Luke Stocker Finds A New Team

Just a few days before Luke Stocker was cut by the Bucs last week, formerly winning head coach Dirk Koetter ironically called him an important “glue guy.”

Well, the now the glue is on a likely playoff team.

Stocker inked a multiyear deal with the Tennessee Titans today, per BSPN.

This does not surprise Joe at all. Stocker wasn’t injured, and he’s the kind of guy who is happy to do the dirty work in the trenches and play special teams, and be a team-first dude at the end of the bench.

Also, if you ask Koetter what team’s offense most resembles Tampa Bay’s, he’ll tell you it’s the Titans’.

Remember, Koetter took over as offensive coordinator for Mike Mularkey in Atlanta and kept a lot of the offense in tact.

“The Titans are a team I watch a lot on offense. Coach Mularkey, Terry Robiskie are two guys I have a lot of respect for; we run similar systems,” Koetter said on WGFX-FM in Nashville earlier this year. “Even though it may not look that way, but we’re basically running the same offensive system. So I know that’s a team that I like to watch to get ideas from those guys on how they’re attacking teams that we both play.”

Joe wishes Stocker well.

    Yawn…..good for him, I guess

  2. Tbbucs3 Says:

I agree the titans offense does resemble the Bucs in the sense that the vanilla run heavy fear of turnovers scheme that both teams run are ruining the star potential of 2 stud quarterbacks.

    I was beating the Cheatriots.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Yeah good for him. He gets to back to Tennessee.

  5. WyldKat Says:

Be happy he won’t be someone who sucked here and did well elsewhere.

He did his job A-okay while he was here.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

At least he didn’t go to a division rival! So happy he’s gone. Good guy, but he has been little help for years.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai, Luke Stocker was a true professional all the years he was here. And he was a lot more help while he was here than you seem to give him credit for … How many TEs in the NFL can play several positions? He may not have caught all that many passes, but that’s not what the Bucs asked him to do. He was solid in the blocking game and there’s a lot to be said for that.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Glad he hooked up….and with a hometown team…..wonder if we tried to shop him before the trade deadline….it’s not like we were poor with TEs.

  9. JonBuc Says:

Any chance Tennessee would return Jon Robinson to Tampa for Licht’s Out and Smiley Smith’s defensive playbook?!

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Yea Luke, you are back home now, TY so much for all you did here in Tampa.

  11. BoJim Says:

    Go Luke!!

  12. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    R.I.P. “Fan Favorite” Luke Stocker

  13. Season Is Over Says:

Stocker was definitely not good enough for the next Peyton Manning.

  14. Bill Byrne Says:

There is more to this story that I think is important. Remember…Jon Robinson, the Titans General Manager worked for the Bucs General Manager Licht and was hired by the Titans to become their General Manager three years ago. Licht drafted Jamis Winston and Robinson drafted Marcus Mariota. Each built their team around their quarterback and the rest is history. The Bucs are still one of the worst teams in the NFL and the Titans lead the AFC South and headed to the playoffs. Licht and Koetter vs Robinson and Mularky…the results speak for themselves.

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

    @ BB…..that was a depressing read….

  16. Bob in Valrico Says:

Stocker was also a mentor and like a coach on the field for Brate.

  17. BucTrooper Says:

Leaving the Bucs is like getting paroled.

  18. JimmyJack Says:

Dang Joe, no story about the Giants canning their HC & GM? Was kinda looking forward to reading reactions from Tampa Bay about that.

  19. German Buc Says:

Tbbucs3: Thats the best post I read in a long time!!!

  20. Lunchbox Says:

Best of luck Luke. Your team-first attitude will be missed by some, at least.

  21. Capt.Tim Says:

    Bill Byrne-
Such an accurate, insightful, and depressing synopsis.
Im Really happy for Luke. They gave him all the dirty work- and he did it like a professional.

Hes gotta feel like he won the lottery. He’ll be in the playoffs for years.
We are rebuilding. Likely back in the Market for a QB.
Almost assuredly will have some new coaches, new offensive systems.
    Bet Stocker cant stop Smiling

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Now warch Stocker come alive..reinvented..awakened. How come so many players who leave the Bucs find new life elsewhere> ?
