Dominik Outlines A Giants Trade-Down Desire

March 20th, 2018

Former Bucs GM weighs in on the trade Bucs fans desire.

Cries of ecstasy will ring out from Lakeland to Largo and through the streets of downtown Bradenton if the New York Giants trade the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft to the quarterback-yearning Buffalo Bills.

That deal would ensure another coveted QB would be off the draft board when the Bucs are scheduled to pick at No. 7 overall. It might be the only chance the Bucs have to score running back Saquon Barkley, defensive end Bradley Chubb or guard Quenton Nelson in the draft.

So what would it take for the Bills, a team loaded with draft picks, to convince the Giants to deal?

Former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik was hit with that question by a Bills fan today on SiriusXM NFL radio. Dominik is a frequent co-host and always is as prepared as any analyst in the game.

Dominik said the Bills would have to cough up their No. 12 overall pick, their No. 22 overall pick, plus their best second-round pick (No. 53 overall) “and something small.”

What that “small” thing might be is unclear. But it shouldn’t matter. The Bills have been positioning themselves all year to trade up, so why would they quibble about an extra pick when they’re desperate for a QB? Tyrod Taylor was recently traded to the Browns for the first pick of the third round.

Of course, the Giants might have no interest in dealing, but it’s got to be awfully enticing for a new general manager Dave Gettleman to have what amounts to three first-round picks in his opening draft.

Get it done, Bills!

Be there for Thursday’s Round 1. Arrive early. Return for Rounds 2 and 3 the following day.

    Ecstacy? Where?!

  2. Lamarcus Says:

If I was Gettlemen I’ll do it just to try to screw with the Panthers

  3. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

More worried about the colts at this point. If the giants trade out it means the browns get Barkley at 4 and the colts get Chubb at 6. Still need to get to 5 imo

  4. B Coburn Says:

I can’t help but believe it’s wishful thinking that one of the best 3 non qb players will be there when we pick. Doesn’t really matter who trades what in My mind. The chances of 4 qbs going in the firSt 6 picks is almost 0. If the 3 non qb players are that good who is going to pass on them and pick another non qb? I mean we have had drafts where we had two top QBs were seen neck and neck and yet the 2nd one fell all the way to end of the 1st round

  5. tmaxcon Says:

maybe bucs can offer up cancer93 for a 7th round pick and he can be the “small” throw in to complete the deal. talk about addition by subtraction that would instantly give the bucs hope moving forward.

  6. Wausa Says:

I am convinced 4 of the first 5 picks will be QB’s regardless if the Giants trade their selection or not. However, if I am wrong and one is still available when the Bucs selection is up the Bucs will be able to get a kings ransom for their selection.

Either way the Bucs are in a great spot at pick #7.

  7. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Nah Mikey, we should absolutely not trade up. Far too many wholes on the roster for us to being doing a thing like that.

What we need is for 4 QB’s to go in the top 6, or 3 QB’s and a DB. Rumor has it that Denzel Ward is shooting up draft boards.

  8. miken Says:

Really weird. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. You have to figure the giants were 1st offered to trade back with the Jets and since the giants didn’t budge, the will take a qb? You don’t stay at 6 and take barkley when you are offered the 6 and 3 2’s. Or, the giants are playing poker and want both of the bills 1’s or a higher offer but there most likely won’t be a higher offer than what the jets gave up for 3 freaking spots. How sweet would it be if the giants stay and go qb and the 1st 3 picks are qb, then someone trades up to 4,5,or 6 and goes qb. 4 qbs in the top 6 would be awesome, then between ward, shaq, nelson, and chubb two of those guys would be there.

  9. We need a #40 Says:

Chubb is not worth trading up for. Stay put, unless your trading up for Barkley. Barkley is The only player worth the trade up from 7. Instant impact player. Chubb will need to develop more and rarely is a rookie edge rusher an instant impact. Stay at 7 take what is available or get a QB needy team to trade down with.

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

This time last year no one thought we had a chance at OJ Howard.

  11. Joe Blahak Says:

It’s Chubb or Nelson…no way Barkley gets to #7

  12. Bucs_in_Spain Says:

If the Giants stick at 2 they’re getting a QB. Eli isn’t getting any younger

  13. SCBucsFan Says:

miken I think despite the 100s of articles dissecting this in the end there will be multiple moves and surprises before 7 arrives

  14. SCBucsFan Says:

Bucs in Spain but if you pair Barkley, Engram and Beckham that a damn good core to go with a QB

  15. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @ MikeEvansGOAT…

You got it sir, Barkley would definitely go to the Browns at #4 in that and a lot of realistic scenarios now presenting themselves. I also contend that it’s still 50/50 or better that Gettleman stays there at #2 for win-now Manning, OBJ, and their signings in FA in on both sides of ball. SA-QUON does just that.

Which is why I again reiterate, we would have to go #1, and Cleveland can work out it’s own trade up from #4 (if necessary) to still get the QB they want.

Licht has to GO GET Barkley, no press his luck on #2 and #4 “not” taking him. ALL Barkley-grabbing fruit still intact in rounds 1-4 for 2018-2020.

Go Bucs! Go Barkley! Go Bold! Go Primetime!

  16. 813bucboi Says:

im a little more worried about the jets…..they resigned josh and added teddy…..pairing chubb with l.williams would be nasty…..

the more I think about it, the more I want nelson over chubb…..the oline would be set for years and hopefully benenoch can develop into a quality starting RT…..

nelson, chubb or try to trade down……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!

  17. Horse Liver Says:

Mark Dominik, the guy who went 28-52 as the Bucs GM, the guy who failed to keep Michael Bennett, gave Michael Clayton “the check’s in the bank” money, the genius who paid Revis $16 million to rehab a knee after trading a premum draft pick for someone the Jets were going to release anyway, one of the worst general managers in NFL history — he’s credible as a source for what a GM shouldn’t do.

I hope he’s right, and if he is, then the Giants will probably be looking for a new GM in a year or two. Then they can do “Mark and Dave” podcasts together.

  18. SOEbuc Says:

Barkley, Chubb, Nelson, Fitzpatrick will be at #7.

  19. SOEbuc Says:

*one or two will be at #7

  20. AlteredEgo Says:

    The variation of the day……

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Just a thought. There is a chance the Jets didn’t trade with the Giants because those two team really don’t like each other. At least I think so.

The Jets may have never even called the Giants

  22. SCBucsFan Says:

There is no way – no way – the Jets moved up to three, paying what they did, not to draft a QB. They missed on Hackenberg, they miss again and they are looking for a job.

  23. Eric Says:

Wrong draft to stockpile picks IMO. All these not so great QB’s are going high cause the other positions are a bit weak this year. And because some teams are desperate.

Bucs should try and move up and snag Barkley.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Joe….Come on let the cat out of the bag. You know you throw a Dominick comment into the mix whenever applicable just to throw us commenters a bone to fight over.

Somebody needs to come up with a good nickname for that era of BucBall BTW.

  25. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Carolina was foolish to let Dave Gettleman get away. As a Bucs fan, I am glad they did, because this new GM of the Panthers is nowhere near as good.
I can see Dave Gettleman of the Giants trading the number 2 pick, and stockpiling picks with Buffalo.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Mark Dominick doesn’t know jack…..he was a horrible GM….

I believe the Giants will stick and pick a QB……They can sit him behind Manning for a year or two…..if they wait, they will miss-out.

My gut tells me we should stick at 7 and pick the best player available….all would be positions of need……Minkah, Chubb, Barkley, Ward, Nelson…..it would be nice to have a choice.
If there aren’t 4 QBs picked in the top 6….then we should have a trading partner for one at 7.

  27. Joe Blahak Says:

I hate the trading up scenario but don’t like the RB class. Move on Barkley might be necessary…

  28. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Great win over new orleans, maybe that is why koetter was calling for a different play and not wanting jameis to shrug him off, so the bucs lose not get a horrible win

  29. Lord Cornelius Says:

If the Giants were shopping the pick then why not make the deal that the Colts just did?

I’d imagine the Giants are sold on a prospect; whether it be QB/Barkley/Nelson. I’d be a bit surprised by Chubb. Chubb is great but from everything I’ve read he’s not a generational talent as much as he’s the best pure 4-3 DE in this class. I don’t even think he’s the best pure pass rusher when you have Harold Landry in the class as well.

So basically – I’d be a bit shocked by a Giants trade at this point; unless it was to pick #4 and only because they were fine taking a Nelson or a Barkley; but I’m thinking they finally pick Eli’s successor at 2.

    1-QB
    2-QB
    3-QB
    4-Barkley
    5-Nelson
    6-Chubb
7-trade down to 11,12,13,15, 16, or 17 with any team that wants Mayfield or Allen.

I’d be absolutely shocked if in that scenario there is not a big trade market for our pick. We’d be the first team that is actually willing to trade down; since the Browns/Broncos/Colts would be locked in on Barkley/Nelson/Chubb. And that’s 6 teams picking 11-17 that all could use QB:

Dolphins – not sold on Tannehil and there’s been rumors
Bills – obvious candidate in this scenario and most likely trade partner – they will be going QB in this draft it’s just a matter of how they get there
Redskins – they have Smith but could want a more long term answer – not as likely
Cardinals – Sam Bradford / Mike Glennon? You really think they think that’s the future?
Ravens – I’ve read both the Ravens/Steelers are looking at QBs. I could see Rudolph being the next Big Ben but maybe the Ravens get enamroed with one of the 4
Chargers – Rivers will turn 37 next season. I don’t see this as likely tho. I think they have a few more years with him.

In that scenario – if say 2-3 teams are in that bidding war; we should net another 2 and another 3 minimum – even if that’s slightly more than the trade value chart would state. The Jets gave up like 1200 points in 2nd round picks; vs the trade value chart showing only 600 point difference in #3 and #6.

Hell I could see the Bills giving up both their 2nd rounders and #12. Then we’d have 4 picks in the top 56, or 5 in the top 69; with tons of flexibility to go BPA at positions of need.

  30. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Joe Blahak

Although Barkley is the most physically gifted, and the clear front runner, this is still a very good draft for Running back.

Derrius Juice is likely to also go in the first round, is probably the most natural runner and the most physical back in the draft, and has tremendous vision. Where as Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, and Rashaad Penny are all starting caliber backs to be had on days 2-3.

  31. BucsFanFromSaintsLand Says:

The Browns WILL NOT draft Barkley at 4! This is a very good running back class. They have the top pick in the 2nd and a top 3 running back will probably be there just chillin. The Browns have an opportunity to get their top rated QB, their top rated defensive player, AND a top 3 running back! Makes more sense to me to draft defense at 4…..

  32. Lord Cornelius Says:

Ok well then the Colts or Broncos likely draft Barkley at 5 or 6. He’s been projected to the Giants / Browns / Colts / Broncos and all could use him. If he falls to 7 then sweet our run game is set lol

  33. LakeLand Says:

I already had the Bills trading up #2.

    1.Cleveland – Sam Darnold
    2.Buffalo – Josh Rosen
    3.New York Jets- Josh Allen
    4.Cleveland – Saquon Barkley
    5.Denver- Quenton Nelson
    6.Indianapolis- Bradley Chubb

  34. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Lord C

I don’t see the Browns taking Barkley at 4 considering they got Hyde in free agency, and they still have Duke Johnson as there 3rd down back. I see them taking Minkah Fitzpatrick or Denzel Ward.

They lost Joe Haden in free agency last year, and their current starting corners are 2 nobodies, and the only safety they have worth mentioning is Jabrill Peppers who kind of struggled to find a role last season.

I think we should definitely have a shot at one of the big 3 if the first 3 picks are all QB’s.

  35. Joeypoppems Says:

I dont think the Giants would trade out of the top 10. They are in a spot where they could either draft Eli’s successor or draft Nelson to further improve their OL.

They overpaid Solder and tried to sign Norwell. I would assume OL is high on their priority list.

If they trade out of the top 10 they lose both those options. Unless they fall in love with Lamar Jackson and/or another OG.

  36. Joeypoppems Says:

On a side note, when did the Bills get the Browns 2nd round pick?

  37. zzbuc Says:

Tmaxcon are you a stutterer? with all respect, you repeat Cancer 93 so many times is getting boring……….Everybody on this site knows you don’t like him, so as others….If its rainning? Cancer 93, If the coffee is cold …Cancer 93…….Come on men, show some love to the bucs…..We know you can…..

  38. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Wonder if the guys whining about us WINNING a game because they believe it cost us in the draft will finally let it go if one of the big three fall to us?

Again IMHO that was NOT a meaningless win. It showed a lot. Did Koetter still have his team’s focus. Where is Jameis head and arm? Did this team have the heart to compete in a meaningless game against a team that was hoping to clinch their division title. From the recap…

Trailing 24-23 with 1:58 remaining, Winston moved the Bucs (5-11) 95 yards in 11 plays for the winning TD.

He converted a fourth-and-10 from his own 5 yard line with a 12-yard completion to Cameron Brate and threw 9 yards to Mike Evans on third-and-1 to keep the drive going at the Tampa Bay 35.

The fourth-year pro found Godwin racing up the right sideline just ahead of Saints cornerback Ken Crawley to put the Bucs ahead for good with nine seconds remaining.

We ended the year on a WINNING note. See if you guys can figure out the difference. Winning is the opposite of losing! Did we not lose enough games to not need yet another loss? We have something to build on!

Let’s be honest…SERIOUSLY…this is why those of us who cheer for #3 believe he’s the answer. IF Fitz had done that it wouldn’t make you think…extend his contract look at our future…no you would have thought…wow Fitz pulled one out of his backside….go down any list of QB’s and there are few that complete 4th and 10 from their own five and another first down throw to lead their team to a come from behind win. With Jameis you not only believe he is capable of doing this again…multiple times over his career…but you feel certain he will do this again.

  39. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Can you guys not see the microcosm of the Buc’s offense in that single game.

Jameis…critical possession pass to Brate…another critical pass to ME13 and of course the TD bomb to Godwin. Those three targets are just NOW beginning to reach their prime.

It seems we are shoring up the OL…if we do that our running game improves and #3’s play action fakes work even better. We are on the way barring injuries or suspensions.

  40. Mike Johnson Says:

A smart team would have tanked that last game against the Saints. A Smart team mind you…….

  41. tmaxcon Says:

    zzbuc

i’ll show the bucs love when they stop embarrassing themselves week in and week out and field a respectable team of competitors and ship this career losing locker room cancers out of town.

raise your standards and stop giving free passes to dirtbag career losers

  42. LakeLand Says:

Dan Patrick say that the Jets, Broncos, Bills has contacted John Dorsey about the #1 pick and Dorsey is staying pat.

On Monday’s Dan Patrick Show, Dan Patrick said that the Buffalo Bills contacted the Browns about the top pick in the draft, in addition to the Jets.

And, not long after, NFL insider Benjamin Allbright reported that the Denver Broncos have also inquired about the No. 1 pick, with Allbright adding that, “Thus far the Browns have been a solid ‘no’ about trading the pick.”

  43. Pepsi Says:

This doesnt mean one of the big 3 will be at 7 still. Im looking at plenty of mocks right now that have Giants taking a QB, but Chubb, Nelson, and Barkley all going before 7 anyway.

  44. Kobe Faker Says:

    Hey Lake,

your Draft prediction is dead on

we have a shot at chubbs if denver goes Baker Mayfield and colts go nelsen to protect andrew luck

I think Arizona might trade up to denver or colts to get baker if he is available

  45. LakeLand Says:

I’m thinking teams are trying to trade up for Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen. But Cleveland want Sam Darnold. If the Giants don’t make the trade with the Bills, they make take Josh Rosen. That leaves the Jets with Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield. But that still leaves the Browns at 4, Broncos at 5, Colts at 6

The Browns will draft Barkley or Chubb at 4
The Broncos could draft Nelson, Allen, Mayfield
The Colts will draft Barkley or Chubb

If Buffalo can’t jump the Jets by moving to 2
Will they move to 4 and jump the Broncos

It seems to me like the Giants want that #2 pick and plan to take a QB despite all their statements to the contrary … they could have just dealt with the Jets, received a king’s ransom and stayed in the top 6 … but didn’t. Why? Because they’ve been fibbing to everyone and absolute plan to take a QB at #2.

I personally think the Bills will be able to get to #4 and that the Browns are happy with their pairing of Carlos Hyde with Duke Johnson and the fact they can easily add another dynamic RB like Ronald Jones III or Sony Michel in the 2nd round to give them a great stable of RB’s, so they won’t mind trading the #4 pick they would otherwise use on Saquon Barkley for a huge haul from the Bills.

I’ve still got the draft as:

    BROWNS: QB
    GIANTS: QB
    JETS: QB
    BILLS: QB
    BRONCOS: Quenton Nelson
    COLTS: Chubb or Saquon
BUCS: Whoever the Colts don’t take … Saquon or Chubb

  50. LakeLand Says:

    Kobe Faker,

The problem with predicting the Colts, they have more holes than any team in the NFL. I believe the Colts will try to trade down again…either with Arizona or Buffalo.

  51. Joeypoppems Says:

The only way the Bills trade up to #4 now is if they either love all 4 of the top QBs and it doesnt matter to them which one they get or the Giants and/or Jets dont pick a QB.

There is a rumor that the Jets might have traded up for Barkley. If they did that the GM should be fired on the spot.

  52. Pickgrin Says:

We are still trying to recover from what Dom did to screw this franchise 4 years after he was booted.

Chubb, Nelson or Trade Down! If Barkley is on the board at #7 – there WILL be a team willing to pay enough for him to make it well worth our while to trade down. I’d much rather snag Sony or Guice in the 2nd rd or Nick Chubb/Penny in the 3rd and have extra picks to fill defensive holes with than spend a #7 overall on a RB – no matter how “special” he allegedly is.

  53. LakeLand Says:

I have a hard time believing a team will move up to to draft Baker Mayfield

  54. AlteredEgo Says:

I think only 3 QB’s will be taken before the Bucs….teams know the Bucs will not take a QB and if interested in a QB will target just behind the Bucs

  55. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Mike

So it’s “smart” to “tank” a game…to LOSE a game,..losing is for losers…rather than win a tough game against the best team in our division to build on for 2018.

Oh no…let’s not win…let’s play the %’s…a 50-50 chance that no matter WHERE we draft the pick will be a disappointment. Or that enough QB’s draw interest that one of the big three fall to us anyway…

It was NEVER an either or proposition that winning the game would automatically shaft us in the draft. There was no way to know then and there is no way to know now.

What we did get to find out last year…this team has heart…they played their guts out…this coach still has his team’s attention…and our QB IS the franchise QB we were hoping for with the ability to complete not one…not two…but three SEASON HIGHLIGHTS plays in ONE drive to WIN the game.

813 keeps hitting NO EXCUSES. The only thing worse than excuses is losing on purpose.

  56. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Pickgrin

I hadn’t thought about that. But Barkley is the one player with as much “star power” as a QB. He might snag a lot for us in a trade down.

  57. Kobe Faker Says:

    KOBE FAKER’S ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Bucs will trade their #7 pick to Gumps former and possibly again future boss Arizona for their #15 pick and their 2nd round.

    STPETE

tanking got us Winston…..don’t hear you complaining about that……

and if you think dirk has the teams attention your sadly mistaken……if he had the teams attention, then why did Winston ignore him and call godwin’s number to win the game…..clearly Winston ignored him and didn’t trust his judgment…..

folks act like winning 5games is a big accomplishment…..you say they played hard as if they aren’t suppose to play hard…..that’s their job….to play hard…..they get no extra cookies for playing hard!!!!!!!!

and teams pull players and lose on purpose all the time….when teams tank the final game to rest players for playoff reasons……that’s one form of losing on purpose…..but I guess that’s a bad thing…..huh….

but now we’re in a position where we could miss out on a player that could provide an instance impact just so folks like @stpete can say we won 5games instead of 4…..lol….whats the difference…..your still a loser and had a lousy season with 4 or 5 wins…..I hope your happy with that win!!!!!….if we whiff on chubb or nelson I don’t want to hear any excuses about why we couldn’t trade up or down to get a certain player…..

  59. NFLNut Says:

    ***************

I absolutely expect a team to TRADE UP for Baker Mayfield.

I also don’t necessarily expect the Bills to trade up until draft night … I do think they get to #4 (or #2 if the Giants decide for sure they don’t want to draft a QB) but that might not happen until the draft is in progress.

For example, if the Browns actually take Saquon #1 overall and the Giants don’t want to draft a QB, the Bills will offer them the moon to get to #2 and take their 1st choice QB … but … if the Browns, Giants and Jets all draft a QB at #1-3, I think the Bills will then offer the Browns a great package for their #4 pick to take the last of the top 4 QBs.

The Cardinals probably feel helpless right now … I think they’d love to get into the top 4 but they have nowhere near as much draft capital as the Bills to work with …. they’re probably just praying that the Browns use both of their top 4 picks and/or that the Giants use the #2 pick on a non-QB as they could then trade up to #5 or #6 and take a QB … if not, they may just “reach” on Mason Rudolph or Lamar Jackson in the 1st round, which could be a disastrous mistake.

  60. VegasBuc Says:

Giants are all about winning now with Eli before his time’s up which is very soon. They’re going Quenton Nelson at 2 to protect him this year for Eli’s last 2 or 3 years max in the league.

After Eli leaves(2020), Keenum will be a FA and reunite with Shurmur because Shurmur will WIN NOW and still be their head coach after 2 years. They’ll go RB in the second. All of a sudden their offense is humming!

Browns: QB 1 (“Must” after the Jets Colts Trade)
    Giants: Nelson
    Jets: QB 2
Browns: Fitzpatrick (He says he can fix the Browns, they’ll buy it)
Broncos: QB 3 (Elway wants Mayfield)
Colts: Bradley Chubb (Switching to a 4-3 attack this year, they don’t wanna look like fools, they want to back that up with an edge rusher in year 1 of the 43)
Bucs: Yes, You guessed it! Mr. Saquon Barkely

  61. Bucko40 Says:

The pick should be Nelson all the way. The Bucs have failed to build a wall in front of Winston for 3 years now. Barkley does you no good if you don’t have a OL that can get him running lanes. Not having a OL Has led to Winston not having time to throw. We’ve all seen what Winston does when he doesn’t have time. While Chubb would be ideal on defense. Nelson is the smart choice for the offense

  62. Bucko40 Says:

Never in the history of the NFL have 4 QBs gone 1-4. It won’t happen this April either. #WishfulThinking

  63. John meeks Says:

Lakeland, don’t be surprised when baker Mayfield goes top five,I have heard John elway is real interested in him.teams are desperate for a quarterback and that means some team will reach for one!Remember ej manual going in the first round??

  64. SteveK Says:

    KobeFaker,

I hope you’re right. If Nelson, Barkley, and Chubb are all gone. I’m aboard the tradedown train. Trading back to #15 and acquiring a 2 would be solid. I would not do it for anything less.

  65. NFLNut Says:

^ Never had a #16 seed beat a #1 seed until this year either … we’ll see what happens. However, it doesn’t matter as what I’ve been saying for MONTHS is that we’ll either get Saquon, Chubb or Nelson OR one of the top 4 QBs will still be on the board, in which case we can trade down for a king’s ransom, and I still absolutely believe that will be the case.

  66. SteveK Says:

    John Meeks,

I could totally see Mayfield be drafted early. He’s got confidence and accuracy. I think he would be a successful QB and I like him most in this draft class. I like Josh Allen second. Rosen has concussions and is a rich kid. Darnold got destroyed by Ohio St and I have questions about his accuracy/decision making.

  67. SteveK Says:

    NFLNUT,

I hope you’re right. Barkley is a freak of nature and a next level explosive player. He is my #1 pick this draft.

Nelson is better than Zach Martin was coming out of Notre Dame. I am scared that he doesn’t make it past John Elway.

Chubb is the best edge rusher in the draft and I don’t see how the Colts could pass on him if he’s there at 6.

It just feels like a #BucsLife will rear it’s ugly head and we will be without any of those 3. Minkah looks like a fine player, but unless he can play CB on the outside, no thanks.

I am hopeful one of the 3 blue chippers is there for the taking at 7. If not, the I hope multiple teams are in a bidding war to trade up with us to take a QB. I would be open to the idea of multiple trade backs if the opportunity and lucrative offers present themselves.

  68. JJBucFan Says:

Stay put!! Last year OJ fell to us and Licht jumped on a guy that we certainly didn’t need (I also am not completely mad about it). It threw our entire draft into chaos IMO. Had he chosen a RB or a CB/DE/O-line- the rest of the draft may have looked entirely different. I think we would have come away with more of our needs than our wants but who knows. Stay put, one of the 3 will fall to us and if not then someone will be trading up for a QB and after what the Jets gave away, we may be able to fleece a 2 and 4 or 5 out of someone. James//Fitzpatrick/Davenport/Vea-may be a reach at 7.
OKO/Payne/Hernandez/Michel/Guice/ possibly Jackson (CB) and plenty of others should be available.

    BE PATIENT!!!

  69. Gambelero Says:

Nut: That makes sense. Cleveland wants McGlinchy, but will feel like they still can get him in a lower spot. We need to stay calm, avoid panicking and resist the temptation to move up.

On the Trade, I see the Giants taking the Bills 12, top 2, top 3 and next year’s one or next year and 20 ones with a top two. The Bills think they’re on the way up, but odds are they regress to the mean. If there’s a non-draft pick sweetener, it might be O’Leary who has proven to be a really good blocker and someone who stays healthy.

There’ll also be a ton of smokescreen this year. So much is dependent on the QB evaluations. To me, the key is (1) the standard deviation between 1-3 and 1-4 and (2) the general agreement about the order. If, hypothetically 1-4 are equal, the Browns will take Barkley at 1 and whoever is left at four and no one will spend huge draft capital to move up beyond 7. We already know that’s not the case in reality because the Jets paid a king’s ransom to move from six to three, and all the Barkley at 1 talk has been squashed. Everyone is now convinced the Browns will take their QB druthers at one. If the Giants want a QB, they’ll talk Big about Barkley, Chubb or Nelson to deke the Browns into drafting Barkley or Nelson at 1. If the Giants and Bills want to trade, they’ll make a deal to keep absolutely quiet about it. Finally, every QB coveting team will be leaking false rumors pretty much constantly. It’ll drive the draft gurus crazy because even their most “reliable sources” will be unreliable this year.

  70. mog2010 Says:

Bet the Jets love Lamar Jackson. Why trade up to 3 without knowing who you want definitively, They can be pretty sure he will be there and it’s big bonus for the Bucs. I live in hope

  71. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Be nice to somehow get a shot at Barkley but he isn’t going to be there at 7. If I were Cleveland I would take him at 1.

  72. Jeffbuc Says:

You guys are suppose to be fans and you guys are mad about us winning are last game of the season. That’s is just dumb it was are playoff game vs a playoff team playing for the division. And we had the moxy and mental toughness to go and beat them on one of the greates 2 minute drives the bucs have put together. And everyone is calling the bucs stupid for doing that. I personally will take that win that great feeling of jumping up and down and celebrating from a beautiful pin point pass. It shows me that koetter might be cut out for this job. That the players respect him and will go to war for him. Screw two spots in the draft.

  73. Aaron Says:

I can’t believe that the Giants would pass on 3 2nd round picks to draft a guard. They either are picking a QB or feel a better deal is to be had on draft night.

    Personally, I think it goes

    1) Browns – QB
    2) Giants – QB
    3) Jets -QB
    4) Browns – I could see them taking Fitzpatrick here…

    5) Denver – they draft a QB if their guy is there if not and that guy is Buffalo’s guy then Buffalo makes a trade here with Denver. If the guy for either team is not here than Denver goes Nelson.

    6) Colts – Chubb
    7) Bucs – Barkley or possible Nelson depending if a QB is taken or not…I personally would rather have Nelson and then get a RB in the 2nd rd.

    Go Bucs!

  74. Pistol Pete Says:

Might have overlooked this you guys are having a great dialogue about this….
With Joe Thomas dipping out at LT, there is not a blue chip Top 10 LT in this draft. I would think they would want to protect the Franchise QB blindside?
If the Browns go QB @1, any chance they trade down from 4 to mid-late first and grab Brown, Miller, Williams, McGlinchey?
I don’t read anything that says Nelson can be converted to a Tackle, dude reminds me of an old school road grader like Frank Middleton.
    Thoughts?

  75. buc4ya Says:

Watch Cleveland throw a monkey wrench when they take Chubb at #4. Build the trenches, Garrett at one side and Chubb on the other. We as Bucs fans continually talk about the fact that we need to build our trenches, so why is no one thinking that Cleveland would take Chubb at 4? Maybe they don’t but don’t be surprised if they do.

  76. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I think some ppl are forgetting that some consider Minkah Fitzpatrick to be a top 5 talent as well.

Not a fit for the Bucs imo, but theres a chance a team like the Browns or Broncos take Minkah, leaving one of big three (that fit with the Bucs) remaining on the board

  77. tmaxcon Says:

all you guys are ASSumming these teams are in love with a mediocre QB class… just sayin things might not go down as you think… Browns will take barkley with 1st pick and either a qb or chubb with 4th pick. way too many people are ASSumming browns are not ready to roll with Taylor until they get what they really want in a QB…

  78. LakeLand Says:

    tmaxcon,

I agree, these QBs are not special…they are average at best.

  79. 813bucboi Says:

jeffbuc says: It shows me that koetter might be cut out for this job. That the players respect him and will go to war for him. Screw two spots in the draft.

that’s wrong…..Winston ignored dirk on the last play…..dirk was playing for the FG…..Winston said screw dirk and called godwins number…..that showed how little respect Winston has for dirk…..i’ll remember you when we lose out on chubb or nelson because of that win……

    ya!!!…we won 5games instead of 4…..SMDH!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!!

  80. LakeLand Says:

    Pistol Pete,

John Dorsey signed DT Chris Hubbard in free agency ahead of Joe Thomas retiring. I think he and Shon Coleman will be the two tackles.

  81. LakeLand Says:

**Chris Hubbard is OT, not DT**

  82. Doctor Stroud Says:

Men Without Hats-lovin’ ex-GM Mark Dominik had strong connections with Buddy Nix, ex-GM of the Buffalo Bills, so maybe he has maintained some kind of inside connection with the organization. Maybe his “evil genius” can finally work in our favor! #PaidFloridaVacation

  83. Kobe Faker Says:

    John Dorsey is no fool

the reason the past CLEV GM was fired was because he passed on Wentz and Watson….

LOL, Dorsey will not if he wants to keep his job

trading for Jarvis Landry means he wants to win now

QB (Darnold) with the 1st and Barkley with the 4th pick

Clev might actually be in contention of a playoff spot in a weak AFC

  84. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    813

Dirk was going for the % play and either play successfully executed would have won the game…pending the kick of course which #3 may not have trusted.

Whatever….this is a perfect illustration of viewing something negatively or positively…Did the guy play hard against the best team in their division with nothing on the line…did they follow their coach….did #3 believe in his own ability more than anything else in the world….or did #3 simply not trust his coaches judgement and decide on anther call…why it wasn’t Jameis competitive fire or heart it must be that he doesn’t trust Dirk. Sad.

  85. Jimbo Says:

Giants not trading down. Bucs should stay at 7. 3 QBs will be taken in top 6.

  86. Thomas Bowery Says:

More like a fantasy than ecstasy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you think this is an “average” QB class? ARE YOU INSANE???????????

Tmaxcon thinks the Browns will draft Saquon #1 and Chubb #4 and just roll with Tyrod Taylor? WHAT?????????????????

I can’t believe what I’m reading, and in the words of Kevin O’Leary, “STOP THE MADNESS”!!!!!

This is a GREAT quarterback class; GREAT! Have any of you even watched Sam Darnold play? The kid has an elite skill-set. I call him “White Jameis” … he is slightly more athletic than Jameis while Jameis has a slightly bigger arm, but they basically play the exact same way and both guys are all about football.

^ Not sure why the above posted already, as I didn’t click “submit comment” … anyways, continuing on:

DARNOLD: Elite talent and all about football

JOSH ROSEN: Would easily be the #1 pick in most drafts if he wasn’t known as a jerk that his coaches and teammates don’t like … but he has elite arm talent as well.

JOSH ALLEN: Raw but more talent than any QB since John Elway … seriously. The kid can throw the ball 90 yards according to a scout, can zip it like Favre, can run around like Elway … but he’s just learning how to play QB and is as raw as they come …

BAKER MAYFIELD: I think he has massive bust potential due to his size and attitude … but … he is one of the most accomplished NCAA QBs ever and is as accurate as they come with a massive drive to succeed.

LAMAR JACKSON: This guy is an after-thought this year due to what a great class of QBs this is … had he been in the 2015 draft he could have went #2 overall ahead of Mariota … he’s Michael Vick without the drama and for anyone who remembers, Vick was a monster in his prime. I think he’d be a great pick for the Jaguars but wouldn’t be shocked to see the Cardinals take him as high as #15 overall.

MASON RUDOLPH: I actually think SIX qb’s will be drafted in round one, with Rudolph being the last one picked … but I remember a CBS Sports mock draft a couple of months ago had the Browns choosing Rudolph #1 overall … that was dumb, but the kid has a good track record and can really spin it. I think he’d be a great pick for the Patriots, Chargers or Steelers.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that many of you guys are just Bucs fans and nothing else and all you watch are Bucs games … I’m not a Bucs fan per se and so I watch a ton of games and study a ton of players … I am just shocked at some of the ignorant comments on here at times.

Sit still at 7 and see where your options take ya. I can totally see Miami or Arizona jumping at the chance to get our #7 pick to get Baker Mayfield. Especially Arizona to get ahead of Miami. In this draft I’d love a plethora of pics.

  90. The Anomaly Says:

Worst GM in franchise history. His winning % sucked. Everytime you mention him I laugh out loud. He refused to draft o linemen. Dude was a dud.

  91. Oxycondoms Says:

I feel like this might be a draft where they botch it like they did with hargaves. They would’ve botched last year also if Howard hadn’t fell in lichts lap

“I’m not a Bucs fan per se”

Then why spend so much time writing here on a Bucs fan site??

Not that I dislike your posts or anything – just curious.

^ I’ve always been clear that I never cared about the Bucs at all until they drafted Jameis … then I started following them and really familiarizing myself with their players, history and the like. I did the same with the Packers when they got Favre, the Colts when they drafted Manning, the Eagles when they got McNabb, etc., etc., etc.,.

I follow players more so than teams … I don’t really care about teams as they’re just businesses and I can’t associate with a mere business … I care about players and can associate with players as they are human beings.

I consider myself a student of the game, of QBs throughout history and I like to follow the careers of great QBs … and I believe Jameis will be a HOF’er one day and therefore follow him the same way I followed Favre and Manning and others before him.

Now, if I “had” to pick a favorite team right now, it would be the Bucs as Jameis is currently the player I like to watch more than any other and the young QB who’s future I believe in more so than any other … however if Jameis was traded to the Browns on draft day, the Bucs would instantly become irrelevant to me and I’d start posting on Browns boards … UNLESS … the Bucs traded Jameis to the Browns for the #1 and then drafted Sam Darnold … at that point, I’d follow both teams as I also love Darnold and believe in his future and plan to follow his career.

Finally, it is because I am NOT a fan of teams that I believe I can view things objectively … team fans are rabid and nonsensical a lot of the time …

  94. C. Alaka Says:

Joe I think the Bucs can swap positions w/ the Colts by giving up their 4th round pick only. Remember in 16′ draft we went down 2 positions (from 9 to 11) w/ the Bears & we picked up their 4th only. So I say that if Chubb or Nelson is there for the Colts they need both, I can’t see them not doing that deal & letting the Bucs move up.

@ this point the Bucs can care less about the 4th if they can get Chubb if he’s there! FYI I think VH3 is still a good CB. Just not being used the right way @ all.
