More GMC Love

February 4th, 2018

Who said GMC is a bad player?

So many Bucs fans can’t wait for the day that stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is gone from the team.

Yet folks who work in the NFL for a living wonder what these same fans are drinking?

Since Bucs fans howl about GMC so much, Joe has almost made it a personal crusade to find anyone credible in the NFL to tell him that GMC is a rotten player the way Bucs fans believe.

Joe has spoken with many offensive coordinators in the NFL, some of whom have become successful head coaches, as well as established head coaches, and players. No one even remotely believes that GMC is what Bucs fans are convinced he is.

Take Shaq Mason, Patriots offensive lineman who will be lining up for the Belicheats today to potentially win his third Super Bowl ring.

Of course, Mason started this past season on Thursday Night Football when the Bucs hosted the Belicheats. Joe caught up with Mason last week at Super Bowl Opening Night and specifically asked Mason about GMC.

“Gerald McCoy is a very good player,” Mason told Joe. “He creates lots of problems for offenses.”

Joe mentioned to Mason that offensive coordinators he has spoken with have told Joe that if they specifically gameplan for GMC, then they know they have a shot against the Bucs. If they don’t, GMC will make for a long afternoon.

Mason totally agreed when Joe relayed this information to him.

“[GMC] is always a focal point across the d-line,” Mason said. “He definitely will make plays. You have to prepare for him.”

Joe would think reasonable Bucs fans would sooner or later heed the words of folks who work in the NFL for a living. As awful as this defense was in 2017, the last thing the Bucs need to do is unload a Pro Bowl player.

  1. Seminole Bill Says:

Hopefully, the Bucs will wake up and begin to build a D-line around their best player, McCoy. We cannot expect him to perform up to his abilities when the other team knows they can double and triple team him, while ignoring the other 3 linemen.

  2. Ray Rice Says:

He’ll make plays? When? You can’t trust a Patriot. EVER! They all do the same $hit. They play the same tune. They “respect” everyone and like their coach always say….. ” Oh. We have the Browns next week. They are a tough formidable opponent with a good QB and coach.” Etc…. Get me? They always make it sound like they are playing against a SB contender. When deep down inside they really feel and think the opposite. Aunt Geraldine gota take a pay cut.

  3. Guzzie Says:

It’s not GMCs fault we haven’t drafted a true defensive lineman inside the top 5 rounds in years, Spence isn’t a DE he’s a 3-4 rush linebacker

  4. Bucnjim Says:

Must be some confusion about the words good and great. Never really heard anyone say he sucks. Is he a 100 Million dollar face of the franchise dominant player? No he is not! Is he a good player absolutely. There is your difference.

  5. Lamarcus Says:

GMC sucks. GMC is not all that good. He rather enjoy the SB party than to play in one for sure.

Bucs, Glazers, Koetter, Licht any one with some authority cut this GMC clown

If GMC heart was the size of his gums maybe he can close out a game or there for us

Someone posted that GMC = Dwight Howard. Whoever posted this was bulls eye. On the money

  6. StPeteBucsFan Says:

But…but..he likes ice cream and is a decent human being..doesn’t kick other players when they’re laying on the ground…that means he can’t be good.

And of course the real elephant in the room..he’s NOT Warren Sapp. There is only ONE player in the league currently who MIGHT achieve Sapp like status…the Defensive MVP Aaron Donald. The fact that Donald is clearly better than GMC doesn’t mean GMC is not still a very good player…just not as good as Donald….who is?

Somebody yesterday got so wound up on their hate they claimed we’re wasting 7 million more annually than we are actually paying him!!! Why?

So Jameis and MM will forever be linked because of their draft positions.
GMC and N Suh are similarly linked.

So let’s take a look at reality here.

Money….GMC is scheduled to earn 12,250,000 for 2018. We need to add the 500,000 signing bonus for a total cap hit of 12,750,000. Not the 17 million a poster claimed yesterday.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/gerald-mccoy-6512/

Meanwhile his counterpart Suh is scheduled to earn 16,985,000 plus the 5,100,000 prorated from is signing bonus and 4,000,000 in restructered money for a total of 26,100,000. More than DOUBLE what GMC will represent as a cap hit.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/ndamukong-suh-6511/

And for this extra 14 million Suh has 15.5 sacks the past three years for the Dolphins while ice cream eating GMC has 21.5 sacks.

The only cancer represented by GMC is the infection in TMAX’s brain.

Six more sacks an average of two more per year over the past three for half the cost over the past three years!

Oh but Suh is a tackling machine…107 for the Dolphins over the past three years while GMC only had 85. Divide those by the three years in question…
    Suh averages 35.6 to GMC’s 28.3.

Yeah that’s the ticket…12 million a year extra for 2 less sacks and 7 more tackles.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

When you are LOSERS..Somebody becomes the scapegoat (s). Instead of placing the entire inept Buc organization under the microscope, Select Buc fans lash out at McCoy who is vocal. MC is a very good player. He was voted to the Pro Bowl by Players he plays against. And that actually says more than what fans say or know.
Until this..excuse for a football team actually gives somebody the reigns..at the highest levels to come in here and produce a winner? We never will be one.

  8. Lamarcus Says:

All I ever here is he got a quick get off.

I swear GMc misses more gap assignments than SpongeBobs dentist and then to think he has to be game plan for. Yes to run right at this guy. Over and over and over again. Over and over again.

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Man now we’re down to the ad hominem of griping about GMC’s gums?

Is this a freaking dental blog or a football blog? The hate runs deep here!

  10. Bucnjim Says:

We once had a dominate player on every phase of the D! D line, LB, S, and CB. Is McCoy better than any one of these players? NO WAY in HELL! We have been spoon fed average for so long we can no longer tell the difference.

  11. Mr. Ed Says:

Not all Bucs fans think he sucks, Joes. You have the same loud and obnoxious minority that moronically wanted the firing of Gruden — the same group who inspired Warren Sapp to call Tampa Bay fans the dumbest in the NFL.

  12. Doug p Says:

Total waste of talent!! Trade 93!!

  13. Arealbucsfan Says:

He is a good player. But his time is dwindling. Time to build around him while finding his replacement

  14. tmaxcon Says:

All this camera time and still not a single meaningful win in his ENTIRE CAREER

  15. Lamarcus Says:

    Speaking of Patroits

GMC is the God of Deflation. Brady equipment managers and football handlers combine can’t deflate as well as GMC

  16. ATrain Says:

    Bucnjim

    Stated it perfectly

But this issue will continue back n forth

I say put him up for trade I bet no one will touch him

Atleast we would know what the league really thinks

  17. Lamarcus Says:

Ok I apologized. I went to far with the gums thing.

I’ll stick to things that GMC has control of. Thinks like his piss poor attitude towards winning and his game on the field or lack there of.

  18. ATrain Says:

Joe you had Three Players Tell You GMC was no playing to a high level
You did an article on it. With A lot of sugar coating

You can sprinkle colored sugar on dog Crap and call it a doughnut
Everyone around can say who that looks great but you wouldn’t want to eat it

No one is going to bash GMC he is likable but no of them are paying him13 million a year either

    GMC is Good DT
    Not Great Not 100 million
    Not a Locker Room leader

But keep selling the sugared dog poop
Hell I will say looks great cause I’m not eating it

  19. Bird Says:

    St Pete

    Touché.

  20. Lamarcus Says:

Blame Lovie Smith all y’all want for his short comings when we damn well know we should have Aaron Donald on this team. But no. GMC cries about it and we draft Me13. Donald is a MVP. We are looking for dline help 4 years later? What’s wrong with this picture?

  21. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

    Thou doth protest too much.

  22. Buc believer Says:

GMC is like Johnie Fontaine…. he is good and has talent but he can’t make it on his own. Not without the help of Vito Corleone, AKA Steve, Lee, and the rest of the media.

  23. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

When exactly has GMC made it a long afternoon for anyone? Trade him while we can still get something decent for him.

  24. Buc believer Says:

Guess the filters didn’t like the truth I just posted about GMC. Sheesh Joe is so sensitive about his main squeeze.

  25. C eh N eh D eh Says:

    Soft ice cream….

  26. John meeks Says:

No one knows how good #93 Could be since this defensive line is horrible, but we all can agree he isn’t a leader and damn sure should not be a captain!

  27. Bradentonbuc Says:

Thank you Joe for using your connections to ascertain a truth. I only comment on here sporadically but man I sure feel like I am stepping into the vortex of the stupid when I read the hate about GMC. But of course these people know better that’s why they comment here and not to Owners of NFL teams…

  28. Couch Fan Says:

Yes, McCoy has a great get off. And that is about all he has. Most of the time he is so fast he runs himself or gets shoved right past the play. Though this is getting better as he gets older but he still does it. Lol

  29. JAB83 Says:

When girl get their feelings hurt they lash out like GMC HATERS…

Good bet these JBF posters have had their little girl feelings hurt because daddy got mad and threw his Mc Altra at the TV a few time the last few seasons…

Ladies, stop hating on McCoy. It was the Mic Altra that made your daddy mad…

Sad confused kids… We forgive you… Now go play with you barbi and ken dolls and get off the internet.

  31. BigAlbinoDonky Says:

Joe is searching far and wide for players and coaches that are gonna kiss GMac’s ass…it’s pathetic. I wonder how many won’t respond on the record because they know that McCoy SUCKS and are too diplomatic to say so. We’ve got idiots like Brian Billick saying that Mike Smith is doing a great job with the defense, and all these clowns hyping up the LOSER McCoy. Find somebody to talk to that isn’t full of crap, Joe!

  32. Mike Johnson Says:

Poor Buc fans. So many frustrations..No wins..A losing season..So much to hate. Screw all of yas..I’m goin to the seashore to buy..CRAB LEGS and watch women.
    jameis..Are you In?

  33. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Lamarcus

Well played sir! We all get overexcited at times and so it’s understandable. Glad you were able to correct.

The other day I went crazy on Richard Sherman’s salary versus Brent Grimes.

Thankfully Pickgrin corrected me and so I apologized for my hyperbole.

  34. Season Is Over Says:

McCoy has a 16 million dollar annual salary and was the 3rd overall pick. The 16 million is right in the link that was posted. 12.5 million is twisting facts. Cap hits in the NFL are over the course of three seasons. 2018 will be the cheapest salary on the books so far but that is spread out as I said. Many teams don’t even pay their Qbs that much money. Are the Buccaneers reaping the benefits of paying him 16 million per year? McCoy has handcuffed the team with his salary along with his inability to be effective in a 3-4 defense.

  35. I Bleed Pewter and Red Says:

GMC isn’t an elite player. For him to succeed above average he needs the support of others around him. Unlike the elite ones who produce with a weak supporting cast. Elite tackles like Suh, and Aaron Donald can be doubled and still not be denied. They don’t need better players around them to make them better. They make others around them better. When they game plan Gerald and double block or give extra chip blocks he disappears and morally beaten.

  36. JimmyJack Says:

McCoy hate will never go away. Even if the Bucs were playing today the haters would say it was in spite of McCoy.

The fact is undenayable that McCoy is the centerpiece of our D. For the haters that’s means he must be great. If he ain’t great they want nothing to do with him. If McCoy did not get any spotlight or any ProBowl voters the haters would never talk about him.

The haters just think they are smarter then everybody. They must think since we don’t hate the guy that means we buy into all the spotlight and hype and we think GMC is a first ballot HOF. The funny thing is most of us knew McCoy wasn’t all that about 7 years ago or so.

Most fans that post hear are pretty reasonable and recognize Gerald is a good player and we have just been waiting year after year for this team to bring in a better face for the defense then what McCoy is, which unfortunately hasn’t happened yet.

Just stay reasonable fans. We know somebody getting a spotlight is an improper reason to hate somebody. Plenty of things to hate about this team as is. Let the haters just keep on hating. They will never go away. And you can’t argue or learn anything from the unreasonable.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Come on Joe, there isn’t a lot of McCoy haters, it’s like 2 guys with 10 troll accounts.

  38. Wiscobucsfan Says:

How would be getting rid of GMC help this line? We are not hurting in the salary cap department. There isnt anyone on his level at DT in free agency to replace him. And who are we gonna get in the draft to replace him? Maybe one can argue that we could at pick 7 but then that means not getting bradley chubb. Getting rid of the best player on our line who is not hurting the salary cap just doesnt make any semse at all.

  39. JimmyJack Says:

Another point about the McCoy haters is that they are so shallow minded about anything we say in rebuttal to them they think we will defend GMC at any cost. That’s why they lash out with their nuthugger remarks and such.

What they fail to recognize is we are just pointing out how far off base they are when they flat out say that “he suck”………Haters, we are fans of the team we’d like to have conversation that is in truth. There’s a bonehead up above in the comments blaming McCoy for us not drafting Donald………Os this kind of nonsense nessarrary.

We are not arguing you haters merely for your hate. We are arguing you because you just don’t know what you’re talking about. I could scour GMC articles all day and see dozens of lies and false claims about McCoy. You guys are just completely unreasonable.

You haters wanna talk How McCoy was a no show for basically the first half of the season and didn’t earn a pro bowl or how he folds in clutch moments you would actually get favorable responses………But when you base your argument on pure and absolute nonsense you going to get called out because there are a lot of knowledgeable fans here that know our team and know your full of crap

  41. loggedontosay Says:

I get your point Joe, but you must admit that you are failing bad at reaching your goal. Better material might help.

  42. Defense Rules Says:

Rod, I agree with you that Joes are blowing this all out of proportion. Well, except for 1 of the 2 trolls:

@tmaxcon … “All this camera time and still not a single meaningful win in his ENTIRE CAREER.” TMAX, any player is only as good as the T-E-A-M around them. Warren Sapp also loved his camera time (understatement?). He was a great DT but he also had a great T-E-A-M around him.

In his 9 yrs as a Buc, he played in 140 games (averaging 15.6 games/season), had 77 sacks (8.5 sacks/season), and 400 combined tackles (44 tackles/season). Bucs had a 80-64 record, won 1 SB plus played in 8 other playoff games.

In his 4 yrs as a Raider, he played in 58 games (averaging 14.5 games/season), had 19.5 sacks (5 sacks/season), and 171 combined tackles (43 tackles/season). Raiders had a 15-49 record, won 0 SBs and made 0 playoff appearances.

Sapp’s on-field performance was actually quite consistent through all those years (thus him making the Hall of Fame?). But when he was with the Bucs, the T-E-A-M around him was considerably better than what he had surrounding him when he was a Raider.

GMC’s numbers in his 8 yrs as a Buc are reasonably similar to what Sapp posted as a Raider (13.5 games/season average, 6 sacks/season average and 34 combined tackles/season average). The real difference is the T-E-A-M around him … in GMC’s case, we’re the 2004-2007 Raiders.

  43. BigMacAttack Says:

I’d say the Bucs record and his personal stats say he’s anything but great. The potential has always been there, but he’s fat, slow after 5 steps and the biggest clown around. I see a guy that cares more about his paycheck and supported him for a long time. GMC has been a bust.

  44. Lamarcus Says:

    Jimmyjack

Just Google Gerald McCoy and Aaron Donald name together and there is a article about Gmc not wanting to change positions for a rookie.

The bone head here is any gmc fan who thinks he has somewhat baseline value. GMC has no value it proves it when he is hurt the defense plays slightly better than when he is in. Blowouts will never go away until GMC and his foot soldier minions are gone. I’ll take Michael Bennett

Even are guard play should be elite going against a guy like him in practice. Get this dancing clown off this team. This team needs some toughness. Some finger pointing in the back of your head if u don’t go to your sideline when I ask type attitudes.( Ty jw and me)

  45. Alanbucsfan Says:

In the age of instant gratification, fans and Bucs management have been impatient with building the team the right way – not being patient or willing to develop previous no 1 picks (Talib, Claiborne, Barron). Instead of wasting money on average free agents- invest in the draft picks, be patient, and in 3 years if scouts and GM do their job – Bucs could be awesome- they have the qb- invest in DLine and OLine, cornerback and running back – imagine a great group of picks and a 26 year old Jameis.
For some perspective- I know it was a different era- Bob Lilly was 1 of the top 5 DT’s of all time- He was on losing teams his first 6 years- Cancer? I don’t think so-he made playoffs his 7th year and every year after that-
Build the team through the draft!

  46. BigAlbinoDonky Says:

Lamarcus is right. Lovie 100% wanted Aaron Donald until McCoy went running his mouth saying that he wouldn’t be willing to change positions to help the team. Meanwhile Donald is the DPOY and most dominant player in football, while McCoy is yucking it up on his huge contract on the worst defense in the league.

  47. BringBucsBack Says:

Ian Beckles has called McCoy underwhelming many times. Don’t you respect his opinion?

  48. DB55 Says:

Looked to me like the 3techs won the SB for the Eagles bwtfdik THEY say dt’s don’t win football games. Can you imagine McIceCream creating a strip sack with 2 mins left in the game? Instead he gladly moves out the way to allow the offense to score.

Sources please? Who, when and where have “most of us” ever said or written that McCoy is not that good? Please share, if not then look in the mirror or just stfu bc I can source McCoy saying “I GUARANTEE this….. I WILL NOT. I repeat WILL NOT move to nose, regardless of who we draft!!”

  51. Mr. Ed Says:

It’s true. Buccaneers fans are the dumbest cork soaking bastages in the NFL. The scrod I read in these replies. Unbelievable. Good thing these trailer park living morons can’t get a job let alone run a football team.

  52. Mr. Ed Says:

PS — Ian Beckles is about 10 IQ points lower than the average poster on this website.

  53. Bradentonbuc Says:

@DB55 Brandon Graham is an edge rusher and they placed him inside all game long to create mismatches. Thats not the same thing… he is the one that got the strip sack. But wtf do you know right

  54. DB55 Says:

Fletcher cox was in there too on another play. Forever an excuse for mr gelatin

  55. Bucsfanman Says:

Apparently GMC is now a general manager too! That we didn’t draft Donald says more about the front office than GMC. Then again wtfdik!

  56. Kansas95Buc Says:

The problem most people have with GMC is that while he himself is good, he doesn’t hold anybody else to a standard to make our defense great. Nobody is knocking his skill, what people have a problem with is that he is the supposed leader of our defense and our d doesn’t play to potential. Some of that blame belongs to the coordinators but as a captain, you’re suppose to lead which GMC doesn’t do at least not to the naked eye
