Predictable GMC Haters Unleashed

January 7th, 2018

Twitter GMs react.

It was so predictable, Joe was about to start a drinking game.

Last night the best defensive tackle in the game, Aaron Donald of the Rams, was having his way with the Dixie Chicks. This is what the best in the business do.

Joe knew it was coming and still Joe was shocked. The Gerald McCoy haters came out on Twitter like someone just kicked their hive. One guy, surely an unknown Bill Polian, claimed he watched Donald play against his beloved Noles and just knew the guy had “Canton” written all over him, and thus the Bucs screwed up not drafting him.

Joe responded that if he had this kind of foresight and such a secret crystal ball, he shouldn’t be wasting his time Twittering Joe, he should be compiling resumes for NFL teams as someone with his vision would make a killing in the league.

Joe saw Donald in college too, but there was nothing to suggest he would become better than GMC, who at the time Donald came out of Pitt was worst — at worst! — the fifth-best defensive tackle in the game.

This guy who went after Joe on Twitter was peeved Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht didn’t draft Donald.

Let’s be clear: There are not too many general managers of rotten teams who are looking to replace one of their best players, much less one of the best in the NFL. Rotten teams often have more than a couple of holes. Getting rid of good players is not often the goal of guys who are trying to turn around moribund franchises. The reason a team is rotten is because they don’t have enough good players.

But the GMC haters just cannot let it go. They cannot understand why GMC is so good. They refuse to listen to NFL offensive coordinators and head coaches speak in reverent tones about GMC. They are so filled with rage by GMC they continually flip their hands like someone afflicted with autism, and they chirp to themselves like someone cursed with Tourette’s when they watch any halfway decent defensive tackle.

Another guy Twittered Joe that GMC should be ashamed the way Donald plays. Joe’s reply was, yeah, and every other defensive tackle who ever played in the NFL since Warren Sapp retired should be equally embarrassed.

Exactly when did it become a mortal sin to be a damn good player at your position and not a Hall of Famer? If that is the standard GMC haters have, every single player on the Bucs roster should be cut before the clock strikes midnight tonight.

  1. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs drafted Mike Evans which was the correct pick for the team and even with as good as Donald is in terms of importance to the team having Evans is probably the right pick. With that said Aaron Donald is the best DT I’ve seen since Sapp and over the offseason when Donald was holding out I suggested they at least call the Rams about making a trade, maybe a couple of 1st rounders would get it done. If I was the Bucs I’d make that trade in a minute. I doubt the Rams would take that deal, but I would have offered it. McCoy AND Donald would be incredible and could probably even make Ayers seem decent.

    🙂

  3. TexasStickCarrier Says:

    Damn…Just looking for clicks…Thirsty much?

  4. Season Is Over Says:

The Rams won’t be stupid enough to pay Donald 16 million dollars a season or 3 million per sack. McCoy is severely overpaid. No amount of media leg humping will change that. McCoy/Winston/Koetter/Barber good, everyone else scapegoats. We get it. Speaking of running players out of town, that is exactly what this website tries to do to players they don’t like. I fail to see the difference.

  5. Spartin Says:

Season is Over, I think you’re picking and choosing which articles matter. Joe goes after everybody. He has good and bad things to say about all the players.

I’m not a McCoy hater but if he’s so good, I don’t understand why he’s not making the other DTs and DEs better. Sure the other Dlinemen have to do their jobs as well but are they really that inept? We have had a few DEs leave here and play a lot better in other places with DTs who don’t get the same credit McCoy gets. Maybe the other players are that bad, I don’t know.

  6. Greg Says:

You know, I can think of at least four posters, on top of both Joes, who call out this fan base on at least a weekly basis for how piss poor it is supporting this team. In some ways I get all the guys that hate on this team, no one wants to support a crappy team that lets you down every week (including the last week winning a useless game that really only the team cares about, while pretty much taking us out of contention getting a decent DE). I’ll say for me, my attitude from here on out on this team will be expect the worst, hope for the best. As long as the Glazer boys (sorry, you’re not a man if you have to use inheritance as your only means to make money) own this team, they will always be that guy in your fantasy league that makes you scratch your head and say “WTF are you thinking?”. I’ll still support this team, just glad I get paid to go the games instead of overpaying for a crappy product.

  7. Greg Says:

Oh, forgot to add, f#$k you Glazers!

  8. Lamarcus Says:

As the way things have turned out drafting Donald would of been the better move.

  9. Joe Says:

In some ways I get all the guys that hate on this team

Thanks. There are plenty of targets on a 5-11 team. GMC isn’t or at least should not be one of them.

  10. Blackmagic00 Says:

Nothing to say here except HATERS! Only way I’d be ok with GMC leaving is to trade for a pic to draft another great young defensive tackle. GMC isn’t Sapp, who made Rice great. If we had an edge rusher who was atleast good, GMC would be great.

  11. loggedontosay Says:

The only way they will see it Joe is when it shows up on game day.

  12. Blackmagic00 Says:

Joe I miss 1987. Is he still banned?

  13. Buc believer Says:

GMC is not liked simply because he is a showboat look at how great I am media hog little wussie boy crybaby. SERIOUSLY Joe can you imagine Sapp crying on the bench??? Well can you?? Dude makes 100 million dollars!!! He should be unstoppable for that amount of lettuce. Instead we get a little bee atch!

  14. NFLNut Says:

GMC is a very good player … I just feel that trading him for picks AND being able to use his salary cap space to sign MORE THAN ONE player would be a wise move.

If we could trade GMC and get back a 1st and 4th to draft two starting quality players AND have the money to spend on a new DE or a CB, wouldn’t that make more sense than ONLY having GMC and all those holes on the roster?

  15. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Agree NFL Nut. If you could get a first for him why not take it. Could we lose more? We clear cap space and add draft ammunition

  16. Dan Says:

GMC has great get off. He also allows runners to blow by him in goal line situations. As a fan I’m more concerned that through all the loosing GMC has been there. That’s concerning.

  17. Ndog Says:

Correct Joe I choose not to listen to same types that say LVD54 is not a pro bowler or than Tony Dungy is a HOF coach or that Jameis is the problem here. Everyone has an agenda and long ago I quit listening to others and used my eyes. Heck the majority of people that think McCoy is all of that haven’t seen a quarter of the plays from him that I have. On top of that I have been lucky enough in my life that I have watched him live and that gives you a better evaluation and no he is not trash and does have so special skills BUT has never or sadly never will be great cause he does not love it enought. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t care he just doesn’t love it enough to be as good as he can which is really sad. I have seen way to many plays he just mails it in accepting the double team or just jump threw a gap leaving a huge hole. That doesn’t happen time and again to someone who truly loves winning.

  18. Erc2706 Says:

I’ll say this. I used to be a McCoy hater. Not so much anymore. But it’s hard not to want to tell McCoy to shut the F up and play ball. I’m sick of hearing how he’s the leader of our team. How he needs to do this and that. Or when the game starts having to listen to announcers talk about how he’s a game wrecker and he will make plays. Then to have the game play out and you literally call his name twice in the entire game. Donald had 10 qb pressures in the first half alone Joes. Against a team we see twice a year. And have not seem one of our guys do that in 2 games against the falcons

  19. Erc2706 Says:

I’m just sick of hearing about how great he is from him and every other announcer in the league just to watch him make 2 plays a game. McDonald can do the same thing. No he’s not as good as McCoy. But for the money he’s paid. He should be wrecking havoc on teams just like Donald was last night.

Answer me this joe. Honestly. When is the last time you saw McCoy dominant like Donald was for the rams last night? You didn’t just hear his name. You saw the impact the guy made. It was telling for me watching that game. We know the falcons line. We’ve seen them enough. And to watch Donald destroy them like that made me a little jealous and should have made it a very rough night in the McCoy household.

  20. 2Anglican1609 Says:

I believe the apposing coaches talk up GMC because they know in fact that he is a wash, using reverse psychology. They can render him useless as usual.

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

GMC has good value. Trade him as soon as you can to Cleveland or some other losing team. Let him go somewhere else, so we can start over. This is a time to rebuild and you need to sacrifice a sacred cow or two. No matter how good Gerald plays, he lacks passion and intensity. He’s a clown that is often seen joking around on the sidelines while his team is losing. End this plague on this D line.

  22. BringBucsBack Says:

    NDog, Eric

  23. Ndog Says:

The problem is no one would actually trade for McCoy. Sure you could get something like a 4th round pick that is the truth, they talk him up all day but when push comes to shove they would not give anything up for him as they see him rushing upfield leaving huge gaps in his wake. He does not look to break through double teams he just accepts them and hopes others will get the pressure/sacks. Again he has a ton of talent but that is the problem everyone is blinded by his talent and the 4-5 sacks he gets a year due to coverage or just plain luck. If they actually watched every snap then they would see what we see, little production and a lot of “game wrecking” while not actually touching anyone in the backfield. You here his name all game but are they after great plays or when he is coming off the field hurt? Keep in mind these are the same people that think Doug Martin is the best RB on our team. When are you people going to learn no one actually watches this team so they just assume McCoy is playing well due to his name! That is the same reason they think Jameis is out of control. All they see is him poking Lattimore or getting pissed on the sideline after a BS call by the ref. Do you think they see anything else he does, of course not cause they are not watching the games they are are sportcenter highlight honks who have no idea what they are talking about. They are all to busy watching the Cowboys, Patriots, Steelers, or Eagles to know what is going on down here.

  24. darin Says:

Donald is great. Once in a decade or less player. He does remind me of sapp. He gets double and triple teamed more than sapp so his sack numbers arent as high, or as high as they should be. Theres 32 teams, if we got all the great ones that wouldnt be any fun. Plus mike smith would have donald and mccoy running stunts and taking them out of the play. If we had a wade phillips or a dick labeau maybe i would dream of having donald. Its worthless with a defensive coordinator who makes 1st round picks look like the 76 bucs. Watching the titans last night i sure was thinking what if. What if we had a defensive coordinator who blitzed his linebackers like labeau. Just their lbs have 29 or 30 sacks, just the LBs! Their lbs dont have the talent of ours either. Ugh i wish i didnt have these what if thoughts, depressing

  25. Architek Says:

Why are we talking about this sorry team during the playoffs???

  26. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

GMC isn’t winning us playoff games, but he is costing us a ton of cash. In other words, having one good D-lineman and paying him a bunch of money is not the solution. Either trade McCoy or get him some help. We need sacks, not disruption!

  27. Nate Says:

NOW THIS IS A FORMER PLAYER TALKING …..

I am not a GMC hater but joe , I can swear to it….

I was calling for us to double up in the middle and get Donald or Carr, and yes I know I LOVED MIKE TOO…

cant have multiple picks in the top 5 like the browns or rams or eagles ……especially

when your Jason licht trading up for a FSU fan base / promos to get kickers

  28. Nate Says:

I envisioned him at nose with GMC until he retires …ALL who is anybody said that he was good just didn’t play much on tv

better than suh that’s for sure

  29. Bucnjim Says:

The simple truth is that it is not a fine line between good and great it is a country mile. The Bucs have some good players including McCoy! Key word here is good. The Bucs have lacked greatness since Rhonde Barbers last game. Not totally McCoy’s fault that the organization is pinning the face of the franchise on him. I am sure he wanted the money but wants nothing to do with the responsibility the comes with the title. Greatness has been absent from this team for a long time!

  30. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

So the guy wreaked havoc in a game they lost by 2 tds. That’s viewed as a blow out. Who cares about his meaningless stats the team lost.

  31. not there yet Says:

I too wanted us to draft Aaron Donald but knew it wouldn’t happen because of McCoy. Good players do get replaced all the time they thought booger would have the same impact as Warren Sapp but more than a few people thought Donald was better. McCoy is a good player stop trying to make him some kind of dominant force, he has no pass rush moves he had a first step which renders him useless if he can’t use it. You guys are stat geek lovers who refuse to use your eyes.

You have access to the locker room and players so you have inside knowledge but that doesn’t make your opinions better than the fans. Because we are game doesn’t mean you know more simply because you have a platform we don’t have. We don’t have his replacement so he can’t be traded but stop acting like there’s no way that paying can be upgraded. He can be replaced. He’s older and soon they’ll have no choice anyway. It’s why we suck because we hang on to guys too long if he made us a playoff team yes ok but we’ve been a loser since he got here which means he doesn’t make a difference. Makes to much money to make 3-5 plays a game

  32. StPeteBucsFan Says:

For the guys bashing GMC based on his salary and production…please google the salary and production for Suh!!! I’m tired of doing your work. If GMC is ripping off the Bucs then Suh is stealing the Dolphins blind.

They both basically signed six year deals with McCoy getting 98 million 51.5 guaranteed. Suh signed for 114 with 60 guaranteed.

    Past five years production

McCoy has 39.5 sacks while Suh has 29.5 sacks. Suh is the highest paid defensive player in the league. Wonder if Dolphin fans spend their days on their websites bashing Suh like our fans do GMC. Oh but Suh steps on guys and kicks them when their down is an obnoxious jerk…so he does have that advantage over GMC.

  33. briandorry55 Says:

Donald is as good or better than Sapp was in his prime…again, folks have unfair expectations. Let’s get rid of Mike Evans because he’s not Julio Jones! Let’s get rid of Lavonte David because he’s not Luke Kuechly. Doesn’t work like that.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

Contract and reputation doesn’t even come close to reflecting the contract. That’s why many of us don’t care for him.

I personally don’t think he’s a 3-tech, I think he should be playing left end.

  35. DB55 Says:

    Spbf

You need to look at tackles as well. Suh blows gmc out the water when you include sacks AND tackles.

  36. DB55 Says:

    Joe

Well you had quite a few posters calling for Aaron Donald at #7 including LUV, Dallas and myself. So my question to you is where do we send our resumes?

  37. DB55 Says:

    Joe,

Lol, still curious how much gmc pays for such positive coverage? Does he let you touch his bat mobile? Do you get to see dragons in the theatre? No, I know unlimited ice cream for you and Lee, amirite?

  38. gotbbucs Says:

Can we all agree that a high dollar 3-tech isn’t required to win in today’s NFL? Their relevance disappeared as soon as the Tampa 2 did.

  39. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    DB55

But the entire thrust of our discussion has been pass rush. While our run defense sometimes had it’s own issues I don’t think it was nearly as critical as putting no pressure on the passer.

Lots of bad things happen when you can’t pressure the passer…and when it becomes such a tradition opponents are able to game plan for it…secure in the knowledge that their QB will have plenty of time to select receivers and throw the ball.

For that significance difference in $$$ I would not expect that large a difference in sack totals.

BTW It’s not my intention to trash Suh just to bring some conversation to this production discussion and the money paid for it. Suh like GMC is an excellent player and I’m happy with either on our team. Although I will confess if the Bucs received a trade offer with multiple high picks then we might need to move him.

  40. mike10 Says:

If GMC is so good, then how can our Dline be the weakest link on the team? Name someone around him that has ever been made better.

How about the Eagles trading their best player (McCoy) a couple years ago and getting resources that have made them better and put them in the playoffs?

We were 32nd in sacks joe! That means it can’t get worse. I see the same production on the D line in the games McCoy is injured! If he’s so valued elsewhere, and we have numerous holes.. TRADE HIM!

  41. Ray Rice Says:

And that my friends is what a real NFL DT looks like. That’s how he performs. Meanwhile in the bat cave Aunt Geraldine is rubbing his hands together like Baby from Cash Money.

  42. DB55 Says:

and when it becomes such a tradition opponents are able to game plan for it…
    ————–
Same can be said about short yardage and goal line. If you able to review any games from 2017 see how often team are running at gmc.

  43. DB55 Says:

    Ray Rice

    Where you been baby? ✊🏾

  44. ATrain Says:

But Joe do you remember the NFL stars calling GMC out at the beginning of the season??

I Don’t Get why JOE won’t write anything negative about GMC

No Way he ha splayed prefect all season

I’m not a trade GMC guy because he is good but HE needs to have more Leadership and demand WINNING

  45. Jarod Lauderdale Says:

You Joe’s crack me up ! I don’t know what GMC has on you but if you’d wake up and watch the games closely , you will see a DT that is maybe the 25th best in the leauge ! Is he an OK player ? Sure , is he anything to even write about ? Hell no ! Watched that Jacksonville game today ? Malik Jackson took on double teams and still wreaked havoc…so did Donald for the rams !

  46. BigHogHaynes Says:

What is up with all the HATE….O’yea TRUMP GOT ELECTED!!

  47. Eric Says:

We are in Browns land. They had Joe Thomas for years, good player, team never did squat.

They have to bottom feed like us when a coaching vacancy comes up and get some nobody or a reject, like our current staff.

    Sad. Just plan sad.

  48. Pelbuc Says:

I would take anyone on the Jaguars Dline over GMC. McCoy is way overrated and signifies and personifies the lost decade of the Bucs. He certainly doesn’t improve the players around him. Trade him, Baker and Gholston for whatever they can get.
