The Rock Lifter

Legend.

You want to talk about a beast? You talk about Vita Vea.

The newest Bucs defensive lineman is a tackle who, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said, could play three different positions. He is 6-5, 340 pounds and runs a 5.10 40-yard dash.

Folks, for a Sherman tank to run that fast, that is moving.

How much of a beast is Vea? He is a living legend in the South Seas.

In a recent trip to French Polynesia, Vea toured an area of an island that is dirt poor. How poor? Well, Vea came across a group of local athletes who were working out lifting weights. But the men were too poor to buy weights.

Instead, the men lifted rocks.

So Vea was invited to join the workout. Vea picked out a boulder and began lifting it until he said he noticed the natives giving him funny looks. At first, Vea, in a video conference with the Bucs pen and mic club Thursday evening, said he thought he angered the men and apologized as he thought he broke some local custom of some sort.

He was wrong. The natives were staring at him not in anger, but in awe.

Vea learned that only one man had ever lifted the same rock, according to the locals.

Vea, before he has even taken a snap in underwear football practice for the Bucs, is a living legend.

He looks just like Maui, from the Disney movie “Moana”.
Character was voiced by Dewayne”the Rock” Johnson

  11. Thespiritof1976 Says:

Now draft Shaq. Griffin with one of those 2nds.

He can be the ultimate defensive “floater”. He can play safety, linebacker, and even a bit of edge rusher.

  12. Joe Says:

Man…the Facebook GMs are out in full force. I don’t know who is more salty…FSU fanboys or the Conte haters.

  18. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Still neutral on this pick…..

A big, moving, glorified run stuffer…..

He moves very well for a big guy

    …..but I still dunno about this pick….

  19. OneBuc55 Says:

Mike Smith and Gerald McCoy have to be in heaven right now…On paper the DLINE is Ridiculous…

  20. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Legendary. Love it.

  21. Buc'n A Says:

Love this pick!!! JL must have heard me
Screaming @ my hotel tv in Kansas City to trade down!!

Sony Michel with one of those 3(!!!!!!!) #2’s

    Plzzzzz

  22. Jeagan1999 Says:

A big, nasty Dline is a good thing! Especially good pick when you consider that 2 second rounders came with him! Well done Jason Licht!

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

Vea will do nothing but stuff the run. He wont get sacks.
But getting sacks isnt his job
And if you know ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL, you’d know that.

Vea is a nose tackle. His job is to hold his ground, against double teams, and prevent the RB from finding a gap.
    Period

And Vea will be great at that!
    Great pick at 12

  24. OneBucPerson Says:

Can y’all imagine what he’s gonna look like once Coach Buck has beat some proper technique into him? Ohhh man.

  25. Stanglassman Says:

Great run stuffer….And, unbeknownst to some, that’s not all he’s good for. His 41 total quarterback pressures tied for third-most among FBS draft-eligible interior defensive linemen, as noted by PFF. NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah says Vea is a “more athletic version of Haloti Ngata.”

  26. Gmax0522 Says:

Jason Licht has no clue what he is doing. He drafts a DT when he already signed 4 free agents to the same position. No CB, no OL, No RB…
Mike Hughes gone, Sony Michel gone, Derwin James gone, so what does he do with the next pic? This guy always passes on first tier players, because he keeps thinking he can count on the injury riddled players that are already on the roster! What a joke this team has become.

  27. Jarhead Says:

I’m a FSU fan and I wanted Derwin James, but I am very happy with this pick as well. The Defensive Line is now completely overhauled with run stuffers and players who can rush the passer!!! Love it 😊 Well done Jason Licht, Day 2 will be so much fun with 3 picks. Go Bucs

  28. K2 Says:

Love the pick…It like a bigger version of Sapp

  29. Oneilbucs Says:

We need a running game. This is why we lose. Winston needs a running game why don’t this team see that . I think they setting him up to fail . If they don’t get him a running back. Defenses will drop every one back in its going to be bad for him . N they going to blame every thing on Winston. That’s the bad part. Winston needs to play baseball after this season why he is still young enough.

  30. Frank Pillow Says:

We are building this team from the inside out- they way it should be done. There’s a ton of talent and value still on the board at CB, G, RB and even DE. This includes a shot at a combo of Hernandez, N. Chubb, and the Iowa and Colorado CBs, OU-DE and BC-DE. Plus Vea Who the hell wouldnt have killed for that 24 hrs ago?!?!

  31. Biggun Says:

    HOME-RUN PICK

  32. JDR Says:

    Reach..gamble on a 2 down player

  33. BushidoEvans Says:

Stupid ass people complaining we literally have 3 second rounds pick grfoh.

  34. Defense Rules Says:

@Frank Pillow … “We are building this team from the inside out- they way it should be done. There’s a ton of talent and value still on the board at CB, G, RB and even DE.” THAT’S the bottom line right there Frank. With THREE 2nd picks, ONE pick in 4th Rnd, ONE pick in 5th Rnd, and TWO picks in 6th Rnd we have an opportunity now to fill all of our priority starting needs (OG, RB, CB, SS) PLUS add some depth where we need it most IMO (OT, CB, RB). Opportunity knocked last night & Jason Licht opened the door … great job.

  35. lambchop Says:

Please do a little research before claiming he’s a 2 down lineman. He plays a lot of positions on the line, 3-tech, 4-tech, standing. He’s going to be a HUGE cog in our DL. We have depth and players who can play multiple positions, including GMC. So, it’s a win win especially when you consider GMC will be 31 next year and will cost us 13M against the cap.

  36. Buc4life Says:

JDR is right Vea only played 60% of the defensive snaps. And no he is not Sapp 2.0 or even a replacement for McCoy. He is a nose guard whose job it is to take double teams and control the line. Let’s hope his weight issues don’t take him out of the league. That is not good weight (muscle) he is carrying around the waist. I hope I’m wrong but that’s too much weight gain for a guy who was a running back in high school. It would be smart to get him on a program and get him down to 320 and cut that midsection weight. That would increase stamina and speed.

  37. Evolvingbucfan Says:

@ Buc’n A …..Pats picked him up last night with I think was the 23rd pick

  38. JimmyJack Says:

Love the pick. We haven’t built the defense and starting from the middle with a 340 pound monster. More then any position the Bucs desperately needed to draft physically and intensity and it looks like they did just that. Well done Licht.

Would love to see us get another 300+ physical player tonight

  39. Ken Says:

The best way to predit the future is to look at the past. Wilfork, Ngata, Perry — Huge, Powerful, Freakishly Athletic DL. They all made probowls and they all won super bowls. These DTs garner so much attention that everyone else gets better.
