Defense Pukes Again

December 31st, 2017

Another signature tank job.

It took, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to bail out the defense.

It was about time, as the Bucs defense too often this season shat all over Jameis.

Entering today’s game, in Jameis’ last six starts, Jameis had either given the Bucs a lead or tied the game in the fourth quarter, only for Mike Smith’s defense to vomit all over the field and choke away a game.

That (finally) changed today .

Yes, Jameis tossed three picks — but no fumbles! And still the Bucs came back with an 11-play, 95-yard drive in the final two minutes to win the game 31-24.

Yes, Joe gets it, fans are fed up with Jameis. They are tired of his turnovers. They want John Elway, not Jeff George.

But even with the turnovers, the defense is letting Jameis, Dirk Koetter, and the whole freaking Bucs team down time and time again, week in and week out.

This is sorry AF!

Except today when Jameis rightly noted that winning hides all warts.

They finally made a play to close out a game!! Won5 be counted on McDonald to do that every time so they better get some playmakers added to the roster or the losing will continue next year.

Would be nice in McCoy was good for just one clutch play per season……Boy what a difference that would make….but I stopped hoping for that about six years ago. Let McCoy play his role and get some playmakers around him

  2. tmaxcon Says:

never thought I wold see such a soft heartless defense but Mike Smith entered bad character lovie smith territory with this pukefest of a season. crying clown is now at 8 years without a single meaningful win or dominant performance… but let’s give credit where credit is due, cancer93 has captained more flat performances and blowouts than any team captain in franchise history. congrats to the soft one… hopefully he has played his last game as a buc

  3. DB55 Says:

You really getting carried away tonight.

No article on captain ice cream being outplayed by his back up again?

Ice cream 6 sacks 16 mil a yr
McDonald daddy Mac – 5 sacks as a back up. 3 mil per year.

    HOFer my ass.

  4. MJB Says:

The defense allowed 17 pts to one of the best offensive teams in the NFL today…defense needs new players to improve but you can’t b!tch about the D today Joe.

  5. SB Says:

    “ARE You F’n Kidding me!!!!!!!!???????”
If Jameis didn’t throw THREE FRIGGIN Picks the Saints were Never even IN this game!!!!
What are you trying to peddle!?
Jameis lost us this game. The Defense got it back for us. Jeeeeesh. 6 turnovers in Two games by One flippin’ player……….SMDH

  6. SB Says:

Yeah go ahead and moderate a common sense comment out of existence because it doesn’t fit your script.
No, you are moderated because of posts like this. Calm down.–Joe

  7. DB55 Says:

Oh btw that 2 clutch 4th qrt sacks in consecutive weeks by McDonald. Last week he was triple teamed and still won his battle.

Idk what you guys are watching but baker and McDonald up front is the winning formula.

And I’d leave gholston in the middle to block kicks.

In other words cancer93 has become a huge anchor weighing this team down with his beach ass ness.

  8. Bob in Valrico Says:

Every three and out and and forced punt helped keep us in the game. And for the three blind Mice GMC also had an important sack that forced a and three and out.
If they were only important in the fourth quarter then why do they track all sacks.

  9. BrianBucs Says:

Jameis bailed out the defense? Joe, what game were you watching? Today, the defense bailed out Jameis and gave the offense a chance to win it. Three pics in a low scoring tight game. Geez

  10. Rod Munch Says:

Fans aren’t fed up with Jameis, that’s nonsense, the Winston haters are, but the Winston haters are d-bags so who cares?

  11. tmaxcon Says:

    Bob in Valric

funny the box score does not show cancer93 with a sack… the legend of mccoy is similar to that of the failed former one dimensional moronic coach dungy the legends far exceeds actual accomplishments for both of those fools.

the crying clown was pushed around like cheap crackwhore most of the game. total fragile soft bum is cancer93

  12. SB Says:

Hey Joe……..I like you guys. I really do. But to say that Jameis is the reason we won today is down right Irresponsible.
Happy New Year Joes!. 6 Years now of me posting here!.
    Go Bucs!
    Especially in finding a DE!

  13. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

    C’mon Joe

Jameis has to be held accountable for his play. Too many turnovers again. Defense played well against a great offense. Give credit were credit is due.

  14. SB Says:

Also I asked you a week ago if we beat the Saints could I have my username back. We won

  15. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Defense Pukes Again”. Classy Joe. Bucs defense allows just 17 points to an exceptional Saints offense (that put up 30 points on us earlier this season while our offense put up a whole 10 points). Oh and those 17 points allowed were after Jameis helped the Saints very nicely with his 3 INTs. Oooh, forgot to mention that the Bucs D also put up 7 points … the DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME. Hmmm, so the Defense Pukes Again. You need to take the blinders off.

  16. Bucnjim Says:

Happy New Years! Please give credit where credit is due even if you do not like it!

  17. Bucnjim Says:

Also Happy NewYears to all you crazy Bucs fans that are passionate just like me! CHEERS! Have a drink on me for this final win…..you too Joe!

  18. not there yet Says:

I don’t know what your talking about but they held this offense to 17 points and someone got the key sack to get the offense the ball back for Winston to work his magic. Sometimes I wonder if you even watch the games or just look at the final stats after it’s over

  19. SB Says:

I am two Hours behind you guys but HAPPY EARLY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!!!!

  20. CalBucsFan Says:

Joe, JW had 10 turnovers in 5 games, and the defense needed to be bailed out? Defense stopped a Hall of Fame QB and made him average today, congrats to all on that side of the ball, and DC Smith.

However, one game does not make a defense or save a DC. I know Koetter and Smith are buddies, but Smith has to go. How about Del Rio as DC?

  21. Lakeland Says:

    The defense saved the Bucs.

3 Turnovers and they only gave up 17 points

  22. Rod Munch Says:

LOL! The defense gave up the lead in the 4th quarter yet again and you still have dullards saying the defense played great. The anti-Winston crowd is hilarious in how disconnected they are from reality.

  23. Lakeland Says:

Mike Smith is not doing a bad job. How many decent defensive players has Jason Licht brought to the Bucs during his 4 seasons here? His first 2 seasons here they only drafted one defensive player. And the free agents he signed was mostly bums. Mike Smith walked into a pile of BS, and his hasn’t got any better.

  24. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @ tmax
both Ryan Russell and McCoy got up from sacking breeze.Does look like russell got credit in the box score.

  25. Lakeland Says:

People are going on like the Bucs has All-World defensive players. Most of these Bucs starters couldn’t be backups on most NFL rosters.

  26. Pickgrin Says:

Calm down exacerbaters – Joe was pointing out that in soooo many games this year – the defense has given up the losing score in crunch time – when the game was on the line.

It happened again today. But this time they left Jameis too much time and he made them pay with stellar clutch play as did the receivers and blockers on that beautiful, 95 yard, 1 minute winning drive.

Feels good right now but we’ll feel differently come late April – especially if Chubb drops to #5…

  27. Lakeland Says:

    Pickgrin

You know and I know that Jason Licht has failed to get decent defensive players for the Bucs. But all of the blame is directed towards Mike Smith. There’s only so much a coach can do.

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Like we’ve been sayin for the last 10 years..We’ll get’em next year right? And the year after that..and the next year followed by the next…and then the next..and….
You can say we don’t have the defensive players alls you like. What will be the excuse next year. What SPIN will DC Smitty give us from the pressbox? What will be next years hype? Stay tuned.

  29. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

SB has now surged into the lead of most ignorant, negative Bucs fan!!

    Congrats SB!!

Side note: 20 years from now, when we watch the “Jameis Winston: A Football Life”, I have a hunch the last drive today will make it in as a major turning point for Jameis’ stellar career.
The 23 year old clocked at the end of the game. 4th down inside his own 10 yard line and still engineers a win. Glorious.

  30. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

When we were healthy and the right people were on the field our defense wasn’t bad. Smith chose to play some people and sit others!!! That is why all you haters are slamming our defense. That’s on Smith and that’s why he should go. Draft a few key Defensive players to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks and play people you win games with and our defense can compete. When you got a nucleus like David, McCoy, Kwon, Tandy and Evans you can win games in the NFL!!

  31. Lakeland Says:

Only Cleveland (15 years) has a longer playoff drought than the Bucs (10 years). Jacksonville, Tennessee, Buffalo, Los Angeles Rams are in the playoffs. I don’t see a playoff team in the near future. They may make it, but I don’t see it.

  32. Joe Says:

Hey Joe……..I like you guys. I really do. But to say that Jameis is the reason we won today is down right Irresponsible.

Who threw the game-winning 39-yard pass, Doug Martin???

  33. SB Says:

    OK Joe…………
I supported the JW drafting and I still do. However look at the title of this article and give JW a pass for all three Picks. I like the kid but “Defense puking”?
Really. How many points did the Defense give up
And thank you Tony for actually paying attention to posts. I get it though. It is New Years Eve!

  34. SB Says:

The Saints just had their WORST Offensive output of the Year but the Defense sucked!
And I am the misguided poster. Whatevs!

  35. SB Says:

JW had 1 TD to 3 Ints but the Defense puked?
    “C’Mon Maaaan!”

  36. SB Says:

It is a good thing we have fans like Tony from Los Angeles to have perspective.

  37. Joe Says:

The Saints just had their WORST Offensive output of the Year but the Defense sucked!
And I am the misguided poster. Whatevs!

    Yes.

How many times did the Saints march down the field in the fourth quarter to take the lead?

Joe is starting to think you’d prefer a wishbone quarterback who never, every turns the ball over but good luck scoring more than 13 points a game.

  38. SB Says:

Joe…..my dad bought season tickets in 76 when I was 9. I have Never left this team. Sat through 14 losing seasons without missing a home game. I am not trying to pick a fight but we would not have been in this game without Defense. When ‘the face of a franchise’ throws three picks to one TD you can’t blame Anything on a Defense in a win.
    Just sayin

  39. SB Says:

And as a Ga tr and Buc fan who TOTALLY supported the JW draft and Still does, I feel I have the right to speak my mind.

  40. SB Says:

Also……Total Record breaker for JW for putting up his SIXTH 300+ yard game this yr which Shatters all previous Bucs Records! Congrats JW!!!!

  41. SB Says:

Anyway……….Just hit 12Am here. Happy New Year Joe! Here is to hoping we get a Stellar DE in the Draft!!!!!!!

  42. Joe Says:

Anyway……….Just hit 12Am here. Happy New Year Joe! Here is to hoping we get a Stellar DE in the Draft!!!!!!!

Thank you! Happy New Year as well!

  43. Bayers Says:

I’d like to see mike smith walk the sideline instead of the booth. Bucs fans what you think

  44. Bob in Valrico Says:

I think if M. Smith thinks it is an advantage to be in the booth. He has the HC on the field and spotters in the booth to help point out both defensive and
offensive trends. There also is communication from the booth to HC if need be.
Truth be told Koetter also thought it was an advantage as an OC, but Lovie made him come down on the field.

  45. denjoe Says:

They want to blame Smitty for crap sandwich licht gave him to work with this season. All 3 will probably be gone next year! Smitty’s probably the scape goat!

  46. NJBucsFan Says:

Yeah this is just not true. The defense has played ok…they are constantly playing from behind due to the turnovers. While I agree Smith should move on…the D held their own yesterday.

Vic Fangio or Jack Del Rio would make for nice DCs
