A Statement From Jason Licht

February 7th, 2018

A pledge to Bucs fans.

Bucs fans, Jason Licht feels your pain.

In a video presentation pumped out by the Bucs, the team’s AC/DC-loving general manager opens up to Bucs fans that he, just like the fans, is disgusted.

He is disgusted with the play last year. He is disgusted by the team’s record. He is disgusted the playoff drought continues.

In the video below, presented by the Bucs, Licht pledges he and the entire Bucs organization will put forth the necessary effort to rid this franchise of the losing stench.

  2. Bucssuccs Says:

By keeping the same coaches who promote losing culture?

  3. LakeLand Says:

Jason Licht is pleading to the 1,165 Bucs fans across the globe.

The team will suck again this season.

Somber. Feels right. all the shots of JW3 are surprising given the renewed character concerns.
    GO BUCS!!!!!

  5. denjoe Says:

[Now, now. Be nice. — Joe]

  6. Pickgrin Says:

Fair Enough Jason. A nicely done little PR piece.

Raising ticket prices was a bad idea though – but we know who made that decision.

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

More lip service. Oh, yeah Pickgrin, couched with increased ticket prices too?!

  8. Buc4lyfe79 Says:

“I Look forward to seeing you and your energy in Raymond James next fall.” –Jason Licht.

Somebody better tell Jason that after the ticket price “Seige My Pay” Plan, they might be looking for a very long time.

  9. ChanEpic Says:

Bruh…. Unless Jason Licht is suiting up and able to rush the passer and get 9+ sacks.. I don’t want to hear it, I want to SEE IT.

  10. ChanEpic Says:

99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 is the best screen name on JBF.com hands down!

  11. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Sure waited a long time to present that long line of shiot!!! The culture you have there now will remain with the Coaching staff you have in tact. Keeping Koetter….Maybe ! Keeping Smith….No Way!!! I see another long season in Tampa because there wasn’t a change made to get rid of the leader of the 32nd defensive Team in the NFL. Maybe I’m wrong but maybe I’m not!!!!

  12. SteveK Says:

Bucs be like, “let’s keep the entire staff, raise ticket prices, and bring in hope for next year”.

Ticket prices being raised should be bc we are paying Calais Campbell. Shameful.

  13. Season Is Over Says:

    Was this video from 2014?

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

Well he’s drafted about 5X as well as Dominic did.

2 players basically left from the Dominic era of drafting which ended in 2013 – 5 drafts.

In 4 Licht drafts I’d imagine these players will be here 4-5 years:

    M. Evans/Winston/Marpet/D. Smith/Kwon/Beckwith/J.Evans/O.Howard

That’s at worst assuming Spence never returns and VHIII busts out and Ryan Smith is uselss. I’d imagine at least 1-2 of those pan out – and we’re looking at 10-11 players vs 2 for Dominic in 1 less draft in terms of long-term players.

He’s far from perfect but my god Dominik was really bad

  15. Lord Cornelius Says:

    4-5 years later from now*

  16. JAB83 Says:

  17. LakeLand Says:

Phil Krueger, Mark Dominik, Jason Licht

    All three of them sucks

  18. Kobe Faker's Girl Says:

2018 season year is to RESET the books concerning all the total coaching salaries

Glazers tired of paying all these combined fired coaches salaries

RJS will be like the United Nations building with all the visiting team colors

Doubt all the Glazer Bros will make all the games

“Joel, Its your turn to show up for the game this week” Bryan Glazer

“My turn already? Sh!t! I had something important to do! Ill give you 7 million dollars if you that my place? Maybe I can trick Darcie to do it?”

    Joel Glazer

  19. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I will believe it when come March 14 right at 4 p.m. we will sign some much-needed, at any cost free agents..I don’t want to see bargain-basement, blue-light specials anymore..

And with the same coaching staff..meh, I don’t see it..

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

OK guys & Lifeofabucfan……it’s time to Buc it up!!!

Come on, what real choice do we have?…..and I know we’ve been here time and again…..a losing season, pending FA & Draft…..
Sure, this year no coaching changes…..maybe that may be the difference….before there were wholesale changes and that didn’t work.

Lets hope for the better again. But, this time without high expectations like last year…..how about joining me?

  21. JB Says:

Got 3 WORDS for ya Jason…….

    TALK IS CHEAP!!

  22. Not there yet Says:

That was smart. Not his fault dork isn’t a good head coach

  23. Buccaneer Bill Says:

Two words from me: Go Bucs!

  24. tmaxcon Says:

talk is cheap and the losing culture will not be defeated until captain blowout cancer93 is eradicated from roster.

  25. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe to me the message I received from the video(specially since it’s something the Glazer’s have NEVER done before) is they will go had in free agency and maybe even trade up in the draft to acquire game changing player/s.something smells dishy at One Buc Palace…the Glazer’s are brewing up something big… usually everyone thinks all the Glazer’s care about is money..

  26. Birdman Says:

Key phrase in this video was Licht’s claiming they will learn to close out games next year.
In the words of HOF GM Bill Polian, the way you close out games is with a good defensive line because there are guaranteed situations where the opponent will have to throw the ball and one sack almost surely ends it.
Guess what the Buccaneers absolutely do not have. A good defensive line.
Someone que the Licht video of him being chock full of snark as he looks down to a reporter and says “oh jeez where are we gonna find the money for the defensive player of the year laying around” from that press conference last year.
All this video did was make me bloodthirsty because obviously Lichts seat is burning through his pants if he had to make a sorry video like this.

  27. Bucssuccs Says:

Sorry, this ownership does not care a single bit about its fans. Increasing ticket prices after our crap show of a season???

  28. Defense Rules Says:

@Lord C … “In 4 Licht drafts I’d imagine these players will be here 4-5 years:
    M. Evans/Winston/Marpet/D. Smith/Kwon/Beckwith/J.Evans/O.Howard.”

That’s an ASSUMPTION Lord C. Once their initial contracts are up, what makes anyone think that these guys will stick around here as opposed to go to a contender? Fans seem to forget that the 1st 4 years these guys make peanuts for the most part. They may love their teammates, but it’s still a business. Most will be looking for a nice payday (i.e., Lavonte David, Will Gholston, etc) because they realize how tenuous an NFL career can be.

You named 8 players who’ll be expecting big paydays, but reality is that many more will need to be paid (DTs? DEs? CBs? RBs? etc) during the duration of their 2nd-term contracts. CAP has gone up a BUNCH, but so have the contracts. A LOT of mouths to feed, and I think about half of our better draft picks will end up walking … UNLESS Bucs suddenly turn into a perennial contender.

  29. Bucssuccs Says:

Here’s my final word: licht and co always talk about improving our team from players, correctable mistakes, and coaching staff. But that’s the thing. We’ve heard from the bucs that their not making any coaching changes yet we heard licht in this video talking about coaching evaluations. Someone’s lying to us. And again, we’ve all heard the broken record “we’re gonna come back from our mistakes and make things right.” If never happened, then what makes us think that Licht, most likely reading scripted garbage off a TelePrompTer scripted by some corporate personnel, gonna make things change?

  30. Defense Rules Says:

And JB, I agree with you … TALK IS CHEAP!!

  31. Pepsi Says:

low iq licht has to do better than a sales ad, bring us pass rushers and RBs

  32. Kansas95Buc Says:

I’m still trying to get over the ticket increase and our team still sucks as of right now…can someone explain that to me please

  33. Dlavid Says:

Please Jason ……. talk is cheap ! After the crap show we have witnessed the last nine years ; the only thing you can do is put a winner on the field ! You have not done so as of yet ! The 2016 campaign fluke is nothing to hang your hat on . Enough words………………..

  34. Dlavid Says:

Joe , don’t let them use your platform to beg and promise …… blah blah !make them give us factual goings on not “we feel your pain “ crap !

  35. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Defense

Well I should have said all those players would likely be deserving of 2nd contracts then vs being around here. I also forgot Chris Godwin in that list. Hell like 1/2 of them are coming up soon between Evans and the 2015 class.

The main point of that post is to illustrate that he’s at least acquiring talent at a much higher success rate in the draft than anything Dominic ever did.

It’s not like Dominic drafted great players and we couldn’t afford to sign them or they walked because they hated Tampa. He was just absolutely terrible at aquiring talent in the draft. He basically was told to rebuild the roster / go youth movement – and literally no one is left from 5 years of his drafts; to the point that Licht essentially had to rebuild from the ground up all over again; other than McCoy/David/Martin basically since he got here. That’s just insanely bad.

I couldn’t care less what Licht says. This pathetic team and franchise puts a sh it product on the field then has the nerve to raise prices? They should be refunding for the crap people had to endure. What a big group of idiots.

Idiots from the top to the bottom. Pathetic team pathetic franchise pathetic owners and pathetic decision makers.

  39. Buddy Says:

In my opinion how hammered did that guy look? I can only imagine all the booze he had to drink to get that meat sweat look in his face. He prob had to drink after getting the word that Team Glazer was forcing him to make a ridiculous video spewing all the nonsense he did. Don’t worry Jason you and Klueless Koetter are on numbered days at this point. Just keep enjoying drinking at the Press Box since I’ve personally seen you there numerous times

  40. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Lakeland

While I rarely agree with you I do respect the thought you put behind most of your posts.

Occasionally though you go off the deep end with the hyperbole…something I myself have done here on occasion.

“Jason Licht is pleading to the 1,165 Bucs fans across the globe.”

C’mon man you can do better than that. 1,165 fans? Right!!!

    @TBBF

    I’ll join you!!!

  41. Chris Says:

He’ll be making more of those grest GM decisions in the off season by getting wasted with the rest of his staff…” hiccup. .burp….hey ..lets draft Aguayos brother in the third…..sign another mediocre d lineman…snub oir noses at the best in free agency and extend Doug Martin”. Yeah, , I trust his judgement. The owners, coaches, front office, and half ass players make it just about too hard for me to continue as a fan. Might root for Cleveland, even they have more going for them….and theyre 1-31.

  42. Bucfanrich Says:

I do not trust his free agent signings…someone else should be in charge of that.

  43. D the Bucs fan Says:

I dont think he even believes what his reading lol. His face says it all!

  44. yahmuni Says:

change the culture and the uniforms and then we can talk…oh yea and get me a coach like doug Peterson, who plays to ACTUALLY win!!!!!.

  45. Defense Rules Says:

@Lord C … “The main point of that post is to illustrate that he’s at least acquiring talent at a much higher success rate in the draft than anything Dominic ever did.” If by ‘acquiring talent’ you mean DRAFTING Lord C, then I agree with you for the most part. Remember though that Dominik did find several FA gems (like Donald Penn & Michael Bennett?) who could be helping us right now IF they hadn’t been given away. But when you come right down to it, Allen-Dominik-Licht have all taken turns screwing the pooch. Bucs’ management has been habitually bad for years & our won-loss record reflects that. Whatever various fans may think of Rich MacKay when he was GM, he did bring in some pretty decent talent.

    …………….

I I’m with Lakeland because the other teams in this division already know how to win close games and are regulars in the playoffs. No rookie is going to come in here and take a team of grown men to the promise Land if it’s not a quarterback which we supposedly already have so I’m guessing they are going to make some bold trades. Who cares about a 4th or 5th round pick anyway if Your giving that up for an established player not a developmental one.

  47. Alanbucsfan Says:

Just don’t trade any of your top 4 picks the next 2 years- and make 4-5 of those picks trench talent

  48. Baker Mayfield Says:

If you know what we need how come you lead us into last with 1 receiver.
And why did you lead us into this season 1 defensive end. Inexcusable your FIRED !! And by the way it’s Raymond James not Raymond Janes.

  49. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Mr. Licht I respect the fact that you took the time – to speak your peace.

But to quote Edgar Allen Poe:

  50. Dan Says:

    Whatever man

  51. Off the Cuff Says:

Free agency – OL, DL, CB
    Draft – DL X 2, RB, S, CB , Wildcat QB

The Bucs need to take some of the heat off McCoy by drafting Vita Vea. That will allow us to bring back Michael Bennett and draft another edge rusher.

Rashad Penny should be available in the second or third round. Jason Licht loves to double up on second round picks.

  52. LakeLand Says:

Last season, every person on this site knew the Bucs needed a DE,RB, OG,OT, CB. But the Great Jason Licht drafted in this order.

    Round.1 TE
    Round.2 S
    Round.3 WR
    Round.3 ILB

  53. BrianBucs Says:

It’s now ticket selling season. A day after Bucs raise ticket prices on some seats they are trying to give Bucs fans something to get excited about and a reason to go to games. However, at this time there is Nothing about the Bucs to be excited about and nobody on the roster who people would pay big money to want to see play. Looks like in this video the Glazers are making Licht wallow in his own mess and failings

  54. Joeypoppems Says:

Its a nice gesture I guess. I did chuckle when he was naming players they got in the draft and he mentioned no names from the 2016 class tho lol.

  55. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Lakeland

To be fair WR and S were both pretty big needs last year.

  56. DB55 Says:

If you mad at ticket prices please don’t forget we paid for luxury suites last yr too. #Bucs, GO!

  57. JAB83 Says:

All Hands on Deck…. We must stay the course…. Our captain has spoken….

And I know yall are still bitter and all…. But we have reason to be just as excited this year as we did last…..

That is unless you only became a fan because of Hard Knocks???

We literally can only go up from here…. And the excitement factor literally is more intense because now its anyones guess as to what this team is capible of….

Last season sucked… The year before was promising… Now we “The Leap”. no doubt this team is gonna be solid for years if we just STAY THE COURSE HERE….

  58. Jarod lauderdale Says:

You know , I really like Jason licht & hope he succeeds because if he does , the bucs do too…I do think he has an eye for talent and all that but bro , you gotta do way better in FA & these damn coaches have to really buckle down and get the most outta these players.with Mike Smith I see another guy just like lovie as in what the hell are you doing ? You fit your sceem around your best players and what they are good at ! You do not make the players fit your sceem because as you can see it didn’t work for lovie and it Shure as hell is not working for me Smith ! BTW , I never liked him anyway ! I couldn’t stand him when he coached the falcants & he’s done nothing to change my mind ! Ugh….go bucs !!!

  59. LifeOfABucFan Says:

tampabaybucfan…I’m trying..lol…but until I see some kind of movement, hmm..not too hopeful..

The fact that even playoff teams did coaching changes to make them even stronger and we didn’t do sh!te..makes me wonder if anyone at OBP even cares anymore..

At least I will “adopt” the SF 49’ers as my second team..and that’s because I love John Lynch and would love for him to succeed..

    Sorry buddy.
    I hate to disagree
But 5-11, last place defense, last in sacks.
Nah, thats the same thing Ive seen with this team, 90% of the time, since my Dad took me to games during Bucs year one.

Other than a few great years under Coach McKay, and a few wonderful years under Coach Dungy/Gruden, this team has sucked.

Its criminal- some of the great players who wasted their careers here.

Every year, one GM or another gives his” I feel your pain, we are gonna do what it takes to get better, blah blah blah” speech.
Every year the team sits on a ton of money- and sucks on the field

The only way this team will be competative, is if Bulls**t starts improving players- like fertilizer.
When that happens, The Bucs will be a dynasty!

  72. D-Rome Says:

    Totally confident, right guys?

I’ve been a fan of the Bucs since I moved to the area 17+ years ago. Apart from the Super Bowl year it’s the same old song and dance….the only thing that’s different is the dancing partner.

The team has no identity. Hoping for the sake of hope is foolish.

  73. Capt.Tim Says:

    Bonzi
For the past 3 preseasons, Ive posted right here on Joe buc
“In todays NFL, You cant win, if you cant rush the passer. We have no DEs.”

    Also

“Doug Martin only plays hard, when he has money on the line. He played hard his rookie season, layed down 2 years in a row. Then played hard his contract year, then back to laying down. We cant count on him”

These problems arent a “this year” issue. They have been problems for years.
We havent had a drcent DE, since we drafted McCoy- which is pure insanity
We havent had a running game, except when it was Martins contract year.

If Im seeing it, and complaining about it- im sure our “experts” can see. But they do nothing.
    Change in culture?
    Nope.
    Different liars, same lie

  74. lambchop Says:

Rid the stench of losing? So, I guess drafting a kicker in the 2nd Rd was a genius way of ridding the stench?

    Great start.

  75. Walter Says:

  77. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Jason Licht is a meat head who does not know how to construct a winning roster. I keep hearing about how many good draft picks he has made… yet he has NOT drafted the positions that are most important (and hardest to acquire in FA) that win football games, D-LINE. Yay, he drafted good linebackers. Not helpful when we HAVE NO D LINE. Jason Licht has made more boneheaded moves than good ones (his entire free agency record, drafting a kicker, Vernon Hargreaves, Jeremy McNichols, the 2014 draft besides Mike Evans, ONE D-LINEMAN in 4 DRAFTS not counting a 7th rounder who has not played a snap???)

    He’s a loser!
