Top Free Agents Left

March 14th, 2018

Still time.

The dinner bell will ring in 16 hours, the start of the new league year and the start of free agency when players can actually put pen to paper and sign contracts.

Clearly, with major holes at cornerback and running back, and upgrades that could be used at guard and at defensive tackle, the Bucs have agreed to terms with… [crickets].

Not very encouraging for on a team that finished with a grand total of five wins.

Intelligent Evan Silva Rotoworld.com updated his top free agents available list Tuesday night and there isn’t much to pick from.

Nate Solder
Ndamukong Suh
Sheldon Richardson
Justin Pugh
A.J. McCarron
Dontari Poe
E.J. Gaines
Kenny Vaccaro
Adrian Clayborn

Of course, Dontari Poe would be a nice pick-up and Joe has been advocating the Bucs land Kenny Vacarro. The Bucs have also been linked to corner E.J. Gaines and he is still out there.

Adrian Clayborn? Please!

Still, cornerback Rashaan Melvin is a guy Joe would hope the Bucs give serious thought to. Yeah, he wasn’t much with the Bucs — another lazy Lovie Smith causality. But he seemed to have turned the corner — naturally, after he left the Bucs. Oh, and Melvin won’t break the bank. Remember, there’s that coveted Accountants Cup trophy (most salary cap space) the Bucs are still in the running for!

There are also good running backs on the table, such as Carlos Hyde, though Dion Lewis and Isaiah Crowell have new teams.

It’s not totally gloom and doom yet, provided Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht can find a decent player on the open market who actually wants to play for a team usually entrenched into Buccaneers Cove (last place in the NFC South).

poe, gaines, and vaccaro would be nice

  2. Lamarcus Says:

This is the ‘buyers beware” group of free agents. This is where we get burnt on this tier.

  3. JonBuc Says:

Licht it up….Licht weight…or Licht’s out? What’ll it be 24 hours from now?

  4. JonBuc Says:

No one on this list is that exciting to be honest. Suh came in the league like and as a Lion…where does it go from here for the once promising DT?

  5. Rod Munch Says:

It’s hard getting people to come to Tampa when players know Licht and Dirk are most likely fired at the end of the next season. Unless you want to overpay guys like Jacksonville did, then they’re not coming, they’ll go somewhere else where they think the coach/gm will be around for a while.

Anywho I said it before and I’ll say it again, Licht is a strong believer in that 3 third rate free agents = 1 first rate free agent, so we’ll see who is still on the scrap bin in a few days and from there you’ll see some signings. Unless of course this is all a master plan to get a 7th round comp pick next year – if Sims and Pamphile and some other guys all sign with other teams, we could be in line for that pick!

  6. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Trollslayer

Agreed, at least 2 of those guys.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

I have some bad news… Ryan Smith is currently the #2 corner on the depth chart.

  8. Not there yet Says:

You could sign them all and still be the little fish in a big overall as far as playoff talent goes.

  9. denjoe Says:

Guess they think, they are fine now with just resigning grimes.WTF

  10. tmaxcon Says:

Typical glazer inaction or when they do act it will be left overs, has beens and injury prone gambles mixed dented can aisle garbage… those are buccaneer men

4-12 just the way the glazers want it. Keep the basement streak alive

  11. Pepsi Says:

Clayborn is better than what we have right now. Objectively, he would be a fine signing at this point. Simply put, clayborn is an upgrade over gholston.

  12. Tbbucs3 Says:

Kenny Vacarro would add a nice hard hitting presence in our soft cupcake secondary

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    Adrian Clayborn? Please!

    Joe

At least he has one signature game in his career that’s more than your man crush captain blowout cancer93 has

  14. Eric Says:

My guess is we won’t get a single name on that list. I can see me rooting for the 49ers this year. At least they have a former Buc great as GM, most of all they have hope. Oh and A BETTER QB, BETTER D LINE , BETTER O LINE, BETTER DEFENSE, BETTER COACHES!

  15. Eric Says:

Hope has officially left the building. Bucs fans ,we have been left hanging. I ihate Licht.

  16. LakeLand Says:

I love the moves that Cleveland, Jacksonville, Jets, Titans have made so far.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, Muhammad Wilkerson only got $5m? I wasn’t big on signing Wilkerson but that’s because I thought he’d get a fairly large deal from someone, I didn’t realize he’d be way cheaper than Gholston.

  18. mike10 Says:

Status wow since the end of season. Little improvement w/ coaching and so far none from Free Agency. I’m not sure where this franchise gets off thinking there is no need for improvement.

  19. JayBucBoi Says:

Man, we have the best fans don’t we Joe!?!

  20. tmaxcon Says:

    JayBucBoi

The last positive transaction glazers made was firing the one dimensional ignorant fool dungy…. Not much for a bucfan to be positive about

  21. BucTrooper Says:

The only acceptable explanations for sitting on your hands in FA is they’re trading up on draft day OR they’re working a trade for PIT Bell. I agree w/ T-Kras… you keep the entire coaching staff -1 guy on a 5-11 team and you bring in NO top-tier FAs, you HAVE to make a splash considering you had the gall to raise ticket prices.

  22. Pepsi Says:

Ryan Jensen isn’t on that list but he should be. That would be one of the best signing we could do right now.

  23. Bucsfan1988 Says:

Still some decent talent out there!! Ryan Jensen for center, and move Marpet back to RG…cut or try & trade Sweezy for a 6th/7th rounder….Gimme Josh Sitton for LG if we don’t get Jensen. I’ll take either Gaines or Melvin for upgrade at corner…Definitely gotta have Poe for d-tackle!!! And then I’ll have Mckinnon as the 3rd down RB role…Good runner & pass-catcher and doesn’t do the tippy-toe stuff a la Simms…dude hits the hole!! Snag Okafor as a DE in rotation & maybe Curry when Eagles release him.

  24. NFLNut Says:

    GAINES
    VACCARO
    POE
    HYDE
    JENSEN

ALL 5 OF THE ABOVE ARE GUYS WE SHOULD AT LEAST BE INTERESTED IN …

  25. delson Says:

This offseason is stinky cheese. Suh would make this dline instantly better but we dont have the nuts to add him to our team. Suh and mccoy damn shame. Last year it was calias and mccoy… I dont see us drafting all our needs in one year. I dont see our backups becoming seasoned pros in one or 2 offseasons. The good teams have plug and play guys until they can draft that position. Vets and draft picks offset the salary cap but what the hell do we know we havent had a competant team to manage and when we did we let all the pieces fall apart. #clevelandbrownsofthenfc

  26. Rod Munch Says:

tmaxcon – Remember a few months after 9/11 when that kid flew a little plane into the Bank of America building in downtown Tampa and all he did was kill himself and break a window. Well your attempts at saying anything interesting or non-boring is about as effective as that kids terrorist attack.

  27. Nwbucfan Says:

I don’t understand the Clayborne hate joe. He brings passion always. And as you always say, he had more sacks than anyone on our team last year…

  28. Rod Munch Says:

delson – Currently starting next to McCoy is Tu’ikolovatu, the guy who will be 27 at the start of the season and has never played a down in the NFL. How can you not have faith in him?!?

The Bucs will sign someone obviously, but yeah, Suh lining up next to McCoy would make Ayers, Spence and Gholston a lot better.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

Nwbucfan – Clayborn had the same number of sacks in one game as our leading sack guy had for the entire year… which is the problem, take away 6 sacks versus Dallas and he had 3.5 sacks for the rest of the year. As Atlanta made it’s playoff run down the stretch Clayborn had 1.5 sacks in the last 7 games. He’s not a pass rusher, he just had a huge single game when the Cowboys when the Cowboys refused to block him.

  30. bucs_365 Says:

We’re talking like all these deals are done. Technically, in the legal tampering period, coming to agreements is prohibited… So nothing is a done deal yet… And the sky’s not falling.

  31. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Licht blew one of the rarest off-seasons in NFL history, where a slew of under 27 Pro Bowlers were made available on the cheap. for the Bucs to not strike and land at least one of them simply shows how inadequate Licht is at making a splash.

While the 11-5 teams continue to make bold moves, this 5-11 team is all about the status quo.

IF HE HAD FIXED THE TRENCHES, HE WOULD HAVE FIXED THE BUCS!!

  32. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucs_365

You are dead wrong the sky fell 16 years ago after bucs last meaningful win. 4-12 is optimistic but on a positive note the basement streak is alive and well

  33. Realbucfan Says:

Duh, and Wilkerson. We need nasty on this defense, front load thier contracts, and watch opposing qbs, rbs, and offensive coordinators go Holy S***, we need to be conservative, can’t get anyone hurt. Seriously, Mo Wilkerson, Suh, McCoy, and Spence/Ayers, someone tell me that doesn’t make you drool. That’s 2002 bucs D-line.

  34. Marc Says:

“Accountants Cup Trophy” LOL, good one Joe.

  35. tmaxcon Says:

    Realbucfan

Wilkerson already signed elsewhere…. It’s impossible to have a passionate driven nasty dline with the cryin clown big softee included. Can’t win with soft heartless quitters like cancer93

  36. TrollSlayer Says:

the only cancer around here is tmaxcon AKA tmaxcancer AKA GMAC’s secret admirer just come out of the closet and confess your love for him already tmax we all know your obsessed with him so much you have his poster on your ceiling right next to the josh freeman as michael jackson pin-up

  37. Chris in WA Says:

Is Adrian Clayborn better than Will Gholston and Robert Ayers Jr? If yes, then get him. Will we have to pay him more than he is worth? Yeah but when our DE’s are so terrible and Chubb won’t fall to us in the draft barring a crazy trade then you have to get guys like Clayborn. In the two seasons for the Bucs when he was healthy he had 7.5 sacks and 3 FF in his rookie 2011 season and 5.5 sacks and 2 FF in 2013. Let’s see what what coach Buckner can squeeze out of him it’s not like he is talentless.

Doing nothing at DE would be the more worse than overpaying for Clayborn in my opinion. The Bucs are just that bad at DE currently.

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    Trollslayer

Your Just another low standard nuthugging fan of a POS career loser… results prove it… Can’t win with her thats proven too

  39. Realbucfan Says:

And Bretson Buckner can and WILL handle Mo Wilkerson and Suh.

  40. Realbucfan Says:

Did not know Mo signed, than Richardson can play DE, or even Ealy. Coach Buckner can get this play outta questionable guys, guarantee it.

  42. tmaxcon Says:

Nice list of garbage players…. that does fit the glazer business model of leftovers has beens and injury prone gambles

The glass was emptied 16 years ago. Reality is a mutha f^^ker

you come off like a pimple-faced virgin who couldnt get a woman to like you if your life depended on it and was probably the most bullied kid in high school and one of those guys who had his head flushed down the toilet daily by the football team so your way of getting back at all of them is acting like a know-it-all cyberbully who in reality is in love with the things he hates the most in this case being gerald mccoy who probably reminds you of the man who gave you a wedgie every day after first period and stole your lunch money and made you eat dried dog turds from the grass before you got on the bus we all know your a loser troll whos just a big dork in real life so give it a rest and keep polishing your mccoy bobbleheads because it will never happen for you bro you will be alone and miserable the rest of your life no one already likes you dont make it tougher than it already is for you and we will all be laughing at you like carrie on her prom date anyways

Keep deflecting fool ill keep going back to the only thing that matters SCOREBOARD

CANCER93 has not a singhle meaningful game in his pathetic career. His soft approach and piss poor attempts at leadership is an embarrassment to nfl and men in general…

Bucs have never won a single meaningful game with her wearing the C and they never will.

  47. tmaxcon Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

That’s the dented can aisle of players three tiers below what bucs need to escape basement.

  48. Nwbucfan Says:

Rod munch I remember the game. I remember it was a backup tackle. But watch his film. He always seems to be a force. I often see him getting in the backfield disrupting the play. I hardly see the same energy from anyone on our d line. I really liked him when he was here. And I just don’t understand why joe hates on him. He’s leagues better than any of our ends. I don’t see any reason why joe would scoff at the idea of bringing a solid d lineman to Tampa.

Hope has officially left the building. Bucs fans ,we have been left hanging. I ihate Licht.

    Well said sir.
We actually had opportunities to acquire some talent- that would have improved this team.
We had the money. We had the resources. We could of outbid any other team, to get talent that we needed
    Just didnt have the desire.

5-11. Same bad coaches. Same horrible DEs. Only Two CBs( I think Ryan Smith is developing in to a decent CB, but VH3 is a bust)
Still plan on leaving Marpet at Center- a waste of his talent.
Still no replacement for Pamphile, who is better as a backup
    Just unsurmountable weaknesses
    And of course, terrible coaches

How are to believe this team cares about getting better, when it obviously doesnt

  50. firethecannons Says:

    we need a culture change
    we need Kong Suh

  51. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    tmaxcon

    True

    But U there’s just enough loose change…
    …where U can slap some lipstick on this pig;
and have her looking half – a$$ presentable around company.

LEO Noah Spence | *Aaron Lynch
LDE Gerald McCoy | *Ra’Shed Hageman
NT Bennie Logan | *Tyrunn Walker
RDE William Gholston | *Kony Ealy

LILB Lavonte David | Devante Bond
RILB Kwon Alexander | Adarius Glanton
ROLB Kendell Beckwith | *Kareem Martin

CB Brent Grimes | Vernon Hargreaves
CB *E.J Gaines | Ryan Smith
CB *Ross Cockrell | Javien Elliott

FS Chris Conte | *Armani Watts
SS Justin Evans | *Kenny Vaccarro

  52. LUVMYBUCS Says:

But there’s just enough loose change…

  53. M.B.F.G Says:

If not for Dungy the Bucs would have never even gotten a ring he changed this organization @ tmax but I do agree with everything else and you’re great

  54. GhostofSchiano Says:

Looks like Licht is waiting by the clearance rack, while the other NFC south teams are at the high end shelves. #FIRELICHT

  55. darin Says:

Get Jensen and at least have a real center, allowing marpet back to his ways. Then maybe get Sitton. Oline set and draft is all D. Cmon licht do something, even if its wrong

  56. Bird Says:

Ej Gaines now has competition with other teams so that one may be tight.

They better throw whatever they can at Jensen and/or sitton

Sounds like McKinnon to bucs is done deal.

  57. Keshaun Says:

    – Jericho McKinnon
    – Josh Sutton
    – Adrian Clayborn
    – Dontari Poe
    – EJ Gaines

Total money spent here would probably be $30 – $35 million and they’re definitely not players who will turn the organization around, but they are players who can help now and hopefully improve as they learn in Tampa.

  58. FutureBucsGM Says:

I would love to get Suh and isn’t Star Lotuleilei available?

  59. FutureBucsGM Says:

Don’t want McKinnon if it’s going to take us away from drafting a back.

  60. Buc4life Says:

Suh is my hope as long as we don’t have to guarantee him much over 20. As long as the contract would only screw us next year if he poops the bed. He’s the only real game changer that was let go this year IMO

  61. Destinjohnny Says:

    4-12

  62. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  63. OneBuC55 Says:

I had a dream we signed Suh…Him and McCoy would immediately be the best DT tandem in the league…

  64. El_Buc941 Says:

I think we either get Poe or Suh along with Gaines.joe isn’t Lagarette Blount a FA also?

  65. Tval Says:

Aj mccarron is a BUM and no fit behind jameis. Rather have fitz on the cheap. No nigel bradham? He was phillys best lb, before hicks went down, and beau allen and p robinson are GREAT role players

    Yes to blount as well

  68. Capt.Tim Says:

    The Jets
    The damn Jets
Signed CB Tramaine Johnson and RB Isaiah Crowell.
    Unbelievable
Thst would have helped this team
Instead, the Bucs are holding press conferences- celebrating resigning guys already in the Lockerroom.

They had to wait til this week to resign them. That way it looks like they are doing something- when they really aren’t.

    Such crap.

  69. Easy Says:

  70. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    🙂 🙂 funny @Joe, so funny.

Good morning Buc faithful, ….who does everyone like for the Bucs from the Rotoworld list?

    Go Bucs!

  71. mark2001 Says:

Well, the Packers signed Wilkerson…a DE….as they only had a middle of the road pass rush. Has he signed in Tampa, it would have meant an early retirement…but in Green Bay, he will likely play like Peppers did there a few years. It is all about culture…and the culture in Tampa stinks.

  72. mark2001 Says:

El…. you are dreaming…unfortunately. Looks like we will have to strain the toilet bowl to find some FA for Tampa Bay this year. I know…we don’t need any FA’s…we have Glanton.
