Koetter Digs In On Jameis’ Health

December 3rd, 2017

Formerly winning head coach Dirk Koetter seemed to reach a minor frustration point late Friday after yet another question about the health of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Koetter got a little more specific about Jameis shoulder.

Simply stated, Koetter said the shoulder is healed and any commentary that says otherwise is BS, so he told on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“Those decisions are made by medical professionals, a team of doctors, a team of trainers,” Koetter said.

Jameis is “at no further risk, no more risk than [any player] normally would be in a regular game. … and that’s the situation here. Anyone who says there’s more risk, that’s speculation. There’s nothing to back that up.”

Powerful final two sentences right there from Koetter, which sums things up distinctly.

Joe has little doubt that everyone is on board with Jameis playing, including Jameis’ own doctor and handlers, as well as Team Glazer, which needs to learn more about its franchise quarterback on the field — as more is learned about him off the field.

    Move on from JW#3

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sign Jameis to a ten year extension while he’s cheap.

  3. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Bonzai

But he’s cheap right now for a couple of reasons…on and off the field.

I”d prefer to hold off until we are sure…we have time to find out. And with #3 the value won’t be the relative…either he IS the franchise QB we all hope who can lead us to the SB…in which case the money won’t be a big deal…or he turns out to be mediocre or worse still as bust in which case any money spent will be lost.

Too many questions still for me to commit a ton of money…yet.

  4. Pickgrin Says:

FU Max. Go be a “fan” of the Titans why don’t you.

SPBF – you’ve been a “worry wart” about Jameis’ character since before he was drafted. Why stop now?

2 1/2 years of impeccable and exemplary behavior off the field by Winston since he got to Tampa and record breaking passing yards on the field his 1st 2 years. Then a girl makes a sketchy “me too” claim about a minor “offense” that Jameis swears he didn’t do with at least 1 witness to back him up – and all of a sudden he’s not good enough or reliable enough to plan on committing to long term????

    SMFH

  5. MadMax Says:

FU too pick LOL! Love to hate me but this is my team….so you disagree with an FU HAHAHA! Dmn dude, lol

  6. MadMax Says:

and i was never a mariota fan you lil btch

  7. Mikadeemas Says:

    Pickgrin

    Totally agree.
And needing upgrades at DL, RB, OL and DB why in the world would we want to put QB at the top of that list(or anywhere on it)!? C’mon People!! That’s just dumb! GO BUCS!!!

  8. buddy Says:

Let it go Joe!!! quit putting labels of “America’s QB” and “Former or Winning” coach Dirk. Just call them their names. Cheapens your reporting.

  9. Hodad Says:

Same doctors that let Marpet back in the game last week, now he’s on I.R..

  10. James Walker Says:

Bucs fans would want to cut Tom Brady for running a stop sign if he played in Tampa.

  11. Tee in Dallas Says:

Thanks pickgrin! We have bigger issues than QB. Coaching, Pass rush, and a running game. JW without the ability to run playaction had been his downfall this year.

  12. Pickgrin Says:

btch on this – loser “fan” Max.

Winston is your QB. Far and away the best QB to ever wear a Buccaneer uniform.

Jameis is not going anywhere. So what are you gonna do? Complain about him every week for the next 15 years?

  13. AlteredEgo Says:

I think Aaron Rodgers will be starting next week and I doubt the Packer message boards are hand wringing over whether the franchise should start him….just saying

  14. MadMax Says:

Ahhhh…. the memories of me calling for moving on from freefree, was one of the firsts if not the first…..the Joes remember and so does a few others here…..

Im the odd man out right now, but you’ll see (unfortunately). But hopefully im wrong and he’ll magically turn into a tom brady today and the rest of the year (HAH!)

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think the only OL spot we need an upgrade at is Right Tackle, which was the same spot we needed it last year.

Move Sweezy to the left side, which is QB blind side and it will help Smith pass block.

Move Marpet back to right guard.

    Keep Hawley at center.

Since most runs are up the middle or to the right, instant improvement to the run game and pass blocking. OL fixed…assuming the RT is addressed properly. Maybe Kevin will prove himself.

  16. MadMax Says:

Pick, if he improves, I’ll get behind him…but its doubtful.

Thanks for showering me with your disapproval of my opinion though lil btch

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    AlteredEgo Says
“I think Aaron Rodgers will be starting next week”

By league rules he cannot start for 15 more days. That’s more than 2 weeks away.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jameis should stay. Even if he is proven guilty of the Groping thing.

Why anyone would want to get rid of the best QB in Buccaneer history is beyond me, unless they are secretly fans of division rivals.

  19. MadMax Says:

Na, im not even thinking about the groping thing Bonzai….its the on the field of play thing.

  20. Capt. Blighe Says:

People don’t want Winston to play because they don’t to have to face the truth.
    Baker/Rosen 2018

  21. AlteredEgo Says:

    Bingo Capt’n

  22. Pickgrin Says:

Well at least you say “hopefully I’m wrong” Max – so maybe there’s hope for you.

JW is nowhere close to a finished product. He is 23 years old and would be 2/3 of the way through his rookie NFL season had he not come out early. Jameis was undefeated save for 1 game in College. He broke an NFL record for passing yards in his 1st 2 NFL seasons and has made more “wow” plays in 2 1/2 years as Bucs QB than the last 10 years of Buccaneer QBs combined.

Winston was born a natural and charismatic leader – and we are lucky as fck to have him here in Tampa Bay.

Yet you feel we need to move on… SMH

You are in TMax territory with that take my man

  23. MadMax Says:

Man, its funny how your “fan” status is the first thing attacked when you criticize a star player….and im no “secret” gdmn fan of a rival team jitheads….pull your head out of your @ss!!

  24. MadMax Says:

@Pick, its what i see….others see it too. He has the rest of this year and next season, so lets see. Again, I hope Im wrong, I REALLY DO.

  25. Joseph Mamma Says:

    James Walker Says:

“Bucs fans would want to cut Tom Brady for running a stop sign if he played in Tampa.”

Only if he was playing like Jameis Winston, not like Tom Brady. Or maybe if he was caught groping himself while running the stop sign, while also playing like Jameis Winston.

  26. AlteredEgo Says:

My criticism of #3 is all about accuracy ….I believe everything else can be corrected and is a work in progress for a young QB…. it is all about accuracy the remainder of this season

  27. John Says:

MAd max is a fan of whoever beats the Bucs. One of those guys who wants the young QB out of town if we doesn’t win an MVP, super bowl, and break the single season touchdown record in his first season.

  28. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @ Bonzai
I am all in on the line changes mentioned,We tried licht way and its not working.
In fact ,I think the coaches should have all the decisions where to a certain player plays. Glazers may have licht a little too much power to tinker with the lineup. Marpet was never a problem at guard and lacked the reps to be a good center out of the box. You also have to wonder where Ryan Smith would be if he had to deal with Licht’s safety experiment.

  29. Pickgrin Says:

Bucs will exercise Winston’s 5th year option and likely use it before signing him to a huge, long term deal.

So he’s got 2 years and 5 games to prove he is worthy of the Glazers backing up the Brinks truck.

Hopefully the Oline and Dline can get fixed before then so Jameis can show what he is really capable of with a solid and reliable supporting cast.

  30. MadMax Says:

And @john is a fan of being a stupid derp who only knows how to respond with derp drivel because he’s triggered….. lol keep derping retardo

  31. America's Groper Says:

Jameis is no longer a rookie QB, 3 years in the league a no improvements, he has all the “weapons for Jameis” and apparently still cant process fast enough who is open so he locks on to 13

  32. Architek Says:

Why are y’all getting upset because Max doesn’t like Jameis game on the field and accuse him of being a Titan or any other fan. Let’s be real here, it’s not like you can blame him.

What has the Bucs and even Jameis done consistent to warrant our loyalty???

Jameis on the field has been just okay and he still makes bad decisions and still remains innacurate to consistently beat contending level defenses.

Stop knocking people for not being sheep and Jameis is not beyond reproach.

  33. Bobby M. Says:

I think there are some dynamics behind the scenes that are weighing on this team as a whole….When Jameis went for an additional opinion, it seems an independent third party was needed to maybe provide one side or the other with an additional basis to their position. Jameis and his team felt they were either being benched or rushed back to soon.

Either way, i think Koetter is done. My position is he had to make the playoffs to keep his job….we currently have a 2 in 1000 chance of that happening. If we win out, it shows this team was talented enough to compete and that the coaching staff simply isnt delivering on a consistent basis. If we go .500 or worse, why would they keep Koetter? The team is regressing similar to Lovie’s last year and has been doing so since the last quarter of the 2016 season. I dont see any way Koetter stays unless the coach the Bucs desire wants to wait to see how the NFL investigation unfolds. My guess is the owners would prefer one more change to see if Winston is worth $100 million and in fairness to the coach and the player, two years in the new system would allow for an accurate assessment.

  34. Architek Says:

    I agree Bobby!

  35. Architek Says:

Glazers are likely to use time to decide and I’m REALLY confident his off the field baggage will be leveraged into his contract IF Glazers decide to keep him.

I will say that he’s a tradable piece of he’s not the answer.

  36. AlteredEgo Says:

Booby M….it ain’t coaching….yet…if you have played or coached any sport at any level….it is all about the talent….the defense needs huge upgrade in talent…there have been many swings and misses in both draft and FA choices…gotta keep trying to get it right….FA is fools gold except for teams already solid and in need for a bit of bling….can’t build at team a team on bling…gotta stick with the draft…this team has at least 2 years of drafting before we are where we all hoped we’d be this year….don’t blame…break it down

  37. Conte Piscateli Says:

I think Dirk is feeling the hot seat. He needs Jameis to come back and play well down the stretch, win some games so he can say”if Jameis didn’t get hurt maybe we win more games” problem is we won two without him. So bringing back Jameis now feels like desperation. I also think Jameis needs to show the shoulder is good so the team doesn’t look too cover themselves with the high draft pick (see chargers with Drew Brees)

  38. AlteredEgo Says:

The only thing #3 needs to show is making and taking the easy throw….if he didn’t learn that watching….it is on his shoulders…. 😉

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    MadMax Says
“Man, its funny how your “fan” status is the first thing attacked when you criticize a star player…”

So you admit Jameis is a ‘star player’…

  40. Defense Rules Says:

Pickgrin, I was beginning to think you’re losing it with those first posts today, but your last post is dead on. And BTW, it parallels almost exactly what StPete wrote at the beginning of this thread (“Too many questions still for me to commit a ton of money…yet.”)

No need to make any long-term commitments to Jameis (or any player) before they’ve concretely proven themselves to be BOTH an exceptional player AND a team leader. My personal preference for a QB to rate huge $$$ from a long-term contract is simple: WIN. I don’t get impressed with a bunch of rah-rah, nor with a QB throwing for a bunch of yardage .. I want to see WINS. What makes QBs like Tom Brady & Aaron Rogers so valuable is that they know how to WIN … and do so consistently … even though the team around them may not be the best in the NFL. Agree wholeheartedly with StPete: Jameis isn’t there … yet. But hopefully once Licht & company improve the roster around him, he’ll prove to all of us that he too knows how to WIN.

  41. AlteredEgo Says:

    Bingo Defense R

  42. Defense Rules Says:

Oh and Pickgrin, I don’t care that Jameis is ‘only’ 23 years old, nor do I care that he (chose to) comes out of college 2 years early. Jameis throwing for 4,000 yds in each of his 1st 2 seasons doesn’t impress me any more than Drew Brees throwing for more than 5,000 yds last year … when his Saints went 7-9. Jameis’ record as a starter for the Bucs is presently 17-23. That’s with him operating under the same OC for all 3 years, with the same QB coach, and with ever-improving ‘weapons’ to throw to. Very few of his Bucs’ QB ‘predecessors’ had those same luxuries.

  43. I Bleed Red Says:

Ok ….we’ve been told over and over that good QB’s can overcome subpar offensive vulnerabilities.

remember, …Byron Leftwich sucked because he couldn’t dominate with a mediocre supporting cast.

same with Freeman? same with McCown?, Glennon?

Where is “America’s QB”? The savior who should single handedly overcome offensive weaknesses.

This offensive team has more talented weapons than this team has had in at least the last 10 years but yet we play no better. smh very disaapointing

  44. Swanee Says:

Will be a long afternoon for Buccaneers…. Draft pick will remain within the top 5 which is positive. Green Bay by 14 today. Play these games out and keep the high top 5 draft pick.

  45. AlteredEgo Says:

    Swanneee….losing mentality …I’d rather win

  46. MadMax Says:

^ What I want to see is PLAYERS KEEPING THEIR JOBS!

Screw if we win or not…..EFFORT FROM THOSE WHO KNOW….wins will occur that way

@Architek, Thanks, you get it….many dont. Im a lowly blue collar fan on a friggin blog who doesnt have much time for this, but Im here because Im a Buccaneer!

  47. Pickgrin Says:

DR – Regarding – “Winston isn’t winning enough” – you know as well as I do that football is perhaps the ultimate “team” game.

The one year out of his 4 1/2 years playing College and pro football that Winston had good protection up front and a legit running game to go along with it – he looked practically unstoppable, went 14-0, won a National Championship and won the Heisman – all in his redshirt Freshman year.

Dan Marino had big success early on too – but then QBed a lot of 8-8 or worse Dolphins teams in his career. Did Miami at any point think it was “time to move on” from Dan because he wasn’t winning enough?

Warren Moon had more losses than wins in his 213 career starts. Was he a QB that was not worth investing in because of that?

The Bucs will have a chance to play in the Super Bowl every single year that Jameis Winston is a Buccaneer IF the franchise can ever manage to provide him with a solid supporting cast.

  48. DalvinCookRules Says:

How about the rest of practice sanity by ignoring “Mad” Max. I will judge JW when the facts compel me to do so and not before.

  49. DalvinCookRules Says:

How about the rest of us practice sanity by ignoring “Mad” Max. I will judge JW when the facts compel me to do so and not before.

  50. BartButtplug Says:

    Simple as that.

  51. MadMax Says:

And after today @Dalvin, whats your thoughts buddy….or ignore me, im good with that too.

  52. Poor Glennon Says:

Oh enough already, with the “he’s still young garbage”. So is Carson Wentz or Goff. If you got 35+ games under your belt. Your a vet
