“Steal”

April 26th, 2018

Flying under radar.

Joe doesn’t know if the Bucs will grab a running back tonight. They should.

However, Joe is OK if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht gets his man in the second round.

Now there is scuttlebutt from former NFL suit Michael Lombardi that Sony Michel has a serious knee injury. (Joe’s will neither cite nor attribute to Lombardi what Rotoworld.com did because Joe listened to the Ringer.com podcast in question and never heard what Rotoworld reported.)

Joe listened to the discussion about Michel twice. Yes, Lombardi said NFL teams are spooked about a medical condition with Michel but Lombardi added, “I don’t know what it is.”

But if BSPN’s Kirk Herbstreit were Licht, he would be all over Michel’s teammate at Georgia, Nick Chubb. Herbie claims Chubb is a complete and total steal.

What an underrated career Chubb has had. People forget that after Todd Gurley got injured in 2014, Chubb stepped in and was just as effective. Chubb had his own injury in 2015, but he has since played in 28 games over the past two seasons, and he finishes his Georgia career with a rushing average of 6.3 yards per carry.

Lombardi, via the same podcast Joe referenced, is a big Chubb fan as well saying, “If you want to be in some I-formation, he is an old school back.”

Joe sure hopes the Bucs don’t waste their time and draft capital trying to find a hidden gem of a running back on the third day of the draft.

Tonight is just the first round correct ??

  2. Pepsi Says:

Joe are you saying Bucs should use pick 7 on Chubb or Guice? Ill say this though… if Michel is really a health concern than the Bucs have some brainstorm scrambling going on right now. Because that would push guys like Guys and Chubb to go before our second round pick, and Michel not as good of an option. Im not sure if Chubb/Guice at 7 is what youre advocating but I seriously think its actually on the table tonight.

  3. Jason Says:

    Yes Rlichtson just round one.

  4. Jason Says:

Pepsi Nick Chubb is the one with health issues.

  5. Joeypoppems Says:

He could easily be the steal of the draft

  6. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Jason

There are reports out there that teams are worried about Michel’s health. What those concerns are I have no idea.

    Nick Chubb is healthy tho.

  7. BucsFansince1976 Says:

Providing Bucs get Nelson at 7 , their RB needs are not as pressing , because their O-Line will open holes that Joe could run through. Bucs may draft D-Line or Secondary in round 2 if they get Nelson , and address RB in round 3. Let us not forget that Peyton Barber averaged 3.9 per carry behind a decidedly average O-Line when he finally got his snaps , that change at RB from Martin to Barber should have been made much sooner IMHO.

  8. SB Says:

Nelson @ 7 or trade back to get Taven Bryan or Davenport. Please and Thank You.

  9. miken Says:

Nelson will be gone at 7 and Chubb will be gone by our second round pick

  10. SB Says:

    Exactly what ’76 said.

  11. Reality_43 Says:

Well you guys keep saying to wait until round 3 to get a RB and I can guarantee that won’t happen.

    NO ROUND 3 PICK!!!!!!!!

    Damn

    Did not write that.

I wish they go back to the old 2day format….all day Saturday….and all day sunday…..that was great!!!!!!….

if we get nelson in the 1st, we can get DL in the 2nd….then sign cj Anderson and eric reid…..Orlando brown in the 4th…..bo scarbrough in the 5th…..tony brown and Holton hill in the 6th…..a.callaway in the 7th…..

we come out of the draft with 2OL, 1DL, 1RB, 2CB’s, 1KR/WR…..plus 2 day1 veteran starters at RB and S……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  14. Reality_43 Says:

Nick Chubb won’t be the steal of the draft anymore. The cat’s out of the bag and running wild now!!!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The only “steal” at RB would be Barkley @ 7……I’m focused on the first round today…..I agree, if we get Nelson, it makes our RB needs easier but they are still there……I think we will choose a RB in round 2 and another in round 6.

    ^^BINGO^^

    YES PLEASE!!!!!!….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  18. buccfan305 Says:

If we can’t get Barkley @ 7, Mark Walton will be a great late round pick.

  19. Bucssuccs Says:

We won’t draft a running back. We just signed Charles Simms.

  20. Reality_43 Says:

    LOL

    Fat Boy Simms

  21. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Bucssuccs

I would hope we’d draft one. Right now we only have 3 backs on the roster, Sims, Rodgers, and Barber. We need to add 1 more.

  22. Pickgrin Says:

I can’t even remember the last time I saw the Bucs start an offensive play in the “I” formation.

Nick Chubb would be a good pick for the Bucs at #38 if he is still available.

I still say trade down a bit in the 2nd, get another pick and then draft Rashaad Penny if we didn’t move down in the 1st rd.

  23. lambchop Says:

Michel even with an injury is a better prospect. He will heal, he’s young. He does what Chubb doesn’t – catch well and pass protect. I hope he slides because he was on pace to be the 2nd RB taken ahead of Guice. Someone is trying to get him to slide.

  24. Issic haggins Says:

813 is all over it 👍

  25. Pete Mitchell Says:

I’m so ready for this draft! I hope we come away with Nelson or B Chubb at 7 and Mike Hughes or the corner drom penn state in the second.

  26. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

This infatuation with RB is silly.
There are guys in the street right now who would be better than anything the Bucs have had in years.

I hope Licht is above the noise.

KEEP BUILDING THE POSITIONS THAT MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE….

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  27. Guzziep Says:

Barring a trade down or Barkley falling, the Bucs won’t draft an RB till the 4th guaranteed

  28. Oxycondoms Says:

    big Chubb fan, good one

  29. SOEbuc Says:

    @buccfan305

I would also love to get Walton if we were to wait to get a back. Maybe in the fourth but hoping he can fall to the fifth. I want Terrell Edmunds or Jessie Bates in the fourth.
