JPP Coming To Town

March 22nd, 2018

New Bucs DE.

Could the nightmare be over?

The Bucs found a defensive end. And his name is Jason Pierre-Paul. That’s the word from Ian Rapoport of THE NFL Network. Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht traded for JPP today, who played college ball for USF.

JPP cost Licht a third round pick. The Bucs and the Giants are both swapping fourth round picks as part of the transaction. Also per Rapoport, the Giants are flipping to a 34 defense which made JPP expendable.

JPP is 29 and had 8.5 sacks last year.

Joe has to hand it to Licht. Just when it appeared grim, Licht might have found a jewel in the sand.

    Love

  2. Doctor_berto Says:

Now let’s draft Derwin and make this defense scary

  3. Broy3434 Says:

Is it too early to throw him on the Christ body’s like we did with jameis. Because he’s pretty much a Tampa savior already

  4. BringBucsBack Says:

    Is this confirmed?

  5. Bucballbaby84 Says:

    Love it! Good move!

  6. Tbbucs3 Says:

Now I love the Vinnny Curry signing!

  7. Ben the GA Buc Says:

This is a fantastic move. Basically just a 3rd rounder for a proven DE. Great job Licht!

  8. DoSomething Says:

    FIRE LICHT

Another 30 year old defensive end?? And paid more than the Dolphins for Robert Quinn?? Jason – stick to the draft and give the trades over to someone else.

  9. Evolvingbucfan Says:

    Not bad!!

  10. Cover Deuce Says:

Well this certainly makes things interesting…

  11. IsrBuc Says:

Just a thought- if we could trade gmc for a 2nd+- and sign suh.. than youll get suh + 2nd for gmc. same money more or less, i’d guess. what do you say about it joe?

  12. Joe Blahak Says:

still a nightmare…one handed, 30 year old quick fix for 3rd rounder…Licht got robbed!

  13. HarlemBuc Says:

    Jeez, y’all late…
I’m not on board with the move at all especially for the money and the picks

  14. 813bucboi Says:

licht you son of a b!tch!!!!!!!!!………lol…….

    GREAT MOVE!!!!!!!!

looks like your trying to win after all……..now go get nelson or james!!!!!

    PRESSURES ON YOU NOW DIRK!!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!!

  15. Pryda ...sec147 Says:

Great trade I think our team is coming along nicely

  16. tnew Says:

Huge deal. With only two more “guaranteed” seasons on his contract, this is a very good deal. Reported 3rd and 4th for JPP and the Giants 4th.

I’m satisfied with this one, especially this late in the game. Could the Giants now draft Chubb????

  17. The Real Malloy Says:

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Gman Says:

    Hell yeah…great move!

  19. HarlemBuc Says:

The Bucs now have two one handed bandits at DE, yeah Jason Licht this isn’t what I was expecting

  20. Bj_863 Says:

Adding depth to that weak defensive line… so far good moves now let’s work on that secondary and get us a Rb

  21. doctor_berto Says:

    Harlem,
Pick, singular. And its not your money so who cares. We traded a third and moved up in the fourth for him.

  22. Evolvingbucfan Says:

cost us a 3rd and a 4th, not to bad at all, this might change things on who we pick @#7, More than likely they know Chubb won’t be there but there’s always hope. Welcome to Tampa Jason PP!!

  23. doogles02 Says:

I give this trade one and a half thumbs up!

  24. Tom Edrington Says:

I was at a USF practice years ago and saw JPP do a full standing back flip with full equipment on…..that was a while ago….

  25. Greecosuave Says:

His sacks are diminishing as we speak‬.

  26. NJBucsFan Says:

Stunner!!! Didn’t give up a lot either

  27. LVBUC Says:

    Is JPP better than Quinn?

  28. Easy Denman Says:

Now people need to get the heck off Lichts case. He basically got a young proven legit LDE for a 3rd round pick.

  29. Walter Says:

    Nice!!

  30. Bill Says:

This means they Colts take RB, if OG Nelson is gone, Bucs trade down.

  31. Walter Says:

    Barkley or Nelson please?

  32. NJBucsFan Says:

Evolvingbucfan- it’s beinf reported we are also getting the Giants 4th. So it’s a net 3rd round pick

  33. Sunny Says:

    A 3 rd and swap of 4th

  34. Evolvingbucfan Says:

    Sorry 3rd and 4th trade/swap i meant

  35. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Now trade DJax and get a 3rd round pick back! 49ers need WR for Jimmy G and they have an extra 3rd rounder.

  36. IsrBuc Says:

is he a FA? how old is he? what did he do lately..? i have a bad feeling that this ‘do or die’ season will hunt us down for years to come. obvioulsy we won’t feel it because we are used to being a loser but at some point we should start cleaning house (as we thought we should do before the 9-7 season) and it might be the last chance to get some value for gmc and lvd in picks.

  37. Waterboy Says:

Great move by Licht!!!!! Great 1st step in the off-season because up to this point I haven’t been overly impressed with the other guys that were added.

  38. Eric Says:

    Like it!

Of course the complainers over everything will be out.

This has the capacity to really help.

GMC send out a positive tweet for once.

  39. Tbbucs3 Says:

Lol love the complaining, Licht finally does something to adress the pass rush and Bucs fans still complain.

So what we didn’t get Quinn, get over it……

JPP is a quality pass rusher who will make the Bucs defense instantly better.

  40. SteveK Says:

    Cue the fireworks!

  41. BucsFanaticInAZ Says:

Guys we can’t draft a DE for beans, if we were going to fix our pass rush it was this or trade up for Chubb where there’s no guarantee he can translate to the NFL. JPP has 8 sacks last year, which is about 6 more than any DE on our roster. Imagine what he can do when Curry collapses the pocket and GMC brings pressure up the middle. All for the price of a 3rd round pick and we moved up 6 spots in the 4th.

Don’t complain about not having a pass rush and then not give this a chance. Our D line was poo last year, we’ve invested heavily to fix it up, I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

If we’re going all for broke, trade up to 4 if Barkley is still there….

  42. unbelievable Says:

Here we go. Now let’s draft a DE in the 2nd round and maybe add 1 more mid level FA if we can.

  43. Ateonetree Says:

This is great news, it also allows us to be more flexible with the 7th pick. If one of the big 3 (Chubb ,Barkley, or Nelson) fall to us great. If not that means more likely one of the top qbs fell to us and we could trade back with a qb desperate team.

  44. BucsFanaticInAZ Says:

    Oh and he’s 29, not 30.

  45. Bucballbaby84 Says:

All the moves they made so far this year have been surprisingly good sneaky pick ups. I’ve been absolutely surprised and blown away. Anyone who disagrees is just plain being ‘Ignint’.

  46. tmaxcon Says:

    SteveK Says:

    Cue the fireworks!

    very nice!

like the trade for the most part… now pick up a pick for cancer93 and hope will be restored and the future will be bright

  47. Evolvingbucfan Says:

The Bucs now have two one handed bandits at DE, yeah Jason Licht this isn’t what I was expecting

^^funny lol, but Jason PP is way Better at 30 y/o than Noah @ 24 imo. But yeah one arm bandits has a ring to it…haha.

  48. SteveK Says:

Now draft one of the big three, or Davenport if they’re gone. Let’s buold something special on the DLinen

  49. Broodlaw Says:

Well this was certainly unexpected, I like this move quite a bit, losing the 3rd kind of sucks but for what we’re getting hopefully it is worth it. We’re definitely going BPA or trading down for sure then in the first, and then grabbing RB in the 2nd Round if Barkley isn’t there at 7. Giants probably will take Chubb for sure in this case.

  50. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Evolving, it didn’t cost us a 4th. We swapped draft spots with NY in the 4th.

  51. Buc4life Says:

Thank God. Finally we have a legitimate DE!

  52. Kelvin Says:

This to me looks like the Bucs are planning on the next scenario:
RD1 Trade Down and get an extra 3rd RD (what they paid to get JPP).
Draft SS Darwin James, FSU. They have already figured out that Bradley Chubb is not falling to #7 at all.
RD2 Draft RB Sonny Michel, UGA.
RD3-RD4: Draft Cornerback or Offensive Guard. BAP.

  53. Sneedy16 Says:

He just turned 29 this year how is he old? Robert Quinn will be 28 this year. 1 year apart. Quinn and Jason had 8.5 sacks last year, but Jason had 68 tackles compared to Robert’s 32. Jason is still a really good DE so I think it’s a good trade.

  54. Evolvingbucfan Says:

    sorry JPP is 29

  55. miken Says:

NICE move. So Chubb goes 2 now and if 4 qbs go in top 6 then Shaq or Nelson will be there!! James and Ward become an option 2 if Jason slides back a few spots to pick up a pick

  56. Bucballbaby84 Says:

We’re trading back with the 7th pic now if Chubb, Barkley and Nelson are gone. No doubt in my mind.

  57. Bucballbaby84 Says:

Bring in the Cardinals for the 7th pic!

  58. Half_Sac Says:

Great move. And for those complaining about it really? You cry when we don’t sign or trade for Quinn or another big name but will complain when it actually happens? Dude had 8.5 sacks last year more than and DE we have had since Bennet. Also the same amount of sacks as Quinn had and Quinn played more games and had a better defense last year. Not saying I don’t want Quinn but this is just as good as a move! Be happy for the Bucs for once!!!

  59. BigBucFan11 Says:

Now if we can just get Fitzpatrick……

  60. K_Bassuka Says:

Might goodness, finally some good news. Love it.

  61. miken Says:

Did Joe just say we really got to “hand it to Jason” ???

  62. Guzziep Says:

Adding 4 hard working DL good job attacking the problem Licht, get Nelson in 1st, Guide, Michel or Chubb in 2nd, and then draft some secondary players, really need safety and CB help and we might actually have a squad this year

  63. Bucballbaby84 Says:

I want Derrius Guice in the 2nd round. Bucs move up in the second round to get him I bet too. They like him as well.

  64. Cobraboy Says:

Draft Vea and your DL rotation is set for years.

  65. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

JPP is a quality wise move by Licht! SOOO many on here bad-mouthing him all the time, but THIS Bucs fan wasn’t. WHY THE HELL did Gettleman want to take a $15 million dollar CAP HIT?! And lose their best sack pressure, will make the job that much harder for Vernon and others!

Little bummed by the high 3rd round pick leaving…as SA-QUON fruit grabbing capital.

Perhaps we could trade DJax or LVD to the Colts…to GET BACK that 3rd pund pick lost?!?!? Mull it over gang….makes a ton of sense.

    Go Bucs!

  66. Pa Privateer Says:

Now we can be calm and let the draft play out.

I would like to see a trade down after this signing.

Hopefully Bills or Cards want our pick.

Funny to see the Colts may only see Nelson at #6.

  67. Alstott up the gut Says:

JPP is way above average against the run as well! Good move…. takes Chubb off the table I would assume. Ward? James? Fitzpatrick?

  68. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

JPP is the guy who blew some fingers off his hand with Fireworks.
Still, he had 8.5 sacks last year, and we only had to give up a 3rd round pick for him!
    Good Job Jason Licht!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He played for USF, so in effect, he is coming home.
I bet he will play hard for us!

  69. Lamarcus Says:

    Hooray!!!

    About time

  70. CalBucsFan Says:

Now move up and get Barkley.

  71. CostaRica John Says:

Defense is improving quickly with all the additions. We might win a few more games this year.

  72. B Coburn Says:

Wpuld have preferred quinn especially for the cost but good pickup. Hurts losing our third.. but especially after addressing some of the most urgent needs I’m even more convinced we need yo trade down if we can and get that third back plus more

  73. unbelievable Says:

Speaking of the 1 armed bandits…

Time to go get Shaquem Griffin from UCF!

That dude is relentless! Not sure he’ll still be around by the 4th round though.

  74. Silent_Partner Says:

Like what the Bucs are doing for a change. Loading up that defensive line, which is absolutely the way you win in this league, and they can concentrate on doing so on the offensive line as well. Philly has the blueprint. Barkley shouldn’t even be in anyone’s conversation because that’s too high to take any RB. Guice is just as good if not better, and you can have him in the second round probably. If they draft a stud offensive lineman, Fitzpatrick, or Derwin James depending on how Mike Smith evaluates if he fits his defensive scheme since no one can honestly evaluate him from his tape how poorly the FSU staff coached him, this team might actually really be ready to make some noise.

  75. Not there yet Says:

    Gmc has no more excuses

  76. Eric Says:

We could have had a younger player with two hands for less of a draft pick. This was a reaction to the backlash from the fans for missing out on staters in FA. Better than nothing but still a reaction to all the negative feedback from the fans. Shaqueem Griffen in the 2nd round.
    I’ll give it a C-

  77. BucswinBucswin Says:

Maybe you should give jpp a hand …bahahaha

  78. 813bucboi Says:

    Not there yet Says:

    Gmc has no more excuses

    ^^BINGO^^

and i’ll take it a step further…..smitty and dirk have no more excuses!!!!!!…..smitty has depth…..GMC and 2 proven DE’s…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  79. Capt.Tim Says:

    Wow!!!
JPP is a great DE! Teamed with McCoy, he may get 12 sacks!
This is the first time McCoy has had any real help. It should be incredible.

The D-Line of JPP, McCoy, Beau, And Curry will be the best we’ve had since the Superbowl days!!

Now- we go all in to get Barkley in the draft. He is going to be an Amazing Pro.

Still time to get a decent CB and safety in free agency.

    Well done Licht.
    Well done

  80. Fire the Glazers Says:

This is bad… I hate this move. JPP is a mascot, and no longer relevant

  81. Aaron Says:

So the Giants decline 3 2nd round draft picks to stay at 2 to pick a DE…not buying it. I think they go QB or trade out…

So happy the Bucs are trying something…anything…now go sign a corner.

    Go Bucs!

  82. MarineBucsFan Says:

Love the trade. This makes the draft less stressful. Now we can chill and let the draft come to us.

Ofcourse if one of the big three fall to us you take that player. But now we can take either Safeties in Fitzpatrick or James, Ward, or Vita Vea if one of the big three are gone and we don’t have a trade partner.

  83. Evolvingbucfan Says:

    A ploy for Mccoy?

  84. mog2010 Says:

Good move, it also changes up the perceived order of the draft.

  85. TOM Says:

Not impressed. Would have rather had Quinn & still had our 3rd rd.

  86. The Buc Realist Says:

Was really hoping to see a more of a fresh start to the D-line in stead of the constant patching!!!! While this may be a down year for the DE in the draft there are still asset in it, and Deep and DT, I hope that the Bucs take advantage of that as we have seen too many old free-agents in trades to field a D-line!!!!!!!

It sure seems that a certain DT is considered untouchable and orders from the very top are hell bent to put his name in the ring of honor no matter the cost of building a D-line!!!!!!!!

Improved the D-line today, but will it for tomorrow???????

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. Howard Cosell Says:

    Not getting the h8terz.
If the guy had 8.5 sacks last season then it’s hard to say he’s on the decline, or isn’t good. He singlehandedly had more sacks then the Bucs did as a team.

Seems like a good move. Unless he comes to tampa and McCoy feeds him some of that sedative-laced softserve ice cream

  88. Mike Johnson Says:

Not a bad move at all. Licht knows Chubb will be long gone by the time we pick. Colts already said, Chubbs their man. We are probably doin Nelson. Barkley might be gone also. Had we just tanked…..Still people..Don’t get all hyped up just yet. The product still has to perform on the field as a Defensive Unit.

  89. John meeks Says:

Great move by our GM, maybe he does have a plan!very good Mr light!curry and jpp not a bad combination at all.now we need a strong draft and there will be no more disagreements on joebucsfan!did I really just say that?oh my,I need a drink!

  90. James Craig Marlow Says:

yYu said “hand it to Licht,” and in another article you said “stick of dynamite.” Great word play!

  91. Defense Rules Says:

@Cobraboy … “Draft Vea and your DL rotation is set for years.” I was thinking exactly the same thing Cobraboy. The middle of our DLine still isn’t anywhere close to where it needs to be to take advantage of what JPP & Curry & Spence can bring off the edges. Vea or Payne would take care of that, although I doubt Jason would use a #7 pick on either.

In any event, great job Jason! Never thought about Giants transitioning to a 3-4 thus making JPP expendable. Way to attack the opportunity when it presents itself. Now please grab a starting-caliber outside corner to complement Brent Grimes. Still a couple out there who could help us.

  92. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

OMG…I wanted this guy years ago when he hit free agency. And hte Bucs got him for only a third rounder?????

Boy, this puts a different face on the draft!

  93. Jason Mclaurin Says:

I like this and he’s a native as well. That’s what we need and he is better than Michael Bennett and Robert Quinn. JPP is gonna be that instant impact but it will be for no good if we don’t draft one of the elite Safeties. We can get a rb in the second round at this point but we also could use a LT so we can move D. Smith to guard.

  94. Kelvin Says:

I just can’t see Will Golston under any real role here. I would not play him 1st or 2nd Down in expense of Curry or JPP Playing time…

He cannot relieve anyone on passing downs. So… He is on his way out!

  95. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

    Joe????

  96. Jimbo Says:

Enough appendage jokes! JPP’s sack count equalled hisnumber of fingers.

  97. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

I can’t believe it. I just kicked myself in my nuts. Great move!

  98. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Well Got Damn Time!!

    Thank U Mr. Licht.

  99. Pickgrin Says:

Good deal – rather have JPP for a 3rd than Robert Quinn who apparently would have cost us a 3rd since our 4th was rejected.

Now we just need Spence to stay healthy and maybe we can breath on a few QBs this year.

    Great job GM Licht!

  100. Jjones Says:

People saying he’s too old and we should have had Robert Quinn are out of their minds! JPP just turned 29 in January and Quinn will be 28 in May..1-1/2 year diff in age. JPP is better against the run, pass and far more consistent even after blowing his fingers off 2 years ago. Quinn has been injury prone the last 4 years as well.

  101. The Anomaly Says:

“Now people need to get the heck off Lichts case. He basically got a young proven legit LDE for a 3rd round pick.”

Since when is 30 young? WTH? I’d recommend an IQ test to post here but then we’d only have 10 posters.

Young? 30 in the NFL is ancient.

This is putting a band-aid on gun shot wound.

  102. Doctor Stroud Says:

Welcome back home to Florida, Mr. Pierre-Paul!

  103. Buc believer Says:

    Gotta “hand” it to Licht!
    JPP her is fireworks instructions…
    1. Place in ground
    2. Light fuse
    3. (Very important) RUN!!!!
