Background Info On Ryan Jensen

March 29th, 2018

Intel from ex-coach.

So we know the Bucs have a new center, and not a whole lot more.

Sure, the Bucs have great things to say about Ryan Jensen, who Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht signed earlier this month. Most of that is frosting, of course. What team would sign a guy in free agency and then throw him under the bus a day or two later?

But what about Jensen makes him a wanted man? Joe went straight to the source Tuesday at the NFL owners meeting in Orlando and asked the man who made the call to move Jensen to center, and that was his former Ravens coach John Harbaugh.

“Well, first of all he is tough,” Harbaugh said. “Ryan is a tough, hard-nosed, physical football player. I think he brings a certain attitude to the game the way he plays.

“He solidifies the middle of your offense. There was a question — I mean Ryan was not a guy people expected to start for us last year. I feel like his coaches, and just personally, I felt like he was going to win the starting job all along. There are people in the building that know that is true because he is just so determined to do it.

“He’s talented, he’s a big, physical guy. He’s smart. I think [the Bucs] picked up a really good player.”

That is the thing Joe hears over and over again, that Jensen is a dude with a nasty edge to him. Given who he started for in the AFC North, a lineman has to be physical. Look who Jensen faced twice a year: If a team battles the Steelers in the trenches the way Baltimore does, Jensen better damned well be physical or have an edge or just be downright nasty, or the Steelers will eat you alive.

Hopefully some of that ‘tude will rub off on other Bucs offensive linemen.

Don’t worry choirboy loving bucfan cancer93 will turn that nasty edge into ice cream in no time…

  2. SCBucsFan Says:

By most accounts, a solid if not spectacular signing. Then again, Anthony Collins was supposed to be a good signing too. No doubt both lines needed to be improved, good to see we spent money trying to upgrade.

  3. Jarod lauderdale Says:

I hope he puts 93 on his ass the first practice so then maybe it gives mcsofty a reason to get fired 👆

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Iron sharpens iron. An improved OLine will make our DLine better. And vice-versa.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

If iron sharpens iron that explains why players regress going against soft serv…. thanks DR you solved the mystery of bucs player regression

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

93 will have his best year of his career this year, proving once and for all that had the team built up the line sooner, he’d have been a 12-14 sack guy.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would say 93 would finally make TMax look as stupid as he is, but TMax accomplishes that all by himself.

  8. Bill Says:

He’s ok…He’s solid. Let’s not make him up to be more than he is. B-more had enough lineman coming back from injury to let him go and address other spots. But he is young and can be around for a long while.

Holy smokes T max is there any day you have something positive to say. The Bucs are trying to build a franchise here. It takes time man. This is the problem with our society in general. We’re a microwave culture, we want everything in 1min or less. You call it “ us accepting a losing mentality “ and that you don’t. I say you are just a pissed off little 4yr old that didn’t get her ice cream fast enough. Don’t love them when they do it love them when they don’t do it.

  11. unbelievable Says:

    And the Tmax obsession continues.

Imagine a grown man spending 24 hours a day obsessing over another man.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If we go by literal holes, RB is the only position to fill…as we are one short.

But we all know that’s not the only need. Still, looking at the roster, its not so bad as the harbingers claim. Just a few immediate needs.

  13. JimmyJack Says:

Dude WTF does McCoy have to do with Ryan Jensen? I swear you are the dumbest Buc fan that, obvisously, has so narrow of a mind that you can only conjure up a single thought about the team.

My ten year old is much more insightful. My suggestion is you pick a tennis player and follow him or her. Team sports seem to be too much for you.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Grt1

I’m only guessing, but I think MAYBE he hasn’t been banned because he draws enough responses to boost traffic. Even if it is just people putting him down.

So technically, ignoring him might make him disappear, because if we do, sooner or later he will tick the boss off.

    Again…pure speculation.

  15. DoSomething Says:

Joe this is the same article you wrote on J.R. Sweezy when he was signed.. what coach is going to say “nah he sucks so we didn’t resign him”. Ask better questions like why didn’t he start sooner? Or what does your replacement center have that he doesn’t have?

  16. Pancake block Says:

They said the exact same thing for Sweezy as far as nasty attitude so don’t mind me if I temper my expectations till I see actions that match the rhetoric

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai….tmax is Tampa Bays punching bag. I always just scroll right on by his narrow minded irrevelant posts……But if you’re having a bad day he is there for you to pick a fight with.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I cannot believe RBs will get penalties this year for lowering their head to run. Ridiculous.

  19. tmaxcon Says:

    Bonzi

No one ASSumes more garbage than your dumb arse… every year since I have been on this board you proclaim this is the year for cancer93 and every year he lays down like a cheap crackwhore

Bucs have not done anything positive in nearly 2 decades. I’ll be positive when they earn it… you guys keep giving free passes to career losers I will not…

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I advise not paying any attention to Tmax unless he gets close to the children….especially little boys.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

You have me confused with the Michael Jackson wanna be cancer93…. there is a reason McCauley Caulkin is terrified of bucs…

  22. tmaxcon Says:

Ladies if you are going to take shots at the bearer of truth at least try and be creative. I get it’s a hard pill to swallow that I am always right and the results on field prove it… when my favorite team stops embarrassing itself, the city and football fans worldwide I’ll be positive. Let me remind the delusional optimists and those living in denial that bucs have not done anything positive in nearly 2 decades.

  23. SteveK Says:

Tmaxcon keeps it real. We are a dumpster fire for the past decade plus. Time to win, we are due!

  24. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

I agree that playing in the Ravens division does absolutely mean as a lineman you have to be a tough SOB. I think this was a real wise and economically realistic move by Licht for the present and future of the Bucs OLine. I’m looking forward to see how Jensen blocks and provides that additional fierce edge for the Line, and how he blocks for….SA-QUON.

28 days and counting till the SA-QUON Sweepstakes! Almost all draft capital still intact for 2018-2020!

    Go Bucs!

  25. Lamarcus Says:

Yeah man. Y’all picking on tmaxcon for telling the truth

  26. JimmyJack Says:

Last time I seen you telling everybody how you were always right I simply scrolled up and read your other comments and saw multiple things you wrote that were pure fiction. I called you out and you just completely ignored it.

I may not meet your request of being creative but I do find it funny….or actually stupid….that you are calling other fans delusional.

  30. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Here’s to some trade scenario draft articles hopefully coming. I think I can speak somewhat for the other Buc faithful on JBF that if one looks at prior threads, and the number of comments left on those articles, the highest replied/commented articles lie not only in the draft, but having something to do with potential/speculative trade scenarios. If you think Joe ever writes for the sake of comments you’re very mistaken. Second, many of the most commented articles are the least read. –Joe

  33. JimmyJack Says:

Look tmax….I believe that you might believe in your own mind that you are always right. That or your just trying to generate a response as a troll.

And you may be right all you like. The amount of times that you are right is purely meaningless when you just completely ignore the times you aren’t. This is what you do. It’s who you are as a poster on here bro, a straight up phony.

I’m not going back and forth about being right or wrong. It’s total BS. If you need validation then yes you are always right.

  34. Defense Rules Says:

@Bonzai … “looking at the roster, its not so bad as the harbingers claim. Just a few immediate needs.” Bonzai, if you intend to sue that in the future as a ‘repost’ you might want to capitalize IMMEDIATE NEEDS. Tend to think we’ve got more than ‘a few’ (but then again, ‘few’ is very flexible). If we’re just looking at starters, I see G & RB on the offense, plus DT, CB & SS on the defense. That’s 5 starters … minimum.

If you throw in key rotational players in the ‘immediate needs’ category (and injuries to key starters do happen), then I’d add 1 more RB, 1 OLineman (versatile), 1 DE & 1 CB. So if you’re defining ‘few’ as say 9 key additions (starters & key rotational players) then I’m right with you. Or we could say ‘a dozen’ if we’re looking to have any REAL depth. Don’t know if that qualifies me as ‘a harbinger’ or not, because as I’ve said before … I’m cautiously optimistic. Well except about tmaxcon … it is what it is.

  35. Defense Rules Says:

Oops, make that ‘use’ instead of ‘sue’. Well, unless you’re a lawyer.

  36. tmaxcon Says:

The sad part is you little men get so worked up over anonymous commentors… you fit perfectly with the mentally weak team led by cancer93… truth hurts bucs suck and cancer93 is a pos career loser… scoreboard is all that matters…

  37. JimmyJack Says:

Defense Rules….Are you trying to say we are lacking depth? I think we are pretty solid depth wise. Pretty decent experience throughout IMO.

  38. SOEbuc Says:

Mean SOB that started 16 games last year. I’ll take it

  39. unbelievable Says:

The only thing tmax has been right about is that ownership has made a ton of bad decisions over the last decade.

    That’s the only thing.

The few other times he comments about football related issues (not including rants about his obsessive man crush), he is completely wrong. Very little actual knowledge of football.

But tmax isn’t a troll, he’s just a depressed fan, with an unhealthy obsession about another man.

  40. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Wow it’s testy in here this morning. LOL

Remember the stories out of camp in Marpet’s first year. Apparently he and GMC had their battles during camp and I suspect Jensen and GMC will have a few this year as well.

Again all this GMC is soft talk is for uniformed trolls on a blog. NOBODY who steps on an NFL field is soft…well they may have soft bods like Swaggy lol but even Swaggy has to have courage to step on that field.

There are significant number of athletic freaks…absurd size and speed and strength stats…and many of them enjoy hurting people…literally…for some it’s just the job…hurt the other guy…but the bottom line is this….it’s really, really tough on ANY NFL football field.

I do not mind TMAX blasting any players results of if they can point to a lack of effort like Swaggy. But calling anybody soft who plays in the NFL is just absurd.

Question for other’s memories. I recall lots of rancor and animosity in past pre draft months…everybody with their favorite picks..and lots of disagreement. Seems like this year is different. There doesn’t seem to be near the arguing and disagreement over picks as years past.

Certainly nothing like the year #3 was drafted!

  41. Defense Rules Says:

@JimmyJack … “Are you trying to say we are lacking depth?” You’re pulling my leg, right? Take a close look at our OLine for starters. If Donovan goes down, who steps in? Or at our TEs. If OJ gets injured (heaven forbid), who’s your backup? Auclair? (very rough around the edges). Cross? (more of a FB at this point). And those are the good ones. Take a close look at the Secondary as it now stands. Nah, sorry JimmyJack, but the Bucs are struggling right now to fill STARTER holes. Key rotational players and depth will take several years to flesh out. We need to all be prayin’ for ZERO injuries if we expect a winning season.

  42. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Oh boy, Bonzai making a prediction that GMC will have his best year this year might as well be the death-nail for his career.

Why’d you have to go and do that?

  43. JimmyJack Says:

Defense….If Donovan goes down you plug in Wester. He was pretty good when he got in last year. If O.J. goes down we are just fine using Cross to block and Auclair for receiving with Brate and also using more 3 WR 1 TE sets.

Yes, the secondary is weak right now as we all know. But I do think we have good depth guys at the safety position. Less so at CB.

But I’m looking at the roster right now and when you realize it’s still March and Training Camp is 5 months away I don’t see any problems. It’s not like the Bucs plan is to hit TC with 2RBs and Conte/VHIII covering half the field.

  44. AlteredEgo Says:

I’ve heard if you wear a tmax tee shirt to the JBF draft party you get free beer and wings

  45. JimmyJack Says:

And maybe I’m wrong. Maybe they hate Wester and want him replaced.

Maybe there is somebody else I haven’t seen that is on the roster they know can play. Or maybe somebody beats out Wester. Point is they are starting at Wester and he proved he can play the position in the league last year. Not a bad player to start with as a backup IMO.

Same thing with Auclair and Cross. Both of them have come in and done their jobs for us. They have made plays too. Not sure what you don’t like about those guys as backups……..Auclair is rough?? If the guy is just as rough after two years of practice then either our coach’s are lost or he needs to be replaced.

  49. Bucsfanman Says:

I like the Jensen signing and agree that he has to be tough to play against the competition in the AFC East.
Hopefully, unlike Sweezy, his nastiness will be contagious and we’ll see some real DAWG for a change. This team NEEDS an identity.

  50. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Burning hot take:

Tmax was crushing hard on GMC. Unfortunately GMC spurred poor tmax’s advances.

After hours of crying to himself in the mirror and asking why god didnt make him pretty, tmax finally decided he wanted to get revenge and began his delusional anti-gmc crusade.

  54. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’m curious about this “nasty” quotient.

I find it a bit overrated. The Steelers are a “nasty” football team. They are a good football team as well.

The Patriots are not particularly nasty but they are clearly the best team for the past decade. It mains me to type that since I hate everything “Patriots” but the truth is the truth.

There are plenty of ways to put together a good football team.

  55. Jjones Says:

Tmaxcon…I don’t get your obsession with GMC. You say he’s soft, a cancer, not a leader, doesn’t play thru the whistle etc etc etc. I agree he’s soft spoken but his peers disagree with you whole heartedly.

It’s your opinion and that’s fine but you’ve never(nor has anyone else for that matter), from what I’ve seen, given any real proof to back your claim. It’s always an emotional response from you. He’s constantly dbl teamed all year and the best DL we have and still gets the pro bowl nod from his peers. Until you can actually prove he’s trash your opinion is just that, an opinion but the facts are that he’s a six time pro bowler and those aren’t given out to weak or soft players. So please give me something to work with here besides some quick witted backlash banter.

  56. Reach87 Says:

I could care less if he’s a troll, I would just like a logical explanation is all. I’m pretty frustrated with everything myself as a fan and have been a fan for over 20 years, I’m not some eternal optimist. I’ve seen guys that are issues on this team but to say GMC is the issue for everything is just plain ignorant.

Besides the GMC argument I’ve seen good insight from tmax and others that can be labeled the same. So if they have the ability to give good insight in one way why not on GMC? I know the answer really, it’s because they can’t. Guess I’m reaching for the impossible, we’ll see.
