Michael Bennett Brings “Leadership”

March 7th, 2018

Essential qualities.

The report that Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett — who the Bucs let go for no good reason — may be reunited with his old Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in Atlanta has the NFL Network folks hot and bothered.

And it has Joe wanting to puke all over himself.

And for the folks that don’t want Bennett to help save the Bucs because of his politics, well, they might just choke on their orange juice this morning when they read the following.

The Dixie Chicks may need Bennett for his leadership.

That is the word from former stud defensive end and Super Bowl winner DeMarcus Ware. Now a talking head on NFL Network, Ware believes Bennett brings needed leadership to the Dixie Chicks, documents Alex Makrides of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“When you can bring leadership to a young team when they already have Dan Quinn there, and he’s already gotten them to the NFC Championship twice, now I just think if you can get a guy that is versatile, can play defensive end, play tackle — you have Vic Beasley, you have Grady Jarrett, they also have Takk McKinley — so you have all those guys that can play, bring them together and they will have that pressure defense they want,” Ware said.

(Quinn has not taken the Dixie Chicks to the NFC title game twice. How did an Atlanta paper not catch that?)

Joe doesn’t doubt Bennett brings leadership. Joe was around Bennett enough years ago to know he’s a willing team guy.

But how does a team that has been one play from a Super Bowl win, and arguably one play from an NFC title game seven weeks ago, need leadership? Joe would suggest they already have the requisite leadership to go deep in the playoffs.

If the Bucs, dying for any sort of pass rush, allow Bennett to get to a division foe and harass and hound and possibly maim America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, twice a year, Joe just might have a mental breakdown.

It would be no less than unconscionable.

This simply cannot be allowed to happen.

,, I read Michael Bennett brings a big mouth they want to quiet down their locker room that’s why they’re getting rid of his big mouth

  2. Joeypoppems Says:

“This simply cannot be allowed to happen.”

I have no faith in Licht to do anything about it tho lol

  3. Defense Rules Says:

‘Unconscionable’ Joe?’ “Simply cannot be allowed to happen”? Of course it can happen. This is the Bucs Express, owned by the Glazer Boyz & operated by Jason the Engineer. Last thing they want is someone like Michael Bennett hopping on-board & causing a ruckus.

  4. darin Says:

I hope they plan on improving the pass rush somehow. I cant see mike smith doing anything different on D after 2 years. If theyre planning on doing it all in the draft theyre not gona be here next year this time. Quinn should be here amd Bennett should be on his way. That would have set them up nicely for FA and the draft.

  5. 2Anglican1609 Says:

Leadership and Michael Bennett cannot exist in the same sentence

  6. Hodad Says:

By the time this team is ready to win Bennett will be past his prime if he isn’t already. If Seattle can trade him God bless them. At least call their bluff, and see if he’s cut. The Hawks could be throwing the Falcon rumor out there themselves to get a sucker like Licht to bite. Trade for a guy you cut years ago makes no sense.

  7. ZK Says:

    F Bennett

  8. tmaxcon Says:

    2Anglican1609

You have Bennett confused with the career loser and undisputed face of the basement years the cryin clown cancer93

  9. BucEmUp Says:

The thing is if he goes.to.Atlanta he will give them his all and stick.it to us. If he comes here he will mail it in.

    Bucs Life

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

He brings a lot of drama and is a divisive individual.

  11. LOL Says:

PPL mad about Michael Bennett’s silent protest with the kneeling smh.. get over it! I want this guy on the team just to piss off the racists

  12. Bucnjim Says:

Yep he will lead them right to the slammer! You think the cops in Atlanta think highly of him? That’s a laugh! He has disrespected anyone who protects and serves. Seattle may have looked out for him but no other city will. Don’t J walk there Mr. Bennett!

  13. Bucnjim Says:

Yep he will lead them right to the slammer! You think the cops in Atlanta think highly of him? That’s a laugh! He has disrespected anyone who protects and serves. Seattle may have looked out for him but no other city will. Don’t J walk there Mr. Bennett!

  14. IsrBuc Says:

But you’ll keep saying how much you love Licht and Koetter.
Nvm they bull***t us with their answers at the combine, nvm the Doug Martin saga (btw, why wont you tell us what you think happened there? I know you can’t explain why they let him on the field but there must be a reason, isn’t it? some reason. whatever it is. what do you think is it? ) and all the bull***t going on (I think you completely wrong with your Licht evaluation. Its not the guys he drafted, its the guys he could but didn’t draft) – you still say you love the reigeme.
    WHY?

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

Let Atlanta trade a bundle for him!!!! Is Joe afraid of bennett???? I thought we had the mighty D. Smith at Tackle!!!!!!! Has Joe lost faith in D. Smith??????

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!

  16. tmaxcon Says:

It’s funny you cancer93 nuthuggers attack a successful winner with a ring yet make excuse after excuse for a career loser who has never won a single meaningful game in his ENTIRE CAREER…. low standard bucfan never ceases to amaze me with ignorance and thier laundry list of excuse after excuse to justify losing

  17. Carl Newsome Says:

Jason Licht passes on everybody we need
something is deadwrong. Joe knows what I’m talking about. If somethings not right its wrong, Bob Dylan said. When smitty was retained I was sick.Buckner would probably make a better DC with no exp. Sad with weapons on offense ,plenty of cap room and habitual high draft picks 2nd rd kicker

  18. MadMax Says:

Na, he’s made his millions and is more focused on “making white people uncomfortable”…. so let him…..and it would make me uncomfortable if he came back to this team because I know he’s reeling it in now will probably take it easy now. I could be wrong, we’ll see.

  19. LOL Says:

We had 22 sacks as a team last year and ppl on here saying not to pick up Bennett over his stance on racial issues in America smh.. dont be mad at this guy for kneeling for something he believes needs to be addressed. Most of this fan base is just as dumb as the ppl at ONE BUC PLACE running the show

  20. MadMax Says:

@lol, i stopped caring about the silent protests you refer to with our team…..now if there was a popular white football player who wrote a book titled “things that make black people uncomfortable” HAHAHA! that would lead the friggin press in 24 hour lead story coverage until the guy was banned from ever playing again…..double standard defined!

  21. MadMax Says:

LOL, racism goes both ways…..i dont like it, my asian girl dont like it, my black friends dont like it.

  22. tmaxcon Says:

Taking a player serious is similar to bashing your views on a prhetuc Hollywood wanna be

  23. LOL Says:

@MadMax not a double standard at all.. you are just looking at the WHITE/BLACK aspect of it and not what the issue is really about. There is oppression for minorities in this country and if you can sit here and type that there isnt then you are just a fool. Be real with yourself step outside your lil bubble you live in and you will see that its all over the place. I’m interested in him as a football player who gives a damn about the protests! As a fanbase you should want this team to get better and Bennett makes us better.

  24. Bucnjim Says:

If he is so good why is Seattle done with him? It’s either his mouth or age is catching up. The Seahawks don’t just send good players walking out the door

  25. Bird Says:

He is under contract and Seahawks will want to trade for picks. Why would Seahawks want to trade to a team that is better than them and has represented the NFC recently in Super Bowl. Atlanta is far superior team and Seahawks want to make them better? Unless Seahawks are truly rebuilding and GM Schneider has soft spot for Atlanta coach.

Dunno how that would go down with macdill being in Tampa and bennetts prior and likely future kneeling .

Just don’t know anymore. Just afraid we go after a bunch of second tier guys (aka swaggy like last year ) and miss out on all the fun.

Licht has to know that this could be his last chance as GM for a while -and/or ever. Gotta show his hand here soon and go all in.

  26. Bird Says:

Just imagine if licht doesn’t make any bold moves in free agency and focuses on draft.

“Siege my pay ” for one more year and that could end my run of season tickets.

  27. MadMax Says:

Maybe it is where you’re from….i dont see it where I am….in my 40’s worked in many blue collar 30K-60k manufacturing jobs, usually 50/50 white-black ratio and we all get along pretty well. I know who i can be cool with and who to leave alone. I grew up in mostly poor black neighborhoods as a kid and have lived through poverty myself as one. I dont know where you are. Im talking about the upstate of SC and born in the 70’s buddy. I have nothing to do with the oppression or stuff that was happening before I could legally come of age to voice and vote my take on it. But go ahead and take the easy way out of this by resorting to name calling and soon the “fool” will turn into r a c i s t because thats the usual way this goes…..and im not having it. Enjoy your day.

  28. Bucnjim Says:

Mad Max, well said! I’m not naive enough to say it doesn’t exist but in 2018 it is very rare. Bennett on the other hand almost ruined the lives of some great men to try and further his agenda. If it wasn’t for some good camera work and the fact that the arresting officers ended up being Latino that screwed up his good acting job……His hatred for cops can stay in Seattle where it belongs.

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

    I don’t want him….for personal reasons

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucnjim

At least you consistent in giving free passes cancer93 and police.

  31. The Buc Realist Says:

I don’t want an old declining player as a free-agent!!!! Let alone trade a valuable draft pick for that fool!!!!!! I think some want him here because he would be at least 1 easy story a week, if he was on the roster!!!!!!

I want to see the D-line fixed!!!!! not a guy that might try to squeeze one more year of production, or trying to get his last check in the nfl!!!! And we can’t say that football is his #1 priority anymore!!!!!!

Every year that NFL GM Licht has deemed a position as the biggest weakness, he has hit it hard in the draft, and I expect no difference this time!!!!!

And if they Trade GMC and go all in to fixing the D-line, the “real” fans will give the coaches a 2 year pass to fix this!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. LOL Says:

@madmax maybe where i’m from? lol Maybe you dont see it because it just doesnt affect you or maybe because you’re not black? that might be why you dont see it. Not all black ppl are looking for a hand out. Just like in every race there are the hard workers, the ones who want free stuff, criminals, good guys, etc. I’m not taking any easy way out at all. This is just something that white men would never get. Most white men could give a rats ass about oppression to blacks lets just be real. Then on top of that you have black men getting paid millions to play a game another thing that doesn’t sit well with you all. The first thing you mentioned was he is “too focused on trying to make white’s uncomfortable” well sir actually that book is already done and going to be released soon so you are wrong there as well. Keep living in that bubble sir. Have a great day

  33. MadMax Says:

Thanks Bucnjim, and yeah it exists on all sides. I go through it too but I dont care as long as they’re not close and important to me. People will have their opinions and their judgments. The ones you care about the most are what matters….well unless you’re pushing an agenda, and that can go from close to the home in laws to the wide spectrum of politically biased group think.

  34. Mr. Ed Says:

“No good reason” = Mark Dumbonik, the worst general manager in the history of the Bucs (which is saying something). He was such a rock star that no team wants him at all. Because he sucked.

No good reason? Well I guess that’s right. Dumoronik let Bennett go for a no good reason named DaQuan Bowers. Brilliant.

  35. MadMax Says:

LOL, and now you’re trying to put words in my mouth and thoughts in my mind that I never said or thought…..see that, thats how this always goes.

  36. MadMax Says:

Are you being oppressed LOL, is there anything I can say to help? Im not being sarcastic to you either. I do care.

  37. Ramon Sanchez Says:

We don’t need Michael Bennett we just need tradeJames Winston Mike Evans to the Browns for their both of their first-round picks and their second then we go get Bradley Chubbs Saquon Barkley then we trade down couple spots for another second round take Lamar Jackson now we’re in a good spot 3 second round draft choices they’ll give us 6 good players then we won’t have to worry about paying Jamie Winston or Mike Evans, Evans might leave next year there’s a lot of good players in this draft we could snag up o line wide receiver two cornerbacks safety plus we have a third round we need to be real is Jameis Winston ever going to stop fumbling the ball throwing interceptions

  38. MadMax Says:

@Mr. Ed and that big contract eric wright (cb from detroit) got. that was probably the worst db signing ever.

  39. bucfan999 Says:

Not the kind of leadership we want or need. We don’t need a anthem kneeling, cop baiting player as a leader to young impressionable minds on out defense. NO NO NO NO on Bennett

  40. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Bucs are in building mode
    Falcons are a playoff team
It makes sense for a veteran quality player with experience with coaching staff to go there.
One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result
Trading draft picks for free agents has put the Bucs in the mess they’re in…
Politics aside, build through the draft!

  41. crazy Says:

really? a leader? He is a liar, selfish all about me athelete. people tend to forget when he left Tampa what came out. Tampa at the time offered him what they felt was market 6-7 million a year. he said not way wanted double digits. he went out to free agency and found little interest. my guess is due to his vocal reputation. he ended up signing much later at Seahawks for 5 million, epic genius! Tampa does not need a liar , self centered non team and mathematical idiot like him!

  42. martinii Says:

Michael Bennett is old news, get over him and move on.

  43. Bucsfanman Says:

He’s a football player which makes him an entertainer. His views do not have to mirror your own, that’s what makes this country “great”, right?
The question you need to ask is “can he play?” If the answer to the question is “yes” (which it is!) then why do you care about his views? He’s an individual. You root for a team. This is an issue with Buc fans.
Sign him if you think he helps the TEAM. Otherwise, stop crying about the individual.
    So what if he’s a head-case! At least he’s not a criminal!

  44. LakeLand Says:

Atlanta has some good, young, quality edge rushers in Tak McKinley and Vic Beasley. And they have a good young DT in Grady Jarrett. Adding Michael Bennett make a lot of sense. He brings valuable veteran leadership to the DL.

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I hope we get him, just to end the “Michael Bennett — who the Bucs let go for no good reason” phrase from being used here all the time, lol.

    Well, that and he’d rock.

  46. 813bucboi Says:

    YALL CRAZY!!!!!!

I hope Bennett goes to ATL and gets 10+sacks next year……trashing a man because of his political views is the dumbest thing ever……

as much as I would love to have you Bennett, don’t pick tampa…..you have 1 bad game like GMC did vs dallas and these some called fans will be down your throat trying to send you packing…..go to ATL or NO or CAR so you can show the bucs how stupid they are while we wish we had your services…..good luck Bennett!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!!

  47. Robert Says:

title is funny as heck. he will continue his career following CK out of the nfl unless some team has a lack of whiners on their roster.

  48. 813bucboi Says:

they need bennetts leadership because they are all young on defense……Keanu neal….brian poole….vic….grady….tak…dion jones….are all still on their rookie deals…..

they need a little veteran leadership on defense…..Quinn trust Bennett….he knows what he brings to the table and Bennett respect DQ….perfect fit imo…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!

  49. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You guys are so funny. You guys really truly think you know more about Michael Bennett (whom you’ve never met) than the people in the NFL who know him?!?! That’s hilarious, but typical I guess And did some jack wagon really imply that Seattle is trying to get rid of him because they want the locker room quieter? Hahahahaahhaha. Apparently you have no idea who Pete Carroll is, but keep believing what you want. Regardless if you believe in what he stands (or kneels) for, Bennett is a team guy. His teammates love him. He is productive, and stays relatively healthy. He’s 10 times better than any end we have on this team. If you don’t like his politics, don’t buy his jersey. Don’t stand outside the stadium trying to get his autograph. It’s pretty simple. Why do you have expectations that everyone on a 53 man team should be the same as you? Doesn’t that contradict what this country is all about? It’s his right to do what he wants to do. Not to mention the fact that Bennett’s father was in the military, and Bennett has done numerous events for the military. But you guys are all butt hurt because he sits for the anthem (the same anthem most of you run to the bathroom and to get nachos during). Talk about fake patriots! You just watch him go to Atlanta and tear it up for them while you’re busy pretending you care about what someone does during the national anthem that you never pay attention to.

  50. tnew Says:

Totally depends on what the Bucs would have to give up for him. Back when Joe was saying he was getting released, I wanted to start the discussion regarding what was his trade value. Bennett is not getting released.

Some of you just don’t want him here, I respect, but disagree with that opinion. But I also am not in favor or doing whatever it takes to keep him out of Atlanta.

I would be in favor of giving up both 6’s, or a 6 and swapping 5ths, but I don’t see giving up a 5th or better. HIs film is still good, tho he looks a lot like Ayers the year that we acquired him. I’ve watched about 8 games on him now, Bennett works well on the inside and out, good against pass and run, but he would’ve been a 4 sack guy on the Bucs last season. Half are coverage style sacks (nothing against him at all, they still count). Not sure the Bucs had one of those. Saying “he had 8.5 sacks last year and the Bucs had no-one with that many so expect that from him with the Bucs, is like saying Gholston would’ve had 4 with the Seahawks last season. In both cases, things are possible, but in reality, neither happen most likely.

  51. The Buc Realist Says:

So Joe’s and the sheep’s plan is to trade a pick/ or picks for a old DE that will be 33 this season and is clearly declining and have him next to the injured and clearly declining for 3 straight years GMC??????? That is some plan!!!!!! It will just lead to next year saying how they should have just blown up the D-line!!!!

If this teams makes the Bold moves and works to fix the D-line, then the “real” fans will give the coaching staff a two year pass!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  52. Anthony Says:

Lol when the Bucs let Bennet go, joe praised the move.
Joe thought the Bucs pulled on over because news of Bennett’s bum shoulder shortly followed.
Fast forward five years and joe has a case of acute amnesia.

  53. Anthony Says:

Not sure where/when all this “for no good reason” talk started for joe. Joe praised the move five years ago

  54. EdJustShootmeBucsFan Says:

Bennett only knelt after he ran from the police when they wanted to question him and they took him down. He didn’t care about BLM or any of that stuff until he ran from the police and they caught him. Bennett is several problems waiting to happen.

  55. NFLNut Says:

    Leadership? Hahahahahaha; no!

  56. 813bucboi Says:

    @REALIST

who was the last 6rd pick to provide an impact to our team?……..we just cut a 5th rounder last……we only have 1 player that we’ve drafted in the 6th round on our roster from the past 4 years….

    2014-robert herron
    2015-dan vitale
2016-devonta bond-still on roster for now
2017- traded pick to the jets

you crying about trading a 6th round pick that we haven’t gotten production out of in 4years and counting……

not getting Bennett would be another nail in this staffs coffin!!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  57. Bucsfanman Says:

@Realist- I lost count. How many years are you now giving this regime?!
Who said anything about trading for Bennett? Like GMC, he probably won’t fetch much more than a 5th rounder. That’s money well spent IMO.

  58. OneBucPerson Says:

If accusing cops of racial profiling when no such incidence occurred and taking cheaps shots at players knees counts as leadership then bring it on baby.

  59. donuts Says:

We can all stop talking about Bennett now….he is an EAGLE.
