Says:

Just remember this same outlet ranked us #10 in preseason.

They’ve been forecasting us to be good for a while. Looks like they’ll be wrong again. Should have stick with the optimism.

It’s gonna be a great season!

  10. Eric Says:

Be nice if our team wasn’t so mentally fragile that they fall apart completely due to high expectations.

  11. Buccernutter Says:

These predictions are mostly about how the previous season concluded. They don’t take parity much into consideration. If they said Philly was going to ball everyone would have laughed.

It’s better to be wrong and logical than make what some will perceive as crazy predictions with a smaller chance of being correct I guess.

  12. miken Says:

Us Buc bettors have paid for more than a few hotels in Vegas.

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

Watching a show on NFL Net last night. The put up the five teams with the highest % of winning the SB. Patriots still number one with the usual suspects…GB…Philly…the usuals

Then they did the % for the team most likely to get the number one pick. Good news…they did not include us in the top five teams most likely to finish last.

I like expressing things in terms of %…there are NO certain winners in the NFL..just those with a higher % of winning.

And so what do we think guys. I say the Bucs have about a 60-70% chance of posting a winning season. I certainly expect more than 7 wins.

  14. ndog Says:

Cautious hope. My only worry is that we are relaying on a LOT of young guys to contribute in a big way. Think about it, if Vea, Stewart/Davis and Jones don’t all contribute in a big way we will be just slightly better (JPP, Curry, Allen, Jensen) than last year talent wise but hopefully much healthier (Jameis, Spence, Kwon, David).

  15. 813bucboi Says:

not predicting the record until after the bye week…..those first 4 games will tell me everything I need to know about the players and coaches…..

maybe the forecast will piss some players and coaches off…..maybe they’ll make excuses….we’ll find out soon enough…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

The top HC/GM combo makes it to the playoffs

Kobe believes the defense will step up BUT…

with Klueless Koetter afraid to lose, prevent offense…

    Kobe Faker thinks 4-12 …

“The only chance we have hope of making the playoffs if either Djax or MEME and Brate gets injured and Klueless is forsed to start and direct the offense to OJ and Godwin”

    “Its the scheme(Klueless) Stupid(Bucsheep)”

    Kobe Faker

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Kobe

4-12? Really? That’s one game worse than last year. You don’t believe that JPP is a better DL addition than Swaggy? You don’t believe that ROJO is a better back at this point than Doug? You don’t believe Jameis shoulder is better and he will play better this year?

I can accept a lot of criticism of the Bucs at all levels…but I simply cannot force myself to believe this year’s talent is not better than what we fielded last year.

Look at the DL and our new CB’s and again our new RB has the potential to really shake things up for us. If we add a running game to all those passing targets Jameis will have a field day. If ROJO is the real deal can we imagine Jameis reverting to one of his great strengths…his ability to handle the ball really well and create passing off of play action fakes of the run. For play action to work and fake out the defense…there has to be a legitimate threat of a successful run.

  18. JimmyJack Says:

If I had to bet on the Bucs I would have been pennyless ears ago.

  19. Duke Says:

    JJ,

Bet against the Bucs and if they win…..Sunday’s are great. They lose, you get paid, via betting, to watch.

  20. unbelievable Says:

Roy T Buford you are 100% correct.

This team has always done better when no one shows them any respect.

As soon as they get some praise, everything goes to chit. One of the most dysfunctional franchises there is.

Let the haters hate, time to prove em wrong! As 813 always says: NO EXCUSES! GO BUCS!

  21. NorCal Buc Says:

I think we can all agree the bucs completely under performed their talent level last year , I think we can also agree we have added substantially more talent this year . With that being said we were in a bunch of one score games that had we any pass defense or kicking game could have and should have been wins so I’m not sure how a team that everyone thought should have won 8-10 games last year and has gotten better can only be favored in 3 games? This is a 9-11 win team mark it down.

  22. Trench War Says:

If we’d only taken Jimmy GQ in the 2nd round before NE instead we got Glennon in rd. 3

  23. Kobe Faker Says:

    Stpete

Our defense will be better but OCs will find our weakness. Short passing game before our improved def line comes in. No one will be running on 1st down.slants, screens, and crosses testing our corners and slot. However i agree our defense will be better

But our real problem is our playcalling. It is feast or famine. Deep passes or running plays. The only way we go 80 yards without the deep bomb is trying to run the ball continuously. In the NFL most teams cant run fron the 20 to paydirt. Klueless doesnt call continuous effient high percentage plays to loosen the defense.

EVERYTHING IS BOGGED DOWN CONGESTED IN KLUELESS PLAY DESIGN AND SCHEME

The modern offense and Achilles heel is defending the pass reciever in open space. It breaks the whole defense down…explosive plays BIT ARE HIGHLY PROBABLE BECAUSE ITS ONLY 5-10 YARDS PASS PLAYS

THIS YEARS DRAFT SVKS. Bunch of backup players and skillsets. YOU NEED PROBOWLERS. 2017 draft will be remembered for bypassing all pro hof Derwin James. ..playmaker that makes a difference

Ronald Jones will be a bust. I dont see the skillset to beat NFL defenders

  25. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

We will get at least 7 wins if the D can stay healthy. They are good. Should be a playoff team.
If QB play continues to suffer, the switch will be made to Fitz by week 5 in a last-ditch attempt by management to save their jobs, which should still give him enough time to scratch out 7 wins.
    #FreeTheAmishRifle
    GO BUCS!!!

  26. stpetebucsfan Says:

I posted this yesterday but with all the daily Koetter bashing perhaps it’s appropriate again.

In his first year in the NFL, Koetter had immediate success setting franchise records for total points scored and yards gained while helping the Jaguars to an 11–5 record. In his five seasons with the Jaguars, the team cumulatively ranked third in the NFL in rushing yards over that time span in addition to having the NFL’s leading rusher in Maurice Jones-Drew in 2010.

We need to be praying for several things. That Spence stays healthy all year and JPP and Vita turn out to be the great additions we’re hoping for.

We need Jameis to continue maturing and stay healthy.

And we NEED ROJO to be the real deal. If he is a quality NFL RB then at long last we’ll get to see Koetter’s true offense. If we do NOT have a running game this year look for more beotching about play calling.

Koetter’s MO has always been predicated on a good running game. Yeah he’s not afraid to throw it deep but Koetter’s offense flourished with runners like MJD and Michael Turner. Let’s see Koetter or Moncken’s offense when it actually has balance and the threat of a running game.

  27. Jeffbuc Says:

    @ trench war
    Glennon was drafted in 2013
Garoppolo was drafted in 2014. So know we couldn’t have drafted him instead of glennon

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

I could care less than..2 thirds of a good Got deehyam about forecast. Alls I know is WE..BUC NATION..are sick and tired of the GD excuses. You got a DC sittin on his posterior Anus in the press box eatin snacks who fails to ge her done. And a HC who cannot manage a game. WIN Bucs or..Fire’em all!!
    NO EXCUSES THIS YEAR.
    Wanna change mt Attitude?
    WIN!!!!

  29. Gambelero Says:

Those aren’t real odds. The line was from Westgate and strictly for publicity; they won’t take any real (real in terms of size) bets. And the line was 6.6 over 160, which is about the same as 7.5, under 20.

The real number from BetDSI is 7.5 under 30. The Jaguars are 8 over 25; the Panthers 8 under 30. To be rated at 7.5 in the toughest division in the league when you just went 5-11 is a strong vote of confidence in your off season moves.

  30. James Walker Says:

6.5 sounds about right. New coach next year. New GM next year and another 3-5 years of “Oh no, we suck again”. – I hope they are wrong.I
