Meaty Day Ahead

March 27th, 2018

Buckle up!

Busy Tuesday of fresh meat ahead. Dirk Koetter will have breakfast with Joe and other media at the NFL Owners Meetings at 7 a.m., followed by on-the-record chatter from general manager Jason Licht about noon, and Team Glazer late in the day.

Maybe, just maybe, Joe will peak at the comments here to see if any reader comments are worth putting into question form for the Bucs’ hierarchy.

  1. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

    How about throwing shorter passes to Jackson. Every pass to him does not have to be a forced 40yrd. bomb.

  2. Alan Says:

    So excited about the big year GMC 93 is going to have for us with the new additions around him. Go Bucs!

  3. '79Defense Says:

    Please Joe, PLEASE ask the Glazers when they are going to change the current hideous uniforms. Isn’t this year five and they are allowed to change them next year? Thank you in advance for asking.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    OK, Joe….here is a question…..they may not want to answer.

    Who will likely be the starting left guard for the Bucs going foward notwithstanding if Quenton Nelson is chosen at #7?
    Are there thoughts of moving either Sweezy or Marpet to LG?

  5. IsrBuc Says:

    Ask him why he let DM22 play last year. I got to have an answer once and for all. This made no sense to the level no one can even speculate about the reason for activating this guy on gameday. I mean.. he was cut, hasn’t he? Why did he let him ruin 2 seasons for us? why?

  6. ATrain Says:

    GMC Break out Year!!

    If not I challenge the McCoy Lovers to call him out

    NO MORE EXCUSES!!!

  7. CyberDilemma Says:

    Ask Licht if the Glazers left the decision to retain Koetter this year up to him or did they call the shot. Also, were any other coaches considered before the decision to retain Koetter was made? Was any performance mandate made for the upcoming season for Koetter to retain his job?

  8. gbobucsfan Says:

    How much of a relief will it be to not have Hard Knocks around?
    Have they talked with the NFL about a Hurricane Plan B?
    Who do they want to open the season against?
    How do they compare the Bucs’ offseason to others in the NFC South?
    Will OJ Howard be used differently this year? How is he progressing?
    What’s your favorite dish at Abe’s Place?

    Just spitballing here. . .

  9. richbucsfan Says:

    I’m sure there will be really insightful questions asked. Joe, you’re the best at that. However, expect a “coach-speak” answer. Ha, ha. First thing in the morning, I’m here to enjoy this site. You make the off-season interesting. Thank you!

  10. Shane247 Says:

    Ask them why we seem to struggle with developing DB’s. Is it the scheme, the coaching or the players?

  11. Piratic Says:

    Here’s a (snarky) question: What’s the difference between peak and peek?

    Here’s a (kinda snarky) question: What encourages the Bucs about the current CB situation?

    But what I want to know is: What is it, specifically, that the Bucs like about VHIII?

  12. Evolvingbucfan Says:

    How involved was Coach Buckner in the defensive line F/A decisions?

    What was the Main issue with Hargraves last year declining so much, and how do you plan on improving the secondary?

    What is your plan with at the running Back position? and please don’t tell me another Boise state guy.

    When do you plan on changing the Grandma glasses for something cooler or meaner looking?

  13. Jarod lauderdale Says:

    Ask coach if he is going to have a problem starting a rookie running back since barber is no gale Sayers

  14. IsrBuc Says:

    ATrain who cares man. love him or not this is the last chance to get value for him. his fault or not, 9 years of losing and terrible culture must come to an end. if the giants can trade jpp and obj, the saints can move grahm and cooks we should be able to trade the face of the losing culture and move on for the better of him and the franchise.
    problem is this club is run by PR people and they decided gmc’s poster on rj’s outside wall is selling tickets.

  15. LVBUC Says:

    Whats the plan at CB? Can’t be Grimes VH111 and smith.
    Is there a chance we still pick up a FA safety?

  16. MarineBucsFan Says:

    For Jason Licht –

    Was the defensive line a focal point in Free Agency or did you sort of play the hand dealt to you?

    Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein are highly rated run stuffers while Vinny Curry and JPP have the ability to stop the run on the way to the QB. Are these moves made to gain an identity to our defense? What is the vision for our defense?

  17. AncientasBUC Says:

    Please ask them about the success of the Falcons food/concession strategy at Mercedes Stadium with 17% increase in sales with street pricing for all concessions? Would they consider that change when they can?

  18. Jim1 Says:

    Ask them what constant factor has contributed to or caused the Bucs’ to miss the play-offs every year for the last ten years.

  19. Wausa Says:

    This is Probably a question you already planned on asking Jason Licht:

    What is the time schedule to begin negotiating extensions for Marpet, Alexander, Winston and Smith?

  20. Crazybuczfan Says:

    Why give up a 3rd rd. pick for a 29/30yr old JPP but not for a 26/27yr old Quinn?

  21. martinni Says:

    Ask him about the health status of Noah Spence. We usually get a “Thats up to the team doctors,” response, but with the draft rapidly approaching it would be nice if some one would go on the record about that shoulder. thanks

  22. tickrdr Says:

    @Piratic:
    Here is an even snarkier response to question#1.

    The words peak and peek are homonyms. (No, they don’t hate gay people)
    Two words that sound alike, but are spelled differently and have different meanings are called homonyms. Most posters on this site would not recognize a homonym, even if it emitted an audible tone that you could actually hear.

  23. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Any interest in inviting Johnny Manziel to camp as insurance against possible Jameis suspension ?

  24. Pickgrin Says:

    Yes – Please ask the Glazers how long they intend to continue subjecting their players to ridicule by forcing them to wear the Burger King staff resembling. digital clock imitating CLOWN SUITS better known as the current Buccaneer uniforms…

    Follow up regardless of answer – “So what the hell were you thinking when you approved this “design” and why didn’t you solicit fan reaction before writing Nike a check for something that a 4th grader could have done a better job of?”

  25. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

    See what excuses are being scripted for another failed season by the crying clown drama queen cancer93… will it be injury? Will it be the tiresome he needs help exrcuse once the GMC nuthuggers turn on free agents after their girl does not perform? What will this year’s pathetic pre season press conference by the bad character POS be another gloom and doom I must do better or will it be him crying about big meanies on the internet…

    One thing is certain the bucs and nuthuggers spend more time justifying and making excuses for the face of the basement years than game planning for actual wins..

    Bucs have never won a meaningful game with the POS wearing the C and never will….

  26. rriddler Says:

    Happy National Joe Day!!

  27. Nick2 Says:

    Ask ownership if they will ever consider a home uniform of all black since black is one of the primary colors (obviously not in the heat).

  28. 813bucboi Says:

    @joe, ask dirk a 2part question…..

    ask dirk are they comfortable with their current CB depth….and….

    ask dirk has he instructed or suggest to smitty to play more man press instead of off coverage……the college film suggest ryan smith’s and VHG’s s strength are playing man press……will we see tighter coverage to make windows smaller for QB’s…….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!

  29. 813bucboi Says:

    ask dirk what changes has he and other coaches made to their coaching style that can help produce wins?…..

    we heard a lot last year after a lost that the coaches have to do a better job…..a better job in what?….preparation?…..scheme?….personnel usage?…better clock management?……..better situational play calling?…..being more aggressive offensively and defensively?….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  30. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Does Coach K have any idea yet about what the personality and identity of the 2018 team will be?

    Seems like we did get a little “tougher and meaner” during the off season.

  31. mog2010 Says:

    18 week regular seasons, if disaster happens you have an extra bye week

  32. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @tickdr

    I used to be a great speller in my youth. As I age however I’m really getting awful with homonyms and especially on a blog like this.

    If I stop and read I clearly recognize the difference between they’re…their…there
    but sometimes when I’m typing quickly my brain snatches the wrong homonym out of the air. Homonyms have become my curse!

  33. Lamarcus Says:

    Joe

    Can you ask Koetter what’s his take about Marpet? Marpet is being moved for a 3rd in 3 years. Does that mean he is not established yet or just that versitle. I love to him get a position and stick to it. Marpet seems to be the odd man out

  34. Pickgrin Says:

    Wow – a tickrdr sighting!

    Did we re-sign Glennon or something??

  35. tickrdr Says:

    @SPBF:
    The way you write and your command of the King’s English is certainly never a concern at all. I always enjoy your well-written posts! Even the ones I may not necessarily agree with, LOL.

    @Pickgrin:
    A tip of the hat to you sir!

  36. Piratic Says:

    @tickrdr: I literally laughed out loud! Well done!

    A jab at Joe turned into a jab at the majority of the posters here which turned into SPBF’s admission of being cursed! Who could’ve seen that coming?

  37. Dlavid Says:

    Just win baby !!!! That is all ownership needs to know ! We are hurting out here ! Fire the cannons !!

  38. tickrdr Says:

    @Piratic:

    A tip of the hat to you as well,sir! I have always enjoyed reading your posts, and the cogent arguments offered. It is difficult to wade through the 3rd grade, Internet tough guy, word for word repetitive personal attacks devoid of meaningful content, that I find myself simply wearing out my “scroll” wheel, and therefore visiting and reading less and less.

  39. Pickgrin Says:

    I hear ya Doc. This place has gotten out of control with the pessimistic, borderline sociopathic trolls all too often dominating the “discussions” on jbf comments sections.

    As stated on another thread somewhere today – this place badly needs an individual reader’s “ignore” button for the comments section to become palatable again to the actual Bucs fans who want to actually talk about Bucs football – as opposed to constantly having to wade through the perpetual pissing and moaning about a certain player by a handful of extremely vocal trolls who have nothing better to do than spew their negativity here.

  40. tickrdr Says:

    @Pickgrin:

    Agree about the “ignore” function, and I would much prefer if the discussion threads would allow direct replies in a “nested” format, since the original comment spawning a reply may actually be half the page up screen, making any real “discussion” i.e. actual “back and forth” nearly impossible. However, I believe that the Joes have stated on many occasions that they clearly prefer the present format. Also, I always wonder why there is no easy way to post video or links (replays, tables of stats etc.), which may allow everyone additional capability to supply evidence for their opinions.
